The valve seat I bought was at my local Home Depot. BUT the guy working there had no idea when you buy the replacement kit for the Price Pfister, it does NOT include the valve seat and you must buy it separate. So…….. be on the lookout for that little item in a bag on the hundreds of items on the peg wall at Home Depot. More than likely the employee has NO IDEA what it is, what it’s for, or if they even have it.
bb23, nice vid. I would recommend for anyone with an older house (1830s-1950s) who may have a faucet that has been in place for decades to use a faucet handle puller. These inexpensive tools allow one to remove the faucet handle-that can get nearly "welded" on with age, corrosion/calcification-without applying so much force that it compromises the entire plumbing set behind the wall. While your "tapping it with the handle of a screwdriver" might work many times, there will be those rogue faucets that require a bit more equalized pull from the front. The faucet puller does not strain the plumbing but sure does help yank off the handle.

my cold tap is so corroded I doubt anything would get it off but a puller is a very good suggestion. I heated it with a torch and hammered it but it's really on there so just shows how bad they can get.
Well, I used a Milwaukee cutoff disk to remove my handle ... a series of cuts til I got close to the brass shaft ...
Great video. That nut you mentioned is called a packing nut. Another tip is to apply thread sealant to the new valve seat or a few turns of Teflon tape.

There's a larger round piece at the tip of my stem. The handle will not come off of that. Suggestions?

I got tired of replacing the washers in those types of faucets a few years ago and changed all of them in the house to the washerless, dripless type. (Kitchen is a Peerless, bathroom sink is a Price-Pfister and shower/tub is a Delta) Seems like with that old type that the washers would only last a year or two and need replacing again. The only part I've had to replace in the last 5 years with the new ones is a new sink aerator as we have hard water and the old had clogged up bad and I couldn't even fix it soaking it in CLR, lol. The old shut off valves in this house for the main from the street have the old pot metal handles broken off. I know I need to replace them some day, but I did at least buy a curb key so that I can shut off the water at the meter itself a couple of months ago. Going to need a new water heater in the next year or two as I've gotten to noticing a lot of corrosion on the cast iron inlet where it connects to the tank. Can't complain I guess as the old A.O. Smith heater has lasted well over 20 years now.
We had a washerless faucet in our kitchen up in WA, I never had to service that thing: You've got me thinking about changing over to those in this house. Hmm.
Copy on the AO Smith, ours at the RV Park went from 1986 to 2017. I bet that new one wont have that service life. LOL, Cheers.
My knob was just loose do i need a new Phillips head screw or should I just get two new knobs and tighten them in because nothing's wrong with the hot it's the the cold it you go to turn it and it feels like it's stripped wobble should i just get 2 new faucet handles they just like urs in video will that fix it??? Then my other one is I got a hole in the side of my faucet spout right for a shower attachment to go on the side and that broke off and I can't get that damn piece out of there same diameter will just screw right in the side right ??
Collar nut? Packing nut!!! The washer and seat you replaced stops leaks from your supply line to the spout. I.e., cant turn it off. The washer on the body that you did not replace prevents leaking behind your wall. Not replacing it can cause damage that you may not find until it becomes severe. Floor, wall(s), joist's, drywall, ect. The packing nut, tightens down on a soft material (packing) between the stem and the inner body. It sqeezes this material forcing it to 'hug' the stem to keep the stem from wallowing around and prevents leaking that would run out from your handles into your tub. It usually does not need replacing but maybe an extra turn on the nut would do good. It should cause your handle to turn with a bit of resistance. Not much. Nice video. Well done. Any suggestions on how to remove a stuck on outer collar? It will not loosen by hand or wrench, no screws holding it on anywhere.
Spray with penetrating 🛢 and tap, if stuckvon I'd suggest 1 or 2 days of just spray n tapping b4 even shutting off water and doing the job. To much force with bend your copper water lines behind the wall and then your in trouble. I recommend a pipe wrench and a rubber mallet. Slight taps!! U will be glad u did 😃
The collars on my tub faucets are loose and fall away from the wall. I'm in my 70s. Where do I put the caulk to keep them in place? The piping was replaced this spring and I have had this problem since.
I put the collars on hand tight then put a bead of caulk around the edge of the collar.
What thread size valve seat is this?
What if I don't have the plastic threaded piece inside the collar that attaches to the wall?
You can buy a replacement plastic collar. Mine was gross so I did.
I'm at the point where i have to use the socket. The nut just won't move!! I chipped off any tile part to make sure that i have an easier removal but i can't move it at all. Any suggestions?

May I ask why you don't just replace the whole valve piece since you have it out instead of putting the same one with green corrosion back in? By the way Thank you for the very informative video.
In previous instances I have had to replace the Valve assembly, however these are in good shape and replacement was not needed.
I believe the replacements are made in China anyway, I will stick what works:)

Most of these old taps are so old that it's hard to even get parts anymore so you have to use similar parts and MacGyver everything back together, that's if you can even get them apart in the first place.
Ty for this video. I'll be doing this project soon as the bathtub faucet is leaking but i have a question one you reading this may be able to answer for me. The cold water faucet in the tub is backward meaning that when i want to turn it on, i have turn the faucet to the right instead of the normal left and to turn it off, obvious ly, turn it to the left instead if right. It's just always been that way since i moved into the house years ago. So since I'm going to be attempting to do this same project that u just did in this video, I was thinking that now might be a good time to correct that issue if it's not too complicated for me. Can any of you tell me how please?

@@stevewilliams1197 of course you're right steve except that I'm a 60 year old woman and not accustomed to these type projects at all but I replaced the tower (I think its called) located inside the toilet tank all by myself after watching a few videos on youtube and I changed the battery inside my thermostat as well from a TH-cam video. Completing these 2 projects has given me the inspiration and motivation to at least try to do these on my own and I find it very satisfying. So I'll try the leak and the backward cold water soon. Ty
So I did all this with brand new stems AND seats, and I have a leak out the cold shower handle when turned ON. Any ideas where I went awry?
TBH I would be surprised if you bought the right replacement parts. HD does not stock the correct parts, look for a plumbers supply in your area. (We have a couple in the salt lake city area.)
Most are old school ma&pa shops. Take your old parts in, when the person at the counter says.... ah.price pfister, your at the right place:)
Does the repair help with water pressure?
No. However I have seen chunks of washer material stuck in a faucet. Depends on the faucet design.
idk what to say but, i have water coming out of the base of the faucet, what do i do about that? and its a single handle.
There is a little plastic washer that goes between the stem and the base. Did you check to see if that is missing?
Just did the same exact make. Replaced seats and valve and still have a slight drip what did i do wrong
Sometimes the rubber washer may have to seat and that can take a few days of use. That is if you have the proper valve seat and matching washer. The stem could be warn as well.
Did you have the valve open when you tightened the stem down? Need to do that so the stem seats properly.

Yes, just shut off the water at the main valve coming into your house. I then go throughout the house and turn on all of the faucets to get as much water and pressure out of the lines. That way you will cut down on the water dripping out of the lines your working on.
@@breakerbroke23 We have to call the city Water Authority to shut our water off at the main valve. They come right away, no charge and back out real fast when we are finished!
@@IGotTheWillies there is another valve somewhere. Either basement or a crawl space. Somewhere close to where the main enters your home. No need ro call the water dept. But with that question he may want to just call a plumber

My valve seat is on so tight when i use the tool to remove it it now rounded the valve seat from a square to a circle. How do i get it out now?
While I have been very lucky and never had this happen to me, I would try using an Easy Out Tool like this... amzn.to/3kvgovO I have used easy outs on head bolts and machinery and have had great luck, I just take it slow also a little shot of PB Blaster (optional) may help.... Good luck.
Considering two trips to the store plus the rest of the work I would spend about four hours in the process of screwing this up big time. Then I would hire a plumber and pay him about $500. to fix the original problem plus what I screw up. The other option is I could hire a plumber to fix the current problem and pay him $350.
But I may try it anyway. I assume you must turn of the water at the curb and at the hot water tank.

Someone ie so called professional plumber came fixed my leaky tub faucet . Now the tap only turns a 1/3 of the way up so I get no pressure from the Hot water tap. Guy at hardware store said it could be he put a kitchen one on instead of the bathroom one which only turns a 1/4 of the way . Now how do I know I am getting the right one same as that tool you used to get it out .I don't want to go back 88 times to get the right tool I'm only gonna use once. I figure if a Proffesional can screw it up how will I hurt it , Right?
