What a great Channel and an amazing video I love the way it looks when you are flying behind the other pilot. Reminiscent of the old dog fight videos. You're definitely on to something because the head tracking seems to make a huge difference in the reality of the experience. Quick question do you actually experienced ground-rush (roller coaster feeling) while diving and flying?? cheers from Texas

For the super budget version I stick an AIO camera on a servo in the cockpit and use the rudder ch to pan left and right. Either a 3 ch plane or I put it on a switch between rudder and camera. Works great. I’ve put it in stuff as small the flight test mighty mini size planes. Nothing fancy but I can look around

Just my 2 cents. But a phone (old or new) has a screen battery and motherboard with gyro (very accurate gyro) built into a small system. We just need someone make a way to be able transmit and receive the data over a long range for this to become the new thing. You can get external cameras for phones though USB so that’s 1 part solved
I think it’ll be a matter of time before it’s an affordable attachment for our phones and planes/drones/helicopters/cars…
Obviously it would require an app as well and I’m sure it’ll become popular if pulled off good enough

This also strikes me, i've been flying FPV since like 2005 and many many years ago i bought a head tracker, in fact two different systems. But i never got ot actually setting up a moving camera setup with head tracking until recently, when i got more free time due to the current events. I had a hard time identifying the systems that i bought years ago and finding manuals for them, as one of them is just 2 black boxes for example. But i did manage to set one of them up and i'm ready for maiden in the next couple of days. While i was identifying my systems and finding manuals for them i found out that there is practicly no headtracking systems available today, while back in the day there was quite a lot of offerings and people bought them. I really wonder why would it die down and why would those offerings cease to exist, not even talking about lack of more modern systems with drawbacks of old systems polished out. This situation is really wierd to me taking into account how much microelectronics have advanced in just the past 10 years, let alone 15.

This would be amazing on my nitro .90 sized warbird, but having to use more channels on top of what my bird can do is a bit of a pain. If whatever company made an all-in-one set that talked with the head tracker both for the FPV signal as well as regular radio for the tracking servos, that would be choice.

I know this stuff ain’t cheap at all, and is very hard to do, but in the future when this becomes relatively inexpensive and somewhat common, imagine doing dogfights with this technology, maybe figure out a way to electronically do it so a plane will register a hit when hit, or make it almost like airsoft in the air

    • @EssentialRC
      @EssentialRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

It's not the propan unit. It's a pilot figure on a servo in the Extra330. You think the air unit has to be in the breeze? There will be some air flow through a hole in the front of the canopy so I doubt it. If it was buried in the fuselage and insulated then maybe.

I think DJI runs on up to 6S but I wouldn't do it! Poor thing will probably overheat. It's a big model so I can easily carry another small 2 cell lipo to power it.

@@EssentialRC on my fpv quads it runs fairly cool even in summer on 6s. I suggest reaching out to some of the fpv companies like Foxeer, Caddx, and fatshark with this video. I can see them wanting to pursue this new trend & as a fpv quad pilot only this makes fixed wing much more appealing.

This is both exciting and frustrating at the same time for me. I have tried to spark interest in headtracking fpv for a couple years now with no luck. I really don't understand why it has never been popular in the mainstream. Everyone says it is amazing but they have no interest in trying it

I REALLY love headtracking but never explored it too far because no one else was interested in it. :( flying alone is no fun.

I don't think FPV has been good enough up until now Dawson. I tried quad and fixed wing FPV few years back and the quality of the video feed to the googles was always crappy. Even when signal was good it looked bad but that was rare. DJI digital is rock solid and will only get better.

Have you got any advice on servos to use? 180 degree 6V servos that are smooth and quick for tilt? fast and smooth 360 degree 6V servos for panning?

I think they were discontinued in hopes that you will buy their goggles instead since the goggles have a headtracker built in lol

so there are no rc plane kits with fpv head tracking on the market?!? i would happily blow hundreds on such a thing. the DJI FPV just came out and my friend and i were tempted to go halfsies on it until we learned it doesn't have head tracking.

No. Sadly not. Fatshark and Quanum discontinued their versions. Can only hope someone brings a new version to the market soon.

It’s like when you first started flying FPV all drones had FPV for free now you have to buy $500 goggles and you can’t fly the mini two with goggles at any cost and there are no apps to do it😂👎🏻. 🤓
