You gotta tell my company about inflation we're trying to feed a family of 5 and I haven't had an adjustment in years. Lol. The writing is on the wall, time to move on.
Damn! 56 yrs old and been in this business since 1986. Couldn't have said the words any better!! Made magazine covers and top awards at big shows, won f100 supernationals in 2000. I love doing the work, but the lack of customers understanding has me on burn out! Great video. I know your speaking the truth!
Perfection has become the norm when it very often doesn't need to be. Most people can afford a nice recreational automobile. However, you have to manage expectations.
Agreed. This is just about levels. If I take my car for a build to KC, I expect to win almost every car show that I attend, national level shows. To my fellow car guys who aren't wealthy, do as much wrenching as you can.
My birthday is at the end of September and I will be Driving through Burleson to Ft. Worth. Could I get a quick ride along in the blue 49’ f1 or Frankenstein!?
KC, your customers are paying for you & your team”s experience, expertise, knowledge, & high level craftsmanship. Get paid for your skills. Nobody works for free, not even those other shops that are happy doing bad work.

YOU MADE SUCH A NICE SHOP, TOP NOTCH! GREAT WORK! GREAT SHOW!
9:25 same. I'm 56 and been doing paint and body my whole life. Been around the body shop since I was five years old. Labor is high working cars. People want there cars to look pretty but don't wanna pay it.
Obviously, pertectionism and obsessive attention to detail is why you are "here". But how to inform clients of that obsession with quality. Do you have "A B C" photos to show the available options? "Here's a booger job, here's a half assed job, now, here's what we do" kind of thing? Or maybe someone wants to pay less for a half assed job? Who knows? Good enough might be good enough. They are canvases. You can scrape them off and do a better job "someday", right? As long as the customer is happy and you get paid for your work. p.s. I am also currently sporting a mullet. And a ZZ Top/David Letterman beard. So, Rock On...
i have my own side gig body and painting my my names on it and i looks factory plus but at the end bill time i feel guilty and knock a couple bucks off materials are the killer
"I can't even buy the materials to do these cars for $15,000 no more" 😲😲😲 Geesh. Does the shop have different levels of paint work? Meaning will they ever do..."scuff and shoot"? Or is everything frame off, every disassembled, everything sanded and painted?
Every shop’s reputation hinges on the work that rolls out of the shop. As 80%+ of a paint job is dependent upon the body work underneath, would they be willing to put their name on paint job over someone else’s work?

I wish they would do an episode type build. Show a build from start to finish. I bet his subscriptions would blow up.
Keep up the great work

I would almost guarantee they would not entertain a scuff and shoot. He would send you down the road.
So true about the costs! It just keeps going up.
Top notch, keep diggin' 👍
I do collision repair. I cant imagine restoring and building cars for customers. The only way i could do this work is building them to sell.

Don't feel guilty. You doing detail work that most people don't understand. Plus ad hoc engineering and troubleshooting.

I feel bad for what it costs anymore but as you said you are just buying my time. Mechanic shops are 180 200 here.
You work , you charge. people need to appreciate your experience and level of talent that they get when they bring a vehicle to you.

Nice to see people recognize the time and cost and the reality of doing this type of work "today". Thank you from the industry!!!!
Having paid for several quality restorations, I know all too well how many hours it takes. 🙂
Love the procedure you go through. I’m taking notes
is prep as involved in a satin finish vs other finishes , like the paint on your '41?
Great education. Can you go to Washington and teach our congressman this? Please!!!!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

You rock KC !
thank a democrat for our inflation yeah I said it. TRUNP 2024
crickets hahah. nobody has the balls to say it so i will
So true. That’s why I took a community college course on welding and body work. It’s paid off and now I only send out my cars for paint.
