The fact that they not only did the full song itself, but both parodied and kept faith to Michael's style while pointing out they're nowhere near as smooth a mover as him and they mocked themselves in their janky dances - while giving winks nods and clues to the style of showmanship that Michael did - is my absolute favourite part of all this, there's no part thats not done with love and humour at the same time.

One of the BEST covers i ever heard on any genre, both musically and vocally, simply a perfect true cover and not only the same song played by others. And the video is brilliant and funny.
Someone on twitter had the nerve to say this song was a gentrification of the original. Naw fam. A lot of black people was rocking out to this... Including myself!!! This cover still go hard af!!
I remember listening to this on a huge stereo I got for Christmas. And I was playing grand theft auto 3 for the first time. Everything was right with the world. If only I could go back.
One of the few covers of songs that I love as much as the original because the artist makes it their own. It’s truly a pleasure to watch these guys perform, because how they bring the music to life.
I think they didn't get enough support from their label. They should have been featured on more films and promotions to get their name out there. The band and their songs were solid gold, but they didn't quite fit with the nu-metal of the time. They should have been pushed toward the indie/alternative scene circles.
@EmperorOfFresno - I was born in '85 and i've always said there was something magical from 1999-2002. I would discover 2-3 amazing bands every week in those few years and I never dreamed how depressing pop culture would become after that. Movies, music, video games, sports, comics, toys, and society in general all went straight down.
Anyone know how to get that tone on guitar? It reminds me of Dime but it's clearly a marshall. What kind of pedals or eq curve would I need to replicate this?
If you're going to cover a masterpiece you should make it your own...and you better do a good job while you're at it ! These guys knocked it out of the park ! Superb version of this song, superb music video to accompany it !
One of the greatest covers of all time. This is how you keep the feeling of an original & make it your own. Hard to believe I was turning 12 when this came out. I was already a Michael Jackson fan at the time, so this blew my mind. Still does, honestly.
My older brother was a teenager in the early 2000s and he used to blast this my entire childhood. Everything about the band, the vocals, the guitar riffs, the drums; everything is so impactful and I still listen to this constantly, right now in my 20s lol
Back when punk/grunge bands were actually punk/grunge that didn't give a sh*t about hurting feelings or being mainstream and just wanted to make good music.
@@mattmec85 people were saying the same thing about 80s rock when this song came out. And people will say the same thing about current music in 20 years.

When I first heard this song, I never knew it was a cover and just assumed these guys were the original artist. Years ago when I mentioned this song to my friend she was like, "You do know this is a Michael Jackson song, right?". Turns out neither of us had heard of the other version of this song and I learnt that even covers can become popular.
This was a pretty popular song when Michael Jackson first did it. I don't know how old you are but a generation can change your perception based on when you first hear a song I suppose.
@Josh Carpenter Huh, well I knew a few songs Michael Jackson did, but for some reason not this one. That sure is a lot of hits, but I still prefer this version of the song. Though that's probably cause I heard this version first xD I guess a generation can, I'm in my mid 20s and to be honest I only ever really listened to rock/metal when I was younger.
There are plenty of covers that are as popular or more popular than the original songs. "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails, covered by Johnny Cash "Hey Joe" by Billy Roberts, covered by Jimi Hendrix "All Along the Watch Tower" by Bob Dylan, covered by Jimi Hendrix "Respect" by Otis Redding, covered by Aretha Franklin "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" by the Arrows, covered by Joan Jett "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen, covered by Jeff Buckley "Killing Me Softly with His Song" by Charles Fox and Normal Gimbel, covered by The Fugees Those are just a few of many, many such songs.
Yes !!! And even more so if you were in your 20s when this song came out & got to see them perform it live several times ...it was a great time to be young and carefree ❤
Nice. Kind of sad how far they slid later though. Last time they were in my city they played in a large bar where no one knew them except a few fans who normally avoided the bar. Now the bar is a church. Weird how things go.
This band gives this song, so much power. When they change keys, and launch into the pre-chorus, "Annie are you okay?", It makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up...
I always come back to this song and music video whenever I'm feeling down. It's an instant pickup. Very well done. I feel a real connection to this band in this song.

He didn’t go to school, he had a tutor. He didn’t choose to catch his hair on fire leaving third degree burns, which led to painkillers. He didn’t ask to have vitiligo and lupus.

Best cover ever. All the elements are there including an original spin. They did it with a true artists masterful touch
What a sick cover. Kid with the moves is still as slick today as it was back then. Great video.

One of the few covers of songs that I love as much as the original because the artist makes it their own. It’s truly a pleasure to watch these guys perform, because how they bring the music to life.
Totally agreed - they really made it their own.
Better than the original no disrespect to Michael
definitely not better than the original though, the guitar dont fit with the annie part while michaels whole song fit with the lyrics amazingly well
and the vocals are just not fit for the song with the accent so although this is remarkable, it is not better.
and calling a song that took the lyrics and remade it better than the original is a bit shameful.
That heavy guitar riff is absolutely sick!
Alien Ant Farm did a legendary job. Covered Michael Jackson and transformed the original from pop/R&B to nu metal/alternative metal
Very sick
Ну не такой и тяжелый
dude the bass part is so fun to play too!
I don't know if you mean the solo or even the few seconds before the solo , but the way they rephrased the solo is so fresh

Alien Ant Farm was trending on Twitter tonight. So here i am to see this Gem all over again. Been such a long time. Nostalgia is a powerful force.

Never said it was the original, i know about Michael Jackson's song, along with his other hits. I mean the video being the gem, not the song.
The whole album was a master piece....bassist and the drummer were on fire thru and thru
I've always felt that way about Presidents of the United States of America's first album...so excellent
I think they didn't get enough support from their label. They should have been featured on more films and promotions to get their name out there. The band and their songs were solid gold, but they didn't quite fit with the nu-metal of the time. They should have been pushed toward the indie/alternative scene circles.
I was in 8th grade when the album came out and I asked my dad to buy it for me. He said no because I wouldn't like it. Still never listened to it.
That sounds painful.

When I first heard this song, I never knew it was a cover and just assumed these guys were the original artist. Years ago when I mentioned this song to my friend she was like, "You do know this is a Michael Jackson song, right?". Turns out neither of us had heard of the other version of this song and I learnt that even covers can become popular.
This was a pretty popular song when Michael Jackson first did it. I don't know how old you are but a generation can change your perception based on when you first hear a song I suppose.
BTW I just looked after I posted that comment. Original song has over 600 million hits as of 09/24/21
So basically u didn't know who Michael Jackson was 🤣😂
@Josh Carpenter Huh, well I knew a few songs Michael Jackson did, but for some reason not this one.
"Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails, covered by Johnny Cash
"Hey Joe" by Billy Roberts, covered by Jimi Hendrix
"All Along the Watch Tower" by Bob Dylan, covered by Jimi Hendrix
"Respect" by Otis Redding, covered by Aretha Franklin
"I Love Rock 'n' Roll" by the Arrows, covered by Joan Jett
"Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen, covered by Jeff Buckley
"Killing Me Softly with His Song" by Charles Fox and Normal Gimbel, covered by The Fugees
Those are just a few of many, many such songs.
The bassist had no right looking so rad the entire time.
