As magnificent as the individual tunes are, any Floyd album is meant to be listened to as a whole. They create a theatre in one's mind, leaving the listener to paint the backdrops.

As probably EVERYONE has said, listen to the whole album “Dark Side of the Moon”. Sit down, relax, drink a glass of wine (or whatever else), turn down the lights, and just sit there and soak it all in. This came out when I was about 15. Now, I’m 61. I remember I had this group of friends in my senior year of high school and we’d spend Sunday afternoons chilling out and listening to all that great stuff back then. My only regret is I never saw them in concert. Get this- my Dad was born in 1931 and he loved them. He was a cool Dad.

In the 1970's rock album music started going into very long songs. On the radio there was AM which was the normal listening format in the U.S. (I'm from the U.S. so can only speak to here), and FM which was up and coming as a radio format. FM stations played full length long songs, many stations playing entire albums nonstop of various bands and we loved it. FM became a 'hip' thing to do back then somewhat. Pink Floyd was one of the mainstays on FM radio and it was as good when it first came out as it is now.
Glad you and younger generations can appreciate it Rebeka.

The dark side is the best album in history and in turn this is my favorite song from it. It is beautiful, subtle, harmonious with a solemn touch that makes it a masterpiece worthy of this album.

It warms my heart that you can totally get a grasp of the music of Pink Floyd. We need to keep this music alive for generations because of not only the skill of music compositions but also the messages that most music now does not address.
I've been listening to PF from the beginning from my early teens and their music is just as [if not more] relevant today as it was when it was written.
Stay beautiful and hungry for great music Rebeka, you are the best.

Rebeka they don't have a bad song it's all fabulous your reactions are always absolutely spot on I feel we are soul mates when it comes to pink floyd the blend of instruments is pure heaven from guitar to sax to keyboard and drums and who nows what else it's all put together so beautifully and professionally these fellows have been at it for 50 odd years this is one reason why they are brilliant and it goes without saying extremely talented no substitute for experience is there I think your love of music is wonderful I share that love my parents encouraged me to listen to all forms of music my favourites are of course progressive rock classical jazz opera pretty much everything I'm now 72 years old and I like to think wiser but pink floyd will always be very special for me as they are for you rebeka great reaction as always keep on broadening your horizons you have great taste

Loved Pink Floyd since they released their 1st album in the 60's. They are without a doubt one of the best bands ever to grace our ears. What's amazing is how long they've been putting out hit after hit. Thx very much Rebeka for reacting to Pink Floyd..

Great choice, reminds me of a biker rally I was at some years ago, came out of my tent as it was getting light. I heard this song still being played around the campsite and saw a sea of bikes and handlebars in the early light. Magical memory. Thanks Rebeka and you're right Pink Floyd are epic, and David Gilmour is the GOAT.

I'm happy to see that more and more of the young people today start listening to this songs. It was not just the music (that gave us so much emotional cognition), it often was the lyrics that opened up our minds in those days. A whole generation became aware of what's goin' on - what's right and what's wrong. This kind of "input" sadly is missing today and is part of the reason why some things running so strange.

Us and Them is one of my all time favorite songs by Pink Floyd. This song is all about pointless differences between people, but let’s you know humanity can still be obtained. No, they don’t have any bad songs.
I saw Roger Waters “Us and Them” tour a few years ago. It was amazing.

PF had some truly weird songs. Half the songs from Piper at the Gates of Dawn are nearly incomprehensible and lack effective melody. Not that I'm complaining, but there are some periods during the Sid Barrett period when the band produced some...crazy diamonds.

I was a sophomore in high school when this came out. I wish I could share the wonderful memories I have of cruising with friends late at night listening to Pink Floyd. Thank you for this reaction. (Btw, just wanted to throw this in, in case anyone is wondering, the following dialogue by the band's roadie, Roger "The Hat" Manifold, one of his two spoken segments on the album, is heard before the second saxophone solo (5:04):
Well I mean, they're not gonna kill ya, so like, if you give 'em a quick sh ... short, sharp shock, they don't do it again. Dig it? I mean 'e got off light, 'cause I coulda given 'im a thrashin' but I only hit 'im once. It's only the difference between right and wrong innit? I mean good manners don't cost nothin' do they, eh?) 😉 (from Wikipedia)

Agree with many comments that this is a great song in isolation but should really be heard in the complete context of the album " Dark Side Of The Moon". However, no one should expect you to react to a 42 minute album!! Just treat yourself to listening to the whole thing in your own private time Rebekah. I promise you won't be disappointed. Stay safe and wrap up warm!!

As has been mentioned, The Dark Side of the Moon is meant to be listened to in one sitting. Each track flows into the next, and each track provides context to the next. In fact, the only break in the music is between The Great Gig in the Sky and Money, which is between side 1 and side 2 of the vinyl version.
This live performance is actually combining Us and Then and Any Colour You Like.

    THE TRUTH
Been A Zeppelin fan since the 70's.😊
I KNOW all genres. I was the ripe age at the right time for ALL genres..a tennager in the 1980's which was the beginnings of rap. Rap comes from rock n roll believe this or not. My household as a child was all of rock n roll. As a teen in the 80's I had a younger brother that gravitated to rap. Because of him I got into Snoop Dog big time & everything that was hip at the time..absolutely loved! I can say 100% that the rock n roll genre will always be here to stay in my heart deeply. Rap is a genre that can go.I will not miss. I am well rounded in rap. I can say that rock n roll is dear to my heart.🔴

OK, ..I'll add my memory of Dark Side. It was the summer of '73. I had an eight track player in my Ford Pinto. The previous summer my 16 year old brother had been killed in a car accident. Now this summer a 29 year cousin was also killed in a car accident. The funeral was about a two hour drive. One of his sisters, the same age as me, being 25, rode with me to the funeral. I had just gotten the Dark Side tape. We listened to it on the way and neither of us said a word, each in our silent grief. I'm 73 now and remember that ride every time I hear any song from this played. What a band, what an album, what a song.

Here's an earlier version of this song from 1969/1970; back when it was known as "Violent Sequence" and was to have been used in the soundtrack of a 1970 Michelangelo Antonioni film called "Zabrieske Point" but was rejected by the director. The video portion is a photo montage of Pink Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright, who passed away from cancer back in 2008. Enjoy!

BTW, this live performance actually had two songs in it: "Us and Them", but then the funky instrumental "Any Colour You Like".

Rebecca, do something for yourself: pour yourself a glass of good wine, put on your headphones and listen to the whole studio album "The Dark Side of the Moon" from start to finish. In my opinion, it is the best music album of the modern era.
And in fact, you didn't react to one song but to two ("Us and Them" and "Any Color You Like"). That's why it was long. It is seamlessly followed by another ("Brain Damage") and another ...
I'm sorry - I haven't read the posts and I see that you have received similar recommendations several times. But that doesn't change anything ;-).

I love this song so much. One of the few pulse performances where I just prefer the studio version more. I love the sax in the studio version so much.

Now do “Great gig in the sky” (live Delicate sound of thunder) or “On the turning away” (Live Delicate sound of thunder)

Yeah, that 4 album stretch they had from "Dark Side of the Moon" through "The Wall" was unprecedented. No other group has been that consistently great, for that many minutes of music. Must be pretty cold up there in Latvia already. Good thing you're cute as hell, that'll keep you warm.🔥😋

Have you listened to Pink Floyd, Echoes live in Pompeii? That is twenty minutes for each part, and you still want more.

You need to read the lyrics. They are very meaningful. 🙂 I tear up every time I listen to this piece.

I assume you already have tons of suggestions to react to Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb (Live at Pulse '94)". If so, then there is yet another vote for that.

Great reaction video as usual Rebeka, I can't get enough of Pink Floyd. Anyway, one for the list I'd think you'd like, The Story by Runrig, (Scottish Rock Band) Cheers!

Usually lyrics are expressed in words, but with Pink Floyd they are also expressed through music, without the need for lyrics.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, I say that a David Gilmour guitar chord, or Richard Wright's keyboard equals a thousand words, you just have to close your eyes and open your ears to read them.
In (Any Color You Like) the thought behind this song expresses the illusion that man has the power to choose.
At least that's what Roger Waters was thinking while titling this song.

I was going to make a song suggestion that's not Pink Floyd, but after hearing this, probably not a wise idea.

Your reaction's are truly amazing and and a breath of fresh air too watch, thankyou. A hit making band, PF not so much, what they do excell in is the making of stunning concept albums that run to a theme, unique in that regard , The two tracks you reacted too were part of The Dark Side Of The Moon album , the 2nd best album ever recorded after the Beatles that never left the top 200 album chart for 15 years! A 45minute album that should be taken in one sitting!

Actualy is not 4 but 2 different titles; where the synthesizer sets in at 7.33 in this video its no longer "Us and them" but "Any colour you like", best way to listen to this is on the original concept album "Dark Side of the Moon" (1973) and get a good .cue version or singel image so there is no irritating gaps and it its the real PF, with Roger Waters, whos musical genius was the mastermind behind albums like Meddle and the two Masterpiece concept albums Dark Side of the moon and Wish you were here.
