    This is the second home in which th-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU we've replaced our "regular" doorbell with a Ring video doorbell and we really enjoy it. It is very easy to install and it works very well, with a clear picture through the app and good in-home use (we added the chime, which is also easy to install and doesn't require another thought to use).

    The X and ✓ buttons (with the red dots) indicate the panic buttons. If you hold those down simaltaniously it will instantly trigger the alarm. (If you have the monitoring plan it will send them an alarm as well)

    I just found out that I need several (I ordered 6) SLIM MAGNETS for my doors, as the way they are built, there is inadequate room for the magnets provided by Ring. I recommend to new buyers to check the doors and windows, and see if the contact sensors will work fine. My previous security provider was ADT, and I did not realize till now, that they had put in slim magnets for some of my doors and windows. I will install 3 motion sensors instead of just one that ADT has had at my home. And bother less with window sensors. But all entry doors will have contact sensors.
    And oh, about cellular backup: Ring uses AT&T. The signal from AT&T at my home is kind of poor. Displays as one short red bar on the display. So I called Ring, and was told that even if the color is red, as long as there is one bar, that is adequate for an emergency transmission if my WiFi is down. Really, Ring needs to use other cell networks if there is inadequate signal with AT&T. Besides, Verizon is far better for national (USA) coverage. SimpliSafe uses Verizon by the way. We did not want to spend $25 a month for the same service which is $10 a month (actually $8.30 a month if you pay yearly at $100 a year) with Ring. Cellular backup is very important.

    We live in the wilderness of interior Alaska so our needs are fairly unique...I like the Ring system because I get an email as soon as a sensor is tripped...a motion sensor, a door or cabinet is opened, a water heater starts leaking, a entry way starts freezing, the smoke/CO2 detector is sensed, etc. No monthly service fee which would be useless in our case since emergency response is much slower than me getting an email and having the neighbor run over to check out the problem. I did order a different sensor on Amazon that emails me the room temperature so I can see if there is any problem starting during the cold Alaska winters. If someone breaks in a steals a $200 TV, no big deal, but if they break in and the pipes freeze, or our water heater leaks, or the freezer dies with prime Alaskan salmon...thats a big deal. Ring Alarm's base station has a battery backup that lasts for 24 hours if the power goes out...by then my neighbor will have our generator up and running

    • @adamgarrison2762

      You can customize it to set off the alarm in home mode via the app if you so desire. They are supposed to be good for pets up to 80lbs, but I have heard of that not really being the case. Then again, it's an IR sensor that's looking for a signature of a given size and unable to tell the weight, so if you have a greyhound that is 30 inches tall, but only weighs 70 lbs, there's a chance that it'll still set off the alarm because of the size of the signature.

    • @tarinaten2053
      @tarinaten2053 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lots of people have alarm systems than be armed with one touch at the keypad. Then they discover that children---that's ALL visiting children in the family--WILL experiment with the keypad when they think no one's watching. Some adults will also. If your kids are good about leaving things alone, are they teens yet? That's prone to change, and teens will bring home teen friends who will occasionally prod at anything that beeps when you touch it.
      If you have one-touch arming, you are GOING to have the system occasionally Armed when there's no one around who knows the code to Disarm. Think about being called at work or maybe on a day trip, to disarm your alarm system at home.
      Nobody who's familiar with alarm systems and customer behavior, is going to make the system too easy to arm. I know some customers _think_ they want that, but they usually change their minds once it's been in operation for awhile and they find how many people just push keypad buttons 'to see what happens'.
      I've been an alarm tech for 40+ years, and this is experience speaking.

Simplisafe allows user to include or exclude contact and/or motion sensor in whether is Home or Away mode ...which is very helpful in scenario such arming in Home mode and one or two area user wanted to have motion sensor armed V.S Ring on or nothing!

    • @adamgarrison2762

      We all know ring makes cameras, but they can't be tied to the alarm system. They are monitored separately by you via your device, not by the available monitoring service. For example, if you have a ring doorbell and the alarm system and the doorbell senses motion, it will not trigger your alarm, but rather send you an alert.

    I have a decent sized house and no range extender is needed for my Simplisafe system. Why is it necessary for Ring? I am thinking of switching to Ring because Simplisafe is junky and unpredictable.

    • @TechHiveVideo
      @TechHiveVideo  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Ring sensors work on a low-power wireless system called Z-Wave to conserve energy. Ring says a typical range is 250 feet (about 75 meters) so most houses should be OK without one. But that range is influenced by placement of the sensors and base station, the number of walls between the units and even what the wall is made of. The range extender is therefore helpful in larger homes or where Z-Wave has problems. You might not need it. More here: shop.ring.com/collections/security-system/products/alarm-range-extender

    Wonderful. So someone breaks into my home in the middle of the night and they have 30 seconds or so to cave my head in before the alarm goes off. I'm pretty sure most decent alarms when armed trigger immediately for all zones apart from entry. This thing had better gain some customization options pretty quickly. Also how about some vibration sensors. It's way more useful to detect people breaking in rather than when they gain entry (or 30 seconds later) and then get a chance to put a claw hammer to your head.

    • @roderickward3322

      Beck, I encourage you to look at the total cost, not the hardware cost. The cheapest comparable SimpliSafe plan I can find (24/7 monitors, cellular, phone alerts) is $25 per month. Ring charges $10 per month. After 1 or 2 years, you'll have paid more for the SimpliSafe. This has been the business of alarm companies for years. A low-cost or 'free' alarm system then regular monthly payments that amount to thousands of dollars over the life of the system.

      Mark, The $10 per month for monitoring and camera storage beats everything else on the market at the moment. I haven't come across another monitored security system that charges so low a monthly price. It's possible to get video cameras with a generous free cloud storage plan (Arlo) or no storage (Netatmo) but not with monitored security. Unmonitored is of course free. If you're going to pay anything for cameras and security, this is a good price. If you want to go the 100% free route there are options, but you lose some functionality.

      You still have to pay Ring for cloud storage on doorbell and floodlights, correct?

      Or I guess I should say that $10 a month does not include the monthly/yrly cloud storage u have to pay for for the Rings cams and any extra sensor’s or glass break sensor..I pay $25 per mnth from my house alarm monitoring and got all my equipment for free and I’m not on any contracts..plus we all know that sometimes with any diy companies like Nest,Ring and Arlo’s that they have issues from time to time with firmware updates and server so if that happens your Ring home alarm is render useless..thats what I call too many eggs in ONE basket..at least with using a seperate alarm company from my Diy cams I know my house alarm is always protected no matter if my cams are having issues..
      FYI: I use Arlos and a few other name brands that sometimes have thoses issues...

      Mark Her, the $10 per month includes everything. I have 8 Ring cameras and have this new alarm, $10 per month. No other security company can beat that for monitoring and storage.
