    We've been working on this for such a long time, thank you for going in depth and learning how it works.
    This container pattern is just making it's way to desktop linux after years of being relegated to the server room --- and now we all get to enjoy Fedora's work and build the client stuff we all want.
    It's going to be an exciting six months, and we're hoping to integrate the new Fedora installer as soon as it's available, which will be much simpler and easier to use for everybody!

      While trying to create a SteamOS alternative you guys created the closest thing to my dream desktop distro I have ever seen in the linux space in my 2 years using linux, I've always wanted an immutable KDE Plasma distro with an arch and nix container pre-set up. You guys should be proud of yourselves, basically my only complaints with it are extremely minor nitpicky shit like how the implementation of GRUB could look a bit prettier with a theme and that I can't use it in Ventoy but I'm not sure if the latter is a technical limitation or not.

    Just a little info:
    Your resolution was fine, it was just scaling the UI to make it usable on a touch screen. KDE (the desktop Steam OS uses) is basically a “windows-like” interface, and doesn’t work that well for touch screens because everything is smaller.

    I'm pretty interested on how this fairs on a desktop PC. I see that it works on most GPU vendors (Nvidia, AMD, and Intel) that's pretty big. This might be the best Linux distribution to recommend to anyone coming from Windows and doesn't want to worry about terminal and all that nonsense.

      this is how to yes, garuda os gnome edition, pop-shell package and turn it on in extensions (its a tiling manager and you WILL thank me for this) then go to the AUR and build gamescope-session-git, now you have a full desktop os with tiling and a chimeraos(gamescope steamos) session to log into and it uses the steamdeck version of big pic so it is fully working just like on the deck complete with decky, installs on almost anything with 4 gb ram or moar, no need to even bother with steam os, this is meant to use as a daily driver and is not some stupid consoleized immutable crap, if you want that just install chimeraos

    Very tempting, especially with SteamOS 3.5 taking so long. Curious about benchmarks. I know there was a CPU security mitigation patch recently added to the Linux Kernel that might harm Steam Deck performance so would be curious if this performs better of worse that current unpatch SteamOS.

      The instructions to disable DRD are so you can actually boot from installation media, since the Deck WILL NOT see your bootable media if you have DRD on.

My guess is doing so would guarantee latest arch version for distrobox without the usual outdated arch update bs.

    I don't really get the need to use this on Steam Deck. It isn't a big enough change to warrant such a process for 99.9% of steam deck users. Steam OS is consistently upgrading and patching Steam OS with features, and the mods available give you plenty of new gimmicks to play with. Gnome, I am sure, can be installed as a DE in DE Mode, likely with less headaches like wiping device, etc. This of course is an assumption that linux is linux, but admittedly, I have yet to see anyone report that they have done it. That seems like the largest noticeable major difference to the normal end user. I also kinda cringe at Fedora being the bones of the distro. Kind of a rocky distro to use lately, but everyone will make their own minds up with that. That being said, I have tried a number of different OS's, mostly gaming centered and featured, from Fedora, Arch, SUSE, and Debian/Ubuntu. In my experience lately, a stable gaming platform for me has been on Debian/Ubuntu and Arch (likely thanks to Valve input) OS's than others. I really want to love some of these other systems like Nobara and Regata, but in the end, there was always a point I got to that something just doesn't work or gets unstable, while things just seem to plain work on distro's like Steam OS and Pop OS, etc. That all being said, I love the idea of an OS like this available for OTHER devices like the ASUS. Linux gaming is the future, if you like it or not, and honestly, the Steam OS experience I prefer over the ASUS windows experience anyways. Awesome way to run linux on those type of devices, likely to their advantage. However, if you want a linux based PC handheld gaming device, you prob should have went for the Steam Deck anyway. LOL

      I don't get your point other than "Most Steam Deck users don't want to reinstall". GNOME isn't really possible to install on the Deck because of the immutable FS and upgrade system. The mods that work on SteamOS also work on Bazzite. The "Constant updates with new features" also apply to bazzite, in fact moreso as system updates come sooner. How is Fedora more rocky than arch? I've used Kinoite (The distro this is based on) for over 6 months and it's 100x more stable than Arch, especially when it comes to updates.

      @udekmp868 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In a sense yes. But you can still layer native packages to the image with a simple command (rpm-ostree install ) and they'll survive between updates. Immutable isn't really the word. It's more or less considered "atomic."

    If you don't want troubles better stay with steam os ;-D and benefit from full valve support. If something happens to your steam deck with these changes, it wont be covered by the guarantee. Steam os will also get the newest linux kernel if valve has tested it enough for the next update. Bazzite OS is in the best case experimental. And if you stay on this os you will miss all important future steam os updates of course. Steam OS is especially developed for the steam deck, so there won't be a better operating system for it.

      @@SneeziLoki The anti-cheat is more of a Linux issue than a steam deck issue. It's more than likely that the anti cheat makers will have to support Linux. Though for me personally I hope they don't. I would never want something like anti-cheat installed on my system at the kernel level, poses more risks to security than it solves.
