Yes it ended up being that way for a lot of his career. I recently watched highlights of his double hundreds in England, which i missed at the time, and was suprised to see cover drive after cover drive. Something changed. Maybe he changed to avoid nicking off.
@@chapmcchap2919that’s just a highlights package for you. Even then he was horrible to watch, for every cover drive in that innings he inside edged five to square leg
@HkFinn83 fair enough if you watched it (it sounds like it possibly caused you some suffering), i just have an impression of seeing his later innings and there being no cover drives like that at all. Maybe straight. But that is just an impression, rather than a scientific evaluation of his technique or various innings or anything. I wholeheartedly concur he was not the most attractive to watch, anyway. Effective, rather. On that particular tour the best bet in terms of watchability from SA was probably Gibbs. Certainly not Gary Kirsten! Another crabby lefty.
It's a shame Dan & Andy can't be on that cruise, it'd be a hoot! Had a good chuckle along with this whilst I attended to a painting project 😂
Graeme Smith. Every off drive ended up somewhere between mid on and mid wicket

This was this old Left-Hander at Sawbridgeworth. Absolutely horrible to bowl to.
