This piano sonata is so very unique in concept and soulful skillful compositional execution. I perceive it may be providential that it is also posthumous. “The spirit of man is the candle of THE LORD searching all the innermost parts of the belly”. This proverb bears powerfully on this sublime piece and masterwork. Schubert’s continual fascination with triplets embellish the first movement with almost unutterable psychological depth of eloquence and poetry. Earlier today while listening to the middle movement of Beethoven’s 4th piano concerto I thought how Plato wrote: “what is needed are not speeches which are long or short but that are of the right length.” I have a decades old LP featuring Rudolf Serkin in this great piano sonata. “Sorrow is better than laughter, for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better.” This scripture indicates the importance of suffering for spiritual refinement and emotional clarity which provides strength to transcend the temporal into the eternal image of God in Christ Jesus. Over the years and decades the inspiration provided by works of this high caliber have mightily assisted me in discovering the truth of who I am by patient endurance of the fires of this present life. “But, we have this treasure in earthen vessels that the excellency of the power may be of God and not of us.” “Music expresses wordless odysseys”. “Sound words are the unerring framework upon which the blessed conscience revolves.” PWG

Amazing, Eric Lu! You are just proving, that Schubert could match his great idol, Beethoven! Exeptional!

Remarkable young fella! Awesome piece by an awesome artist! That last movement so beguiling - mostly the sentiment of wanting to live forever yet we know the composer's dire situation.

So great to see a young pianist focused on the German composers. I first heard him at the Chopin but this is really remarkable.
