Gene Wilder was born to be Willy Wonka. Absolutely no one could have done it better. That was awesome. Thanks so much.
Like Tim Curry was born to be Franknfurter.
He absolutely was♥️
@@BlackCat-aka-Jewels😊agreed
we need the pompadour back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I 100 percent agree I love him as wonka
This is probably the most popular version of the story. Gene Wilder gives possibly the best performance of his career. This made my entire weekend so better. Well done. As always Happy Halloween.
"Stop. Don't. Come back..."
No it’s not
@@maxmusic5380 Oh? I smell a hot take.
Havent seen the most recent remake. The johnny depp one was good but very dark.
@@Luusika best comment 🤣
As a kid, we always hated the part in the movie when Charlie's Mom sang " Cheer up Charlie" and we used to fast forward the VHS tape. My Grandma would ask us " Why are you doing that? This is a beautiful song and the best part of the movie." Now that I'm an adult, I understand and she was right. It is beautiful and I tend to catch myself singing it all the time.
Wow..I had it on vhs too and would always watch at my Grandma’s house..I would fast forward thru that part too, I just thought it was so long😂, but now that I’m older..it’s one of my favorite parts of the movie..and I’m just 24!
im 56 and i still don"t like that part
It's an important scene and song because Charlie has to go down the creepy, dark alleyway to sell Dope. Even in 2024 people struggle with minimum wage and can't afford any chocolate at all.
Some-people--used-to-just-skip-to-the-part-where-they-enter-the-Chocolate-Factory..loooooool
There was only one true Willy Wonka and the Choclate Factory. What a treat. Gene Wilder was a humble wonderful man on screen as well as real life. And his singing was simply amazing. Never forgotten. Thank you Grimm 😊
Thank you again Michael and Jessica for allowing me to relive my childhood again. One of the most iconic movies ever!
Thanks for looking for my filming locations
All you have to do is WATCH the movie to “relive” your childhood!
This is why older movies are so much better. Today's movies are all filmed with CGI and green screen and that is what makes older movies so much better.
I know some people say it saves time and money but I love older props.
Plus films then weren't woke or trying to get their politics in there.
@@steelstreet3765saves money? The awful star wars prequels were nothing but green screen and they werent cheap
yeah.. that Chocolate Factory they created is still super exciting to me and I first saw the movie over 20 years ago... Nothing beats human imagination coming to life.
Johnny Depp did a good job with his film, but Gene Wilder is always Willy Wonka to me. Thanks for taking us on your visit!
THIS. No shade to Johnny...love him too. But he just can't be Willy Wonka. That belongs to Gene forever. (RIP)
Depp had the impossible task of playing Wonka but having to do something different. It seems like he chose to be closer to the Dahl version in the books. I didn't hate Depp's portrayal, but I didn't like Burton's film.
I disagree here. I'm a huge fan of the original Willy Wonka with Gene Wilder, however Johnny Depp completely butchered the character and his movie was almost unwatchable. I forced my way through it, but it was so terrible.
Depp overplayed the part. He came out looking childish and psychotic. Wilder🤩 was more mysterious but comforting. Depp was volatile and aloof. Wilder🤩 was calm and whimsically mischievous. Wilder🤩 was excellent!! RIP GENE🙏
@@ThumperCROverrated movie/Overplayed character by Depp🤔
Glad you guys did this one. I'm 50 and I can't tell you how many times I've watched this movie. It is literally the only musical I like.
YES!!!!!!!!! My favorite movie growing up. Gene Wilder ❤
The one and only willy wonka
There’s always a nostalgia go into filming locations that are very important to our childhood that is unbelievable Willie Wonka and the chocolate factory a classic in many peoples eyes
Gene Wilder is a gem an absolute legend! No one else has perfected that role of Willy Wonka and no one ever will. It's like the character just came out natural for him. Appreciate you guys showing us the filming locations that's awesome to take a trip down memory lane and being able to see buildings that are still there always apart of history.
I'm absolutely blown away by this video! I can only imagine the feeling of actually being there. Wow
It was very very surreal.
you two are the Everlasting Gobstoppers of youtube...the goodness never runs out.
That was so good, well done guys. I met Peter Ostrum's father by sheer chance in NYC in 2006. A lovely man.
In 1987-88 I was 8 or 9 and I got the vhs of this movie and I drove my mom nuts for probably 6 months I watched it everyday. To this day I still have a soft spot for it and no remake or prequel will come close to it
Thanks guys for all the great work finding everything that’s left
This was so "sweet" of you to look so hard for these locations. This was my all time favorite of Gene Wilder. Thank you both!!
I highly recommend and also love The Frisco Kid.
U guys have the greatest job ever!!!😊
What kid wouldn't have wanted to go to Willy Wonkas Chocolate Factory?!?! This movie is another favorite of mine.....so I thank you guys!!! Gene Wilder was AMAZING and will ALWAYS be THE BEST WILLY WONKA!!!
💜
The best Willy Wonka movie version ever made. Absolutely incredible that the buildings are still there. Thanks so much for sharing ❤
I give Gene lots of credit for that summersault. I’m 33, and i’d honestly be afraid i’d snap my neck on the roll 😂😂 haha.
I love the song "pure imagination". It often just pops into my head
Seeing this makes me feel like a kid again, thank you!
You guys go above and beyond for some amazing videos on your journey to record history. Great filming locations to a truly iconic childhood film. Thank you.
In 1971 I watched Willy Wonka at the Edward's Cinema in HB CA where I grew up, one screen theater that was huge, and we paid around 50 cents, and could stay and watch as long as we wanted, such a magical movie!
Huntington Beach 👋! NoHo here! Was in high school in '71, and my classmates RAVED about WW and his Chocolate Factory! Had no idea the factory site (and other locations) were filmed in Germany--thought this was a total studio backlot production. WOW! Amazing Grimm Life match-ups, and beguiling autumn scenery! Gorgeous! 😊😊
Great video guys ! My mum looked after the actor who played the candy man in hospital many years ago , as a thankyou to all the nurses he signed a few pictures from him in the movie, he signed a picture for me and my brother too , he's passed away now god bless him
I'm 54 and this is my most favourite childhood film ,it brings back really good memories thank you .
Classic adventure. I was born in 71 I seen, Willy Wonka in 76… Rip, Gene Wilder.
The so-called factory where Willy Wonka was made was exactly the opposite of a place rich in candy and chocolate. It was a gas plant that was dirty and smelled of ammonia and sulfur. It was a terrifying place. From the end of the 1970s to the beginning of the 1990s, the site was torn down and rebuilt. Now it looks really nice and peaceful.
My sister love Gene Wilder . Willy Wonka was her favorite movie❤❤
I was born in '71. With no vcrs or cable, only 3-channel g-rated tv with plenty of commercials, there were several annual classic movies they'd show on holidays & otherwise & the whole family would watch together, often every year. The 3 big ones i remember were The Sound Of Music, which as a kid i never cared for, but the other 2 were the GOAT, The Wizard Of Oz & Willy Wonka. Haven't seen what you got here yet, but wherever y'all visited i cant imagine actuallybeing there!
See ya!
🤘🎅❤️
Yep!
Had a friend from Germany visit, made him watch it. He wasn't excited until he recognized Munich, where he had lived for a short time!😅
I didn’t know there were people who liked Cheer Up Charlie.
😁me and an old workmate used to sing that to each other behind the back of our constantly bad tempered manager😁
As a child I remember watching willy wonka every Thanksgiving, I never knew it was filmed in Germany 🇩🇪, interesting…. 🤔….. I was also born in 1970. Love this movie, thank you for this , it brought back so many memories ❤❤️❤️
Possibly the best kids movie ever made by any standard, I watched this in school on days the teacher had to not attend class, so iconic.
Hate to admit but I didn't appreciate this movie until my 20s. I still have no clue as to why but this movie is a joy to watch and i just adore Gene Wilder,RIP...thank you for this. You get all the nitty gritty of these movies you honor. 🖤
I love Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka. He is sort of kind and psychopath. He will always be my Willy Wonka.
Psychopath?😂
More like a Great Actor & Person.
@@Sammy-mp9xn Willy Wonka not Gene Wilder, who was a great actor and person...
@@slytheringingerwitch oh ok🤣
The fact that Peter Ostrum who played Charlie Bucket never did another movie after Willy Wonka made the movie more enduring and special. Gene Wilder should have been nominated for an Oscar. He stole every scene. This is one of those movies that every child should watch growing up.
I'm a massive fan of the series and you guys doing the locations for these film, was brilliant. This is one of my favourite movies ever. It's a childhood film of mine and I must've seen it about 40 or 50 times and I never get bored, such a timeless masterpiece!❤
Great work! This movie was such a big part of our childhood. Brings back a lot of good memories. Thank you for sharing this.
Awesome movie! Thank you both for sharing such an awesome piece of childhood memories.
This was great! I'm almost 50 and grew up watching this film. So many great childhood memories.❤
Thank you so much for this very interesting field trip. Gene Wilder was perfection in this role, one of my favorite childhood movies.
Always a family favourite growing up in our house. Amazing film , infact it's a film you appreciate more as you get older.
One of my absolute favorite childhood movies EVER!!! THANK YOU for covering this and bringing us along with you as you visit these filming locations. ❤❤
This just was such a treat. Willy Wonka a must for all children...both young and old...Michael..losing your gourd is pretty much a thing when visiting a childhood favorite film.
I just ordered the book for my 2 year old granddaughter and 3 year old grandson.
This was really one of my favorites you guys did.
How wonderful and magical for you both. Enjoy. Wish you love and joy . Thankyou.
🖤🐈⬛🖤🐈⬛
I’m 53. I’d still do the somersault if I was there. I’d just need the cane after 😂. Thanks for a wonderful trip down memory lane.
Thank you for bringing a childhood back in the memory of arguably the best children's movie. I saw this in 1971 as a 6 year old boy, and remember walking out of the theatre wishing the movie never ended. Gene Wilder was magical in the movie and I can't imagine anyone as Willy Wonka other than him. I appreciate all the detail you placed on these locations. You did excellent work putting this together...Thank you so much!
The gate to the Wonka factory, Thank you for doing this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Roald Dahl is an absolutely brilliant writer! Never knew this was filmed in Munich. Looks like a nice city. Should check out 'Tales of the Unexpected' 1980's U.K series, which show cases his stories for adults in the first two series. Really quite dark! Great twists!
Thank you for posting this video, because I loved this movie as a child. Grimmlife you are amazing, because my brother introduced me to all of these movies [Salem's Lot, Willie Wonka, etc.], these are movies you traced the steps of the actors & filming locations. He [my brother] was a horror & sci-fi fan. He's deceased now, and if he was alive; he would have enjoyed your page. I love you & your wife for tracing filming locations. I will DEFINITELY be a Grimmlife fan for LIFE!!!!!
Happy to see your happy reply from America 🇺🇸 to England 🇬🇧 that's a happy message from you always
I wasn’t born until December 31st, 1995 but I grew up watching this and it was always one of my favorites! That sad scene I was always not loving because then I’d be so sad. But I can’t believe how much the locations actually matched up after all this time it’s crazy but beautiful! Next you would have to find the locations of Johnny Depps Wonka! Tim Burtons version was amazing as well, we had some pretty good Willy Wonkas! Kind of looking forward to Wonka and seeing how different it is ❤
I loved this movie as a kid. Thanks for the deep dive into the scenes.
I watched Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory before and I loved it
One of the best original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory movie ever.🍫This bringing me back my childhood memories.🤗💕Thank you Michael🖤 and Jessica💚 for sharing another Grimm adventure. As always Happy Halloween.🎃
May willy Wonka aka gene wilder rest in peace a true icon passed away in 2016
This makes me smile - not only to see Germany again (though, I grew up in the former (and now demolished) American Army base known as Roman Landing in Bützbach, Germany) but also to see what is presently left standing in one of my favourite musical movies, “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.” I actually like the “Cheer up Charlie” song - I once sang a cover of it, albeit it’s not as well sung as the original. Oh well, C’est La vie- to each their own. Thank you for sharing those filming locations. The final question is - while there, did both of you get to try some German chocolate?
Amazing video, thank you!!
In 1968, my dad was in the army and we lived in Germany. Brings back memories and 50 + years don't seem that long ago.
Hi Michael and Jessica :) , I remember this as a child and my son saw it too. Gene Wilder was the only person for the part of Wonka . He had his own child-like side that made this movie so memorable . Thank you for bringing Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory back to life through your walk of the filming locations and narrative . ps I agree Michael Cheer Up Charlie was almost too sad . Jessica I liked the coat your were wearing in one scene . It looked so soft and comphy warm :) Happy Halloween/Merry Christmas too
This video was great! Thanks for sharing. This version of the movie is the ONLY version that needs to exist. It was/is perfect!
This and Blazing Saddles were Gene Wilder's best roles.
Its like watching the behind scenes of Star Wars pure magic !!!!!
As a young kid I seen this Movie on TV & when the boat goes trough the tunnel the imagery on the walls was crazy for a kids movie lol yes I did have a few nightmares. 😊 A excellent view on this Classic Movie! Appreciate your amazing content! Cheers! To continued success Mike & Jessica. ❤✌🏼💫
I was 6 yrs old in 1971. This movie was my generations Harry Potter. 1971 was groovy. No seat belt VW Beatles with 8 track Sterio listening to the Beach Boys, the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin. Great time to be alive.
My mom was 9. But she never heard her talk about nostalgic things from this era...
That somersault was unexpected and priceless. I'll always remember it.
I like how baby Ghoul stoops down to the height of a little girl!! Prescious!!
Gene Wilder will always be Willy Wonka in our hearts ❤️
Thank you Michael and Jessica for another amazing video. My wife and I just finished watching. Willy Wonka is one of our very favorites 😊
Love Johnny deep but gene wilder will always be Willy wonka. That is 1 movie that can never be remade , best movie ever
OMG I KNEW IT! I guessed it and wasn’t sure but I got it! I am so stupidly excited every time you guys are live and every new video you guys come out with! Oh this is perfect! Can’t believe you guys got to see this!!!!❤

Michael and Jessica living a children's dream. The world of candy. Visiting the filming locations for Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory. I remember watching this on tv. As a kid. I still enjoy it now. I still like to sing long with the music. 😮
Watching this at 10pm, Gatlinburg TN...I'm shocked you were able to get that close, considering how ICONIC that location is .. Great, Great Job Grimms🙏😉
I absolutely love this movie. I made it tradition to watch it every Easter & Christmas. Thanks, for showing this location. Love to you both💙☮️✌️
This is SO SPECIAL you guys! The nostalgia is REAL. This has always been one of my favorite childhood movies! 🍿❤ 🍫 Thank youuu 🙏
One of my favorite movies always a joy to watch no ,matter how old I am or what time of year it is. Thank you for sharing your experience many blessings to the both of you and again thank you for sharing.
This was the very first movie I ever got to see in a movie theater. I was 9 years old. And I still remember where I sat while eating my milk duds candy ❤
Where is this film at. Love this move my all time classic. No matter how many they times do remakes of this nothing replaces the Gene one. Watch all time. when I can. You did a great job filming locations and the intro was great. RIP Gene Wilder
A wicked look at the location guys. I've got the new Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory steelbook coming tomorrow with the original artwork. I can't wait to experience watching this film in 4K!
Saw this movie so many times.. and every time it feels new. Maybe top 3 all time favorite kids movie of all time.
A hundred years from now kids of all ages will still enjoy it. I’m sure of it
For me, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is right up there with the Wizard of Oz and the original Pippy Longstocking movies. The only movies that captured the magic in my young child heart.
FANTASTIC JOB, MIKE AND JESS! Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful childhood memory with us! WOW! Absolutely THRILLED for your happiness! Like a kid in a “candy” store!! : )
THIS was a lot of fun.
Great video Michael and Jessica! I saw this movie in 71 at release, to this day it's still one of the best fantasy movies ever made, and still one that brings back many happy memories. Great work!
We’re all just big kids at heart 💜, aren’t we ?
What i love about your content is it doesn't feel like "content". You're just two people doing cool shit and going places the rest of us don't have time to. We get to experience stuff like this through you, and its clear you couldn't give a f*** if it was on youtube or not, you're just doing it for yourselves and we get to come along.
You guys never fail to make me smile ...what a great journey you take us on.
My favourite childhood movie. Thank you both. ❤
gene wilder may he rest in peace was such an unique actor. the factory still looks the same as it was in the early 70s. great made video folks 👌 👍
You know what would have been a great addition to this video if you were able to get Charlie Bucket himself to show you the actual filming locations himself!
One of my favorite childhood movies! ❤
THis is phenomenal work by the two of you as always. Great detail with catching how the drains lined up along the store fronts.
Hands down my favourite movie of all time... Nothing better than holiday time Willy Wonka would be played.. just such a wholesome film and all of the characters were so well played.
Gene Wilder always going to be the best Wonka that ever lived
I’ve watched this movie one time and instantly loved it. Gene Wilder was wonderful as Wonka. Rest In Peace Gene. Great video as always Michael and Jess
