    Hi! So far so good. At our house my grandma used a cheesecloth to get the milk because it’s thinner & absorbs less of the milk than a towel. She’d also use some of the coconut water to make a spiced tea & 151 Rum. She also never wasted good coconut pulp. She’d either use it to make a coconut Candy, or toast it with cinnamon sugar & use it in oatmeal or as a topping for ice cream or on arroz con dulce or coconut limber. I’m so happy you took the time to make this & show that our Traditional Coquito does contain eggs. Merry Christmas! Salud!

    Luv your recipe, my mom who is 82 yrs young uses egg yolks in her coquito. The only difference is that once the eggs were added to the liquid she would temper the mix on the stove till it reached a temperature that was warm, it took about 15 minutes, till it was creamy on top, and never let it boil. You want the egg yolks to cook so they are not raw in the mix. Mixing consistently though out the process. Once this was done and the liquid is cooled then she would add the alcohol and bottle the mix. Mom sold her coquito all over Brooklyn. 😀👍

    Good recipe I like it, My mom showed me how to make coquito from scratch. The recipe came from her mom. There are different recipes for all. Egg yolks are not always used since they are raw and not everyone can tolerate it. I do not use cinnamon for me it takes away from the coconut taste. yet, if someone likes it I sprinkle it on their drink. As for the rest of the coconut you can use it in arroz dulce or make dulce de coco. You add brown sugar and cook it. Also my mom took some of it and sprinkIed some on the coquito for those who like it. I love Christmas. Que viva Puerto Rico Feliz Navidad.

    We use a lot of fresh coconut milk in the Caribbean to cook so you could have added a bit of plain water to the blender and you would have gotten the desired amount of coconut milk, great video I love your energy

    loved your recipe - authentic yes because you used REAL coconut water and milk! My grandmother taught me to dip the coconut shell in water (after we drained the water and cracked open) then in microwave for 45-seconds for the flesh to come off easier! It works.
    But, you have great videos!

    Thanks for the recipe. I love your manner; so gentle ("Don't be afraid." 03:40); and those dreamy eyes... Ah but wait, I ' off topic!
    Your version sounds yummy, and most authentic. Do you, or does anyone have a recipe for how your grandmother, or great grandmother made coquito? I’m looking for a no cans version of the drink. Kinda like when someone makes pastellas they old fashioned way, maybe more authentic way.

    • @kandimegahan7844
      @kandimegahan7844 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, the coconut milk measured 2.5 cups (09:48), but you say you will still need to add some wannabe canned stuff. I guess my questions is how many cups does the recipe call for?

    This is how I made coquito the first few years from an old family recipe. The only exception was I used a grater instead of a blender. My hands were sore for days, because you know you never make only one bottle of coquito you make BOTTLES. I know use coco Lopez or coco goya, yes I know shame on me. Great video and it will inspire me to make it the right way. PS there is no such thing as a little bottle of coquito at least in my family there isn't.

    Making coquito the old fashion way is a lost art. My grandmother was born 1914 and we including I would grate the coconut and yes every year a brand new white towel to squeeze the milk out, no can milk or coco Lopez in her days. Also she rendered coconut milk for her rice pudding.

    What is it with the throwing out the egg whites I usually take a zip lock bag and freeze the egg whites for other recipes hum don't forget to write on the bag how many egg whites are in the bag, anyway I just wanted to mention how my grandmother and mother would always use coconuts to make this delicious drink now it seems like we've become lazy I mean it does save us time but I like the old school way, also our parents would boil the spices to make a tea to add into the coquito now we use dry ground spices ,ok what ever works right, wrong the old school way is the best way .thanks for the holiday drink recipe I'm going to try your recipe except I will be making the tea part too, ok I'm guilty of taking short cuts, I sometimes add Grace pure cream coconut it comes in a box 🤔😉🤗😚👍it's just concentrate coconut .👐
