He should really try to make it clear he's talking about a NA build and overall NA builds are a lot harder to get lots of power for than forced induction. Cause if we're honest you can make a k series build far more powerful with forced induction for a metric ton less money.
@Duncan Macleod Shit yeah or buy a used one off craigslist or something. That's what I did. I'm looking at 5k with building a turbo d16y8 2000 civic coupe with a clean title. If I would've sold the d16 and bought a k20 with trans used for like 700 on ebay or something I'd be in it for even less. Now the motor would be all stock except for fuel mods but the k20 is extremely well built to handle boost with an all stock motor. Plus I'm not talking about 5k with the car and building the motor I'm talking rebuilding the suspension doing sway bars coilovers the whole 9. The only thing I won't be able to fit in that 5k is the sound system most likely. I'll be doing dynamat new carpet new panels or better panels new paint and headliner etc. I mean it comes down to you doing a ton of the work and skipping the labor costs too. So far the hardest thing for me to source through a junk yard has been the p28 ecu. If I could find that I could save even more over buying a used one off the net already chipped. I will also be tuning it myself using crome and that will be fun in and of itself.
K series motors does well with NA tuning. A basic I/H/E with a dyno tune will run it to 225 easy. And its way more reliable and maintenance free than a turbo.
It wouldnt be a proper Honda type R with forced induction. Just like it wouldnt make sense to force induce a S2000. These machines are meant to be high revving NA machines.
This kind of builds usually stay with the owner for all life, except if you need the money for a house or another thing which is much more important, it just does not make sense for people but... you can choose to buy a new car for a little more or build the current car you have and love and make it "new" like yours... Nice build, when you see the car without opening it it does not seem to have such a high amount of money invested in it, you kept how it looks pretty simple i love it!!!
@@kennethsev7243 yeah but still he had set the limit by using a stock block. Ofc by stroking and boreing he would of made more. But then it wouldnt be stck anymore. Cheapest and best way to make power would be a turbo.
Don't quite understand why would anyone go all motor in a small engine. Turbo is the way to go or swap a yugeee engine. The idea behind swapping engines in cheap civics are adding the "bigger" engines since they come stock 1.6L...
I absolutely agree, but id rather buy an intergra DC2 with the portion of money that was put into the build budget and then work on that car. I still would love to get my hands on an EK or EJ Civic as a project!
QueensVillage Press tbh he’d get at least 11k with the cost that’s gone into it. anyone buying the car would realize how well it’s been built and the insane quality of everything on it. that’s what makes a car worth something.
This is exactly why I stopped tuning Hondas in the early 2000’s. For same amount of investment you can buy a used 2003+ BMW M3 and with a few upgrades be track ready. With that said, you’re final points are the truth of the matter. It’s about the journey. Great video series. Hope to see more! Thanks.
Just like people who question audiophiles that spend thousands on high-end listening gear, when most are happy with the earbuds that came with their phone. Of course they don't need it, but it's what brings them satisfaction and fulfillment. Whether or not something is worth the money is entirely dependent on the person spending it. Jay Leno definitely doesn't need over 200 rare and special cars stored in warehouses with staff dedicated to maintenance, but boy if I had his money I doubt I wouldn't do the same. EDIT: Vastly underestimated how many cars Jay had.
The price for my 700 HP 96 Talon TSI will be about 56 grand, spared no expenses, i'v got a parts list saved on my computer, but 700 HP will be easy mode, the car is overbuilt to handle well over 1000 HP
Building an old dream car to new glory is worth every penny. It's like having your own personal battleship that doubles as an art piece. Even if you only drive it on the weekend, or once a month, being able to look at it chilling in the garage is like looking at some sort of pristine ancient artifact. These old cars hold a certain link to the past and deserve to live on.

Wow this is a very well put together video and I respect you for making it regardless of the pain of knowing the total cost for a class specific car. Also thanks for making me feel better for switching to V8s Instead of sticking to the money pit 4 cylinders
Your Civic is amazing and done the way you wanted! No matter the cost, like you said, cut back on other things to afford the car parts you wanted on your build! Love the videos and content!
Probably just said that so he didn’t have to go into how the JDM accord is the same as the TSX yadda yadda, just say TSX and people understand what it is.
This video makes me reconsider my next car. It's much better buying a car built for what you need it rather than buying one that you have to build yourself. However back in the day building my old dsm thought me so many things that it might have even changed my career and life. What I am saying here is: if you want to build an old toy car do it yourself, don't pay shops to do it. The experience is priceless.
No offense I love the vids and work you put into your fast and pratically new civic but actual labour costs included in your final costs would have been even more relevant.
nope, it won't. He built a track car - not a daily street car. No new Civic would be able to handle the beating his Civic can take. He got himself a very "cheap" track weapon. For comparison - Mazda MX-5 Cup car (factory-built track car) goes for $68k.
@@drivingpsyche Yep sure i get that but he will also use it on the street and enjoy driving it as well. So it's an expensive street and strip car is the assumption. Most people here would wonder on the overall cost including labour to maybe do the same thing to their cars. It's just from a completeness point of view we enquire about the labour costs too imho. Completely enjoyed the video series dont get me wrong.
Even if u happened to be a son of some rich parents, the car we see here is definitely a lot better way to "waste" money than the most of the ways rich kiddos nowadays think of. Ur car creates an impression of something firmly built. It's like the feeling I got from my Nokia e73 in the past. It was a solid piece of metal and durable mattee plastic. All edges smoothed, to press buttons I had to apply some moderate effort. And it was cold when I picked it from my pocket. U got me. The feeling of something well and quality made.

Pretty scary when I update and look at the Excel spreadsheet for my car. It’s an expensive hobby but I’ve learned a lot and it’s a stress reliever for me. I always answer this to myself when I Think about money spent on my car: does the smile on my face cost 26k $ ? No... it's priceless! and this is why I still buy and modify cars, my love for cars is priceless. Enjoy your ride. There is no financial mistake when you do something with your heart.
I m not into drugs or alcohol because of race cars. And I Will always say thx for that!
ps: I love this serie so much! If I had the time and space I Will probably do the same. Next project for sure! Keep up the good work guys!

I’ll be here when you sell it for 10k in a couple years😆 Love the channel!
when he said “think about what you could buy for 26,000” and the first three things that came to mind where cars 😂
So cool that you can be honest about budgeting and show people what it really costs, so many other channels hide all of there money
1 civic for the price of 3. true dedication!
I didn’t think about how you have rich parents I thought why would you spend that much on a civic making 260 wheel.
Cause of that power band doe
I think this video is amazing, and the straight difference between a $24,000 k swap Civic with 260whp and a $3,000 Boosted/Modified 3800 swap Grand Am with the same power. Although the civic is cooler lol
Rarriez YT he could’ve easily made over 800 with that money smh
@@kennethsev7243 thats true but depending on what era u grew up on, EG/EKs are just sentimental. these are the cars that got me to love cars. when I make bank I will for sure have to build up one of these chassis. it's a lot more to tuners than just pure numbers. the culture behind these things. the history. its different strokes for different folks.
Kenneth Sev what the fuck exactly cost him 23k??? He isn’t even hitting 400whp did they buy all Name brand shit lol??????
That exhaust sounds amazing
Alright guys, it's been 3 weeks. Every Saturday morning, I always look forward to watching your videos to start my weekend off right with some good visuals, soothing background music and some hidden gems of ASMR. You guys are ruining my weekends now, and I need my weekly dose!
This is unheard of. Next levels of transparency. Love the channel.
'I always want the best stuff' Shows Konig rims.
Watching your civic build made me fall in Love with my Ek over again even thou its a turbo b series 🙂👍🏾 great job building that amazing machine bro 💯
I will also be tuning it myself using crome and that will be fun in and of itself.
he should make it clear this was a ground up restore with the K swap . click bait .
Apparently everyone missed where he said he built it to the max of the rules in Gridlife "street" - can't do power adders in that class.
Worth every single penny! 👍 awesome build!
This kind of builds usually stay with the owner for all life, except if you need the money for a house or another thing which is much more important, it just does not make sense for people but... you can choose to buy a new car for a little more or build the current car you have and love and make it "new" like yours...
Nice build, when you see the car without opening it it does not seem to have such a high amount of money invested in it, you kept how it looks pretty simple i love it!!!
boosted boiz would have done it for 500 bucks lol
Phong perhaps. The idea behind the build was NA.
Pholiage he still could’ve made more power na
@@kennethsev7243 yeah but still he had set the limit by using a stock block. Ofc by stroking and boreing he would of made more. But then it wouldnt be stck anymore. Cheapest and best way to make power would be a turbo.
Don't quite understand why would anyone go all motor in a small engine. Turbo is the way to go or swap a yugeee engine. The idea behind swapping engines in cheap civics are adding the "bigger" engines since they come stock 1.6L...
@@AtomSimbol Simple. The challenge. Whole point of having different race classes.
Great series this is, can't wait to see it on track
Even if it cost too much, if it puts a smile on your face then the price is irrelevant
I absolutely agree, but id rather buy an intergra DC2 with the portion of money that was put into the build budget and then work on that car. I still would love to get my hands on an EK or EJ Civic as a project!
idk man thats a lot of money
QueensVillage Press tbh he’d get at least 11k with the cost that’s gone into it. anyone buying the car would realize how well it’s been built and the insane quality of everything on it. that’s what makes a car worth something.
This is exactly why I stopped tuning Hondas in the early 2000’s.
For same amount of investment you can buy a used 2003+ BMW M3 and with a few upgrades be track ready. With that said, you’re final points are the truth of the matter. It’s about the journey. Great video series. Hope to see more! Thanks.
Worth it - quality build. Cutting corners will always bite you down the road - all car guys should know this haha.
First Say hi to all the Gears and Gasoline crew if you see this love the camera work
"building k swapped civic in 10 minutes" would be fun
Actually building it in 10 minutes would be even better ...
Non-car guy: “I don’t understand why you spent that much on a car. You might as well buy a new car with that much money!!”
bro, some ppl don't understand that you are turning it into a new car.
@@jonathansorsenginh7248 Until you replace the engine and/or transmission for a newer one, you're not turning it into a new car
Buy a house with that money!
Crazy how you broke it down, when I brake down my current build to people they are amazed of how much money it is, but I tell them that it is still not done. Then I say that I don’t see a price on it since I’m doing for my own hobby and what I enjoy doing! Great content!
Love the build and how you continue to improve your vehicle! Hope one day we bump, once I start getting some seat time maybe we will meet.
Keep it going!
Went and looked for one of those anti gravity batteries for my fiesta my heart sank 659.99 before shipping and the terminal kit

Good content though.
The productions quality of these videos is top-notch. Keep up the good work!
26k aint bad at all for such a clean, professional, all around build car. Im sure its reliable and fun to drive
HOW ABOUT ANDY'S LABOUR FOR THE INSTALL AND TUNING 😂
Priceless...
Andy is really reasonable on rates. The best shop experience I've ever had. 👍
@@Smitholene I'm thinking about doing a k swap myself. You said reasonable, but what is the price range? Like an actual number.
@@3210gatorbite like what Ben said, if you keeping at 200 to 240whp, you can have it done at 10-15k
In reference to your all caps statement or question. He clearly mentions it at.. 07:15 “Im also not including the cost that I paid Andy for the labor work done to this car, because Im assuming that you’re planning on doing this build yourselves”
Saw this car on the parkway and yes Ben was smiling :)

Really nice project! I havve been building my 2017 Honda Fit with so many of the same mods, it's uncanny. I am running Dekagrams on 245s Maxxis 15" in the front and staggered 225 Hypergrams in the rear. Same same! I decided to be different and rebuild the L15B1 from scratch and am shooting for 200 whp. Engine is built and waiting for tuning. I also want to compete in Time Attack and am shooting for the limited class, so I'll be in the back of the pack ;). Cheers and best of luck, d'Art
no one understands the cost and hardwork one puts into modifying their cars.
Most people including TH-camrs just swipe a credit card.
Old comment but I'll say that anyone that's into modifying cars knows the cost of the hobby. This dude just wanted to stunt for no reason. You could have swapped for half the amount this dude paid for his. This guy is the epitome of bought not built.
You should do a how much it actually cost you with the discount from sponsors and how much you made from the youtube ad rev on the build video's.
"I digress"

Wow this is a very well put together video and I respect you for making it regardless of the pain of knowing the total cost for a class specific car. Also thanks for making me feel better for switching to V8s Instead of sticking to the money pit 4 cylinders
This is a masterpiece! 🙌🚗💨✨
worth every penny, car is well built all around and will last you for long time to come reliably! well done
Your Civic is amazing and done the way you wanted! No matter the cost, like you said, cut back on other things to afford the car parts you wanted on your build! Love the videos and content!

I’m not sure why he included the cost of parts that don’t even involve the motor in the first place.
How can it be a JDM k24a if it is from a 2007 TSX? Shouldn't it be from the 2007 Honda Accord type S? That's the JDM.
JDM RHD accuras do exist
Same car different name, same engine. K24A2 is in both 2007 JDM accord and acura TSX
Thus making it non JDM engine, non JDM car.
In japan there is no Acura... all Honda. It’s the same k24
Probably just said that so he didn’t have to go into how the JDM accord is the same as the TSX yadda yadda, just say TSX and people understand what it is.
@@DuBstep115 actually the jdm engines are k24a not k24a2 and theyre equivalent to our 05 spec not 06-08.
Love it man! keep up the good work. Us OG honda guys respect this. :). Building my hatch now.
Easily my favorite TH-cam channel. Excellent video, very entertaining and informative!
Another 10k for 20 hp. What a waste on an n/a car 🤮
Doing it right the first time, priceless.
Was there ever a point where you felt tempted to supercharge or turbocharge for power? I love the Porsche brake calipers by the way!
in another video he says he prefer the linear powerband of the na engine in this chassis..i prefer na also
This video makes me reconsider my next car.
It's ALWAYS nice to get a reality check on builds like these. Lots of money, but money well spent
That it's a dream to every honda fan like me eheh in the end of the day it's no wrong if that makes you happy! :)
Completely enjoyed the video series dont get me wrong.
honestly, doesn’t make me jealous. just gives me an idea how much I’m going to have to sell my kidney for.
tell me when you find a customer. and tell him i ve got mine to spare too. haha
That's why you just buy a car that's already modified. Adds barely any value to the car.
😂😂😂😂
Even if u happened to be a son of some rich parents, the car we see here is definitely a lot better way to "waste" money than the most of the ways rich kiddos nowadays think of.
Ur car creates an impression of something firmly built. It's like the feeling I got from my Nokia e73 in the past. It was a solid piece of metal and durable mattee plastic. All edges smoothed, to press buttons I had to apply some moderate effort. And it was cold when I picked it from my pocket. U got me. The feeling of something well and quality made.
10K is a budget build. 20K for a decent build is about right for a car enthusiast. 30K though, and you see some amazing stuff. Cars are expensive, but we love em and we love seeing people build them. It makes me happy :)
*worth every damn penny*

dedication, well done. that's just not passion, that's love.
Pretty scary when I update and look at the Excel spreadsheet for my car. It’s an expensive hobby but I’ve learned a lot and it’s a stress reliever for me. Better than doing drugs, gambling or drinking. Besides when I’m ready to move on, the car and parts hold residual value. Whereas travelling or sporting has a higher sunk cost. ;P
