    I agree about your wish for ventilated seats and for a spare tire. Vinyl, fake leather or leather seats can leave one with a wet back, especially on a long road trip. I used to remember when velour or cloth seats were a premium option for Cadillacs and Lincoln Continental luxury cars. My grandad’s Lincoln Mark 4 had them in 1971 when most cars came with Naugahyde or nylon covered seats. Those cloth seats came in handy when it was 105 outside with 95% humidity!

  • @xsbykerider

    A video from you on how to manually route plan would be helpful. Thanks for your great content.

  • @kens97sto171
    @kens97sto171 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Great video, you certainly are piling on the miles.
    Ventilating seats would be really nice, the other thing they could do would be to put cloth seats in the car or at least offer it.
    You mentioned how your back can get hot and sticky. That's going to happen on pretty much any leather type surface. You'll find that doesn't happen as badly on cloth seats especially if they're a more open mesh type fabric.
    I wish the IO was a bit more customized... I think you can change the font now but it seems like it should be scalable to any size that you wish. If my smartphone can do that I would think Tesla could do it on their screen too.
    You mentioned the HVAC system coming out of auto when you select a location for the air to come out. My ancient Toyota Prius does this too. The light indicating auto climate control goes out when you move it from vent to foot or when you manually increase the fan speed. However it is still actually attempting to manage the temperature that you set. Maybe the Tesla is doing the same thing.
    By the way I love the color you chose for the paint protection film. Makes the blue really look cool how it transitions into different colors as you move around the car.

    Great video, I appreciate you taking the time to put this together. I watched a couple of your other roadtrip videos with this new Model Y. I'm a little bummed about the current charging curve. My wife has a 2020 Model Y Performance, and the V3 chargers are amazing ripping at 200-250 kw. Has the charge curve gotten better in the short time you've had it? Do we know if Tesla will be tweaking that charge curve. I'd really like to get a Model Y AWD like yours, but the charge curve gives me pause a bit. Thanks Branden!

    • @brandenflasch
      @brandenflasch  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think looking at the curve by itself makes it seem worse than it is in the real world but I’ll be making some dedicated videos about this

  • @pk-76

    Biggest things on my list that are missing: Front bumper camera so 360/parking assist can be better. Ventilated seats (especially the black seats) and an OEM option to have a motorized retractable sun shade for the roof.
    By far, the most fun car I’ve ever driven. That alone helps offset some of the shortcomings.

    These were great lists, Branden. But you missed this since you mostly drive solo. There is no way for the passenger to turn off their air. It's especially dumb since it's off if you have no passenger. And if they press and hold the temperature, it turns both sides off.

    • @brandenflasch
      @brandenflasch  ปีที่แล้ว

      About 4k of the 6k miles have been with at least one passenger and I didn’t get that complaint from any of them (there were a few different people), but that does seem like a strange omission. Should be a lot more flexible since all the HVAC controls are digital

      @@brandenflasch Of course it is personal. However, if you line up similar vehicles in category and price, Tesla is becoming less competitive in many ways. I have an Audi Etron Premier Edition, which has the bells and whistles, build quality but not the range. It is not in the same category obviously. I am looking for my second EV, but I have decided that it will not be a Tesla in any circumstance. I do not like the decisions that they have made regarding what is or is not in the vehicle. Just my $0.02, but I was really surprised by some of the omissions that you mention in the video. Keep up the great work. I really like your videos even if I am not a Tesla fan. Your community appreciates you!

      Audi e-tron, especially in Premier trim, is a great vehicle - unfortunately the limited range would be a bit challenging for my use case, but for many with home charging would be great and is super comfortable! They’ve gotten really cheap on the used market too.

      @@brandenflasch I agree on the range, but the charging is amazing. I need a longer range vehicle for my next purchase. I am in the market, but watching how prices move. I did get mine used with only 4K on the odometer in December 2021, right before the spike in used prices. Now used prices are coming back down to earth. The launch edition had every option, fully loaded Prestige plus some. . In any case, love your work! Thanks!

    Excellent video as always. Curious hypothetical here: If Rivian had the ability to charge on the supercharger network right now (of course that looks to be happening in April of next year) which vehicle would you rather own just to own and drive and without the consideration how a new vehicle typically helps drive your youtube business as hopefully this new vehicle will? I am biased because I own an R1T and my use does not really include much if any road tripping. On top of the fact Rivian continues to update their software and their app so much faster than other vehicles I have seen that it just makes the value aspect so much more compelling than I imagined it would. On top of the fact it is so fun and comfortable to drive. Obviously this new vehicle for you is a much lower price point and great value but just wonder if you had to choose either this one or your blue R1T for overall experience, which one would it be. I will hang up and listen now. Thanks. :)

    • @brandenflasch
      @brandenflasch  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If cost wasn’t a factor and Rivian had Supercharger access today, I’d get an R1S. I’m just not really a truck guy and I think the R1S is just enough smaller than the R1T to feel more nimble. Cost factored in though and I’ll stick with Model Y

    • @StBernardFan
      @StBernardFan ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Was going to ask something similar…. I have a 2018 MX and was thinking about the R1T but with the 4 1/2’ bed it seems like not even a truck. R1S is a better choice. My MX is much more efficient than the R1T or R1S but the max 150kw charging speeds on my car can be a bummer on a road trip. Other than that, I still love my MX and will keep it for as long as I can as it still has radar and ultrasonic sensors as well as stalks for shifting, blinkers, wipers, autopilot etc…. seems more intuitive.

    Big miss on my 2023 Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD (Fremont build, as now in Canad they are from China) is I wish Tesla had a Manual Battery preconditioning option,apparently you can assign it on S3XY buttons or just on their Commander OBD dongle software.
