When a bike makes you giggle that much, you know it makes sense... 😉 Definitely what biking is all about! Cracking first ride review, the can at the end had me chuckling 😆
Another excellent review Bruce, I love KTMs, they are right for someone progressing from a sports bike to an adventure bike without loosing out on performance as many of the other Adv bikes leave you wanting for, combined with a very capable adv bike in its own right.
When I bought my Multi in 2015, the level of tech on the bike and performance was amazing, since then Ducati, KTM and BMW just keep raising the bar! I think we can tell from the giggling you enjoyed yourself 😂👍
Spot on review again Bruce - no faffing, no arty farty pictures a proper bikers review - so it looks like between the Gt the Duke R and the Adventure this trio have the maximum ear to ear smiles and giggles covered!! 👌🏁😎

You’ve got the same giggle I had when I got my 1290, couldn’t agree more on your points between the GS and 1290, The KTM just takes you back to more those days of blasting around on your sportsbike and tickling your danglies but with the comfort of a GS.

I ride a 1250GS , and I took the new KTM Adventure out for a test ride last Tuesday. What a bike, if I was in a position to do it now I would have traded my GS in,unfortunately the KTM will have to wait. I can definitely see myself owning the new Adventure S next year. Great review Bruce! I need to take a test ride on one of these, never ridden a KTM before due to the ‘past’ comfort and reliability issues so just didn’t consider one, however......!!
Test rode the ktm sas last weekend, so impressed, think it's the best bike I have ever ridden. Think it's the bike I have been looking for, I used to have a rc8, loved the engine but the fuelling was not ideal. The new adventure has the brilliant v twin engine with excellent handling. Makes my multistrada feel like a tractor. Just trying to justify the expense. Be good to see bruce on something lively like the supa adventure.
Nice video and nice bike. Got a 17 plate superduke GT and love it, was going to wait until the new GT came out however this seems tempting, see what your thoughts are in your next video
As far as KTM reliability goes, my 790 Duke I bought used with 1,100 mi last September has it's first 9,300 mi service due a couple weeks. Apart from a couple phantom engine lights that turned off before I could pull codes and the quickshifter being iffy sometimes if you're on the beans, it's been a fantastic bike so far. I won't be selling it anytime soon but I HAVE to buy this new 1290 SAS. Looks like an incredible bike! Great review btw!
Just part ex-ing my 2017 Super Adventure for the 2021 Super Duke R. Can honestly say the Super Adventure has been an absolute rapid hoot - loved it. Fantastic bike. Looking forward to even more fun with the Duke
I rode a 2020 KTM 1290 R for the first time last weekend. It was so fast it made me giggle and laugh out loud every time I romped on it. Just scary happy power, probably the fastest bike I've ever ridden.
Well, I started out in 2019 wanting a 1290 Adventure S then I wanted a lighter ride and wanted the 890 Adventure R then I fell in love with the Triumph Scrambler 1200XE Steve Mcqueen edition but now I want the 2021 KTM Adventure S thanks to YOU. I almost would go for the "R" but the "S" better suits the majority of the riding I will do if I go serious off-road then I have my Husquavsarna 701. Thank you love the countryside you ride through. I ride similar not as green but pretty, DeLuz California.
If the reliability proves to be ok this could well be my next bike. I am also a 1250 GSA owner and nearly bought the 2019 SAS last time. I will be following your reviews with interest.
I have just got my financial ducks in the same pen, not in a row yet but getting there and you show me this big, expensive and wonderful machine with all the gadgets and performance I could wish for, which I really, really want... Great review Bruce! I'm off to tinker with my old Sprint ST 1050, maybe you could borrow one of those for your budget bike reviews series?
Great review as always, thanks. I await further installments and my lottery numbers with considerable interest. The BMW demo I took out last year is amazing but I think KTM have just thrown the GS's pint in its face.

Not surprised you liked this one, I actually had my money on the previous model being your next bike before you revealed the GS. Gonna be real interesting to see how you feel giving this one back at the end of the test.
I’m looking forward to getting back on my GS actually, but to see how it compares to this bike as it really is awesome fun to ride. The KTM has me grinning and wanted to ride it again every time I get off it. I’m hoping the Gs does the same... otherwise.... 😬👍😉
Sounds like a special bike indeed. IMO the look of it doesn’t do “it” for me. And I can’t quite get past KTMs past reliability issues. Oh well to each their own. Looking forward to seeing your future vids on this one. 👍🏼
I’ve had issues with Aprilia & Ducati, not KTMs. My 2018 1290 SAS has been flawless. Great as the bike is with engine, suspension, best feature is lights period.
Aye Aprilia are my worst manufacturer experience BY FAR too - utterly horrendous, to the extent I probably wouldn’t ever buy one again, despite me utterly loving the Tuono
Considering a used 2021 GSA and this KTM 1290 SAS. Curious about the difference in wind protection at freeway speeds 80+mph? Stability passing semis, windy conditions... Also, do you ride 2up, side cases, and have any comparisons to make?
@@ridemfast7625 Lots to answer here. Lets have a go. 1) Protection is similar and due to my height I have to have a givi deflector on top of the screen for both bikes. 2) Stability is slightly better on the GSA but not by much. 3) I ride 2 up and both bikes handle the weight brilliantly, the KTM has an adjustable pre-load while the GSA has an auto sensor. 4) No side cases but a 48L top box. Brief comparisons: The KTM murders the GSA on power and the sports bikes were not quicker on the Italian/Swiss alps a couple of weeks ago. The GSA has more low end torque albeit less power but feels more 'planted'. I felt that I 'sat in' the GSA, not on top. The KTM feels slightly on top but not by much. Now for why I swapped my GSA for the KTM: Adaptive cruise control, Illuminated switch clusters, self cancelling indicators, a comprehensive choice on what extra's to purchase which keeps the price down by not including everything. You can configure out what you will not use. Hope this helps.
@@ScragNath Thank you! Not many ride the 1290 2up. Im considering a 2021 GSA because it also has all the bells and whistles. Accept, the Adaptive Cruise Control. And that feature is of interest to me. And a new KTM costs less than a used GSA. Going to look at the ktm tomorrow. They dont allow test rides though. I went to the bmw dealership and they did not have any gs, gsa or even an rt - used or new. So, no test rides or even the ability to sit on a bike. Ughh... So reviews are the main source of making a decision.
@@ridemfast7625 Don't know where you are located but I road tested 4 motorcycle makes before I bought my KTM in May. I test rode the new BMW R1250 GSA, Triumph 1200 Tiger GT Pro, KTM 1290 Super Adventure S and the Ducati Multistrada here in the midlands. I chose the KTM after being a 4 year GSA rider because it suited me. Just back from an 8 country tour of europe. It was fantastic.
@@ScragNath Live east of Sacramento is the sierra foot hills. Lots of fantastic back roads and passes. The nearest bmw dealer is taking orders and said 1-2 months before they get bikes in. The next closest bmw dealer is about 2 hours away. Dont know what they have.
A hugely impressive machine. I will need to see a lot of provenance in relation to reliability before ktm is on my radar though. Your enthusiasm is infectious. Happy travels
My 2017 has been amazing in that respect, 30k km of all sorts of riding (including sideways action in the snow), knocked over (wind when parked, the crash bars are brilliant and relatively cheap, plus barely a mark) and massively better than my 2013 MTS1200 and 2009 K1300S. Amazing machines.
@@eubikedude good to know. When I see ktm matching Japanese reliability I'm in. But 790/890 is more than enough for me. And I'd like a lot less electronics. 790 manageability with 700 tenere simplicity. Winner. Happy travels
Fwiw, as well as currently owning a R1200 GSA and RE 500 Classic, I've also got a KTM 1190 Adv 'R' (fully tricked out with Rottweiler intake system, Tuned Velocity Stacks, Wings Exhaust, Scotts Steering Damper, et al) and that KTM is like a guided missile in comparison to the GSA. Enormous torque and hooligan fast, plus (as I've got the 'R' version) it's fabulous off-road - which is just as well as I live in West Africa, a place with a lot of red-dirt-road and nothing beats standing up on the pegs, whilst hooning down mile-after-mile of deserted African dirt road, at totally illegal speeds. Interestingly, reliability wise, I've had very few issues with the KTM and in fact it's been my GSA that's given me the most headaches & heartache.
Personally I think the GS is still a fantastic bike, it’ll keep up with the KTM - it won’t beat it in acceleration or top speed, but you’ll keep hold of it. I think the GS is more comfortable, and it’s a more relaxed ride, with practically zero maintenance required outside service intervals. However the KTM is a more engaged ride, it’s definitely more fun
Based on spy photos--much like the 2021 Superduke R but GT-ized. That will be the bike for me. No need for a 19" wheel. never gonna see gravel even--but need to carry the wife.
😂 Friggin' cans! The white van of lay-by's 😩...Love my GS, miss my 1190, feel like I've got a big KTM bullseye on my back, "this close" to a deposit, but they're not coming to the US until 2022...maybe a good thing 🤑...great as usual, Bruce 👊🏼
😆😆😁👍🏍🧡 great stuff Bruce. Loveing the fun and giggles on this one. I’m like that every time I ride my ‘17 plate SAS 😁 All you peeps banging on about KTM reliability 🙄have you been on GS forums😬🙊 Suppose y’all don’t buy Ducati cos of crap electrics 😆
Great review again, this KTM has everything the other's have got and more and it's cheaper?? Coming from my Busa ,Seriously considering one of these 👍🏻
I love the look & sound of this bike. ACC is good, I had ACC in my 2014 VW golf but prefer classic cruise as the acc can be too imposing & in a car get you captured in the motorway lane when slightly faster traffic is in the outside lanes. I know on a bike it's easier to accelerate out of being captured but I'd turn it off for classic if I had the option. I'd love a demo ride. Great vid Mr Smart
Looks good, any chance of sticking a top box on and also the missus and getting both your comments two up, some need to take a pillion from time to time so would be nice to see how it does. 👍
@@teapotone Cheers Bruce. Got a 1200GS and the natural progression is to the 1250GS, then you put this vid up and ???......sure it will tickle my danglies but what about the bosses er er bits ?
i was actually looking forward you to do a review as i know you had the last gen and you have the GT also BMW , so you ride them all so you can tell us the good story.
Loved this review. Thats what a bikes all about making you feel good and giggle like a school boy who knows he's in trouble but can't help but laugh 😆🤣
I recently road tested a ktm 1290 super adventure s and it was like riding a two wheeled tractor. So much vibration. The pegs were set quite a way back and even with the seat on the highest position, it seemed quite low as I had my feet flat on the ground. Surprisingly bad ride considering how many people rave about it. It almost felt like I was riding on the wheel rims. It may have been that particular bike, so am going to try again and compare it with the HD America and the Triumph Tiger 1200.
Doesn’t sound right at all Martyn, I wonder if that bike was lowered and what settings it was in? The SA S is a fantastic machine, personally I was really considering a swap from the GS and it was only the electronics issues that held me back really.
More dynamic, more agile, accelerates harder, faster and further through the Rev range. Suspension is way more advanced for the road, brakes feel more responsive but that’s probably due to the anti-dive technology and former road suspension. Seat is a lot more comfortable too.
@@teapotone cheers. Will trade my H2 SX SE in for one I think. Need the more upright riding position these days but as you say still need to be a bit naughty at times so need the power! 🤣🤣👍. Loving your work Bruce. Thanks for doing what you do. 👏👏👏

Nice bike, looking forward to the off road vid
Sounds like a special bike indeed. IMO the look of it doesn’t do “it” for me. And I can’t quite get past KTMs past reliability issues. Oh well to each their own. Looking forward to seeing your future vids on this one. 👍🏼
Take a look in person, even the last version looks amazing in person versus photos - a bit like Teslas. ;)
I am getting the one not sure about the S or R yet still thinking
Just bought a new 2022 SAS, the only bike able to wean me of my 4 year old R1200 GSA Triple black.
Intriguing - not yet available here in the colonies but very interested in your long-term review.
That’s interesting to hear Tony, cheers bud 👍
Great vid what helmet are u wearing
Thanks Mark, it’s a Shoei Hornet ADV 👍
How funny to see Tewinbury Farm at the end of the video.
We live 10 minutes away from there 👍
Looks like I might be trying one these when I finish with the XR , Was thinking of a GS
Hey bruce, what iphone do you have? I loved the ultimate addons case with my 10xs but worried about the camera on the 11pro max in the case.
When I’m done with the XR I think I’m going KTM.. What the hell is a gen 3 GT going to be like? 👌
That matey, is the question.
Good first look Bruce
😆😆😁👍🏍🧡 great stuff Bruce.
Loveing the fun and giggles on this one. I’m like that every time I ride my ‘17 plate SAS 😁
All you peeps banging on about KTM reliability 🙄have you been on GS forums😬🙊
Suppose y’all don’t buy Ducati cos of crap electrics 😆
So fast....so sophisticated.....so perfect! Please test Kawasaki 1000sx! Thank you!
Great review again, this KTM has everything the other's have got and more and it's cheaper?? Coming from my Busa ,Seriously considering one of these 👍🏻
I take it you liked it then🤣🤣👍👍👍it looks awesome mate 👍
Just what the doctor ordered 😁, good to hear you having a ball Bruce😉😇
Thanks bud 👍
Great first impression review mate team orange 🍊 😉🏍💨
Epic motorcycle!
You can select standard cruise control or adaptive cruise control in the dash 👍
@@teapotone that's great KTM give the rider that option. Would be good to see you do the picos on it.
Looks good, any chance of sticking a top box on and also the missus and getting both your comments two up, some need to take a pillion from time to time so would be nice to see how it does. 👍
Can’t do the top box but I’ll get Mrs Teapot on the back and let you know 👍
@@teapotone Cheers Bruce.
Thats what a bikes all about making you feel good and giggle like a school boy who knows he's in trouble but can't help but laugh 😆🤣
hello why have you not done a video on the ducati multi v4s?
Hello bud, I’ve not ridden it 🤷♂️👍
@@teapotone Ducati needs to get you on one!!
Camera vans can get bikes heading towards them now, no idea how tf, but it happened to me a couple of months ago.
Enjoy your 160 bhp.
Bruce, you have a filthy laugh my friend! 😂 Imagine owning one for use on your chicken strips tours, I think the GS may have met it’s match
Ha Ha, it’s certainly something I’ve been thinking about... 😉
What a great bike. Are those twin radiators adjustable? I've never seen one close up.
I'm looking at a GS just now and considered this. I want the GS suspension and I don't want a chain so I guess it's decision made.
you forgot to mention that your BMW will be on the road and not back in the dealerships getting fixed for silly quality issues like a KTM will.
@@tonebonetones My GS was back in to BMW for rusting sub frame, centre stand and side stand and final drive fimnish issues - they don't like salt!
How would you say it compares to the Africa Twin apart from being loads faster. Looking forward to the vids on this one. 👍
My pleasure bud 👍
The sound of the bike is mint. Need to find my nearest ktm dealer and have a go. The MPG (miles per giggle) was off the chart, let's face it, we all ride because of the fun factor... Another great vid Bruce.
The giggle as you accelerate says it all lol. Does it want to lift the front wheel like its super naked brother?
It will with ease if you have a fiddle with the electronics 👍
