I remember Kazuma Kiryu being highly requested as a guest fighter for Tekken 7 due to him being a hand-to-hand melee fighter and his visual similarities to Kazuya Mishima. When asked about why Kiryu wasn't included in Tekken 7, Yakuza series creator/director Toshihiro Nagoshi explained that Kiryu would never put his hands on a woman.
my message failed to go through lol it did get a bit too long😅 so I'll try to really shorten it down. Basically I'm not 100% convinced that was the reason, the quote was from Red Bull France, and being a Japanese interview translated into French then English, It can sometimes cause a light hearted comment to lose some context or sound harsher. I can't confirm anything but the interview which took place Nov 2020 might have been around time he was negotiating his leave with Sega, I presume it might be a long process and if so could mean he might not be allowed confirm anything about Tekken in the interview leading to his light hearted comment to avoid confirming anything. The Director Toshihiro Nagoshi and Producer Daisuke Sato both left Sega around Aug 2021 and as Max mentioned many employees who depart from big companies tend to not say anything until they're close to leaving. If any of that lines up, my guess would be that he couldn't really confirm or deny any plans to get Kiryu in Tekken in that interview and if there was plans it probably fell through since both Director & Producer were planning to leave Sega in the near future. There was also a twitter post by Harada that seemed to feature an unseen stage that looks straight from Yakuza, back in Jul 2020
@@NolanDotNet Ok I think Harada's twitter link was removing my comment, my bad :( Anyway the only quote I ever found was "We do get this request a lot. Of course there are exceptions, but fighting games generally have female characters, and personally I don’t really want to see Kiryu beating up women." But yeah, as I tried to explain in my comment above, I'm still heavily convinced he was planned to be added before Toshihiro Nagoshi and Daisuke Sato finalized there leave from Sega, maybe Sega stopped it as management for the Yakuza team was going to go through changes. 1:01:10 Justin mentioned Naruto and thing is there actually was a mini-crossover between Tekken and Naruto. Masashi Kishimoto designed a costume for Lars and that design was used as an actual costume in Tekken 6, on the other hand, Lars was made playable in Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 2. Both are Bandai Namco games but it blew my mind seeing Lars in a Naruto game.
Harada talked about a period in the late Tekken 7 development where the team was brainstorming ideas for characters, and they made concepts for KFC's Colonnel Sanders and Red from Angry Birds(????). Bamco actually got in touch with KFC for having Colonnel but they didn't accept. This is probably how Negan in Tekken 7 became a thing, AMC probably just said "ok lmao".
How the fuck does KFC go from saying no to having the colonel beat ass to literally having a game made where you try and have the colonel beat your ass.
Not just having guest characters in Mortal Kombat but also the voice actors as well. Guys like Keith David(Spawn), Peter Weller(Robocop) and freaking Sylvester Stallone(Rambo) all in MK11. And not only those but other voice characters from the old 90's Mortal Kombat movie was a huge shock to see and hear return in this game which f-ing amazing.
The Injustice 2 TMNT reveal trailer is one of my all time favorite reveals. Being Injustice, seeing a sai thrown made you think it’d be Mileena, but then you see the bulky, trench coated figure reveals himself to be Raphael, and I’m blown away. What could be better than that? Instantly revealing all four Turtles will be playable! They got me back into the game instantly. Playing Scarecrow and the Turtles is beyond what I could expect from Injustice 2.
The way Jason menacingly walks across the screen in MK is still so fucking sick. But I think a guest some might sleep on is Assassin Creed’s own Ezio Auditore when he was in SCV. He perfectly fit that universe.
True, but honestly. Ezio felt boring to me as a guest character. Like yeah, he fits in the world, but he doesn’t stand out to me that much. Star Wars characters, Link and Spawn felt more fun to me because they look straight out of a different world. They truly felt like a guest character to me.
@@thefvguy5648 No I totally agree with you about those other guests. What I was saying is that he isn’t talked about enough. SCV isn’t great by any means which means Ezio becomes forgettable unfortunately.
Honestly, Ezio was the only character I actually found to be enjoyable in SCV, and that's saying something as a fan of the entire series. He was extremely fun to use, really fit the setting well and was very, very unique especially compared to the rest of the cast. Gerry is decent in VI, but VI is such a good game in general that he doesn't stand out as much as Ezio did.
Agreed another for me was Kazuya as someone who had been DYING for some form of Tekken representation in Smash. I remember reading that Sakurai wanted Heihachi in SSB4 but I think he couldn't come up with a good moveset or whatever and I'm just thinking why not use Jin and Kazuya since their devil powers will give more options as far as moveset is concerned. To see it actually happen makes that probably the hypest for me in any fighting game.
It’s interesting that Capcom has seemingly been scared off from doing guests in Street Fighter after SFxT, but I guess that’s what the Versus series is for.
They obviously aren't scared to do it, they just simply have no interest in guest characters right now and that's fine. Especially since the want new characters and old characters to return and don't want to waste character slots right now
Honestly I think its less fear and more with Street Fighter they have a backlog filled with characters that bringing one back would do all the hype they would get of a guest without the added cost of a licence fee. Gotta understand Capcom is one of the few videogame company's that could do a Supper Smash Bros like cross over that's why they don't do guests
@@CrystalMang0 Plus the universe of Street Fighter is big enough that it encompasses other franchises, so Capcom doesn’t really have much of a need for guest characters anyway.
Capcom doesn't *need* to do them but like man I really wish they did I would've much preferred if SFV ended with Kyo Kusanagi and they saved Luke purely for SF6. Would've been a higher note to end SFV on and would maybe even give Luke a better initial reception
I prefer Capcom do what they have always done, when they use other ip properties they make a whole game based on that (Vs Marvel, X Tekken, Vs SNK, ect) With that they have access to a bunch of characters not just one or two.
Gon being in the international versions of Tekken 3 is probably one of the more wild ones. He's fairly obscure. Speaking of Tekken, AND the topic of changing a character's style to fit the world more. I'd like to see a legit Mega Man X(or Zero or Vile) into Tekken's style. Seeing as robots like Jack and Alisa and Combot already exist.
DoA4 Had a Spartan. Her name was Nichole and played real similar to Leon/Bayman. She did have her own Stage and a Sticky Grenade grab. Also, this was in collaboration with Halo 3 getting the Ryu Hayabusa Spartan armor set. DoA has been my favorite for a long long time so I'm happy to share when I can 😂
technically, Soul Calibur III's guest character were the armor parts of KOS-MOS for the brand new Create a Character feature, which was also quite difficult to get.
Speaking of Soul Calibur, 4 legit had a great guest character roster. They had OC Guest Characters with wild premises "Hey, you like Amy as a character but play Astaroth? We got you. Want Cervantes to be a big tiddied demon slayer girl? You're covered. Sgt Frogs Dark skinned girl, better Demon Slayer girl, we even have a basic bitch knife ear for you simpletons. And worse comes to worse have some star wars characters, we don't give a fuck".
Someday more Smash fans will appreciate the kinds of guest characters we ended on with Smash Ultimate and how fucking bonkers it is. There is an official video game where Simon Belmont can fight Kazuya Mishima in Green Hill Zone and summon a Rathalos, it’s stupid/amazing.
I've always wanted to be able to do Hellsweeps to Mario characters. Can't wait for the next game to have more guests. Maybe not all of them back (sadly not Sora because jesus that happened *by chance* and he's Disney) but like idk we could get Omega Rugal vs Master Chief or whatever
Every time I play Ultimate (which is often) it feels like a fever dream you'd have as a kid, getting all your toys out of your desk and mashing them together. "No no no, we'll have Sonic and Mario team up to fight Ryu and Ken, but THEN Banjo and Cloud Strife come from under the ring. Bayonetta and Pac-Man are the commentators, and we'll have Minecraft Steve be a referee"
It really does just sound as crazy as it seems, you could literally replace the names in the last sentence to make like thousands of different combinations and 10 years ago, it would all seem like some like some made up leak on 4chan or someshit. "There is an official video game where Cloud can fight Banjo & Kazooie in Hallow Bastion and summon Knuckles." Like imagine hearing that shit back in 2012 when people thought the world might end.
@@Lavi_BT12 Yup, exactly, it's incredible and I cannot believe we're lucky enough to be in a timeline that has it as a reality. If you took the final Ultimate character select screen and leaked it in 2012, as you've referenced, people would have laughed you off the internet. "No no no I swear, they're gonna add Sephiroth, Steve, Kazuya, Banjo, Bayonetta, and Sora to Smash Bros! On top of the 75 characters already in the base roster!" It would sound like a joke and a bad one at that. Sakurai and his team are absolute legends and we're blessed to have such a sincere team developing a series like this.
When Justin mentions he wants Naruto, it should be a good moment to remember when LARS from Tekken 6 was a guest character in Naruto Shippūden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2. That was probably the most wtf moment for me in guest characters because it was like the Fred Durst thing like "wait they can guest characters in a licensed game ?" type of rule that i didn't know could be broken xD
Terry in SNK Heroines was mentioned, but that was still SNK to SNK. The inter-company crossovers involved in that were Thief Arthur from Million Arthur (which led to Iori becoming a crossover character in that game), and Skullomania from EX Layer (which also got Terry into that).
For me a cool guest character was Lars from Tekken 6 being in Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 2. I thought his design was pretty cool as I had no idea who he was.
Agree with Justin, seeing the insanity that was Yoda and Darth Vader in SC4 blew my mind and left me wanting more. Then seeing NRS capitalise on that with various horror icons starting with Freddy in MK9 was a dream come true for me.
@TeemoQuinton to be fair if we got current dad kratos in a fighting game that'd be super sick. Blades and axe and fist combos mixing in some of the other stuff from ragnarok he'd be stupid fun to learn
I remember the Star Wars: Visions of the Blade comic explaining why the lightsabers don't cut through the other weapons in Soulcalibur, because in the old Expanded Universe there was a material called cotorsis (or something like that) that was lightsaber resistant, and the SC weapons were apparently very similar.
The character that made me go "oh fuck, we're doing this now" was predator. Freddy and the star wars boys always felt like the SC2 characters did. Flash in the pan one off gimmicks. MKX is what changed everything there for me
Negan is my favorite guest character I've never asked for. I loved the walking dead and hating him there but after grinding rank with him I can't help how much I love him.
Guest characters are easily one of my favorite parts of fighting games, and possible THE favorite part. It’s not seeing them, but rather seeing how the characters are adapted and changed to fit the new medium.
A guest character that I want to see in the next MK game is Iron Maiden mascot Eddie. There are so many designs you can pick from like axe-wielding Killers Eddie, the mummy Powerslave Eddie or my personal favorite cyborg Somewhere In Time Eddie. Maiden already have done video games (Ed Hunter and the recent Legacy Of The Beast mobile game) and Eddie was a guest character in one of the Tony Hawk games. NRS, get on it!
Arbiter in KI2013 hands down will always be my favorite guest character. As a huge Halo 2 and Halo fan in general, at KI cup 2016 when they showed his teaser after Kim's trailer I lost my fucking mind
When it comes to what other action movie MK could add that hasn't been put in yet, my mind turned to Mad Max. I feel like that could round it out well enough
@@CollegeBallYouknow Actually, I think Dom fit more in Tekken. Seriously, Dom right now been fighting some powerful global criminal, assassins soldier and mercenary from various syndicate and corporation. Dom will fit well go up against Dragunov army, the Williams sister, Bryan Fury, G Corp and Mishima Zaibatsu
@@shawziiz5031 It honestly is pretty fitting with how seriously Tekken treats wacky situations. But from a pure presentation standpoint, Injustice can deliver true justice (no pun intended) to Dom. Just imagine his super move doing car-fu on Batman or a flying headbutt on Flash.
I'd love to see a podcast episode on fighting game music. Favorite general fighting game soundtrack, favorite fighting game songs of all time, series that always have good music, licensed music for trailers (sf x Tekken comes to mind). Love these podcasts
I remember posting on Facebook on the Killer Instinct page saying how cool would it be if a Battletoad was added to the game, and within minutes, I got a cryptic reply asking how would this character fit into the game.
I love this podcast. You guys make my day everytime you release an episode. ❤ In the future I would love to see Street Fighter characters as KOFXV DLCs.
I was introduced to my favorite game series (Soulcalibur) via Heihachi's guest appearance in II. On the topic of KI, I think Eddie Riggs from Brutal Legend would be great.
There's likely a whole swath of KI players that might disagree(because in fairness, Rash is dummy good). But nah, i love the toad, he's my favorite KI character
It might be, but MAN the Arbiter trailer gave me goosebumps, made me tear up, and straight up made me get the game. As a die hard Halo fan, that is one of my favorite trailers ever.
Not sure if anyone said this, but the reason why the spartan in DOA4 isn't Master Chief is because Halo's developer's Bungie thought it would be mess with Halo's story and confuse people. So Bungie made up a original spartan just for DOA called Nicole. Her move set was also original to her and some of her move set got reused for Rachel in DOA5 and 6.
The one character that NRS never touched and should totally be in the next MK game is Ash from Evil Dead. Someone from Mad Max Fury Road like Furiosa or Immortan joe would Also be super cool
They actually full-on made Ash and he was planned on being the first guest character for MK11....he was dropped last minute (they even had advertising out featuring his inclusion) and swapped him with Joker.
Ash was supposed to be in MK11. But the licensing issue about the character give trouble to NRS. Let hope they can put him in MK12. As for action movie character, I personally want Riddick. He fit perfectly in MK verse. Of course Vin Diesel need to voice him
Guests keep games alive, but should be added as DLC later on to bring new people in or people who already play it, but can find another reason to continue to play. Baiken and Hibiki in Shodown were great guests for it, and I hope there's another Shodown, so guests like them can continue to be added to it.
It helps, but it’s not required. Street Fighter V got by just fine without having to go outside of the greater SF universe. Though to be fair, the Street Fighter universe is pretty vast with the likes of Final Fight & Rival Schools in the same universe as Street Fighter.
DLC definitely helps them being more hype. The only reason why Smash and Tekken 7 are main exceptions is because Smash Bros. is Smash Bros. and the way Akuma was done in Tekken 7 was just done so well, not just how he is in game but in terms of marketing. I'd say it's why everyone forgot that Geralt was in SC6 but Akuma is still one of the very first thing that pops up in people's head when it comes to Tekken 7
Hoping the next episode or a future one will talk about the aesthetics of fighting games. How visually pleasant a game can be with its characters and stages. The music and sound design. One of the biggest draws for me personally. Game needs to play good, but also look good
Thank you Jason, Matt, and Maximillian for another delightful episode. Speaking of guest characters, I seem to remember a period of time in which Data East's Fighter's History characters (in particular Mizoguchi and Karnov) were making rounds in SNK games due to the Capcom vs Data East law suit. Also VF's Kage and Wolf made guest appearances in Sega's Giant Gram Arcade Wrestling/fighting games (which are built off of AM2's VF engine). Speaking of Sega, I was a bit disappointed that no one mentioned Fighter's Megamix since that was the first fighting game to be made up completely of guest appearances (be it all internal properties) most likely prompted by all of positive buzz that the Daytona Car's appearance in VF2 got. Looking forward to next week's episode and thank you guys again for this trip down memory lane.
*The main struggle with guest characters, is that sometimes they get added with a unique style of gameplay or they bring a certain audience that would only play the game because of that character. And when the next games comes around, it feels a bit sad that the guest character won’t come back, and you might get the feeling of “oh, I mained that character. I doubt there will be another character like him/her, or even as close.”* For example; I started playing Tekken 7 because of Negan, Geese and Akuma. But I’m not sure if I would get motivated to play the next game without them. Or another example; Smash Bros. Imagine if the next Smash Bros would only have Nintendo characters. No matter how much better the gameplay will be, many people (including me) won’t want to play it if their character isn’t there.
THIS. This is one of the reasons why I'm more against guest characters than for. Think of the amount of interest Akuma generated for T7, now think of the players lost or lost interest when knowing he or Geese are not in. It seems they are now stuck just putting in guests to retain the increased player base.
You want my take there? Who cares? Like, actually, sincerely. Who cares? So what if someone is only a one over stop in your game of choice? It's still somebody who bought your game and gave your franchise support that otherwise flat-out would not have. And in case you've forgotten, the Casual who buys your game at full price because it looks cool *and* has Cool McOther GameGuy in it this time, and then plays it for like 2 weeks and never touches it again, is the reason you keep getting video games. NOT your fellow core FGC players. We're too small an audience to sustain these titles alone.
I feel like that'd be a minority. Like Akuma would be what gets these people into Tekken, but most would stay for the core Tekken stuff. If they only played for Akuma and Akuma only then chances are they just did not care for Tekken at all and only wanted to goof around with the guest Now with all that said, I've played Smash since I was 8 and idk if I'd play the next one if they left Kazuya Mishima out because that was my pipe dream character since the very launch of Ultimate lmao (I still would be but god Kazuya better stay, he's what Smash needed.)
I loved this episode with guest characters being my favorite thing! Like Justin, I too loved Jason in MKX, and I couldn't stop looking at Matt's No More Heroes poster. So yes, I agree to put Travis Touchdown in a fighting game ASAP. Lmao I love Max and Justin being surprised at a Fight Club
Soul Calibur IV to this day is my favourite entry in the series and as a kid, maybe 8 or 9 years old, seeing Darth Vader pull up looking bigger and better than ever to force choke Siegfried was like the ceiling being broken on what 'cool' could be.
I think one of the most random, "Why the hell are they here?!", guest characters I can think of is Makoto Mizoguchi from Fighter's History being in KOF Maximum Impact Regulation "A" on the PS2. I know that Mizoguchi's inclusion was because of flip-phone beat-em-up Garou Densetsu vs. Fighter's History Dynamite being made, but it was still such a random inclusion. A really cool inclusion, nonetheless, but still.
It was actually one of the many "I am the director so the things I like will be in my game" decisions that Falcoon made, considering he was and is still a massive fan of Fighter's History, and Mizoguchi specifically.
I feel like one group of fighters that have never been in fighting 1 vs 1 game that they missed was the crew from streets of rage. Axle, Max, Skate, Blaze. Man, I would buy any game with those characters so quick
...so wait. There's a podcast with Jwong, Max, and McMuscles?! And it's only got like 20k subs?! Welcome to the ground floor ladies n gents 😅 subbed for sure.
I believe it was bungie that didn't want it to be master chief and instead asked for it to be a different spartan for "fictional constraints", also halo 3 in return had armour based off ryu hayabusa
This discussion begs an important question: How many of the characters in The Ultimate Showdown have been in fighting games, either as guest characters or core roster?

I don't think this would ever happen but I would love it if in the AEW game they strike a deal with Capcom or Bandai Namco to get someone like Zangief or King in as a guest fighter. AEW already has a bunch of Street Fighter crossover T Shirt's so it would be great if they could get them to appear in the game. I mean this isn't the first time a fictional character has appeared in a Wrestling game, remember the Terminator in WWE 2K16.
I love that you guys mention a potential guest for Guilty Gear Strive. I've been saying that Ken Masters would fit in so well with a sick GG redesign. Would love to see that instead of Ryu, or Akuma, or Chun-Li.
I’m 6:30 in and no one mentioned Akuma in COTA, literally the most influential guest character in the history of fighting games. Actually kicked of an entire franchise/cultural phenomenon.
Only one that really comes to mind is maybe Mel Gibson for 80's action stars. I mean you got a bunch of characters to choose from but Mad Max might be the most fitting. His really savage fight style with his pseudo immortality kind of makes him a perfect fit for the MK universe.
There's technically a guest character in Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter. The Japanese version has a joke character called Norimaro, who is a bizarre otaku high schooler who looks completely different to all the other characters. He was created on a whim by a comedian called Noritake Kinashi when he visited the Capcom offices. I think licensing issues meant that he was removed in the overseas versions.
Honestly the fact that Travis Touchdown isn’t in a fighting game is a crime. You could do nice things with his moveset as being a sword wielding wrestler offers some cool opportunities, the Death Glove offers some fun moves, and you could even do something interesting with the slot machine power ups when you kill enemies. Plus you’d probably get a sick remix of the No More Heroes theme as his character theme so that’d be awesome. Someone needs to make it happen. The Crownless King deserves to be a guest character in a fighting game whether it’s Guilty Gear, King of Fighters etc.
I can't believe none of the trio in this podcast remembered the existence of the horror fighting game Terrordrome, because that game was literally just an entire roster of some licensed horror characters and then some based on horror stories and tropes.
Liking? MORE LIKE LOVING. I've been sitting around talking about the "ultimate fighting games" & shit. Now I get to hear 3 badass's do the same. Thank you guys!!!!
Personal favorite guest character: *Fio* in KOF Maximum Impact 2! Biggest _"Again, why TF isn't this person just in the game already!?"_ characters: • Mike Haggar in Street Fighter • Ryo Hazuki in Virtua Fighter • Kazuma Kiryu in Tekken • Dr. Eggman in Smash Ultimate And a really wild guest idea: *Morrigan* in Skullgirls
@@o_oro-q1k I know about that. But the fact that Metal Slug never got a spot in a mainline KOF ever again, besides bg cameos, really enforces a inpression that the devs always wanna see the MS squad as "too different from the _KOF style_ to be included" (...even though at this point we got freaking Samurai Shodown represented in XIV's base roster, and now there are even rumours of a entire SamSho team planned for the next DLCs...! o_O )
@@TheALVINtaker Yea. Don't know if it true about the whole Dante from DMC3 was supposed to be the guest in SC3, but we do get the actual Kos-Mos from Xenosaga series appearance in character creation. She technically the semi-guest for SC3
Marvel vs. DC. This one is a must. I think fans are beggin' for it to be made. But that's up to both Marvel and DC, to come up with an agreement or something.
Sora from KH getting into Smash has to be my favorite Guest Character. As cliche as that might sound, KH as a franchise means everything to me and I adored every single character announcement in Smash but to have Sora mark the end of Ultimate? God that trailer makes me cry every single time ^_^
My favorite was Mega Man in Smash Bros. and Turtles in Injustice is my second. My most wanted is actually Turtles in Battle for the Grid because that happened in the comics (we don't talk about the episode).
Matthew mentioned Litte Mac's appearence in a fighting game. Little Mac (from SPO!!) appeared in the GCN version of Fight Night Round 2 with Super Punch-Out!! as a bonus.
26:05 people would always say “anything can happen” after characters like cloud or joker, but it crazy to me that one of the most out there characters (3rd party, PlayStation associated, m-rated, uses realistic weapons) was the first guest character in smash
Never watched the show but, The cast of RWBY in BBTag! Since most of that roster was ripped from other games they clearly had the most effort put into them with nice original spritework and fun unique gameplay.
Always wanted to see solid snake in a fighting game besides smash...I always wondered why breath of fire characters like ryu( same name obviously) we're never a thought.
As for Solid Snake, he's in Dream Mix TV World Fighters. As for Breath of Fire's Ryu, he and Nina would be excellent choices for guests in Street Fighter X Tekken, but it's too late.
I still wish that Snake EVO 2019 moment wasn't a fake lmao. Otherwise I think Solid Snake could fit in maybe KOF? Idk, I see him getting along with the Ikari dudes
Killer Instinct but imagine Ryu Hayabusa from Dead or Alive/Ninja Gaiden, Atriox from Halo and Skurge from Gears 2, Kerrigan from Star Craft, The Lich King from WOW, Tyrael from Diablo, and of course top it off with the Doom Slayer just chucking Gargos' carcass aside in his trailer
Now if you REALLY wanna use a 3rd party character: Show a trailer of Fulgore and Jago fighting, Fulgore about to charge his beam and then...a harpoon chain pops out the chest and you hear "GET OVER HERE!"

HARADA AND THINKING ONLY ABOUT WHAT HE WANTS.
@@TeemoQuintonmost likely had having free chicken in the contract that's why they said no
Not just having guest characters in Mortal Kombat but also the voice actors as well.
Also the trenchcoat and fedora silhouette was leaked or seen early and a lot of people thought it was gonna be Rorschach
@@Dillbob1 oh man, that would have been insane! Honestly, he’d be a better fit for Mortal Kombat, given he’s fatality-prone.

Megaman in Smash was mind blowing. His introduction trailer really leaves me in tears of happiness.
33:22 props to the editor who caught Justin on his misread of Momiji as Momoji, putting up a pic of Zabuza. So funny!
The way Jason menacingly walks across the screen in MK is still so fucking sick. But I think a guest some might sleep on is Assassin Creed’s own Ezio Auditore when he was in SCV. He perfectly fit that universe.
Ngl when he was released i hated him. Went back to mess around and had tons of fun fighting him
True, but honestly.
Poor Ezio, becoming a guest in the worst game in the series
Honestly Ken’s trailer in the punch out ring in Smash Ultimate was hype as shit too
yeah, I would love a story mode In smash bros ultimate, where ken and ryu are training little Mac,
All of the Smash Ultimate reveal trailers are next-level hype as shit, they're works of art on their own.
@@actuallynotsteve agreed
Capcom doesn't *need* to do them but like man I really wish they did
I would've much preferred if SFV ended with Kyo Kusanagi and they saved Luke purely for SF6.

"There is an official video game where Cloud can fight Banjo & Kazooie in Hallow Bastion and summon Knuckles."
Like imagine hearing that shit back in 2012 when people thought the world might end.
On top of the 75 characters already in the base roster!"
It would sound like a joke and a bad one at that. Sakurai and his team are absolute legends and we're blessed to have such a sincere team developing a series like this.
@@Lavi_BT12 Only idiots thought the world would actually end.
Spartan 458 Nicole (DOA4) moveset was her own with a touch of Bayman. Her Moveset was repurposed to Rachael (NG).
She is also technically canon in halo lore, where she went back in time to the 21st century. Halo is the far future of the DoA universe.
Fuckin... Kunai chain gun 🤣
Agree with Justin, seeing the insanity that was Yoda and Darth Vader in SC4 blew my mind and left me wanting more. Then seeing NRS capitalise on that with various horror icons starting with Freddy in MK9 was a dream come true for me.
Eternally annoys me Kratos gets no love for mk9 appearance
@TeemoQuinton to be fair if we got current dad kratos in a fighting game that'd be super sick.

I would love to see an episode of missed opportunities for guest characters. Great episode!
One that really hyped me was Kazuya in Smash. That reveal was done so well!
Always still holding out hope for Guts & Griffith showing up in a Soul Calibur and Kenshiro & Raoh in a Tekken.
Kenshiro and roah would be better for mk
I really loved the discussion this week, especially Justin sort of manning the helm at the start. Great episode!
YES!
Hell yeah. The success of this podcast is earned and then some. Best cast out there with three awesome dudes. Congrats guys.
MK - Doomguy, Judge Dredd, Ash Williams (Army of Darkness)
KI - Conan the Barbarian, Red Sonja, John Carter and any of the Quake Champions
Judge Dredd would fit really well, especially if they manage to do something interesting with the different ammunition/fire modes on his gun
The Star Wars thing works for me because those movies were heavily inspired by old Samurai films
Arbiter in KI2013 hands down will always be my favorite guest character. As a huge Halo 2 and Halo fan in general, at KI cup 2016 when they showed his teaser after Kim's trailer I lost my fucking mind
A shame they didn't get Keith David to voice him though.
@@ultraspinalki11 I think David Chase did great tbh
When it comes to what other action movie MK could add that hasn't been put in yet, my mind turned to Mad Max. I feel like that could round it out well enough
I mean they basically had Master Blaster in MKX...
Riddick fit perfectly in Mortal Kombat. Of course we need Vin Diesel to voice him as well
@@shawziiz5031 Or Dom in Injustice. The power of family would beat everything else.
@@CollegeBallYouknow Actually, I think Dom fit more in Tekken.
In the future I would love to see Street Fighter characters as KOFXV DLCs.
Praying for a Team All Stars with Akuma, Kazuya Mishima and maybe like Baiken or whatever all in one team
But not before we get Kim and his awesome pants
I was introduced to my favorite game series (Soulcalibur) via Heihachi's guest appearance in II. On the topic of KI, I think Eddie Riggs from Brutal Legend would be great.
Guest characters like the TMNT just make me want a TMNT game.
TMNT Tournament Fighters 2 would be totally radical
@@nellyp2622 i dream about that game almost everyday
Can we agree rash from battletoads in killer instinct is easily one of the best guest character's ever 🤣
"Star Wars felt out of place in SoCal"
*Pans camera to Heihachi doing a fucking electric on Siegfried*
It's too bad that this would never happen, but adding the Castlevania Netflix trio of Trevor, Sypha and Alucard would be amazing.
Hoping the next episode or a future one will talk about the aesthetics of fighting games. How visually pleasant a game can be with its characters and stages. The music and sound design. One of the biggest draws for me personally. Game needs to play good, but also look good
20:44 And guess what? Terry and Mai are gonna be playable as DLC.
I like how you guys keep going back to SoulCalibur III despite not having guest characters. A lore junkie like me loves that game.
The power of the soul can clash with a lightsaber Matt. Another good episode, keep up the good work guys
I doubt there will be another character like him/her, or even as close.”*
For example; I started playing Tekken 7 because of Negan, Geese and Akuma. But I’m not sure if I would get motivated to play the next game without them.
Or another example; Smash Bros. Imagine if the next Smash Bros would only have Nintendo characters. No matter how much better the gameplay will be, many people (including me) won’t want to play it if their character isn’t there.
I didn’t play Soul Calibur 5 or 6 because I pretty much just played the Star Wars characters and Rock, and none of them came back.
If they only played for Akuma and Akuma only then chances are they just did not care for Tekken at all and only wanted to goof around with the guest
Now with all that said, I've played Smash since I was 8 and idk if I'd play the next one if they left Kazuya Mishima out because that was my pipe dream character since the very launch of Ultimate lmao (I still would be but god Kazuya better stay, he's what Smash needed.)
Travis being robbed of a spot in smash sucked, they could've put him in to celebrate NMH1+2 being ported to switch and make more hype for NMH3
Soul Calibur IV to this day is my favourite entry in the series and as a kid, maybe 8 or 9 years old, seeing Darth Vader pull up looking bigger and better than ever to force choke Siegfried was like the ceiling being broken on what 'cool' could be.
As far as 80s icons go, It’d be pretty rad if an MK game had skeletor and Darth Vader.
I'd pay $50 for Tony soprano fighting dlc. "This thing of ours, the iron fist tournament."
capcom did put a guest character in street fighter x tekken. Cole Macgrath from Infamous.
Everyone forgot about that one ha
I think one of the most random, "Why the hell are they here?!", guest characters I can think of is Makoto Mizoguchi from Fighter's History being in KOF Maximum Impact Regulation "A" on the PS2. I know that Mizoguchi's inclusion was because of flip-phone beat-em-up Garou Densetsu vs. Fighter's History Dynamite being made, but it was still such a random inclusion. A really cool inclusion, nonetheless, but still.
The sequel to Fighter's History was released on the Neo Geo as well.

*laughs in Ryo in Fatal Fury Special*
Honestly I love guest characters so much, they bring in so much hype and are just absolutely awesome! Thanks again for another great episode!
Marvel didn't want some comedian's teenage gamer-sona throwing pencils at their superheros
Great episode! Link in Soul Calibur was such a mindblowing inclusion, we used to play as him all the time at a friends house
Great episode guys!
Interesting that Kratos and Spawn have both appeared as guest characters in Soul Caliber and Mortal Kombat but not in the same entries in those series
I can't believe none of the trio in this podcast remembered the existence of the horror fighting game Terrordrome, because that game was literally just an entire roster of some licensed horror characters and then some based on horror stories and tropes.
Genuinely love this podcast so far
Kratos in Mortal Kombat as a guest character was a perfect fit in gaming for the PS3

@@o_oro-q1k I know about that. My favorite was Mega Man in Smash Bros. and Turtles in Injustice is my second. My most wanted is actually Turtles in Battle for the Grid because that happened in the comics (we don't talk about the episode).
Great show guys, cheers.
Just found out today. My three favorite TH-camrs have a podcast together. INSANE!
Remember that one crazy Evo where people thought Snake was gonna be in Tekken 7.
@@animustewshineotakusauce when u heard the radio from metal gear
As for Solid Snake, he's in Dream Mix TV World Fighters.
As for Breath of Fire's Ryu, he and Nina would be excellent choices for guests in Street Fighter X Tekken, but it's too late.
I still wish that Snake EVO 2019 moment wasn't a fake lmao.
Otherwise I think Solid Snake could fit in maybe KOF? Idk, I see him getting along with the Ikari dudes
@@animustewshineotakusauce Yea Solid Snake fit perfectly in Tekken universe
