How do you know they will increase the range by 20% rather than reduce the size (and cost) of the battery while achieving the same range, or perhaps a little more?
That is what I think they may do. For most people the LR Model Y is plenty of range. Maybe they will make an option for the LR where you can get the SLR (Super Long Range) that has another module in the pack for longer range.
I thought about doing that with our 2023 Model Y when our daughter goes off to college in about 5 years. But not sure how convenient that would be for someone living in a dorm. Sorry, but I don't believe announcements of future products from Tesla. First, it has to go into actual mass production. Second, it has to prove that it's viable. I like dreams but I buy products.
If they can get C Truck mass-produced ASAP (I know there are challenges), keep improving what they have, keep being price aggressive compared to others, and if they can come out with the announcement for the Model 2, even if it was for Q1 2025, then watch out!
I'm not holding my breath waiting for the CT to be mass produced. In Musk's own words, "Tesla dug a hole for themselves with the Cyber Truck". Refining their existing range and developing the Model 2 Have to be their priorities, at this stage. The model 2 can't come soon enough. They need an "entry level" small EV To introduce the next generation of EV buyers to the brand or they risk losing them forever.
@@davidbrayshaw3529 Certainly I understand where you are coming from, and I do certainly believe, while the cybertruck is amazing, they absolutely messed up in not considering how hard it will be to mass produce. I 100% agree they need this Model 2 to come out soon with an amazing price tag. That will change the game for EVs here in America massively

Yes, we need more electric vehicles. More rare earth metals mined. More massive batteries with short life spans that can’t be recycled. Electric Viking: if Tesla comes up with a better (+20%) density battery as you claim they UNFORTUNATELY will install a smaller battery with the same amount of Kw and have a lighter, less expensive car to improve margin. I hope to be wrong.
I wonder if the US version will have stalks. If they are gone on the Juniper Y I'm glad I got mine this year. I really like the stalks and the only things that would make me want the new one is if it had a bumper camera and power funk lid. I'm not expecting that since the new Model 3 didn't get those features.
@@tonyn3227 I like the turn indicator stalk. Don't really need the other one. That stalk is right in the same place all the time, it does not move when you are turning. You can catch it with your finger and operate it without having to look and find it. If you try to use the buttons on the steering wheel, while turning they will be all over the place. You will need to look at your steering wheel to locate the buttons even when it is driving straight. There is a reason why other companies, even though they have put hundreds of buttons on the steering wheel, still leave the turn indicator on a stalk.
@@jiminauburn5073Users report no problems. Buttons don't move! Ridge between them locates and you always push the button in the direction the wheel is turning. How hard is that. @@waynerussell6401 The buttons do move when you turn the steering wheel. They are no longer in the same place because the wheel has turned. Tried self driving on my Model Y and it is not anywhere near ready for prime time.
Juniper MY won't have more range. But IF the 20% higher energy density LFP pack IS true, then Tesla will simply switch the MY LR to an LFP pack. A MY SR+ has 253 mi range and 20% on top of that will take it to 303 mi. Add a few more LFP cells to get it to 330 mi and now you have a SUBSTANTIALLY cheaper MY LR. Tesla wants lower cost and higher volume, not more range because Elon believes the extra range is unnecessary and leads to a heavier and thus worse vehicle. You should pay attention to what Elon says when he speaks. Higher energy density packs probably means smaller/lighter/cheaper packs w the same range and not longer range.
@@69memnon69also true. It is a marketplace. So Tesla will increase range as necessary to stay competitive, but I don’t expect them to lead the charge for longer ranges. If Zeeker’s Golden Battery does as Viking says, it could be a real problem for Tesla. I do expect Tesla to get the ‘4C’ LFP batteries within 1-2 years. They keep plugging away at 4680s, but seems like they really aren’t getting there.
so essentially they will be doing the same as the old version - model Y is a bulkier model 3. people are buying the bling, cause the battery is anyone's guess - you cannot choose which battery you want. In my case I found a unicorn - an old RWD model 3 with a 78 kw battery for 40 k. Very happy with it after covering up the hideous wooden panels. did a roadtrip recently and because there are so many teslas on the road couldn't charge more than 70kwh which gave me mucho time to strech my legs, walk the dog and have lunch.
If it's like the TM3 10% improved range, that did not find its way into reality, I would not bet on 20% increase for the TMY, without an increase of battery size.
Not sure if you are making it up or uninformed. Actually it did! They just reviewed the model 3 which claims 330 miles and it got 327 miles and it was still running. So they got basically exactly the claimed range, while the older model 3 got around 270 to 280 max
@@blueplanet1048 I tested it and can tell you that the improvement is about 2 to 4% depending on your driving, my average driving daily my Model Y is 148Wh/km (so I drive smoothly). all new cars do this now as it is mandated by ICE rules. From 2024 all new vehicles needs data recorders besides a few more now mandated features. Though many are already std on higher end vehicles.
My 2019 Model 3 SR+ is going to be 5 years old in October (139,000 kms). Thinking of buying a new Model 3 in early 2025 so i'm betting the 3 will get these batteries by then too
Tesla may not think they need to bother, but I would have thought that a new Model Y with a full wagon style body shape as an alternative option would be a hit.
Seriously?? That will be a dealbreaker for millions of potential purchasers! Sales of the model Y will collapse if they remove the stalks….it’s a STEP TOO FAR for most drivers 😳😳
If we historically had buttons for our turn signals and Tesla wanted to add a stalk, do you think people would say it was too far? I can see why they want to eliminate it. It’s simpler. It’s less of a change than going from a shifter for your gears to a stalk, imo.

Thanks, Sam! I drive a 21 3SR+. I have an order in for CT, about82k in order, but what I really want for my daily driver is an upgraded performance Y with a tow package for a utility trailer or bike rack.
In my dreams there is a redesigned model S super sedan, but it’s just a wish.
How about steer by wire for Juniper?
Nope, nor 48V architecture. Those will wait for completely new designs.
Yeah, I was hoping that would somehow appear in the US version of the Highland, but I just can't see Y or 3 getting those kind of upgrades before they are in the X and S.
@@EdwardsNH It's about how much of an entirely new vehicle they are ready to take on. Going steer by wire means 48V which means entirely new supply chains for plethora of parts and major--like new model ramp instead of a quick ramp like Threefresh.
Likely X will be canceled before that happens, maybe S as well.
X & S needs a totaly new Model. They have the same look as released in 2012.@@Mrbfgray
@@rozonoemi9374 They don't but what's your point? You want the traditional way of senseless aesthetic changes, cheap crap added so the Jones know you have the latest?
Beetle, Porsche 911, some of best ever selling cars for half a century, didn't add fake jet nozzles and tail fins, phony air scoops....pointless dramatic styling ages fast and looks as stupid as it is.
Same today for EVs with big fake grills or most ICE vehicles for that matter. I suppose you think the Threefresh looks the same as the original 3.
That said, while the NSW and Vic rebates are ending in a few days, Tesla may cut prices of the old Model Y, so if you missed out you might be able to pick up a cheaper existing Model Y in H1 2024, before the new one comes out in H2 2024, especially if you don't require that kind of range on a regular basis or are just using it around town.
I doubt it, they don’t seem to have y’s sitting in inventory very long unless it’s the performance variant.
The Model 2 is the most important, and I love the Y.
Thanks so much Sam
You are so welcome!
After moving up the production of Model Y 2024 Juniper by at least six months, a move that was expected, Tesla should give the option to customers to be able to preorder the Juniper, starting NOW. It does not take a lot to do it. The Company did it for the CyberTruck.
I agree.
HAPPY NEW YEAR SAM!
Happy new year!
Tesla denied these rumors on X.
Can’t wait to upgrade from our 2020 Model 3 to this!
Seems like many premium gas cars are overpriced vs new tech EV’s. People talk about expensive EV’s but compared to old school gas vehicles, no comparison.
Horse and buggy still rules.
american and european evs overpriced vs chinese evs
I hope the new Y comes from Germany same time as China and the long range gets an advanced LFP battery.
The interesting thing is if the EU rises import taxes to cars with Chinese batteries. I don't think they are able to manufacture these new batterie in Berlin...
My model y with the 4680 cells is absolutely horrible. I have the lowest charging speed and range. The promise on battery day was just a ploy to create investor and a stock hype
A tip for your video. I request you upload your videos to X when that gets convenient.
Sorry, I’ll take this with a grain of salt Viking, speculation here (and elsewhere..) talked about battery chemistry change in Highland that didn’t happen…
Oh, you just admitted this as I write.
You’re a good man and contributor Viking, hope you’re enjoying my hometown of Newcastle . 👍🏽
Thanks
The most important thing to me is does the new version have an indicator stalk? I know that you Americans don’t need them, but here in the U.K. we have things called roundabouts.
We have roundabouts in the US also.
It's very likely project Juniper will remove the stalks, just like project Highland did.
same, want to buy but only with a stalk
@@S2kDude36 it'll be interesting to see if they are stupid enough to do that again. Rookie move if they do.
It won't have stalks. It's the only current Tesla model that still has them. They'll be gone quicker than a line of Charlie at Daniella Westbrook's birthday party.
I hope they hit 300 miles / 500km comfortably in the base model Y. Fed up with the taunting about range anxiety.
I want this car! I wanted a model Y in 2021 but they were backordered by 12 months back then, so I went and bought a used model S because I could get one cheap. Now that the refresh is coming, I will be first in line to get my preorder-order in!
Great news for my portfolio 💼
Nice and positive re EVs from an Ozzie unlike the MGuy with a Brit fronting an anti EV channel from Australia
Hi Sam, I live in country NSW and want the new Model Y to have the necessary feature of my Subaru Outback SUV: 1. At least 8" of ground clearance, 2. All terrain tyres, 3. Space for a spare wheel in the huge hole in the trunk, 4. Option for cloth upholstery Regards Alfred
No jacuzzi?
Retool now available june? Something doesnt make sense? Do you mean for Australia?
For the shanghai factory. Australia gets our cars from that factory.
@@robingrieves yes I know. Maybe march or April delivery
Thanks for the tip. I am very interested in the Y and was also looking at the Song L. That BYD model isn't planned on coming to Australia but maybe that will change soon.
Exciting times!
Based on dates for highland release -> performance version, i would guess the MY Juniper Performance could come out at around x-mas 2024. That's the one i'm waiting for.
Please keep the stalks Tesla. It's a deal breaker for me.
same
or at least add them as an optional extra. Unsafe without them.
You have some weird license plate on cover page for this juniper announcement🤔. Why?
Sam, thank you soooo much!
I will buy it!!!
I am 100percent getting a model y in 2024
when can it be ordered or pre-ordered?
I hope they update design significant enough.
Didn't you listen to what Sam said? The updates are huge but still retaining the Model Y iconic design.
How do you know they will increase the range by 20% rather than reduce the size (and cost) of the battery while achieving the same range, or perhaps a little more?
Exactly.
That is what I think they may do. For most people the LR Model Y is plenty of range. Maybe they will make an option for the LR where you can get the SLR (Super Long Range) that has another module in the pack for longer range.
@@jiminauburn5073 I’d like to see a performance model with the range of the LR. That would be great.
@@sleeknub Yeah, if they indeed could get away with smaller battery packs, then they could add to it, for the performance and get that 10% back.
Damn, the kids might have to inherit my new RWD M3 sooner than I planned! 😂
W dad
I thought about doing that with our 2023 Model Y when our daughter goes off to college in about 5 years. But not sure how convenient that would be for someone living in a dorm. My cousin sent his kid to college with a new Model 3, and after the first year he traded it in on a GMC 4x4 Pickup. He found it too inconvenient to charge, and wanted to be able to haul stuff easier.
@@jiminauburn5073 For sure...it's not an ideal college car in terms of hauling stuff around...but so far my kid's are thinking to stay close by, so easy enough to swap out for a larger car in the family when needed.
It's going to be a while before CT makes a financial impact.
Yes, those are the goal points to aim for
@@davidbrayshaw3529 Certainly I understand where you are coming from, and I do certainly believe, while the cybertruck is amazing, they absolutely messed up in not considering how hard it will be to mass produce. So that is the ultimate question... How do you meet the crazy demand? You have to figure it out. I think this year will be interesting indeed to see if they can.
I 100% agree they need this Model 2 to come out soon with an amazing price tag. That will change the game for EVs here in America massively
LOL seriously get your head out of the sand, tesla has a serious problem elon is lying to you all, and you just cannot see it, they lost 40% market share and nobody has even come close to competing with a really compelling cheap car , well other than the kia tesla killer.
Tesla will have less than 5% of the marketspace they once enjoyed by 2025.
Yes, we need more electric vehicles. More rare earth metals mined. More massive batteries with short life spans that can’t be recycled. More electric infrastructure that most countries can’t support, let alone the majority of the population (lower income folks who make up the majority of the population). Give us more of that! 😮. The planet needs it too!! 🌴🌳🏝️
Probably a faster production of the new Juniper, as it was for the highland. We will see over 2 million sold EASY next year
Hi do believe it’s worthwhile to wait for the juniper version to be released rather than purchasing tesla model 3 highland. Love to hear your thoughts . Thanks Gurani
Love your continued work and efforts for contents provided .
Stalks are going away in all models, they aren't needed you old dinosaur
@@tonyn3227 LOL! yeah I'm glad to hear there is a "legacy Tesla" customer already. I can remember when folks wondered if Tesla would even make it.
Even Ferrari drivers can use them! Classic Darwin award. All input is error, all Teslas can go autonomy mode and activate turn signals automatically.
@@waynerussell6401 The buttons do move when you turn the steering wheel. They are no longer in the same place because the wheel has turned. Tried self driving on my Model Y and it is not anywhere near ready for prime time.
Juniper Model Y ,,,,,, thats when I sell my 2019 Model 3. Cant wait!!
Higher energy density packs probably means smaller/lighter/cheaper packs w the same range and not longer range.
exactly...this is the way...
It doesn’t matter what Elon thinks. If competitors offer comparable models with higher range then Tesla will have to follow.
Not necessarily. IMO it is better to improve efficiency than increase range with heavier batteries.
If you think that the new Model Y will get 20% range improvements without an increase in battery size, you should start selling what you're smoking.
So I reeeeally want the M3 Highland SR when it comes to Canada… I’d be thrilled if they put the new and improved LFP batteries into that as well, but I am not too hopeful…
My new Model X has adaptive Headlights. So bright and clear
I went to test drive the model Y for the first time 2 months ago. Until I researched the 2024 model…I’m definitely waiting for this new one! I just wish Musk could have agreed on an optional HUD.
Will it get the 48v system like the cyber truck?
Doubt it, that would be a huge supply chain issue.
Thanks, this was really good news. I am a stock holder.
Can’t wait!! Please let us know if your Chinese source gives you more information.. to me it’s really important to know when they’re switching to the new model because now it looks so old compared to the highland :(
Cheers mate
I’m not a Tesla fan with its 24-7 recording of me when I’m in my own car etc but mainly they look old even the new ones BUT that Y Juniper is Delish !!add all latest tech to boot and the range. I may have to get one damn it
all new cars do this now as it is mandated by ICE rules. From 2024 all new vehicles needs data recorders besides a few more now mandated features. Though many are already std on higher end vehicles.
My 2019 Model 3 SR+ is going to be 5 years old in October (139,000 kms). Thinking of buying a new Model 3 in early 2025 so i'm betting the 3 will get these batteries by then too
Wow tesla is the best company we want this kind of car but the model y 2023 does not have these thing now we are waiting for this one !
how many miles to a charge
You where talking about the same stuff before highland, including wired steering is confirmed, remember??
Tesla may not think they need to bother, but I would have thought that a new Model Y with a full wagon style body shape as an alternative option would be a hit.
Model Y won’t have indicator stalks either, woo hoo!!
Seriously??
That will be a dealbreaker for millions of potential purchasers!
Sales of the model Y will collapse if they remove the stalks….it’s a STEP TOO FAR for most drivers 😳😳
No stalks means no deal.
@@Devilhuo Exactly!!
If we historically had buttons for our turn signals and Tesla wanted to add a stalk, do you think people would say it was too far? I can see why they want to eliminate it. It’s simpler. It’s less of a change than going from a shifter for your gears to a stalk, imo.
@@M4rt_FX It’s barely in production!! (Not even in production in the USA 😳😳) No proof of it selling like hot cakes!!
BTW, why do all you Tesla cultists/fanbois ALWAYS desperately DEFEND some of the really DUMB decisions that Tesla makes ????
Remember how Musk said that the JOKE (aka yoke) was the best steering device ever?
And the new S/X WOULD never behave a round wheel??
Well, he’s now had to EAT HIS WORDS, because a round wheel is the default, and the joke(aka yoke) is a $1,000 option!!!
Yes, $1,000 for that HEAP of SHIT😳😳
Any news on whether the German factory will change over at the same time?
If you do practically all your charging at home, or some other destination AC charging source, then the increased charging speed is irrelevant.
Tesla is the winner and that's just a fact
I doubt they'll do it but it would be nice if they added a driver cluster.

Hopefully, we will get a new update 2030 with flybywire, casting frames, longer range.

I would love to buy the upcoming model 3 Highland but I have height clearance anxiety.
So Juniper it is.
Why do they not ude 800volt?
If Tesla uses these batteries, in the US it loses the $7500 consumer rebate and the $4500 battery subsidy. Seems more likely we'll see these batteries in the PowerWall.
