Cordless Threaded Rod Cutter Restoration | National EZ3560

- I found this tool from Japan recycle shop in my city. It is an old model threaded rod cutter made by National, Japan. The tool is working fine except the battery. I convert the Nicd battery to Li-ion battery.
I use 6 cells of 18650 and BMS 3S60A to build new Li-ion battery pack 12.6V 6Ah.
* BMS 3S60A is a battery management system for 12V battery pack
- Charging voltage: 12.6V - 13.6V
- Continuous discharge current (upper limit): 60A
- Continuous charging current (upper limit): 10A
- Balanced version: suitable for electric drills with starting current below 120A and power below 260W, with balanced charging function
* Lithium-ion battery cell
- Brand model: LG INR18650HG2
- Standard capacity: 2800- 3000mAh
- Rated voltage: 3.6V
- Charging voltage: 4.2±0.05V
- Maximum continuous discharge current: 20A
- Discharge cut-off voltage: 2.5V
- Weight: Max.47.0g
- Size: Max.18.2×65.2 mm
- Charge and discharge times: 500 times

other then a new bearing and new batteries and never seen a comp chip on a recharge battery b4 but and the 2 gears could of been cleaner but nice job though :)
The dead NiCad battery cell will leak over time and cause damage to the circuit board, it would be better replaced with a piece of PVC pipe.

its a shame there are no 1:1 Li-Ion size replacement for those old NiCD cells, would make it easier
You can go for 18650/21700 Lifepo4 cells. Their nominal voltage is 3.2V (Maximum 3.65V), you can use 4x in pararel to replace 12V battery. But they offer less capacity in same-package as Li-on cells, but are more safer. Also they are making small BMS-boards for them.
@@SnekSnack and sure thats fine, but if you could get Li-Ion cells in the same physical size as this it would be a nice easy swap *if* you could get them in the right voltage and amperage range

Hi! Can you tell me the name of the substance and machine you use at 6:08?
Whilst it does work, man, it makes a huge mess of the threads. A good mod for this would be to get smooth dies (without the thread holders) and to add a stopper, so the thread doesn't go sideways. Prolly could put a really simple plate, screwed into the metal chassis, like an L bracket or something.
Source: i have a thread cutter, and it doesn't have threaded dies, they're smooth. The thread is threaded into a plate at the back of the cutter with a quick release nut. Made by a shop, so there's no brand, but the cut is smooth and clean with the exception of a small portion of the first threads on either side of the cut rod.
