2021 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S Review | Can You Commute In London On This Weapon? Adaptive Cruise

  • Join me on my first (kind of) ride on the 2021 KTM Super Adventure S.
    In this video I see what the bike is like to ride in the city, on the motorway and in slow moving traffic. Is something this powerful actually usable daily?
    Enjoy!

    Absolutely brilliant bike. Had the pleasure to ride on one a few weeks ago and it's a blast. Like you said, it's got loads of power and torque but isn't necessarily uncomfortable on lower speeds.
    Guess I'll stick with the ol' faithful tracer for now but it is definitely a contender for the future. Lovely video as always!

    Hi Sam, greetings from New Zealand ;) I just put down a deposit on this bike. Your review came across as genuine and unbiased. Sometimes I wonder how much the journos get paid for recommendations. I found the indicator switch awful too but having a Street Triple RS in the garage with self cancelling, I'm used to the tech now. The KTM will make an excellent long distance tourer and a hooligan machine when it's not touring. Best of both worlds...

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hello! Great minds think alike!
      I got used to the indicator switch after an hour or so, just resetting that muscle memory.
      Thank you! I agree, it almost seems like a lot of them are worried about saying things aren't perfect in case they ruin the relationship with the dealer/manufacturer.
      This bike literally does everything which is what really made me enjoy it. Tour, commute, off road, and be the weekend hooligan, all while putting a massive smile on your face!
      Thanks for watching!

      @Lord_C0mmander 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SamVBikes not necessarily. I want to get better wind protection to reduce fatigue and ride longer. So I went and test rode the new Tracer 9 thinking it would be great because it has a windscreen. Turns out it was awful for me, the screen caused a bunch of buffeting on my helmet which was much worse than my naked bike. I'm 5'8". The dealer even put an add on spoiler on the demo bike for me to try but it didn't help much. Now I know that I definitely have to test ride to know for sure, some "touring bikes" are actually less comfortable than nakeds

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ahh I understand you! The tracers are great but the wind protection isn't good at all. The best bike I've ridden for screen protection was the tiger 800 and tiger 900, but they don't have the grin factor that the ktms do! I could easily ride with my visor up on the motorway and barely have any wind in my face!

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course, I mean more the turbulence when I talk about it. Riding bikes like the Triumph Tiger and S1000XR, you have a complete bubble of calm behind the screen when it's in the highest position. The better the screen from blocking headwind, the less fatigue on long journeys

      I agree, it definitely isn't as premium feeling as the GS, but a vast improvement over last years model - better plastics, nicer TFT, switchgear is backlit and much nicer feeling etc.
      Mind you, saying that, if you configure a GS to the same level as the KTM, minus the adaptive cruise as that's not an option yet, you end up paying a good £1.3k+ more than you do for the KTM. KTM being around 16.5k, GS around 17.8k.

      @@SamVBikes 18.500ktm 21000bmw... Who's got those kind of money really doesn't care about price difference... I would personally pay hapilly extra for that luxury feel... Spent 4 days on it and then switched to ktm its chalk and cheese... Much better wind protection, no heat from engine, suspension!!.... BUT quickshifter looks better on KTM... Ktm might be quicker for sure but at my age and type of riding not relevant... th-cam.com/video/H_ceFqB7xv8/w-d-xo.html

      @@marekhlina74 I suppose it depends what you are looking for from a bike like these. Both bikes are aimed at different types of people within the adventure sector - I think the GS is a great all round bike which does everything very well, but for me, lacks any sort of character or thrill, whereas the KTM, has that grin factor but you make some small sacrifices for that. I've ridden the GS a number of times in a few different guises and its fantastic, but it's a bike to get a job done. If I can do the same journey with 95% of the comfort, but get off with a smile on my face, that's what makes a bike worth it in my opinion - again, something I look for in a bike that not everyone will be looking for.
      The KTM for me falls into the same category as the Multistrada, S1000XR etc.

      It hasn't no, but it was pretty warm and this jacket has no vents

    Indicators switch off automatically on this bike

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I mention that. Although sometimes that takes a long time so it's useful to be able to switch them off easily

      @@SamVBikes sounds to be a great bike. Atm I have a 890 R and it is fun to drive. But the adventure 1290 could be my next one for longer trips and more GT capacity

    Push the indicator switch DOWN to cancel....

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tried that... didnt seem to work properly either. I've ridden enough motorcycles to know how to cancel an indicator but this button just seemed to be very poorly designed
