Great video. I just want to help other viewers understand that when you replace the shower faucet stem don’t over tighten the faucet to shut off the water. Be gentle because you will damage the rubber washer that pushes up against the valve seat.
I'm also going to add some of these fittings do *NOT* have this manual turn-off. If that's the case, you WILL have to turn off water at your main valve/breaker. It's just the nature of the beast. I will also add the hardest part of this job was just driving around and finding the replacement stems and who actually carries it. If you're replacing older stems, do yourself a favor and do _not_ go to lowes/home depot. They most likely won't carry it. Places like Ace Hardware or a plumbing store such as American Faucets will. A general hardware store MIGHT, but it's a longshot. Average cost is going to be about 30 if it's a modern or normal stem for both cold/hot and the diverter, or up to 100 if it's an older style fitting, which uses a mechanism similar to a diverter. This doesn't factor in replacing the knobs or base, but if they aren't damaged, you shouldn't have to replace them generally.
Thanks for the tutorial....I tightened my diverter valve the first time with the valve in the off position....and hardly any water was coming out of the shower head so I panicked. 😅..... Took it back off..and redid it in the open position and it works good now. 👍
OMG ... a million thumbs up ...I didnt even really need this info.. but I did notice how short and to the point it was... im subscribing for that ALONE
If you have a leak behind the wall even after following the directions, you will probably also need to replace the seats inside the hole (get a t seat wrench). I always do regardless so I don't have to do this process twice. This is the best video that explains how important it is to open the valves before installing. Thanks for the helpful video brother
Thank you for this. I didn't realize the middle was different. I have hot and cold replaced, I just need to exchange this extra cold a get the diverter.
Appreciate it sam, i'm just getting into this myself because the head of my diverter is missing at my rental property and i'm sick of having to go grab the pliers to let my wife take a bath, the threads are stripped on it because of the pliers and i may as well replace the whole thing at this point. Informative and helpful.
This little th-cam.com/users/postUgkxVoi3B4CB6Oygq1-vo4OTL1M_M5JkrXif tub works perfect in our 6 x 6 shower and is easy to get in and out. Also easy to drain.
I have watched several videos this is the first mentioning the stem should be open or on before you tighten. I think this is where I have been messing up. Thanks!
On my case, the rubber seals were messed up., no hardware stores at reach I cutout a little piece of my truck rubber mats, rounder up, put some silicone grease., white tape., and it worked perfectly!.. no leaks!
Quick and to the point. Good video. Would've preferred that the fixtures were also cleaned as part of the production with recommendations provided on cleaning method. Finally, I would have loved a segment on replacing the stem seats, washers and O rings.
You dont need to replace the whole stem, replace both hot and cold seats, and 3/8L washers for stems. If you dont replace the seats its still going to leak.
I'm wondering if I have right video. My set up is similar but the faucet handles will not slide off after loosening the small inset screws. I have the same shutoff set up, and that works. But I'm stuck with stubborn handles. What am I missing here? A puller? I certainly don't want to bust anything.
Thank you for the video. I have 3 knobs Hot ad Cold kobs and a water dispenser to tub and shower in the middle look just like yours. All 3 of them are leaking. How do I know what valve I should because the same Danco parts have different model numbers. Will they all fit and work the same anyway? Thanks for your help in advance.
Have the same cartridge. For some reason the cold handle when I turn it on its hard to turn . You have to turn it couple times to even start a small flow of water. The hot side is fine. Both are brand new cartridges.
Thanks everyone. Is there also plumbers silicone for those washers and also there is a seat inside of there that sometimes need to be replaced it’s a little beveled brass washer inside if you still have problems… Search that on TH-cam that would be the finishing touch… And thank you for posting this helpful video
Hopefully you're still around to maybe answer this. When I want to take a shower and turn the diverter I get a lot of water coming from the tub spout. Is that what I need is a new diverter? Thanks
Thanks alot but i have a new diverter and the old one thats been in there my hardware here in jamaica dont even have washer for it so im about to change all that shower faucets.
Tks a lot bro. Hey if the cold one that I need to replace turns to the right to get the water on ..... Is this because the valve WASNT In the open position when 1st installed ?
Thank you so much for this. Woke up and discovered I can’t access my hot water so after a frigid shower, I’m not in the best of moods. You are a life saver
Any thoughts on what to do if the valve body is seized and the 'tool' socket doesn't budge them? I swear I can't go near plumbing without finding some headache I've never seen in 50 years of doing this stuff. Someday they'll come up with a plumbing robot. It will have 150 years of plumbing experience in its memory banks and even though they programmed it to be polite it will spontaneously begin cussing. Good video.

Yes this would be great. Especially on auto mechanics videos. Sick of the stupid 5 minute intros I’m stuck underneath my f*cking truck right now🤣

@@roetemeteor Thanks for the added advice. Mine do not have the water shutoff. I had assumed that to be the case so thanks for clarifying that for us.
Very good point, as a plumber more people need to know this. Can be a mess if you mess this up.
Tell that to the 5 others in my f***ing house! Lol

This is so beneficial! I was able to replace all 3 shower stems, just the way she taught in the video. Thanks so much!

Thank you for this. I didn't realize the middle was different. I have hot and cold replaced, I just need to exchange this extra cold a get the diverter.

Good idea, Walmart usually sells those gaskets or seals in a pack for like 2 dollars so does Home Depot.
Thank you so much i really needed this video to replace my shower knobs

Awesome video, very helpful.
Short and sweet, thank you
great video !! thank you very much!!😁
Awesome video a true plumber 👍.
Great video thank you, thanks to you the repair was flawless 👍
You dont need to replace the whole stem, replace both hot and cold seats, and 3/8L washers for stems. If you dont replace the seats its still going to leak.
Kick ass great video...Thaaannnks
This was very helpful .
Please put all tools and materials used for this demonstration down to the last detail!! 😊 Thanks
This is cool. I didn't know about that tool, or the shutoff valves!
You saved me 700$ thanks man!!!!

Definitely helpful.
Pfister and many others honor lifetime warranty on these parts. They just sent me free replacements, and they were existing when I purchased my house!
Have the same cartridge.

Thanks for the video 👍🏻
Good one thank a lot. Big help. !!
Very very helpful thank you very much
Thank you for helping me DIYS. If the sleev, catrige is tight to open, is it ok to use a hammer to losen it ? Will this cause more damage?
Do you need to know what brand of faucet it is or the kits universal?

Thank u brother same your badass love it
I need to replace the white hard plastic part you see when you twist the knobs off. Do you know what those are called by chance?
Does the stem have a part number so you know what to replace it with?
That’s the tool called and can you switch to different types of cartridges, from threaded to the ones with the similar-circles?
Is the diverter valve different cartridge than the others or all three stems the same
All this is great but....how do I know wich model to buy ? is all those fittings universale ? Fits all ? Thanks.
Should the Step on 'twisting the cartridge off' easy? ....mine seam a lil hard, I can do it, but dont want to break it. Please advise.
Excellent thanks
Thank you sir 🙏🏽
Thank you sir
ty awesome vid!!!!!!
Great! Thank you!
I have a moen three handle shower faucet. I can’t get the wall tube off!! Any ideas? I can’t even get to the cartridge.
I didn't see you replace the brass seats. Were they still good?
So I need to add any adhesives so the water won’t go through the wall?
Could anyone explain how you know if it’s in open position vs closed i under the concept but I don’t totally understand how to do it
The 21/32 socket I purchased doesn't fit. Any suggestions?
Thank you Lovebug
One question how do you know the size of the actual handle to replace it
Do I need to change the seat too? Probably not?
What about the brass seat attached to line going to main city pressure/hot water heater?
I was thinking the same thing
Any thoughts on what to do if the valve body is seized and the 'tool' socket doesn't budge them? Cant find 11" replacement valve body
I saw another video (3 handle) and the guy turned off the water from the main water valve. Is that necessary?
Excellent video, thanks!
How do I know what brand of cartridges I need for the diverter?
What about changing the, 'race' inside? I did the same exact fix but water is leaking out the cold valve now?
Do they all have that shut off screw under the stem?
Thanks mate!
For which brand are those for?
When we fix the water pressure do we need to turn the water off from outside
