      Hi I'm trying to remove a eeprom but for some reason the solder will not melt iv tried it at 400c with hot air and will not melt any help will be grate

      Mix some lead solder, that will help reduce the melting point...

    I had to swop the eprom over onto another set of speedo clocks on my vectra c, so It would diaplay the correct milage. Worked a treat considering it was my first time desoldering and re-soldering a eprom. Great video as always.

    I've never found better video about soldering chips. I've failed trying to solder eeprom but after I watched this video I wish to try again. Just need to find out first what kind of flux and solder is good for this kind of job.

    Add flux on pads after removing parts and melt the solder on them with heat gun before replace components!

    If you ever run out of the Aluminium tape, google Kapton tape - it is made for protecting heat sensitive devices / plastics etc. The tape also isn't conductive like the aluminium tape.

    Does the aluminum tape not short out anything?
    What do you use to clean the circuit board?

      The board is not powered...
      And once the work done, the tape is removed...
      I use isopropyl alcohol...

    I noticed on first technique you applied the flux as a glue to hold epprom like chip in place before heating the legs up again. I am reading you said you need to clean flux off so you get a good read. I am going to attempt to replace the epprom chip on my TV and want to know if first technique will work. How do you clean it if you use it as glue?

      I don't use it as a glue... that is just the flux consistency... you can clean using alcohol...

    Thank you. You just earned another subscriber :). Can you make a short video to solder the eeprom with soldering paste with hot gun. I just need to make sure the right temp and which paste is the best, because I just keep burning the eeprom legs :). I bought some chip electronic stuff, just to practice with eeprom soldering.
    At the first try, I did an amazing soldering, it was the ECM of 2001 Lexus RX300, but I don't remember which paste I choose T3 or T5 and what temp I choose. Since then, I keep burning eeproms.

    Video was good but you have applied heat on pins longer instead of doing it once. You may remove your bulky solder from pins with help of desoldering braid / solder wick. That is how you can apply less heat at once and remove bulky solder at once. After you may drag your soldering iron tip on pins only one time with little solder on tip. I usually do this technique and it's better way to not apply heat repeatedly on same pins or area.

      This was just a brief demonstration...
      Of course depending on what you are doing, you need to apply more or less heat, remove solder with wick first, etc...

      The flux is to remove oxidized metal from the surface of the metal... just Google it...
      To clean, I use isopropyl alcohol...
      You need to clean, specially if you plan to read it... otherwise the flux prevents a good electric contact...

    What temperature is your heatgun to melt the solder?One i bought was a 500 degrees centigrade one,eeprom won't budge????

      Probably lead free solder, but, at that temperature should do...
      Maybe that 500 reading is incorrect...
      Use some lead solder to mix with the lead free solder using the soldering iron, then should easily come of...

      Carry on practicing, as I said, use lead solder to mix with the lead free, that helps a lot...
      Or buy some low temp solder for those situations...

      Conor Cousins they dont go anyway around , there is always a mark position pin 1 side on chip but not always marked on the pcb so mabe you want to make a sign on pcb when desolder it.

      You have to mention that is much better to desold and sold by hot air when you have to test a lot with the chip, if you use solder iron more times you risk to damage traces because they are very thin.

    Hi man! I was trying to remove eeprom from toyotas immobilizer on 300 degree, same air speed, but it doesn't want to come off. What can be a problem???

      Use flux to help out... if the pcb is lead free, with the soldering iron to mix some lead solder...
      Another thing is, if your hot air gun temp is not correct, or you are keeping it too far from the chip...

      Either in the external eprom, or in the eprom of the MCU.
      Some cars can have it on the flash of the MCU as well... you need to search for that specific ecu...

      The one I use is nothing special... is good to inspection, to actually solder and watch at the same time you might want something different...
      Nut the one I use, you can easily find it on eBay... my one is the 500x version.

    I'm curious how you desoldered the cpu chip from that board... Doesn't the solder on one side of the chip re-harden as your going around the chip with the soldering iron when there are that many pins?

    You approach this somewhat like Louis Rossman does. Only he relies heavily on scope views when he's doing work so you'll see what he's talking about. He's so much into anti-Apple ... you have to pick what videos to watch.

    hello! i have a problem... when i try to read at 25010 eeprom, program will read only zeros what that means and what means if it shows only F:s.?

      That's either a bad reading, due to poor connections etc... or the chip is blank...

      @@LMAutoRepairs i dont have yet any adapters so i used a4 adapter (from carprog set) and solder directly to eeprom. I have checked multiple times and they are correcly.
      why i cant write anything to eeprom if its blank?
      Im trying to put immo emulator to ford puma 1998 so i wonder that if i order new one if i cant write to this, can i just put those values over there what julie's manual has ? (carlabimmo.com/julie-manual)

      If you have everything connected correctly, and the programmer you are using is compatible with that eeprom, you should be able to write whatever... unless there is some sort of WP on that chip... you need to research....

      @@LMAutoRepairs i can now read it but cant write it, have you heard about Block Write Protect Bits? if im correct you need to program the reader device to ''unlock'' to enable write. got the info from datasheet. have you done this before? theres not more info out there about that... (I think I bit off more than I could chew)

      On an ECU is pretty much always the same... flash the maps, and eprom configurations and immo... there is sometimes immo data in the flash as well..

    It’s best not to clean the pads with desoldering braid. Using braid improperly is the reason pads get ripped off boards. Instead use flux and add new solder to pads. There’s no reason to completely remove solder from pads.

      If you use the correct temperature and technique, no way you are going to rip the pads off... if it is happening to you, you are doing something wrong...

      @@LMAutoRepairs It doesn’t happen to me. I add fresh solder to the pads , replace with new part and reflow. It’s easy.
