Great episode guys, really good discussion. Glad that Garou is coming back because not only will it mean Fatal Fury doesn't have to end on a massive cliffhanger, but also because Yasuyuki Oda has been trying for five years to get this game made, and anytime a developer fights for that long and is that passionate about something it feels good to see it finally happen.
Before this podcast started Justin , Matt and Max were already top tier in the FGC. The editing, patience and respect in conversation and their extreme love for and knowledge about fighting games makes this one of my favorite TH-cam/Podcast channels. S+
Great reveals this evo especially with SNK, got my main Kim announced and Shingo is finally returning. Samsho getting rollback, crossplay for XV (and hopefully fixes Matchmaking. And shockingly Fatal Fury is back, never would've expected.
@@vagamer522 One would think the same would apply to Justin and his daughter Harper. I guess every family has different circumstances (who can find a babysitter, impact on marriage, etc.).
@@killerb255 No birthday collision for Justin though. Finding the time for a business trip, even with a kid, can work (although as you said, different for everybody), but I think everyone should understand wanting to be with your family for the kids birthday...
Regarding 52:58, no, SNK Heroines did not get a year and a half of updates. It got 4 DLC characters over the first 4 months, and then a PC release after 6 months, and that was it. One of the reasons it was dropped so quickly is because that was when SNK decided to switch to Unreal Engine, and so they pulled everyone off KoF14 and SNK Heroines, which were on SNK's homebrew graphics engine.
The reveals were fun. Kimberly and Juri in the pixel flesh was cool, it was so nice to see Bridget again and coming to GGST (sad she didn’t get talked about in this video) and the SNK was I agree, probably the best with so many things shown. Also, my heart goes out to the Gran blue fans who feel to their knees because of no Rollback netcode announcement. That one twitter thread was hilarious tho
Thank you Justin, Matt, and Maximillian for your thoughts on EVO. Once I played Final Fight in my local arcade, I became a Guy fan for life and I was really pleased to see his legacy live on in Kimberly. For my $, Kimberly really fit in well with the updated Metro city and explores the long history between Urban culture and Martial Arts. I'm very excited for XV's future since the inclusion of Team Samurai means that any SNK character may appear (now if only I can get Krauser to reappear in a mainline KOF game). Also am really appreciative that Arc System Works provided us a road map for the future of GG Strive. Hopefully we will get Slayer as DLC. Looking forward to the next episode.
the wrong characters at the SNK segment are kinda funny... Hanzo from World Heroes when they talking about Samsho's Hanzo, Billy from Rage of the Dragon when suposed to be Billy Kane, and Billy Kane when Matt is talking about Kain, was... something
Three best options for Garou: 1. Full on retro game with Neo-Geo style sprites and backrounds. 2. Hand animated characters (not pixel sprites) that are high detail like Streets of Rage 4. 3. 3D game that emulates Tonko's artwork in the promos and the original game's endings.
I will absolutely be checking this episode out tomorrow night after my hectic work shift. How I long to check out what will surely be the two biggest highlights of this entire episode: Matt and the others being psyched about the return of Fatal Fury, and the Great Crocs Debate of 2022!
KOF and most of the other SNK games exist in different timelines. AOF fatal fury and Buriki 1 and other fighters are all in a canon timeline but KOF is in a different timeline, and they play fast and loose with the canon, but Fatal Fury and the rest have a consistent story
Best Grand Finals: Street Fighter 5. That match between Kawano and Idom was the greatest since (for me) KOF 13 2013 grand finals. Best announcements: SNK. SNK had the most surprises of this year's EVO. Least hype announcement: Tekken 8 teaser. Let's be real, that teaser was nothing to jumping up and down for. Disappointments: No rollback for Grandblue Fantasy Versus, no rollback for PS4 and Xbox One versions of DBFZ, nothing for DNF Duel, and no Project L updates at EVO.
43:11 It says Fatal Fury/Garou because Fatal Fury has always been called Garou in Japan, and then they just added "Mark of the Wolves" as a subtitle to the only game that didn't get renamed to Fatal Fury overseas.
Yes and no. Fatal Fury is called Garou Densetsu in Japan. But "Garou: Mark of the Wolves" is not a Garou Densetsu game. It's a related franchise, sort of like how Maximum Impact is to KoF, where it's set in the same universe but the fighting mechanics and most of the cast are different. There's a reason they didn't just call it Fatal Fury 4, or even Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves. So what Matt is asking is, is it going to play like a Fatal Fury game with Fatal Fury characters, or is it going to play like Garou MotW with Garou MotW characters.
@@maninredhelm well the fact that the poster is focused on rock howard might imply its a mark of the wolves sequel, since you know that is his game... hopefully at least

No lie, Kimberly felt more like the face of SF6 than Luke between her spray paint gimmick & her love of music. And regarding Fatal Fury/Garou, I hope the scrapped MotW2 characters are brought back. Regarding ARMS, Bandai Namco only did the models. Nintendo EPD Group 9 (the Mario Kart team) primarily made the game.
Here's my big, out of left field prediction regarding the new Fatal Fury / Garou game: It's going to be a 3D fighter with 2D meter management a la Tekken 7 Geese. With the deaths of the Soul Calibur and Dead or Alive franchises, Virtua Fighter's future being unknown, and Tekken in its re-building phase, traditional 3D is the most wide open segment of the fighting game genre. And if SNK can get a 3D fighter in their stable to go with KoF and SamSho, they'll have 3 extremely different fighters that don't directly compete with each other. Garou MotW's mechanics aren't different enough and were bland even for their time, and SNK's lead devs have said that Fatal Fury's lane system became really silly once 3D fighters became a thing. So the logical next step is to make Fatal Fury a 3D fighter. (But not terrible like Wild Ambition.)
I would agree but we know Oda will be at charge at this, the guy was practically obsessed to make this game he was talking about this since 2016, i can't even count the number of times he was talking about it, he said he returned to SNK to make this game so probably he will make the most close posibly to the original MotW's sequel
