In his last concert in Berlin's Kammermusiksaal, Radu played the last movement of Schubert's Fantasy-Sonata in G Major D894 with an haunting interpretation. Even Daniel Barenboim & Family attended. R.I.P. 🌹🌹🌹

Back in 1999, when I was 19, I transcribed by ear Radu Lupu’s Cadenza. Two weeks later I met Radu Lupu in person and gave him the score he never released it. He was very surprised to see it. I was so proud… He was my musical God. th-cam.com/video/YpMcys-Llwg/w-d-xo.html

I mean, it's not as if Beethoven had a written a wild, incandescent, raging ecstatic cadenza on the level of the "Hammerklavier" sonata for this concerto.
Oh wait - he actually did!
But I guess there are people who prefer Lupus harmless exercice in generic politeness.

He played my beloved Schubert so beautifully. And Beethoven too. A few years back he gave a beautiful recital in Rome, Schubert and Franck. The next month Lang Lang came along thinking he could handle the D960 sonata... it was pitiful.

Great performance. I usually like to watch live performances of beautiful women playing piano concertos like Alice Sara Ott, Yuja Wang and Khatia Buniatishvili but Radu Lupu is such a great pianist I have hear him as well. I have a list of male performers that I listen to depending on what the composition is. All good.

Oh dear, he looks SO old! Why in earth do grey/white haired men insist on having a matching beard! It ages them terribly.
I remember him bursting on the scene as a young man, winning those competitions shown on BBC TV - 1969 Leeds Piano Competition. And also Murray Perahia who won it in 1972.
