An incredible social statement that still resonates today...where you live might not be perfect in many ways, but it's home and has shaped the person you've become.
Alan Shields Scotland. I was in high school when this song was released second year it would of been. For decades I could remember the song but not the name of the song or the name of the band then a few years ago I found it on my You Tube feed. It came back in to my mind this morning & I thought I will give it a listen it's such a great song. I remember Space sing the song on Top of The Pops , The band being on Soccer AM promoting it & on one of the terrestrial channels on a Saturday morning in 1996 I think it was some chart show on a Saturday morning but I cant remember the name of the chart show. I am not massively in to music but some songs like this just jump out to me. We had some great bands in the U.K. in the 80's & 90's the last U.K bands I actually liked where Kasabian ,The Kaizer Chiefs & Razerlight. Music in general has went so downhill in recent times everything is so heavy manufacturered music wise now you dont get bands like Space, Oasis & Blur now it's all just utter guff music wise now.
You gotta be putting us on! - The '90's was when the charts were wall - to - wall boy bands, complete with _perfect_ hair, toothpaste - ad. teeth and cobalt - blue contact lenses. Y'know - Take That, N'Sync, Boyzone, Westlife, Back -Door- *>`koff!‘
We're in the era of 'music' by diseased minions with white teeth, gravy face, massive eyelashes and songs written by 10 people... and they're absolute canine faecal matter 💩💩💩. Take me back to the 90's... *NOW!*
A brilliant classic timeless tune that is also quite haunting. During this isolation lockdown for some reason it just popped into my head so I had to listen to it again.
"Oh they want to knock us down 'cause they think we're scum But we will all be waiting When the bulldozers come In a neighbourhood like this you know It's hard to survive So you'd better come prepared 'cause they won't take us alive" 👌🏼👍🏼👏🏼
I once saw Tommy in Tesco buying a scotch egg (reduced), a pack of 10 slices of wafer thin ham and a cookie shaped like a bear but the leg had snapped off (reduced). When I said hello to him, he hissed at me and ran out of the shop :/
Brilliant band, producing music at a time of the britpop era when Britain had an absolute abundance of talent in the music scene. We were at uni having the time of our lives when this was out.
I remember seeing this song on tv over 20 years ago. I loved this song so much brilliant. Got to see space at cofton Park, by longbridge. I was right at front when they came on such a brilliant band.
It was actually a bigger hit than its better-remembered predecessor Female Of The Species... Neighbourhood was a #11 hit; despite the insane amount of exposure on TV shows / adverts, radio airplay and video rotation it got, Female Of The Species only reached #14
Loved Space, brilliant lyrics, brilliant band.. Had our only child Caitlin.. 16th September 1998,now SHE plays this as well as me.. Space should have been massive....x
There was a gangster down here who's last name was Miller and he was known for getting people with his stun gun called Frank zapper, or just Frank for short and this verse would often get adapted to him!
jolly we tune with very dark lyrics , i so love this band. i love the sence of humour and this is the polar opposite as the homogenized music we get in the charts now.
This song always reminds me off doing my first and only sentence 🤞🏼. Partly because every cell (Peter) had a different character in it and partly because off the attitude off everyone there. “They want to knock us down cos they think we’re scum, but we will all be waiting when the bulldozers come” and “in a neighbourhood like this you know you’ve got to survive, cos when they come they’ll never take us alive”. Ah, 🤔 what a hole those places are.
Give me this song and era anytime over today’s music
Very true my friend
So so true

I smell a lot of underappreciated talent
You smell a lot
Anyone else listening to this in 2024? So happy I rediscovered this one!
It has a great positive vibe.
Rediscovered???? YOU CRETIN!!! You should be listening to this daily! Morning, noon, night and everywhere in-between! Lot's of love, Mr Miller 🥸🔪🩸x
😂 lots of love Mr Miller
had it on every day lately
I never forgot it. Brilliant song.
This is absolute brilliance
Always 90's, I really miss those days, great song of my beloved 90's
An incredible social statement that still resonates today...where you live might not be perfect in many ways, but it's home and has shaped the person you've become.
THESE GUYS are brilliant !!!! This is STILL FRESH in 2024 Thank You!
Loved this song since released, but not heard in a long time. Now sitting in the pub and just comes on....such underated song with genius lyrics
Reminded me a little of Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas. Brilliant lyrics far from the pap pop, auto tuned rubbish we have to endure.
Im 71 and still love this song x
I'm from Indonesia, I always play this song in the car, it was 1997 in a classic 1969 Fiat car
I love it!
There was some talent in the UK in the 90's. Genius band.
It all came from manchester or liverpool its good to be a manc 😁👌
bigfish74f they’re a Liverpool group but still very good
These guys are Welsh!!!
@@clairefox4640 they're definitely Scousers!!
@@clairefox4640 Are you thinking of the Stereos? Because last time I checked, Liverpool was NOT in Wales! 🤦♀️
I've just discovered this gem of a track 23 years later how is that even possible. ah well better late than never
"it's alright" - supergrass
Is fantastic too.. Ah.. Those good old days
it’s because the Spice Girls dominated the pop scene 96 to 97
You have been saved. Check out me n you vs the world and the female of the species. Both epic tunes done by this band
I discovered 24 years late...🤔🤔
I used to love this song (and still do!!) nobody likes it at the time. I always thought it was great!!

I have to agree with you we had such great band's music was the best in 90's early 2000's wtf has gone wrong
Forgot about Space for the longest time, used to love sitting in my bedroom listening to this album on cassette. Great album.
This song could go on for hours and I still would listen to the whole thing
This song is 22 years old.
And still sounds good to me, it would actually fit as a record for today should it ever be remastered and re-released
Absolutely!
Agree this song should b re- released.
It’s a lot better than any song you will find today
I totally agree. This song has a timeless feel to it and also an almost kind of haunting type song - similar in way to Golden Brown by the Stranglers
It was.
Absolutely great to hear this song brilliant.
Top band, great lyrics & unique sound that seems to come out of Liverpool.
You can come again my friend 😊👍
A melodic tribute to dysfunction. Outstanding!
Amazing song, one of my favorites . Such a underrated group
I agree their still knocking out brill songs. And there amazing live, a bit grey but aren't we all 😂
The days when teeth and looks hadn't completely taken over the charts.
Awesome track
We are kind of getting back to that, look at Adele who signed when she was chubby.
@@NoobFLProducer yeah and Ed Sheeran- who could be Space’s ginger dude’s son they look a bit similar.

Space...such an underrated band, I always liked their music.
Loved it when it was released and still listening 24 years later. Such a great song
Same, I'm 41 and bought the CD when it came out. This was always my favourite
Great band very underrated like most of the northern bands of that time northside etc
Now 90s brought me here. The late 90s didn't bring me happiness, but songs like this did.
They had a totally unique sound.
yes
One of my favorite songs ever. I still have the album somewhere
One of the best liryc ever made in the past years in uk. Stunning song !
Heard it on radio today, not heard it in at least 10 years n still remembered lyrics. So a catchy song
Was it on absolute radio by any chance? 😋
This is a brilliant song, haven't heard it in years.
If only there was a way to listen to what you want to..........
This song just randomly came into my mind, great song.

wicked tune good memories
They’re one of the best bands of their era - I’m sad but at the same time they’re so underrated, only the coolest avenging angels listen to Space. 😜
They really blew it when they declared support for the National Front
Saw Space in Exmouth, brilliant 👏 they took the house down
Was 17
Now 43 and still love it
Superb song, superb band

Reached #11 in 1996
This was a bloody tune lol I've only just realised how good it is.
These guys were good!
I worked in a music store in high school. 97-99 This was a promo nobody liked and has had heavy rotation in my life since. Love the whole thing.

God, it brings back memories! Wonderful, ironic witty and funny song, with quite a political sting. Thanks, Space!
What a song!!
Knew all the lyrics at 6. Dad was a massive fan. How his song wasn’t any bigger I will never understand.
My dad gave me the album when I was around 6, listening to all the songs upstairs haha!!

That line 'In 666 there is a mr Miller, he's our local vicar and a serial killer' is classic! 😆
Writes good comics too...

In 999 they make a living from crime
The house is always empty cause they’re all doing time 😂😂

I remember back in 1997 listening to this album....😂❤️
