I didn't expect it but this scene gave me chills the first time I saw it. It's strange that as a Mexican-American such a British film felt so relatable, but in the end it's a human story.

Yes it’s true, and so is the fact that they were all thrown out onto their arses systematically without anything.
Coal is obviously harmful for the environment, too, but that didn’t matter to the Thatcher Government. What mattered was the financial side. Any sane government would have sought to replace the jobs lost or to help people retrain. All that was offered was the dole. They were thrown out, left for dead, as far as the government was concerned.

A very good film, well-directed, fantastic cast, believable storyline.
A little bit politically skewed: the Labour administration before 1979 closed more pits than the Conservative one after, but that's an inconvenient truth. That doesn't detract from the film, which is a work of fiction.

Tony B Liar and SIR Kier Starmer ... a pair of tosspots who never did a day of 'actual labour' in their lives infiltrated and totally sold out the last few remaining working people in the UK ?

Nobody ever asked "who kept them (and other industries) open when they were losing money, because they were afraid of being the government that closed them?". The money poured into uneconomic industries (by both parties), out of fear, could have been better spent on finding/developing alternatives.
