    This is sublime.
PS after hearing the whole concert : This is from another planet. For over ten years I heard Radu play whenever he played in London and when it was a concerto performance I went to the rehearsal as well. It was as if he were a medium for the composer, And this is not just how I experienced his playing. . When he played the Brahms Concerto 1, Maestro Istvan Fischer has said he didn't dare turn to the soloist because he was frightened that it was Brahms sitting there. Yes, and it is always as if the Schubert, Brahms, Schumann, Beethoven are sitting there when he plays. He even makes the piano sound different with each composer.I don't know how he does it. After his first Festival Hall recital, the great pianist Solomon (Solomon Cutner whose carreer was cut short by a stroke. He went in a wheel chair to the recital by Radu - such was the anticipation that the brief video of his performance at the Leeds final had provoked ), Anyway Solomon said that he had never heard someone of that age with such control of voicing. Always voicing with perfection.

I attended a Radu Lupu Schubert recital in Paris and he was playing that D Major sonata D850, followed by the last sonata D.960 in B-Flat major. The entire concert was magnificent but I vividly remember the 2nd movement of the D major sonata, especially the part that starts at 1"5"27 in this recording. It was so new, expressive and intense that I had tears in my eyes. I will remember it my entire life I think.

Thank you so much, Anson Yeung. It’s difficult to process that this fine man and great musician is no longer in our world. He was quite exceptional in the cruel profession of music, not ever harming anyone, always kind and humorous, and keeping his integrity intact. He will be missed for a very, very long time.

I was fortunate enough to know Radu quite well back in the 70s. When he came to London after winning the Leeds prize, the only people he had contact with were profesionals and agents. I and a lady friend were introduced to him by a pianist friend of ours, and we all had a meal together. I think he felt relaxed just having undemanding everyday talk. Thereafter, we would meet fairly regularly to go to the cinema or to a restaurant. And I went to all his concerts and usually to the rehearsals as well. Once when we went for a coffee at the home of Ilona Kabos, (a piano teacher friend of Radu), Radu picked up the Schubert F minor fantasy. He put it on the piano, sat down, beckoned me and, in that gruff voice, said, "We play!" Well, I got through one page beforel my nerve gave out! We continued meeting until I moved to Brazil. Twenty or more years ago, he came to play in Rio and we met up. I had known, his first wife, but that was the only time I met his second wife. He played a magical Beethoven 4. He has always been a presence for me and I know how much he was respected and venerated, by his colleagues. It's exciting that a lot of 'pirate' recordings are appearing on the Internet. With every performance I hear, I continue to marvel at the poetry that pours from his fingers. The poetry in this Schumann is so pure and so beautiful. Time stands still. Thank you for posting.

@@gilberthong9165 I was not talking of "official" recordings but about the fact that he hated studio recording. Sokolov is a different animal altogether! Of course some of Radu's performances were broadcast, and no doubt more of these will appear in unofficial/pirate recordings. He didn't like an interpretaion to be fixed. He loved spontaneity. And he disliked quite a few of his Decca recordings, For instance, he was not happy with the Beethoven 3 with Larry Foster, but he thought the 32 variations in C minor were good.
