There were people of all races, ages and backgrounds flying flags of many different nations and everyone was going mad belting out this as well the other standards. We were just partying to great music. Can't go wrong with this one. Elgar himself admitted a tune like this comes along only once a lifetime.
I was in London during the 75th Anniversary of the Auschwitz liberation and finding out my Anne Frank project was published was very emotional and that was the reason I got invited to the Royal Albert Hall to join the event. It’s unfortunately not the same. They almost removed Land Of Hope And Glory and Rule Britannia and then when they said they’d keep it, they started waving the pride flag at it. What does the pride flag have anything to do with pure British patriotism? I was born in the wrong generation.
I am a British Army Infantry Veteran (3RGJ) and a retired Metropolitan Police Officer, and this video reflects the British Peoples love of our country, and their strong willingness to stand up to defend our country today from mass invasion.

Where else can we understand what makes a nation? The best of British patriotism comes from the deepest part of the heart and is a vibrant prayer to God. This song expresses a positive view of human history, one guided by the Providence. Here, United Kingdom sings together as a nation chosen by Heaven for a worldwide mission. We think then of the many scentits, writers, missionaries, businessmen born in England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, who brought values to the rest of the world. Every nation had its dark side, but this piece expresses the very good points of Great Britain. I am French but I really see Great Britain as the homeland of some of my most cherished ideals
Except the Lord did not "choose" the UK for a worldwide mission. If thou think He did, thou hast created god in thine own image - and not the other way round.
@@christopherdavis80 And yet ye sing, when ye wave your flags, that ye (the British) were "first at Heav’n’s command". That at the very beginning when ye "Arose from out the azure main" supernatural entities were having orgasms of ecstasy over just you, egging you on singing "Rule, Britannia! Britannia, rule the waves" and that ye never would be slaves. And as for other countries, well compared with thy country, "not so blest as thee" now were they. Naturally, it's all a load of codswallop, but I can't other than think it is codswallop that fires up the jingoistic flag waving.
@LuvlyEditor ッ I’d say this is too stretched out for a national anthem, Rule Britannia is a bit more to the point, although snowflakes would have none of it. Shame the people in power can’t crush them.
My dearest late nan always said this should of been the National Anthem!! She used to sing it with such pride.... POWERFUL to the EXTREME!! God Save the Queen/king never tuned in with me. And I don't think it does with many people. We are the LAND OF HOPE & GLOrY!!!
I would agree with that...Land of Hope and glory would make a far better National Anthem. I don't dislike the Royal family but the anthem should be about country, not a family.
Sir Edward Elgar, a man of towering musical genius, gave the world one of the greatest symphonic marches ever written. Praise the Lord and Alleluia, and long live the United Kingdom!!!!
A Yank here and greatly moved by the audience and their dosplay of love of country. At the 2:40 or so mark I was tearing up with the people singing and proudly waving their flags. May the sun never set on Great Britain . Inspiring and magnificent. As for PM Keir Starmer he can go.....well you know.
I'm Bavarian and this performance gives me goosebumps. There's nothing wrong at all about being proud of one's country. How can we love others if we even don't love our own?
@john jack Alas, every country has history like this. Mine, too - I'm not British. French, Germans - yeah the Germans - Spanish - Belgian - just look at European colonialism the world over. Guess what? The past is as dead as dead can be. Moving forward into a decent future is the best we can do.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II left us today, 08 September 2022, but we have her memory and the wonder of her life lived. Stand up and celebrate what we had before all the current nonsense, and sing your heart out that we might win together again as a united people.
Elgar said "this will make them sit up",he was so right, over a hundred years later we still sit up and love the patriotic feelings this magnificent opus gives us!,theres little that comes close.
And hopefully with Boris in charge and Brexit confirmed, that feeling can infiltrate into all parts of our society. God save the Queen, and may He bless the United Kingdom.
My son, born in Canada, just got his British passport. Overtime he'll come to realize that he is a citizen of the greatest country to have ever arisen on earth.
Britain should be proud of its culture. Do not shy away from waving the flag of your nation. Don’t give into those who hate you because of what you are!
@Light_n_Fluffy It would have been MONUMENTALLY STUPID to go against the USSR. It would have instantly launched WWIII, right after the disater that was WWII. The world was far too tired.
Kind of ironic that it was an American general that didn't want to march on, seeing as we still had plenty of manpower left compared to the rest of europe
To think here in my homeland of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland this song represents our patriotism, national pride, and rich heritage meanwhile on the other side of the water this beloved song is used for a glorified award ceremony...
without the lyrics, it's just Elgar's music, which is a march and can be played for any processional like anything by John Philip Sousa. It became habitually used as commencement music after Yale University played it to honor Elgar when awarding him an honorary doctorate at the 1905 commencement.

I was at the last night in 2008, not at the Royal Albert Hall but in Hyde Park. There were people of all races, ages and backgrounds flying flags of many different nations and everyone was going mad belting out this as well the other standards. We were just partying to great music. Can't go wrong with this one. Elgar himself admitted a tune like this comes along only once a lifetime.
He came to dislike it in the end.
And it’s our lifetime……we are very fortunate.
Yes, it's called the Munchausen Syndrome
I was in London during the 75th Anniversary of the Auschwitz liberation and finding out my Anne Frank project was published was very emotional and that was the reason I got invited to the Royal Albert Hall to join the event. I was only 17 years old at the time but I’m now 21 and I continue to be supported by the Holocaust foundations as I continue my interest in the tragedy that unfolded during the war. I should have been recognised by the late Queen for this or maybe the princess Royal might have noticed it
I’m sorry, but I think it should only be the Union flag.
From America, To our Mother, God Bless You!!!
I'm an American, but I love Britain like a mother, but especially England. I love this song.

It’s unfortunately not the same. They almost removed Land Of Hope And Glory and Rule Britannia and then when they said they’d keep it, they started waving the pride flag at it. What does the pride flag have anything to do with pure British patriotism? I was born in the wrong generation.
I'm an American of English family. One of my regrets (I'm aged) is that somehow I've managed to miss the Last Night of the Proms. Bother.

Over here we should simply sing to Anacreon in Heaven, dispense with Francis’s idiotic words.
