As a player who played it a lot in the first season and hit max diamond rank in the leaderboard, this season is trash it’s exactly the same as the first season but reskinned. They just took out the old shark and put a ‘new’ one in. The new bosses don’t add anything interesting into the game, and they were removed after week 1 to be put back in the game later, and the worst part is that they are time limiting the updates so that we have to wait 7 weeks or so for all the content of the season to drop. Inventory and ship management is now a joke as you have to craft like 30 ships to do your pieces of 8 runs and you have furniture and cannons everywhere. They also made the game extremely unbalanced as you can now upgrade your ships to different levels affecting hull health so now there is no such thing as an equal and fair PVP fight. They also removed having to sail to get your pieces of 8 so now I have no reason to play at all other than logging in every other day for 30 seconds to fund the manufactories. Items were duped and sold so now every player who played in season 1 is a millionaire and the game economy is broken from the start. I’ve also been kicked off the servers 3 times due to Kingfishererror04. I’m already in the top players on the leaderboard for this new season and I’m not even trying, there must be barely any players for this game. They also added in skins to the store which are cooler than anything you can unlock by doing the hardest endgame fights so I have no reason to want to play it. I haven’t even mentioned yet the bug where people lost their entire ships when upgrading them.
I wonder how long Ubisoft can go on like this before they get into serious trouble. Imagine if the next ACs were financial flops. - What other big brands does Ubi have to keep their business going?
It's worrying to people who like Anno games at least. They bought the studio behind Anno around when they made 2070 I think. So what happens when they're gone? There was already a big outcry when they made 2070 an online required game, and then had issues with the servers. Only to then eventually say they were shutting it down and then you'd be screwed because part of the game mechanics only worked with a server connection. Then they backflipped, patched it, and I think it's not an issue now. I don't know if they offered to keep servers or just made it not need them, but that's Ubisoft for you... they hate the idea of anyone playing a game without it constantly checking to make sure you are allowed to play it in their eyes.
This week has free game trial. Have played all night for 8 hours. Start is sluggish, sure, but once I got my first pirate ship and got a bit used to the UI, inventory and other systems, I was having a blast all night. Game runs smoothly, the atmosphere is amazing. Sure wish we could walk on our ship or visit cabin though, but honestly this "explore the forest off the ship" kinda thing is not that much missed. I think if you go into this game thinking you want Black Flag v.2 you not gonna get what you want. Go in with open mind and its not that bad. Deffo gonna grind hard this free week, hope it stays this fun =)
@@TheVillainInGlasses But the game itself is almost exactly the same, so what specifically is wrong with the game? The existence of a cash shop that sells ugly skins?

man, I was really looking forward to this game all the way up until lunch. I didn't end up getting it, but I still love the art. I just happily received the artbook in the mail this morning. 🏴☠️
Luke I agree we need an authentic pirate game, that life is so fascinating, the ships are incredible, and learning about stuff like pirate insurance was really interesting to learn about. Did you know if you were injured on a pirate ship you could recieve the maximum of $1 to use for a peg leg or an eye patch, or a false hand.
YES PLEASE! Please more pirate games. I have been getting by with To Each His Own and City of Abandoned Ships for far too long. I would love if ANY studio made an open world, story driven pirate game. Just give me all the detail, all the grit, cool stories. GIVE IT TO ME, I WILL PAY FULL PRICE AT LAUNCH FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER. LET US LIVE OUR PIRATE FANTASIESSSS
People did ask for this game, the dev(probably the suits) just 5% gave us the game we wanted, no one ask for ships with stam bar, resource collection, asked for ship and person combat, explanation sea and land,
Sid Meier's Pirates was such a simple yet deep Pirate RPG franchise that STILL 20 YEARS LATER hasn't had a worthy spiritual-successor. Someone get on it, I'm tired of waiting and being disappointed.
You do bring up a good point; I think that's why speedrunning isn't that big of a hobby or some speedrunning games are super niche because the grind isn't fun usually while others I have over 250 hours clocked in because of how fun it is.
If they added more people stuff. Ship boarding, island exploration and so on then it would probably be huge. Like next year drop a massive update all in 1 to revive the game
If you read the current feedbacks from players who play the game, no one talks about the features you mention. All the players who have asked for this kind of feature have stopped playing and thus put pressure on the devs.
did i pass out or did the "big patch" never actually get discussed? not sure how skull and bones is really doing just logged in for the first time in 6 weeks. im 3800 on the weekly leaderboard.
The average play time for Skull and Bones isn't 4 hours because the game is engaging, it's because it takes forever to sail around and grind out literally anything in this game.
Luke what are you talking about? with the save file issue? It's an online live service game all progress is saved server side. You know this stuff. The save file error was obviously just an oversite of the small file that is stored locally when connecting through the new client. No one had to get a save file recovery from Ubisoft. Also I noticed you just floated around in a small ship in your footage, did you actually look at the major system changes they introduced in the game with this update? Ship upgrades.... Fleet management, Races? Doesn't sound like it mate. Also talking to players in my audience returning to the game after they finished season 1 they are saying it feels like a very different game since in launched. So I'm not sure what mean in your thumbnail when you say "It's more of the same"
I wouldn’t want a pirate game if I hadn’t played AC Blackflag. But after I played that game I definitely wanted more! So I obviously bought AC Rogue and loved it as well! When Skull and bones was announced I couldn’t wait! A pirate game from the studios that made an amazing pirate game without it really being one. I ended up not even buying skull and bones. I couldn’t and still can’t understand what they were thinking… I hate online service even though I love the concept. As far as I’ve played online service just means: “Here is our crappie mess but don’t worry it will get good!” “Well, we couldn’t possibly have calculated the bug-fixes we had to do… But it will get better later!/But we’ll fix the bugs later!” “I guess nobody likes this genre?” Had they given us a real pirate AC-ish game people would’ve loved it! I remember coming on the job (bartender) and someone whistling what shall we do with the drunken sailor from the kitchen… But they gave us something that makes me fear for the future of pirate games. Sigh… There was so much opportunity… If you’re gonna do online then Imagine being able to be part of the navy. Able to choose British, Dutch, Spanish etc. Hunt down other players/pirates. Defending other transports ships with tons of gold. Have different fighting styles to choose from bulky to nimble to Sparrow like. And of course add all black flag features. One of the most mind blowing features of Blackflag was the actual on board fighting to take the ship! The swashbuckling those things make the game. Maybe some day… maybe in a different dimension I don’t know…
Age of Sail/Pirate Republic games are few and far between. I am PC only games, so I have some options on Steam. I have about 5 games for that Genre on my Steam Wishlist. Right now, the two I play are Blood and Gold: Caribbean! (a fun Mount and Blade Warband mod), or Naval Action. Naval Action is a fun game, but sinking a ship can take 10 minutes, and there is no fast travel, so sailing across the map is time consuming. The Naval Action devs have a new Early Access coming out soon called Sea of Legends that takes Naval Action as an offline/RPG game. We will see if any of the 5 wishlist pirate games actually launch. The one with the best chance is Sea of Legends, since most of the development is ported from Naval Action.
@@azzy9293 Exactly what I was saying. There's a lot of demands for a pirate game, and when this game was first announced, everybody was hyped. It just turned out to be bad, but there's demands for this kind of games
There are so little pirate games. I think my favorite pirate-themed game is Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire, where you can become a pirate if you want.
Good to know that Ubisoft is still having issues with saving people's games. I stopped playing Ghost Recon Wildlands because I played for 6 hours and it saved NONE of my progress and it had been a known issues for years that never got fixed.

I’m not sure we have to imagine it
It's worrying to people who like Anno games at least.
Ubisoft already did GTA where you can't get out of the car: Driver San Francisco
An actual boarding a ship with your avatar and be able to fight on the ship side by side with other players
Absolutely agree.
"A GTA, but you can't leave your car"
Driver San Francisco:
I want EVE online with pirates.
Where it takes several real world days to sail from one end of the world to the other.
You got a lot of free time 😂
EVE Online Pirates would be great. I miss when EVE Online was good. 🥲
@@TheVillainInGlasses Whats bad about it now?
@@KakavashaForever All the macro transactions. It's gone to shit since the Koreans bought CCP.
@@TheVillainInGlasses But the game itself is almost exactly the same, so what specifically is wrong with the game? The existence of a cash shop that sells ugly skins?
Luke Stephens, This is fantastic! I subscribed because I love it!
Ship has stamina and sails like a bistro. 100% history legit.
The comedic timing of my TH-cam assigned ad break being for Skull and Bones is not lost on me. They must be more desperate for a player base than I thought.
You know what Ive always wanted, an actual Viking game. We have had several great pirate games over the many years of gaming yet Vikings have only gotten indie dev games, AC Valhalla and For Honor.
Gotta hand it to Ubislop for going for historical accuracy 😂
They never went for historical accuracy
@@ehenningsenthey did
@crazygamingyt7245 no, they went for inspiration by history - not historical accuracy
@@crazygamingyt7245 what part of pirates with torpedoes, poison damage and stamina bars is historically accurate
@@ehenningsen I guess sarcasm is lost in 2024
what was the previous record this "new" record is based on?
why does your ship get some much air, it could count as a Tony Hawk's Pro Skater trick?
How about a civil war game with the steel steam ships
man, I was really looking forward to this game all the way up until lunch.
Waited for a sale, $29.99 at target currently as of July 2024.
I’m interested, worried about the live service side of it.
So random question what type of gaming mouse is that like model, etc the white one been looking can't find it !
0:18 Hold on now. People definitely want a pirate game. They just want a GOOD pirate game
Sid Meier's Pirates remains undefeated.
pirates legend of black kat is another old pirate game that’s so old school
Skull and Boners
People did ask for this game, the dev(probably the suits) just 5% gave us the game we wanted, no one ask for ships with stam bar, resource collection, asked for ship and person combat, explanation sea and land,
GTA without leaving a car is called Driver😂
Sid Meier's Pirates was such a simple yet deep Pirate RPG franchise that STILL 20 YEARS LATER hasn't had a worthy spiritual-successor.
Someone get on it, I'm tired of waiting and being disappointed.
Literally forgot this game existed until this video popped up on my feed.
Egyptian theme pirate ship, and we got Luke to heaven
You do bring up a good point; I think that's why speedrunning isn't that big of a hobby or some speedrunning games are super niche because the grind isn't fun usually while others I have over 250 hours clocked in because of how fun it is.
If they added more people stuff. Ship boarding, island exploration and so on then it would probably be huge. Like next year drop a massive update all in 1 to revive the game
Or you could just not buy this game and instead play Sea of Thieves which already had that at launch
Yea but thats first person trash we dont want that either. @MLGames99
@@Iluvjudahmoscato oh ok
If you read the current feedbacks from players who play the game, no one talks about the features you mention. All the players who have asked for this kind of feature have stopped playing and thus put pressure on the devs.
did i pass out or did the "big patch" never actually get discussed? not sure how skull and bones is really doing just logged in for the first time in 6 weeks. im 3800 on the weekly leaderboard.
You know, if this was a rowboat I would excuse the stamina mechanic. But on a sailship? What the fuck
Forget everything you know about pirate games
18:16 “from the time who made skull and bones” bro, I have something to tell you 💀
Brother. We make our own food. This is the way.
Add the Justice League and the Suicide Squad as pirates! This way we can finally give Aquaman the respect he deserves!!
Skull and Bones is a very fitting name.
The average play time for Skull and Bones isn't 4 hours because the game is engaging, it's because it takes forever to sail around and grind out literally anything in this game.
There are games that I look forward to, watch videos about, listen to podcasts and then only play for a few minutes before uninstalling...
16:00 GTA but you can't leave your car. NFS underground? That was a fair amount of fun, if you like rubberbanding of course.
So I'm not sure what mean in your thumbnail when you say "It's more of the same"
Man, the ship segment of Valhalla looks pretty good. That's all this should have been and then we could ignore both at the same time.
They are already STOPPING weekly updates 😂😂
I wouldn’t want a pirate game if I hadn’t played AC Blackflag. But after I played that game I definitely wanted more! So I obviously bought AC Rogue and loved it as well! When Skull and bones was announced I couldn’t wait! A pirate game from the studios that made an amazing pirate game without it really being one. I ended up not even buying skull and bones. I couldn’t and still can’t understand what they were thinking… I hate online service even though I love the concept. As far as I’ve played online service just means:
“Here is our crappie mess but don’t worry it will get good!”
“Well, we couldn’t possibly have calculated the bug-fixes we had to do… But it will get better later!/But we’ll fix the bugs later!”
“I guess nobody likes this genre?”
Had they given us a real pirate AC-ish game people would’ve loved it! I remember coming on the job (bartender) and someone whistling what shall we do with the drunken sailor from the kitchen… But they gave us something that makes me fear for the future of pirate games. Sigh… There was so much opportunity…
If you’re gonna do online then Imagine being able to be part of the navy.
The one with the best chance is Sea of Legends, since most of the development is ported from Naval Action.
it also limited the saling it self, by limiting the windfaktor. the game always has good wind
“A game no one asked for”??
Literally everyone is asking for a pirate game.. just not this
Pirates are a genre bro, it's not specific to this game. Just because people wanted a pirate game doesn't mean they wanted this game
Ah yes, quadruple A game that is worse than macromedia flash games.
Why do u have a scooner at level 2? Where's ur endgame ship?
Ah how I hate it when my ship gets poisoned
When a game is marked half off within a few months of release it know it's in a rough state
Biggest booty in Skull and Bones is the drama farming for youtubers :D
Guys, this is a quadruple A game if I’ve ever seen one
Good to know that Ubisoft is still having issues with saving people's games. I stopped playing Ghost Recon Wildlands because I played for 6 hours and it saved NONE of my progress and it had been a known issues for years that never got fixed.
Imagine puttin 8 hrs into this.
I hope pirate games gain so much popularity that developers compete with each to release better and better pirate games.
