Darkstalkers & Rival Schools are at the top of my list, but only if they have the same quality and passion of the originals; they cannot be mere works for hire who don’t care about the properties. Super Puzzle Fighter II & Super Gem Fighter would be interesting to see make a proper comeback (bonus to have X-Babies Vs Gem Fighter if Marvel gets their act together). Red Earth has such a unique mechanic (leveling up your fighter to earn moves and powers to defeat boss fights) that I’d love to see it properly utilized for home consoles in a new game (if not a new Red Earth). A new Fatal Fury continuing the story from after Garou would be fantastic (and maybe even some interquels between Real Bouts & Garou to flesh things out). Those are the ones I want personally, but I feel just about every dormant franchise deserves a chance to find its audience. I can appreciate having the older entries available to allow fans to explore the past, but true longevity seems to lie in proper sequels or new games. Just as Killer Instinct 2013 was developed by talented fans of the originals, similarly any franchise can be brought back to find its place in the fandom, just so long as there’s talent and passion driving it.
@@mcFreaki If they can stick close to the developer notes for Vampire Savior and/or Vampire Hunter, and their character animation can be as expressive and gorgeous as the originals, I'm all for it. Short of proper animated sprites like Skullgirls or Them's Fightin' Herds, Guilty Gear Xrd & DBFZ are the closest I've seen to a 3D engine look that good.
Yes with Bloody Roar one of the best fighting games growing up. Played all of them from PlayStation to the GameCube games. Modern day Bloody Roar would be so amazing!
I'd love to see a new TMNT: Tournament Fighters like the one on SNES, with the wide array of characters in the franchise and seeing all the previous games coming back with the cowabunga edition, it'd be amazing to see a new game.

you say that, but until maybe 1 year ago, capcom was hesistant to crossover. Everyone else is crossing over like it's nothing - Baiken in Samsho, Terry in...everything, Haohmaru in SC. capcom is the only one that wasn't playing ball in terms of crossovers. But with Ono gone, we may see this in the new direction(especially as they'll need a MVC successor since marvel ain't gonna let them touch the IP)

Cause SFVI needs to succeed for Capcom to find interest in supporting other fighting game. One of the reason why I thought CVS3 makes sense to return is that Capcom would be allowed to refuse SF6 Assets for CVS3. So overall would require way less work in comparison to a Completely New Game.

It'd be really interesting to see CVS3 come to life instead of in MUGEN. There's a wealth of new mechanics that they could implement and a wealth of new fighters that could be added to the roster. I mean, who wouldn't wanna see Terry vs Luke?

Bloody Roar 2: The New Breed is one of my favorite fighting games of all time. I put so much time into that game. At the time, my friends and siblings and I were all so young we didn't recognize how fully busted the gameis with this option turned on. But in vs matches you could play with the special rule "any cancel point" that just made it so you could cancel basically anything into a special attack, at any time, even other specials. Turning that on and just going crazy on each-other was the best.
I feel like we could do with some throwbacks to some of the more esoteric early to mid 3D era stuff like Ready 2 Rumble, Power Stone, Bushido Blade, Def Jam, Fighting Vipers, etc. Just stuff that's a bit outside the box or at least has a really distinct personality
Primal Rage should get redone especially if we could move to Kaiju/Mechs with special appearance from Rampage Characters. Eternal Champions I think deserves a redo as well. Power Stone, Star Wars Masters of Teras Kasi could use a new version and complete redos. If we can’t do MvC, why not just another Marvel Super Heroes on its own again! Clayfighter could use a return! Darkstalkers is a must!
It warms my heart to see how many people are recommending Eternal Champions & Weapon Lord. I had a lot of fun with those back in the day. It'd be cool to see them brought back. I could have sworn ages ago, the Weapon Lord creator wanted to bring it back, but haven't heard anything in a long time.
At 18:09 - dangit, I so want to make that remixed MVC2 where we give everyone their full animation set back!!! I study and reference Capcom sprites all the time when animating for Skullgirls, so I could totally count those frames and insert them back where they'd work best. Dear Capcom, plz hire us, thx!
Bushido Blade remake please. Primal Rage, Rival Schools, Godzilla Melee, and Clay Fighter are other top selections. I'd also like to see another attempt at a dedicated Star Wars fighting game. There are more than enough Jedi/Sith to make a dedicated light saber fighting game.
This shit really is the best. Three of my favorite people that have defined the last 15 years of my life talking about the genre that I love. It’s being with friends who care about fighting games and just throwing out crazy ideas. Beautiful, please keep this going.
Max’s thoughts on a new KI always get me excited about the what if. Perhaps I missed it but the only thing I’d add is that they have to put just as much effort into the music. Every facet down to using the menu was shown love and if it’s not Mick Gordon again (I would hope so) then it needs to be someone with the same passion.

As Capcom games go please use your combined brain power to bring back Vampire or CvS and for SNK it would have to be Garou or Last Blade I absolutely LOVE this series of games and would over the moon to have proper sequels for any of these great games. If we are talking about modernization of a classic fighting game (online lobby, roll back netcode, digital gallery) I would like 2D Samurai Showdown to get the UM treatment. Thank you gents again. I definitely feel like bloody roar, Darkstalkers and marvel vs Capcom are the top 3 most needed fighting games that need to return. They've done too much to both the fighting game genre and pop culture to simply make them go to waste. Fourth place would probably be KI, but that isn't necessary dead yet
I'm so glad Matt mentioned MACE, because it is still a little tiny child dream of mine that if I get my game Studio to do its thing with the project that we're currently trying to make happen, that that establishes me and team enough that I can buy the license to do so. No joke.
Funny little inside baseball. I'm one of the people working on an X-Men Children Of The Atom rom hacks (Uncanny) and the philosophy of our changes are giving the characters a modern day feel and snappier game play. A good portion of changes we have made are shortening animations because they just linger in certain ways that make the start up and recovery very long and drawn out. Bringing the animations back would be super granular.
I'd honestly love to see y'all's vision of MVC4. It's a series that deserves some justice after MVCI. I'm not a heavy fighting game player but MVC3 is by far one of my favorite fighting games that I actually really enjoyed.
Eternal Champions has already been mentioned by others so I'll just throw in Tech Romancer. But I'd want to go pretty radical with it and have all the original cast either not show up or be background characters in "sequels" to their original "shows". So G-Kaiser is replaced by Great G-Kaiser, Dixon replaced by Zeta Dixon, Pulsion by Pulsion7, etc etc.
If there is a fighting game that deserves to come back in my opinion it is "Newgrounds Rumble". It's one of the few flash games that I'm surprised that hasn't gotten a sequel on steam/PC since the game is super popular and is the first indie platform fighting game. The sad thing is the game was going to have a sequel but sadly it never happened. Luckily one of the sprite artists is interested in working on a sequel but hasn't found a programmer and doesn't have a team to make the game a reality. A sequel to Newgrounds Rumble would be super hype for so many people and myself included.
@@FancyMyBuisness It's a game that a lot of people need to know since it's a game that is a celebration of Newgrounds and flash. If Mindchamber (the main sprite artist) could find a programmer and get a team to get the sequel on Kickstarter then Newgrounds Rumble 2 (or sequel to NGR) will finally happen. I'm hoping more people talk about it. Heck if TH-camrs tell people to play Newgrounds Rumble or talk about it that will cause people to help Mindchamber to make the sequel a reality.

I have a soft spot for Dream Factory. Tobal 2 being my favorite 3D fighter to this day. So I would love to see a Tobal 3. But give it a nice proper budget to go nuts with. I would love to see the quest mode turn into a fully made RPG, with actual towns and such packed with npc’s to talk to and challenge to a fight. Dungeons could still be randomly generated, but current hardware can make them way more detailed. In Tobal 2, you could unlock playable monsters by tossing a purple stone at them when weak, it was basically Pokémon, but I would change it to where you could purchase them with in game money. I wanna see a large roster again with this. Instead of picking a single character to solo dungeons, you could maybe have about 3 characters as a party and change who you play as so you’re not too overwhelmed with only a single life bar. Characters not being controlled could rest and gain a little health back. For tournament and vs, definitely add some new unique characters. The main roster should all have fully animated (or in game) endings like before. The tournament mode was always more focused as an actual tournament, so have lots of spectators in the background of various stages cheering on the fights. I love the gameplay as it is, so I can’t really think of any major changes there.
The DreamFactory from the Squaresoft era is long gone at this point. As much as I would love to see a new Tobal style game, the main issue is that DreamFactory fighters where not very popular, and are looked rather negatively compared to Tekken, and Virtua Fighter. It's not uncommon for people to see Tobal as a Tekken rip off. If it did happen I would prefer the gameplay to be more like Kakuto Chojin since I feel like that game was a evolution of Tobal, and The Bouncer into one. Of course keep the grappling system from Tobal 2 but have Kakuto Chojin's movement, and speed boost mechanic for combos, and defensive options.
@@ThrashMetalWolf666 The speed boost would be interesting to see. Maybe include the interrupt option like Ehrgeiz and I think Tobal M had it as well. In any case, I would like for someone to make a game similar to the Dream Factory titles at some point. Not only would you get the FGC on board, but I’m sure newer fans would enjoy the quest mode if done right. I always feel like some games would have performed differently had they been released later instead of the 90’s/2000’s.
@@Goufunaki I don't think the interrupt option would be necessary since Kakuto Chojin has a dodge mechanic that allows any attack to be evaded by tapping forward at the right time, giving more options for punishing. I do agree that a Tobal style game made today can actually work, but that depends if people are willing to put the effort into a good quest mode while still delivering a fighting game. And considering that modern 3D fighters don't put much effort into single player, It would be difficult to do well if competitive play is the priority.
Good stuff. You could also try breaking the show into segments, main topic, optional secondary topic and retro game of the week, but I like what you got going now.

So many old beloved classic fighting games that deserve to return. Darkstalkers and Rival Schools are for sure the ones I want to return the most cause their characters are just so iconic and loved and it would just be amazing to return and in RE Engine no less!
I like that idea for a Bloody Roar reboot story, the president of this Zoan Society holds a tournament to find the next ultimate Beast and this tournament happens every ten years. and the president is the last tournament winner and was crowned Ultimate Beast.

Also, max use to have a series I love, “max and X vs the world”. He played old fighting games and did the funny cheese strata with guest stars. I think you guys plaguing like mvc2 on fightcade and picking the cheese teams or things with funny interactions. Basically, maybe a 20 minute segment where you guys play games against people on fightcade for the memes. Like excellent adventures. Edit: Justin would have to fight last…probably. DLC characters killed the fun of unlocking secret characters. This should come back. But it'll probably be like "play this mobile game and unlock characters in your game" kinda shit.
I'd be ok with " you can unlock characters, or pay to unlock them immediately." That way the pros who don't care can try out who they like/ who is high tier, but casuals still get to unlock everything.
Although I only expect Capcom to do SF6 & a Versus game this console generation, I'd be down for Darkstalkers, Rival Schools, & Power Stone coming back. Hell, with Capcom veering more towards realism for their AAA projects, smaller stuff like Darkstalkers would be perfect for stylization since it'd probably not reach mainstream appeal anyway. As for MvC4, even with the Fox ban gone, I feel like we'd still see a focus on the MCU since it encompasses most of the Marvel at this point (soon to include the F4 & X-Men). Basically you'd be more likely to see Ms. Marvel & Shang-Chi than Sabertooth or Juggernaut.

There are a bunch of great series/games that I miss a ton, like Killer Instinct, Darkstalkers, Virtua Fighter, Last Blade, Power Stone and Martial Masters, but there’s also a lot of fighters that were maybe regarded as midtier or even worse that I thought had great ideas or concepts that could be amazing if brought back well. Eternal Champions is still a great concept with fun characters. Mace: The Dark Age is Soul Calibur meets Mortal Kombat and I love that idea. Primal Rage, Weaponlord, Toshinden, Golden Axe: The Duel… Honestly, even Mortal Kombat clones like Way of the Warrior and Kasumi Ninja could be cool if they were actually handled well. I also think Tao Feng and Kakuto Chojin had potential. Same goes for a Star Wars fighting game, even if Masters of Teras Kasi didn’t get a lot right.

I don't think Rival Schools would have it as bad since if a new game did happened, Hideaki Itsuno would be involved in it.

It warms my heart to see how many people are recommending Eternal Champions & Weapon Lord. I had a lot of fun with those back in the day. It'd be cool to see them brought back. I could have sworn ages ago, the Weapon Lord creator wanted to bring it back, but haven't heard anything in a long time.

Bushido Blade remake please. Primal Rage, Rival Schools, Godzilla Melee, and Clay Fighter are other top selections. I'd also like to see another attempt at a dedicated Star Wars fighting game. There are more than enough Jedi/Sith to make a dedicated light saber fighting game.

Max’s thoughts on a new KI always get me excited about the what if. Perhaps I missed it but the only thing I’d add is that they have to put just as much effort into the music. Every facet down to using the menu was shown love and if it’s not Mick Gordon again (I would hope so) then it needs to be someone with the same passion.

As Capcom games go please use your combined brain power to bring back Vampire or CvS and for SNK it would have to be Garou or Last Blade I absolutely LOVE this series of games and would over the moon to have proper sequels for any of these great games.

I definitely feel like bloody roar, Darkstalkers and marvel vs Capcom are the top 3 most needed fighting games that need to return. They've done too much to both the fighting game genre and pop culture to simply make them go to waste. Fourth place would probably be KI, but that isn't necessary dead yet
I'm so glad Matt mentioned MACE, because it is still a little tiny child dream of mine that if I get my game Studio to do its thing with the project that we're currently trying to make happen, that that establishes me and team enough that I can buy the license to do so. No joke.
Funny little inside baseball. I'm one of the people working on an X-Men Children Of The Atom rom hacks (Uncanny) and the philosophy of our changes are giving the characters a modern day feel and snappier game play. A good portion of changes we have made are shortening animations because they just linger in certain ways that make the start up and recovery very long and drawn out. Bringing the animations back would be super granular.

I'd honestly love to see y'all's vision of MVC4. It's a series that deserves some justice after MVCI. I'm not a heavy fighting game player but MVC3 is by far one of my favorite fighting games that I actually really enjoyed.

Eternal Champions has already been mentioned by others so I'll just throw in Tech Romancer. But I'd want to go pretty radical with it and have all the original cast either not show up or be background characters in "sequels" to their original "shows". So G-Kaiser is replaced by Great G-Kaiser, Dixon replaced by Zeta Dixon, Pulsion by Pulsion7, etc etc.
If there is a fighting game that deserves to come back in my opinion it is "Newgrounds Rumble". It's one of the few flash games that I'm surprised that hasn't gotten a sequel on steam/PC since the game is super popular and is the first indie platform fighting game. The sad thing is the game was going to have a sequel but sadly it never happened. Luckily one of the sprite artists is interested in working on a sequel but hasn't found a programmer and doesn't have a team to make the game a reality. A sequel to Newgrounds Rumble would be super hype for so many people and myself included.

@@FancyMyBuisness It's a game that a lot of people need to know since it's a game that is a celebration of Newgrounds and flash. If Mindchamber (the main sprite artist) could find a programmer and get a team to get the sequel on Kickstarter then Newgrounds Rumble 2 (or sequel to NGR) will finally happen. I'm hoping more people talk about it. Heck if TH-camrs tell people to play Newgrounds Rumble or talk about it that will cause people to help Mindchamber to make the sequel a reality.

I have a soft spot for Dream Factory. Tobal 2 being my favorite 3D fighter to this day. So I would love to see a Tobal 3. But give it a nice proper budget to go nuts with. I would love to see the quest mode turn into a fully made RPG, with actual towns and such packed with npc’s to talk to and challenge to a fight.
Dungeons could still be randomly generated, but current hardware can make them way more detailed. In Tobal 2, you could unlock playable monsters by tossing a purple stone at them when weak, it was basically Pokémon, but I would change it to where you could purchase them with in game money. I wanna see a large roster again with this. Instead of picking a single character to solo dungeons, you could maybe have about 3 characters as a party and change who you play as so you’re not too overwhelmed with only a single life bar. Characters not being controlled could rest and gain a little health back.
For tournament and vs, definitely add some new unique characters. The main roster should all have fully animated (or in game) endings like before. The tournament mode was always more focused as an actual tournament, so have lots of spectators in the background of various stages cheering on the fights. I love the gameplay as it is, so I can’t really think of any major changes there.
The DreamFactory from the Squaresoft era is long gone at this point. As much as I would love to see a new Tobal style game, the main issue is that DreamFactory fighters where not very popular, and are looked rather negatively compared to Tekken, and Virtua Fighter. It's not uncommon for people to see Tobal as a Tekken rip off.
If it did happen I would prefer the gameplay to be more like Kakuto Chojin since I feel like that game was a evolution of Tobal, and The Bouncer into one. Of course keep the grappling system from Tobal 2 but have Kakuto Chojin's movement, and speed boost mechanic for combos, and defensive options.

In any case, I would like for someone to make a game similar to the Dream Factory titles at some point. Not only would you get the FGC on board, but I’m sure newer fans would enjoy the quest mode if done right. I always feel like some games would have performed differently had they been released later instead of the 90’s/2000’s.
@@Goufunaki I don't think the interrupt option would be necessary since Kakuto Chojin has a dodge mechanic that allows any attack to be evaded by tapping forward at the right time, giving more options for punishing.
I do agree that a Tobal style game made today can actually work, but that depends if people are willing to put the effort into a good quest mode while still delivering a fighting game. And considering that modern 3D fighters don't put much effort into single player, It would be difficult to do well if competitive play is the priority.
Tobal 3 made by the DB Fightetz team would be insane and have Chrono Trigger characters crossover since they all have that Toriyama style

So many old beloved classic fighting games that deserve to return. Darkstalkers and Rival Schools are for sure the ones I want to return the most cause their characters are just so iconic and loved and it would just be amazing to return and in RE Engine no less!
I like that idea for a Bloody Roar reboot story, the president of this Zoan Society holds a tournament to find the next ultimate Beast and this tournament happens every ten years. and the president is the last tournament winner and was crowned Ultimate Beast.

Also, max use to have a series I love, “max and X vs the world”. He played old fighting games and did the funny cheese strata with guest stars. I think you guys plaguing like mvc2 on fightcade and picking the cheese teams or things with funny interactions. Basically, maybe a 20 minute segment where you guys play games against people on fightcade for the memes. Like excellent adventures. Edit: Justin would have to fight last…probably. DLC characters killed the fun of unlocking secret characters. This should come back. But it'll probably be like "play this mobile game and unlock characters in your game" kinda shit.
I'd be ok with " you can unlock characters, or pay to unlock them immediately."
That way the pros who don't care can try out who they like/ who is high tier, but casuals still get to unlock everything.
Dark Stalkers and Bloody Roar

Although I only expect Capcom to do SF6 & a Versus game this console generation, I'd be down for Darkstalkers, Rival Schools, & Power Stone coming back. Hell, with Capcom veering more towards realism for their AAA projects, smaller stuff like Darkstalkers would be perfect for stylization since it'd probably not reach mainstream appeal anyway.
As for MvC4, even with the Fox ban gone, I feel like we'd still see a focus on the MCU since it encompasses most of the Marvel at this point (soon to include the F4 & X-Men). Basically you'd be more likely to see Ms. Marvel & Shang-Chi than Sabertooth or Juggernaut.

That poverty collection with War Gods Matt suggested towards the end should be called Bargain Bin Fighters Collection.
There are a bunch of great series/games that I miss a ton, like Killer Instinct, Darkstalkers, Virtua Fighter, Last Blade, Power Stone and Martial Masters, but there’s also a lot of fighters that were maybe regarded as midtier or even worse that I thought had great ideas or concepts that could be amazing if brought back well.
Eternal Champions is still a great concept with fun characters. Mace: The Dark Age is Soul Calibur meets Mortal Kombat and I love that idea. Primal Rage, Weaponlord, Toshinden, Golden Axe: The Duel… Honestly, even Mortal Kombat clones like Way of the Warrior and Kasumi Ninja could be cool if they were actually handled well. I also think Tao Feng and Kakuto Chojin had potential. Same goes for a Star Wars fighting game, even if Masters of Teras Kasi didn’t get a lot right.
