The fact that Peter Ostrum who played Charlie Bucket never did another movie after Willy Wonka made the movie more enduring and special. Gene Wilder should have been nominated for an Oscar. He stole every scene. This is one of those movies that every child should watch growing up.
There was only one true Willy Wonka and the Choclate Factory. What a treat. Gene Wilder was a humble wonderful man on screen as well as real life. And his singing was simply amazing. Never forgotten. Thank you Grimm 😊
This is probably the most popular version of the story. Gene Wilder gives possibly the best performance of his career. This made my entire weekend so better. Well done. As always Happy Halloween.
As a kid, we always hated the part in the movie when Charlie's Mom sang " Cheer up Charlie" and we used to fast forward the VHS tape. My Grandma would ask us " Why are you doing that? This is a beautiful song and the best part of the movie." Now that I'm an adult, I understand and she was right. It is beautiful and I tend to catch myself singing it all the time.
Wow..I had it on vhs too and would always watch at my Grandma’s house..I would fast forward thru that part too, I just thought it was so long😂, but now that I’m older..it’s one of my favorite parts of the movie..and I’m just 24!
It's an important scene and song because Charlie has to go down the creepy, dark alleyway to sell Dope. Even in 2024 people struggle with minimum wage and can't afford any chocolate at all.
The imbecile that was obviously lying about Charlie selling drugs must be selling drugs itself (notice how he capitalized the word dope. Only a dealer or an addict would even capitalize that word).
Cheer up Charlie is my favorite song from the movie! I saw it when it first came out. The pure love pouring from a mother's heart reminded me of my mom's love for me. Even though I enjoy Pure Imagination more musically and it's soothing lilt, I still tear up, sometimes even BEFORE she starts singing to him.
There’s always a nostalgia go into filming locations that are very important to our childhood that is unbelievable Willie Wonka and the chocolate factory a classic in many peoples eyes
Gene Wilder is a gem an absolute legend! No one else has perfected that role of Willy Wonka and no one ever will. It's like the character just came out natural for him. Appreciate you guys showing us the filming locations that's awesome to take a trip down memory lane and being able to see buildings that are still there always apart of history.
Wow, this brought back so many cherished memories! First time I saw the film was about 1984, putting Charlie Bucket and myself at about the same age. I grew up in a small town so it was easy to relate to Charlie and how big everything must have felt for him when he went to that famous chocolate factory. Thanks you two, this was a good time!
U guys have the greatest job ever!!!😊 What kid wouldn't have wanted to go to Willy Wonkas Chocolate Factory?!?! This movie is another favorite of mine.....so I thank you guys!!! Gene Wilder was AMAZING and will ALWAYS be THE BEST WILLY WONKA!!! 💜
Great video guys ! My mum looked after the actor who played the candy man in hospital many years ago , as a thankyou to all the nurses he signed a few pictures from him in the movie, he signed a picture for me and my brother too , he's passed away now god bless him
My husband and I saw you guys out and about today, but we did not want to bother you. I did want to tell you guys about the time that I saw Gene Wilder, though! I was at the studio taping for the very last episode of his ‘90s sitcom titled “Something Wilder.” The episode was titled “Dr. Roof,” and it may have never aired on TV. The roofer, played by Wallace Shawn, got mixed up with the child psychologist, and vice versa. I can't find the episode anywhere online. Anyway, when Gene walked out onto the stage before the episode started, the audience suddenly got quiet, with the exception of a lot of audience members whispering, “That’s Willy Wonka!” It was magical! Gene was so gracious and so charming, whether or not the cameras were rolling that evening! He bowed to us and blew us kisses, and thanked us all for coming that evening! Thank you for your wonderful video of all of the different filming locations! Now we know that there is a river right in front of the site of the Buckets' house!
You guys go above and beyond for some amazing videos on your journey to record history. Great filming locations to a truly iconic childhood film. Thank you.
This is why older movies are so much better. Today's movies are all filmed with CGI and green screen and that is what makes older movies so much better.
Thank you for bringing a childhood back in the memory of arguably the best children's movie. I saw this in 1971 as a 6 year old boy, and remember walking out of the theatre wishing the movie never ended. Gene Wilder was magical in the movie and I can't imagine anyone as Willy Wonka other than him. I appreciate all the detail you placed on these locations. You did excellent work putting this together...Thank you so much!
I'm a massive fan of the series and you guys doing the locations for these film, was brilliant. This is one of my favourite movies ever. It's a childhood film of mine and I must've seen it about 40 or 50 times and I never get bored, such a timeless masterpiece!❤
Thank you for posting this video, because I loved this movie as a child. Grimmlife you are amazing, because my brother introduced me to all of these movies [Salem's Lot, Willie Wonka, etc.], these are movies you traced the steps of the actors & filming locations. He [my brother] was a horror & sci-fi fan. He's deceased now, and if he was alive; he would have enjoyed your page. I love you & your wife for tracing filming locations. I will DEFINITELY be a Grimmlife fan for LIFE!!!!!
This just was such a treat. Willy Wonka a must for all children...both young and old...Michael..losing your gourd is pretty much a thing when visiting a childhood favorite film. I just ordered the book for my 2 year old granddaughter and 3 year old grandson. This was really one of my favorites you guys did. How wonderful and magical for you both. Enjoy. Wish you love and joy . Thankyou. 🖤🐈⬛🖤🐈⬛
Depp had the impossible task of playing Wonka but having to do something different. It seems like he chose to be closer to the Dahl version in the books. I didn't hate Depp's portrayal, but I didn't like Burton's film.
I disagree here. I'm a huge fan of the original Willy Wonka with Gene Wilder, however Johnny Depp completely butchered the character and his movie was almost unwatchable. I forced my way through it, but it was so terrible.
Depp overplayed the part. He came out looking childish and psychotic. Wilder🤩 was more mysterious but comforting. Depp was volatile and aloof. Wilder🤩 was calm and whimsically mischievous. Wilder🤩 was excellent!! RIP GENE🙏
I got quite emotional watching this. Thank you so much for making this video, you guys are class. I really love the attention to detail in lining up the shots
Tolle Arbeit, Jungs
One of my absolute favorite childhood movies EVER!!! THANK YOU for covering this and bringing us along with you as you visit these filming locations. ❤❤
In 1971 I watched Willy Wonka at the Edward's Cinema in HB CA where I grew up, one screen theater that was huge, and we paid around 50 cents, and could stay and watch as long as we wanted, such a magical movie!
Huntington Beach 👋! NoHo here! Was in high school in '71, and my classmates RAVED about WW and his Chocolate Factory! Had no idea the factory site (and other locations) were filmed in Germany--thought this was a total studio backlot production. WOW! Amazing Grimm Life match-ups, and beguiling autumn scenery! Gorgeous! 😊😊
Watching this at 10pm, Gatlinburg TN...I'm shocked you were able to get that close, considering how ICONIC that location is .. Great, Great Job Grimms🙏😉
Great video Michael and Jessica! I saw this movie in 71 at release, to this day it's still one of the best fantasy movies ever made, and still one that brings back many happy memories. Great work!
Thank you so much for making this video. It gives me so many vivid flashbacks to my childhood. This film is pure magic. I've been to Munich a few times but didn't realise so many iconic scenes were shot there. Thanks for giving me a great reason to return.
In 1987-88 I was 8 or 9 and I got the vhs of this movie and I drove my mom nuts for probably 6 months I watched it everyday. To this day I still have a soft spot for it and no remake or prequel will come close to it Thanks guys for all the great work finding everything that’s left
Thanks so much for this one. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a favorite book of mine as a kid and I LOVED the movie! Friday was my Birthday and a friend made a SICK Willy Wonka cake for me. I have my special edition blu-ray signed by ALL the kids as well as Diana Sowle (Mrs. Bucket). I can't even begin to tell you how sweet she was. We chatted, we hugged, and she signed the blu-ray to me and wrote "Just be glad you're you". I smile EVERY time I admire it in my cabinet. I appreciate you guys, as always. Safe travels.
As a child I remember watching willy wonka every Thanksgiving, I never knew it was filmed in Germany 🇩🇪, interesting…. 🤔….. I was also born in 1970. Love this movie, thank you for this , it brought back so many memories ❤❤️❤️
Wow.. what a beautiful video. I only meant to watch a few minutes, but I could not switch it off.. it’s so so cool to see how that filming location has changed. I love how interspersed with footage from the movie to compare it Then and Now. Loved it so much and it A) makes me want to watch the movie again , and B) makes me want to visit that town where it was filmed!
Hi Michael and Jessica :) , I remember this as a child and my son saw it too. Gene Wilder was the only person for the part of Wonka . He had his own child-like side that made this movie so memorable . Thank you for bringing Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory back to life through your walk of the filming locations and narrative . ps I agree Michael Cheer Up Charlie was almost too sad . Jessica I liked the coat your were wearing in one scene . It looked so soft and comphy warm :) Happy Halloween/Merry Christmas too
Thank you! for taking the time to make this video and show most of the filming locations on the iconic and classic Willy Wonka video that I have watched several times.
I was born in '71. With no vcrs or cable, only 3-channel g-rated tv with plenty of commercials, there were several annual classic movies they'd show on holidays & otherwise & the whole family would watch together, often every year. The 3 big ones i remember were The Sound Of Music, which as a kid i never cared for, but the other 2 were the GOAT, The Wizard Of Oz & Willy Wonka. Haven't seen what you got here yet, but wherever y'all visited i cant imagine actuallybeing there! See ya! 🤘🎅❤️
I’ve watched this movie one time and instantly loved it. Gene Wilder was wonderful as Wonka. Rest In Peace Gene. Great video as always Michael and Jess Happy Halloween 🎃
What an amazing video of the Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory. Thank you so much for sharing Michael and Jessica. I sure loved the movie with Gene Wilder. Love you guys ❤
One of my favorite movies always a joy to watch no ,matter how old I am or what time of year it is. Thank you for sharing your experience many blessings to the both of you and again thank you for sharing.
FANTASTIC JOB, MIKE AND JESS! Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful childhood memory with us! WOW! Absolutely THRILLED for your happiness! Like a kid in a “candy” store!! : ) THIS was a lot of fun.
One of the best original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory movie ever.🍫This bringing me back my childhood memories.🤗💕Thank you Michael🖤 and Jessica💚 for sharing another Grimm adventure. As always Happy Halloween.🎃
Wow. This is so amazing! I can't imagine being right there! Gene Wilder just IS Willy Wonka. He was such an amazing actor. This is one of those movies that when ever it was on....you just had to watch it! Nowadays you can watch it when ever you want. Which in my opinion...takes away from it a bit. Kind of like the old Christmas specials like Rudolph and Frosty. You waited all year for them to be on. And you were glued to the television set the whole time. I even felt a bit sad every year when they were over.
i think this is one of my favourites that you've done..maybe its the location itself, or the incidental music or maybe how thorough you've been..i can't explain it but I'm comforted
Roald Dahl is an absolutely brilliant writer! Never knew this was filmed in Munich. Looks like a nice city. Should check out 'Tales of the Unexpected' 1980's U.K series, which show cases his stories for adults in the first two series. Really quite dark! Great twists!
I lived in Frankfurt Germany from 1991 thru 1994. I was in the U.S. Army. I loved it. I have so many videos and photos. You brought back great memories my friend. Thanks.
Michael and Jessica living a children's dream. The world of candy. Visiting the filming locations for Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory. I remember watching this on tv. As a kid. I still enjoy it now. I still like to sing long with the music. 😮
Great video! I rewatched Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory after watching your video and then re-watched your video and it was even better. Love it! Thank you. 🧡🖤🍫
this was my favorite movie as a kid,so cool to see these locations. I can't imagine all of the research you guys must have done for all of the locations on this trip . thanks so much!!

As a young kid I seen this Movie on TV & when the boat goes trough the tunnel the imagery on the walls was crazy for a kids movie lol yes I did have a few nightmares. 😊 A excellent view on this Classic Movie! Appreciate your amazing content! Cheers! To continued success Mike & Jessica. ❤✌🏼💫

Hate to admit but I didn't appreciate this movie until my 20s. I still have no clue as to why but this movie is a joy to watch and i just adore Gene Wilder,RIP...thank you for this. You get all the nitty gritty of these movies you honor. 🖤
Gene Wilder was born to be Willy Wonka. Absolutely no one could have done it better. That was awesome. Thanks so much.
Like Tim Curry was born to be Franknfurter.
He absolutely was♥️

I appreciate your passion for all this, my friend. I’ve been to Munich and all over Germany. I certainly miss the brilliance of Gene Wilder.
You guys are amazing thanks for sharing.
i think this is one of my favourites that you've done..maybe its the location itself, or the incidental music or maybe how thorough you've been..i can't explain it but I'm comforted
Love it! Thank you. 🧡🖤🍫
