Look at Pete Postlethwaite's facial mannerisms between 3:45 -3:58, he is FEELING the music. Pride, happiness, trust; high emotion to the very point of tears. THATS acting
A simply astonishing piece of music from an equally amazing movie. Nothing moves me like great brass band music, and this puts a lump in my throat, it is just so good.
I love the contrast between the upbeat melody and the sombre mood of the scene. It just enhances an eerie sense of foreboding and is darkly ironic. Also Pete Posthelwaite's acting at the end of the scene is phenomenal. You can sense his character's pain but he is striving to go on.
Lucky you. I remember them all matching through Doncaster pre 84. I was just a kid and thought it so naff Mum dragged me along . If only I had known what it all would mean to me when it was gone. The music must have wormed its way into my heart too
Fucik was a great composer, and this march is ever the real composition, 120 tempo is okee, and....... the last 32 measures for the piccolo-part. Heavently to play and listening. Examination piece I think
I used to play trombone in a brass band. The section beginning at 1.48 was tricky to play, with double tonguing and use of alternative slide positions. At this tempo I doubt whether I could have managed it!
Fabulous film. Of towns betrayed and people cast on the scrap heap by both Labour & Conservatives. The 'clown'' speech monologue is one of the saddest and heart wrenching in British cinema.
@ramonnie007 He grew up in a culture with a long, long tradition of ~110bpm marching music. If he lived some 40-50 years later he might've written it at that pace, unlike Blankenburg, Fučík didn't write marches at Stars and Stripes Forever speed. When the tempo is not as intended, a piece is adapted for use, it'd be wrong to assume that is the correct speed, as long as one realizes it's an adaptation. Analogous to the ever-increasing tempos used for Händel's 1st coronation anthem..
anyone who says it's going too fast, in films for some reason I don't know music is often sped up, no idea why but listen to the soundtrack and it'll be different
I initially thought you had made a mistake with the word "deportment" and I chose to ignore it but after a little thought it hit me...........it means the same as "comportment" which is what I thought you meant. Wonderful language, English isn't it?
Good film and a very well played rendition of The Florentiner March, although most of it is played at too fast a tempo. If played any faster it could be classified as a circus "Screamer". A piece of trivia: Fucik subtitled this march "Grande Marcia Italiana" as it is my understanding he wrote this march to honor the people of Florence.
I think it's very likely that you aleady enjoy other compositions by Julius Fucik, one of them being "Entrance of the Gladiators." It's a pity that many people associate it with circus music and dismiss it.
@picaticatara What kind of Oboe melody? Btw: I have played 5 different transcribitions of this music piece ;) so there are many different versions and impressions from band bot Brass and Winds all over the globe
Written for 120, but played at 138. It's a quick march for cryin' out loud, not a horse race. When it comes to European marches, remember. Slow is good.
G'day Erica! I watched this movie recently on SBS on demand. Great music & great movie! I also say this because I play Tuba in a community band. Do you play an instrument?
The problem with this film is that anyone watching who does not know better will think that we travel to contests dressed in stage uniforms and carrying instruments without cases. Also, the "test pieces" are of the type that any good band would expect to sight-read.
@ramonnie007 Just because it's the standard these days, doesn't mean it's right. Read up on marching music and you'll find out. 120bpm is the MODERN tempo. I'd refer you to the March (music) page on wikipedia, there undoubtedly is one. Fučík was a classical style composer. There's a recording from Tokyo's Kosei Wind Orchestra on youtube which nails the tempo. You don't play a 'deliberate' march at warp 9 (120bpm) when sitting down and it's much stronger when paced at 108-112 while marching.
A band with a top conductor leading them beyond themselves to play more then the notes great ♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪ ♫♪ ♫♪great sound! ♫♪♫♪ ☺ ♥ ♫♪☺♫♪ great ♫♪♫♪☺ BRAVISSIMO @bisbis 🎶🎵🎼 great music! a well tuned ensemble that sounds like an organ ! Fabulous banding
A tad fast. While 120bpm is generally considered marching pace, not so for central european (german, austrian, czech) march music. Roughly 108-112 is preferable; 'twas Napoléon who decided to march his troops at 120bpm to outmaneuver his enemies (move faster) and the Americans later mimicked him but it's far from a universal truth. Since the 'Florentiner' is also for street performance, this is a little rushed (doesn't help the movements of the characters don't synch).
Too fast, needs to be slower to shine this one. Bad editing too, it's clear Pete Postlethwaith doesn't synch with the music, which of course was brought in from elsewhere. Hinders the scene in my opinion, though I'm sure Pete's doing his best.
Pete was an awesome actor. He played his role beyond compare. The right actor for the right movie.
Pete Poslethwaite clearly had some musical skill. Even though he was a mainstream actor, his conducting of 'Grimley' was very convincing. What a man!
B
Jeezo! !fantastic as s He !?Mainstream !kidding you Are
!mainstream right She
That would be because Pete took the time to learn how to conduct a band before he made this film.-
I am appearing in the stage version and the actor conducting is taking conducting lessons!
amazing piece of music I love this film never get tired of listening to and watching it.
Too
Greatest British film of all time
Look at Pete Postlethwaite's facial mannerisms between 3:45 -3:58, he is FEELING the music. Pride, happiness, trust; high emotion to the very point of tears. THATS acting
A simply astonishing piece of music from an equally amazing movie. Nothing moves me like great brass band music, and this puts a lump in my throat, it is just so good.
Amazing film. And the ost is just as great , as Gary Oldman said in Leon. Realy gets the juices flowing .
I love the contrast between the upbeat melody and the sombre mood of the scene. It just enhances an eerie sense of foreboding and is darkly ironic. Also Pete Posthelwaite's acting at the end of the scene is phenomenal. You can sense his character's pain but he is striving to go on.
I thought music mattered, does it bugger.
that is well put
Ever met a true old school colliery bandsman who worked down the pit and then did band practice.
This entire movie is growing on me. The mix of incredible music and the depiction of the harsh times is fantastic and sombre.
Great film, great music and the Piece Hall just looks brilliant.
The music and acting in this lovely film will always make me well up
WOWSER! This is the best version I've heard. Taken at a fast clip! Cheers!
What a wonderful actor. RIP Mr. Posthlewait.
Conductor is excellent!
I saw the band last night in Wakefield - absolutely brilliant live.
Lucky you. I remember them all matching through Doncaster pre 84. I was just a kid and thought it so naff Mum dragged me along . If only I had known what it all would mean to me when it was gone. The music must have wormed its way into my heart too
Who cares if it has been speeded up, it's still a beautiful piece of music.
Use 0.75 speed.
Who says/ sounds like correct time to me at ;east at the speed we played it in The RAN Band.
Fucik was a great composer, and this march is ever the real composition,
120 tempo is okee, and....... the last 32 measures for the piccolo-part.
Heavently to play and listening. Examination piece I think
Brilliant backdrop at the Piece Hall in Halifax, not a bad march either.
I used to play trombone in a brass band. The section beginning at 1.48 was tricky to play, with double tonguing and use of alternative slide positions. At this tempo I doubt whether I could have managed it!
Absolutely mint your a very talent fella ❤
I'll be glad when the Piece Hall opens again!
Fabulous and very sad, the music wonderful
Jeden z najlepszych filmow
I wish I had a chance to listen on the spot
Fabulous film. Of towns betrayed and people cast on the scrap heap by both Labour & Conservatives. The 'clown'' speech monologue is one of the saddest and heart wrenching in British cinema.
Great film.
Brassed Off.
This Is the best czech March 🇨🇿
So sad that in this time communities were destroyed.. generations fell fowl of disparity...then came closed shops, closed people and drugs ...
Nice! Haven't heard this since I played it in college.
i play in a brass band in austria and we play this march too, but much slower!
PERFECTLY AWESOME!!!!
+Roger Regor Fast is best for all marches! Take it from the Italians. They pitch upward, too, to get excitement.
She blows flugel like an angel.
Pete Poslethwaite was a great actor.
An excellent summing up of the whole debacle
Florentina March rocks :-) Brilliant film - thanks for the clips (even though I can watch it anytime on DVD! - ha)
1:34 It’s Eric! Later seen hiring out inflatable filth to Brian Potter!
You might find that most of the pieces in the film have been speeded up from the original soundtrack recording.
This play is faster than the test-pattern music of The University of the Air.
@ramonnie007 He grew up in a culture with a long, long tradition of ~110bpm marching music. The principal trombone in this band is my teacher 😊
0:37
It's great up north
It sure is!!!
It bloody is, that
The principal cornet player is my teacher :)
The Soprano cornet player is mine :)
Eee, that were reet lovely!
The film is called 'Brassed Off'
The tempo is spot on, also listen to Eric Coates conducting the Knightsbridge March, faster than you normally hear it.
Magnificent
This has a big section missing out of it, right in the middle, at approximately 3:28. Why?
for dramatic effect...
It`s a hreat movie from England.-
Elvio from Argentina
Well, thats good to hear...Julius Fucick was a genious when he wrote Florentiner March :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
anyone who says it's going too fast, in films for some reason I don't know music is often sped up, no idea why but listen to the soundtrack and it'll be different
this is the best speed for this march ...sitting haha , everything else on yt is too slow, mnozil brass has good version too for something different
You will find that the music has been sped up from the original soundtrack recording
I initially thought you had made a mistake with the word "deportment" and I chose to ignore it but after a little thought it hit me...........it means the same as "comportment" which is what I thought you meant. Wonderful language, English isn't it?
Nevertheless,a stunning piece of music.

this debate about speed seems a bit strange to me.. this version even sounds a bit slow in my opinion!
Faster is best. Wish I could hear the piece by this band by itself without the mix to pix.
@picaticatara What kind of Oboe melody? Btw: I have played 5 different transcribitions of this music piece ;) so there are many different versions and impressions from band bot Brass and Winds all over the globe
are you from Earl Hagi o.O
Written for 120, but played at 138. It's a quick march for cryin' out loud, not a horse race. When it comes to European marches, remember. Slow is good.
Isn't it a soprano cornet? No oboes in brass bands...
@sokki88 It's faster than most high school level versions.
amama is right...it IS a quote from the movie.
Does anybody know the title of the movie? Thanks a lot
Brassed off
@@perularrabeitiestrada9089 thank you!
G'day Erica! I watched this movie recently on SBS on demand. Great music & great movie! I also say this because I play Tuba in a community band. Do you play an instrument?
Which film is this?
Pekmez Byr Its brassed off
When I last played this, we took it a _lot_ slower. :-)
what is a clarinet good for in an orchestra ?
to light the basson ...
Ha ha ha ha!!!!
I peter it played at about this speed, anything to slow isn't good in my opinion
vielleicht etwas zu schnell...aber sehr saubere Interpretation..danke fürs einstellen.
lg hermi
Sounds better with a bit more pace.
super, lekker tempo!
What movie is this from?
Colin Bauman - Brassed Off!
❤️🏴🇬🇧🏴
Haven't been there since they tarted it up. Always Halifax never Brighouse!
❤❤❤
This version isn't fast at all. I've played this many times and this is the normal speed I'd say. It's a march afterall! It's not meant to drag
Dantowey3266s this is a concert March you don’t actually march to it
It's a film. Mate
It's about a struggling community being torn apart
Just with some relief with the music
ah but she pays f it in orangejuice almost perfect in that me n ma mates studied it lol x
The problem with this film is that anyone watching who does not know better will think that we travel to contests dressed in stage uniforms and carrying instruments without cases. Also, the "test pieces" are of the type that any good band would expect to sight-read.
A wonderful piece of music and a great film, so the actors are not musicians? who really cares? the music is still fantastic.
It's a brass band. Ever seen an oboe made of brass?
Das Tempo etwas zu schnell, aber ansonsten sehr saubere Marschmusik !!
It's a flugelhorn, don't know the manufacturer but it's certainly unconventional looking...sounds fine though
BandGeekBarclay Hawkes Excelsior Sonorous model flugelhorn
Is there an oboe? I didn't hear or see one
No i don't think so.
Piece Hall has just reopened after £21 million revamp...go look and go into the theatre,
@ramonnie007 Just because it's the standard these days, doesn't mean it's right. Read up on marching music and you'll find out. 120bpm is the MODERN tempo. 0:55 What the fuck kind of trumpet/cornet is that?!
It's a Flugelhorn or just Flugel.
In a bit of a hurry to get to the beer and bratwurst are we?
Its a picture of when Britain DIED. RIP :(
Britain is overrun by terrorists.
Its not to fast, its going in that speed.
@grahambennett8151 thnx sweetheart! ♥ love Vanessa xoxoxo
It's not only too fast, it's WAY too fast. When whoever it was said "We're going to win this one" he wasn't talking about the Kentucky Derby.
A tad fast. While 120bpm is generally considered marching pace, not so for central european (german, austrian, czech) march music. Wow, un poco zu schnell in my opinion !
Ce n'est pas du Rossini mais cela reste agréable à écouter...
4 clarinets ...
oboe??
No oboes in a brass band!!
that's why it is called bras band...only brass instruments
Yeah, you can even hear a clarinet🤔
Payback from Maggie T to Joe Gormely and co!
a lot of something Fast !!!!
Too fast, needs to be slower to shine this one. Bad editing too, it's clear Pete Postlethwaith doesn't synch with the music, which of course was brought in from elsewhere. Hinders the scene in my opinion, though I'm sure Pete's doing his best.
