Ya know I've been living in North Carolina for about 10 years now and until I've watching all these videos of yours this past week in NC I had no idea so many movies were filmed down here. North Carolina would be the last place I'd imagine Hollywood movies being filmed. Thanks for the lessons.

I worked as a PA on EVIL DEAD II. The small room on the right, just as you enter the gym was painted black and used as a darkroom. Strange feeling to see what time has done to the buildings we worked in. Thanks for the memories!!

Let’s hope in the meantime, someone at least attempts to clean it back up, I can still remember that stench and muck in there. Love ED2, it’s one of the best things ever made of the genre. If it wouldn’t have been for that home video shot on the set, this place would have been so tough to find. I don't have an issue with different opinions or views but honestly and you would know this to be true and that is that you are been quite cruel to another.
Ryan before you get ready to come back with a reply to run Adam's name through the muck what is it exactly that you are trying to achieve by doing so?
Do you have a channel that you vlog daily updates from or a job? And if so how would you like it if someone came to your work and started harassing you verbally?
Do you really wish hurtful words onto others? Life is hard enough as it is mate and though I'm not sure that you would care or not but I enjoy Adam's videos and they help me escape from the hardships of everyday life .... I get to go on the adventure with him and so do many others who also enjoy the same experience.

"Groovy!" Love this one, Adam! EVIL DEAD 2 is my favorite of the EVIL DEAD films because it's is just so much fun! "Workshed!" I have probably seen this movie 30+ times since I was a teenager. In '87, I would have been 17 years old, and I've seen it again and again. I actually got to watch the movie years ago at a midnight showing in Cherryhill, NJ with Bruce Campbell moderating the experience, and taking Q&A afterwards! At the event, Bruce was decked out in an Hawaiian shirt, Bermuda shorts, and was wearing socks and sandals! lol.
Fun fact #1: The car (AKA: "The Classic") in the film is actually Raimi's personal car that he's had since high school. It has been repaired over and over again and it appears in SPIDER-MAN, and in DRAG ME TO HELL. I've read that Raimi still owns and drives it.
Fun fact #2: As far as the photo in the gym depicting the blue screen goes, blue screens used to be used before green screens to do matte and production shots. The problem with blue screens is that color spills into the shots more with the blue screens, and that sometimes put a line or glow of color around the person in front of the matte shot. This wasn't such a concern with the green screens, which generally produced cleaner shots.

Pretty cool. I took a trip to see the filming locations for Evil Dead 2 and The Color Purple a couple of years ago. It was a rainy, blustery day, so I didn’t venture into the dilapidated gym that was used as a soundstage. It was still pretty neat to stand there and realize “horror history” happened in that place.

Very cool. Love this film. Looks like the castle 'may' have been built on the persons property, visible on the left of the quarry where you stood, just back beyond the white outbuilding, which could be the same structure seen in your screenshot at 7:29 . but does allude to it being next to property at least. Which makes sense for the crew, and a bit of privacy away from the road. Nice work.

Those pins on your legs we called "stick tights" when we were kids. The exterior cabin was in a section of woods probably about a mile away from Danny Glover's house/production office. I visited with a friend back in 1987 and got to see the fake trees and a cabin door made out of rubber. Fun times!

I was an extra in Evil Dead. The castle we used was in California. It was also the castle that was used for the movie Willow. We filmed everything at night. I had 2 parts. I was a skeleton running down the hill in battle and their were no more parts for women left so they took me to makeup and put a wig and beard on me and I was one the soldiers in the fight scene at the castle. Just a little history for you.

23:00 Before digital effects blue screens were used for special effects because the base color of film is blue, and they could create a high contrast matte key to print the composite together. Now they use green screen because green is the strongest channel in video cameras. Although with digital effects now you can use any color to create the matte key effect. The new Dune movie used Sand colored screens so the actors and props wouldn't have green reflections or highlights.

good stuff man, love the BTS stuff
regarding the blue vs. green screen thing - historically its been blue screen for film going back the 70s or earlier and green screen for anything video, since the video color space favors green and is easier to pull a good key (blue screen works on video but I never see it used)
if you need multiple keys at once (live TV, mixed actors/objects) sometimes they use green screen and a blue object (or an orange object)
luma key (light level, not color) can work as well but harder to control

That is freaking amazing! To be in the gym, where they built the set….wow. I remember going with a bunch of guys from high school, to see the movie in the theatre.

Hey Adam the car used in the Evil Dead series, Sam Raimi actually uses it in most of his his movies including Spider-Man, the car uncle Ben drives is that car its also in Darkman and many more! It's a delta 88 and it was Sam's dad's car that he passed onto him and he wanted that exact car in his films he didn't care what the cost was to get it going again!! So he still has it to this day!!

Well, here we go again. You guys are once again in an area I'm very familiar with and have ties to. My Dad was from neighboring Union County and there are numerous relatives from the Paternal side of the Family Shrub living in both Union and Anson counties. P.S.: I should have mentioned that there is/was a loose connection to the famous early PC game "Duke Nukem" when it comes to "Evil Dead". Or so I've heard off and on over the last few decades.
