- During these trying and uncertain times, we hope to be able to spread a little bit of love and movie magic by showcasing some of our favourite moments in film.
Next up is Martin Grindlay, Finance and Operations Manager, with this beautifully stirring clip from the 1996 bittersweet drama Brassed Off.
In North Yorkshire, a local colliery band led by Danny (Pete Postlethwaite), prepare for the National Brass Band championships, at a time when the pit's miners face redundancy. When the daughter of a former band leader named Gloria (Tara Fitzgerald) arrives, her return to the band raises their spirits, alongside a blossoming relationship with one of the band’s younger members (Ewan McGregor).
With Gloria leading on the flugelhorn, this pivotal scene showcases the band performing Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez. Combining the yearning, pining quality of brass band music with the film’s dry humour, politics and human stories, Brassed Off reminds us that it's the music that matters.
Please note Cinemoments may not be available in all territories.
Sometimes I'd like to give 10 thumbs up. Sometime there are pure jewel pieces of music. This is one of it.
Pete's acting and the music, it's hard to tell who gave the greater performance. There was never a better actor, nor was there ever a better piece of music, just my opinion
Totally agree.
Well said
Absolutely agree. I have watched this film over and over. Superb
Indeed🫡❤🫡
Agree 100 %
I don't know why, but this movie it's one of my favourites of all time. ❤️
It still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. All I can say absolutely beautiful.
and so it should
There's acting...then there's been so in tune (no pun intended) with the story you're trying to tell. Regardless of film taste, musical taste, whatever taste, this is one of the most perfectly filmed scenes out there
I first heard this about two weeks ago, and I’m totally hooked! Never considered Brass music, but this is fabulous, listen to it every day!
Nothing beat a miners brass band
Concierto de Aranjuez. Compositor Joaquín Rodrigo. Second act adagio.
Cant think of anything so beautifull as this Piece of music
I had this piece played at my wifes funeral but instead of brass it was played by John Williamson the guitarist with the backing of a symphone orchestra still brings tears to me. Both recordings are beautiful.
@@jimspink2922 John Williams... but yea my favourite guitar concerto... it holds a special place in my heart... my father and i took a road trip and we blasted it :)
Those Coal Mines of Hard work brought forth the Choirs and The Brass Bands of so many unnamed folks That brought a sparkle into Daily Life
The acting is superb, the plot compelling, the music beautiful, and Tara Fitzgerald is gorgeous. What a fine movie!
You mean Gloria.......
Absolutely one of my favorites.movies, such true emotions as to what was happening to the mining industry and the latest ves it destroyed.Supurb acting and the music especially the beautiful Tara Fitzgerald solo still brings a lump to my throat. Brilliant, one of my favourite movies that u never tire of seeing.
Still awesome in 2024❤
I am a miner's son and a former trombone player, albeit in a swing big band. This touched me in so many ways. Thanks for uploading!

Wow, a wonderful trip down memory lane - for this piece of music, this beautifully made sad film, and for so many excellent young actors who went on to bring such joy and meaning in their acting in the ensuing years.
This number always makes me cry!
One of the best film clips
Pete p masters it
An unique piece of acting, just by moving his head and his expression

Watched it so many times, but the goose bumps remain. What a wonderful film. Billy Elliot was one I saw many times. Tiny budget but unforgettable movies 🎥🎥🎥🎥
Goosebumps never lie
Tears in my eyes again. It does it everytime.
She calls that wobbly. Brilliant Pete.
Un film coup de poing particulièrement émouvant et une des plus belles scènes du film ! A voir et revoir ! Extraordinaire Pete Postlethwaite... décédé trop tôt
Gets me every time I hear this tune 😭
This sends chills up and down my spine.
I'm not crying. You are.
You’re not wrong

Just Wonderful!!
Amazing makes me cry
Brillaint!!! 🤍
I remember reading all about the trouble of closing the coal mines in England, reading about it in the Daily telegraph in Australia. Putting miners out of work because it was cheaper to import coal from China.
Can you please tell an illinformed man about people who were effected by pit closures how has their lives moved forward.
Speaking for myself, as an ex-miner, made redundant Christmas 1990, it was a bit of a roller coaster ride. Took me about four years to find a full time job, did have part time jobs as a warehouse worker, taxi driver, data inputter. Eventually got in to working in social housing as a support worker, my last job was in a mental health rehab unit, which lasted me up to retirement seven years ago. That was a job I loved, worthwhile and good people to work with. Closing the pit was, for me, probably a good thing in the end, certainly health wise, if I'd worked in the pit up to retirement it would probably have left more of a mark.
Thanks for sharing your story . Enjoy your retirement and may it be a long one , it sounds as if you truly earned it .
My thoughts also ...
Such a great film.
Love this❤
So beautiful
Good thing this movie came out before the whole global warming thing got started. Today many Green people would say the mines should have been closed twenty years sooner.
It’s not about the pit, or the coal - whilst these are real things and events, it’s more about community and people pulling together despite adversity. It’s hard to glamourise an industry that at the heart of it wrecked lives and put profit before people. I speak as one from a family of miners who led short, hard lives and died young often as a consequence of the work. Indeed it would have been much better if the mines had been phased out centuries before, but the options weren’t there then
@@graham1735 Wait, a company tried to make a profit? Pray tell, how else would any company operate? Indeed, isn't that the real reason the mines were closed, they weren't profitable?
Thatcher was the one who pushed the Global Warming nonsense into international politics.
@@eamonanderson1304Aye lad; there's nowt wrong wirra bit of profit, as long as it's not at some other buggers expense...these lads were coffin up black phlegm so't rest of us could switch ont kettle. Think on...
Großartig !!!!
Rodrigo's d'orange juice 😃😃
Nothing better 😌
Women and men who went through miners strike together
Great, great film...
My favourite song love it ❤
Yes this is one of my emotional relax time listening.
Although such a political music compilation depending what side you lean too.
Absolutely a great movie and the music is superb but it divides the listeners and starts so many arguments and escalates to hatred.
This video and music has so much meaning to the Brits that were involved.
The family's, the wages and jobs within the mining industry wiped out.
Things had to change but it changed into a war that i could understand as no viable employment alternative in the areas.
It was done so quick but maybe not as we will never know the true facts....i guess i will be bombarded with yes we did.
Unfortunately it had to happen but maybe it wouldn't with correct management but me to say.
After all said the music should inspire you to like and enjoy .
All i know is this is a great interpretation of music and feelings that gives us joy listening. .
これは素人の集まりっぽく作っているけど皆さんプロの演奏家でしょうね。
The tone is wonderful
最高だわ👍
Sublime!!
Yassss queeen x
Lovely.
Agree love it
Marveles
grandios!!!
Welcher Film ,tolle Musik😢
Brassed off
Keep coming back to it time after time -- brilliant
Beautiful 👌
WOW ! again
A keep forgetting that Ewan McGregor was in Brassed Off.
Obi Wan Down T'pit.
Check out the film
They do not make them like this anymore .
WOKERY , destroys everything it touches !!!!
Woke means awake to injustice. Anyone ‘woke’ would have been on the side of the miners. Stop trying to use the word as an insult.
Please explain??
Concerto de orange-juice 🤣😂😅
Orange juice concert.
WoW
Love ❤️ this ❤❤❤❤
Fabulous
Bravo on all counts. Such a poignant film.
Thank you again, Mrs Thatcher. Now we don’t have to listen to any more superb brass bands.
My old work colleague, who actually features in this clip, and really played music, tells how Pete Postlethwaite used to buy the drinks for the Grimethorpe Colliery Band, while he snorted coke off the table tip.
Apart from the brilliance of this movie. We are now importing coal at a higher cost than when we dug out ourselves
Damn Mrs Thatcher.
God do I love being working class.
1:43
Would like to know who performed this piece must say perfect thank you
It was Grimethorpe Colliery Band who the film is based on.
It was Paul Hughes of the Grimethorpe Colliery band
An incredible film about real people, and a criminal priminister who murdered an entire industry, and shattered whole community's,, just to crush a union,,,,,,
NOT YOUR GLORIFIED HOLLYWOOD DROSS.
When you see the RUBBISH that’s being shown on British tv …it makes you wonder how these broadcasters get away with…NOT SHOWING BRITISH FILMS OF THIS QUALITY…THERES HUNDREDS OFTHEM …SHOW THEM
They can’t speak Spanish, but they can play.
Touring juice
Exactly what kind of horn is she playing? It looks too large to be a trumpet.
Flugelhorn
Prefer Tara's posh voice
poghers
Fin is egg
Why has Tara got no clothes on in this clip?
If this doesn't tell people to stop voting bloody tori then nothing will
The Tories are currently wanting to open a new pit but Labour aren't so sure.
I bet you don't think that now wokey blokey!
