I used to love Space back in the late 90's as well as Catatonia. I remember when I first heard this song. It was epic back then and still is now in my opinion.
they are still very nice comparing to what they have out there nowadays. the dont make good stupid nice songs like such anymore. hey there. live long and prosper bro.
ppl were into heavier stuff then, mostly stuff like foo fighters and soundgarden. back in the day only hardcore stoner kids listens to such stuff. i dunno if those poppy yuppies listen to this or not, only weird people knows and listen to this. i think it is the same in America too. its just too weird for some.
Sometimes I find myself singing “I have never thrown my knickers at you.....and I don’t come from Wales” randomly when I’m just walking about the house
I saw them at the old courts in wigan in 2019 and I will see them there and in hull and maybe some other places this year. They are brilliant. I have liked their music since I was 12 years old in 1996.
Just wanted to add that there is a video of space performing this at the old courts in wigan in 2019 and someone throws some knickers at tommy and the band stop singing the song and start again and then someone throws knickers at tommy again and they get stuck to tommy's guitar and he carries on playing. It's very funny.
Dito, I'm from North Wales, and I have been trying to find out if anyone knows what the lyrics mean for 31 years, can you please explain what the lyrics mean because I'm Welsh and I haven't got a clue what this song is about?! I was going to call the marriage guidance to see if they could Help! but my boyfriend tied the phone line round my neck!?
*Lyrics* What did I do wrong? Oh you nearly drove me cuckoo Am I really all that bad? You're worse than Hannibal Lecter, Charlie Manson, Freddie Krueger Why are we still together? Oh I can't leave until you're dead You mean till death do us part? I mean like cyanide, strangulation or an axe to your head It was lucky for us I turned the radio on They say that music soothes the savage beast There was something in that voice that stopped us seeing red The two of us would surely have ended up dead You stopped us from killing each other Tom Jones, Tom Jones You'll never know but you saved our lives Tom Jones, Tom Jones I could never throw my knickers at you And I don't come from Wales So haven't solved our problems You mean we hate each other's guts I still wanna poison your pizza And I still wanna cut off your nuts I phoned the marriage guidance I tied the phone line round your neck I'm sick of all this hatred Well that will be the arsenic making you sick You were about to drive me over the edge of a cliff As I tried to jump out I knocked the stereo on You changed your mind and then slammed on the brakes It was lucky for us we bought his greatest hits You stopped us from killing each other Tom Jones, Tom Jones You'll never know but you saved our lives Tom Jones, Tom Jones I could never throw my knickers at you And I don't come from Wales And now the war is over I've lost the urge to break your neck I owe my life to What's New Pussycat Delilah stopped me hating you and wishing you dead Oh I used to call you Satan And you were Cruella De'Ville And now you call me your Delilah And I am not your Lucifer And I am just your pussycat But just a word of warning now Just in case we ever get tired of his voice I know the Mafia, Godzilla, King Kong And I know an atom bomb that's going for a song You stopped us from killing each other Tom Jones, Tom Jones You'll never know but you saved our lives Tom Jones, Tom Jones I could never throw my knickers at you And I don't come from Wales You stopped us from killing each other Tom Jones, Tom Jones You'll never know but you saved our lives Tom Jones, Tom Jones I could never throw my knickers at you And I don't come from Wales
Think your reading way too much into the song!!! This is a fab dark but funny at the same time. Both Cerys n tommy's vocals are on form here classic 90s tune!!!!!!?
Last heard this song when I was 17! I’m now 41. Been trying to find this song FOREVER and it started playing on my sisters playlist while on her canal boat! Almost fell off with excitement! Teenage MEMORIES returned!
oh come on man. please don't remind me. gosh i am 7 olders than u. its been a long day of working under the sun putting up a good show, done everything and sneaked a joint while listening to this and forgot everything. i was enjoying the comments until i read urs that snapped me out of it reminding me that i am not 22 anymore. LOL God. when am i going to grow up. LOLOL all the best there. cheers!
Just saw this on TOTP 2. Haven’t heard this since 2000. Just listening to this both elates me and depresses me, elates me in that it is a song that always made me happy, but depresses me in that not not only will something like this never come again, but also how great the 90s truly were. The 21st century for the most part has truly sucked.
That line was directed at Tom Jones to follow her "i would never throw my knickers at you" which was also directed at Tom Jones because back in the day at concerts women used to throw their knickers on stage. They're appreciative of him despite Space not being welsh and Cerys not excited enough to throw her knickers at him.

Practically no-one mentions the genius of Tommy Scott and Space. They wrote the song. Tommy Scott is deserving to be mentioned just as much (or more) as Lee Mavers from The La's is. What a great creator of mood Scott is. Classic quirky romantic Liverpudlian.
Amazing band! Sophisti-pop was already fading fast from the charts towards the end of the 90s, today it is almost non-existent, following the general dumbing down of society. You really have to dig deep these days...
Damn right, been listening to them all day today and it really hit me how much of a great songwriter he is, I think people struggle to appreciate wry lyrics and well written music as though they're mutually exclusive. but you've hit the nail on the head, he creates mood, and even the twiddly excesses of 90's production can't ruin them. I think it's aged better than lots, mainly because he knows how to write a bridge and a chorus.
Unreal lyrics. Unreal melody. Brill8ant vocals. Video is so clever to tie in to the song too. Massively under-rated tune ❤
The writer had the best sense of humour all the songs cracked me up. Space were on another planet.
They were out of this world !
They were way ahead of their time. Light years, in fact! 🥁
"Neighbourhood" is an amazing song!
I used to love Space back in the late 90's as well as Catatonia. I remember when I first heard this song. It was epic back then and still is now in my opinion.

hey there.
live long and prosper bro.
WHY WHY was this never played or promoted in America! LOVE THIS!
ppl were into heavier stuff then, mostly stuff like foo fighters and soundgarden.
back in the day only hardcore stoner kids listens to such stuff.
i dunno if those poppy yuppies listen to this or not, only weird people knows and listen to this.
i think it is the same in America too.
its just too weird for some.
Space are playing in my hometown in January and my guitar teacher and his band are supporting them. Definitely need to go and see that!
And did you go in the end.
Ahhh... my tune for Valentine's Day!
OMG I've been trying to re-find this song for years on and off!!! Love it.
Sometimes I find myself singing “I have never thrown my knickers at you.....and I don’t come from Wales” randomly when I’m just walking about the house
lmao my god i thought it was just me that did that, lol
How did you know I did the same - but in my car !
lol, i sing it aloud on the street, thats why they locked me up
It's the rasp in her voice that gets me but I'm not here to judge.. pretty good track hey
Saaaaame 🤣🤣🤣
Я искал её 5 дней, не зная ни названия, ни слов песни, ни исполнителя! И в итоге Ютуб сам нашёл этот клип и порекомендовал! Я в шоке!
Two distinct voices for sure from two great bands.☺️😊🙂
i love her voice
Great and clever lyrics,tremendous
Forgot how good this song is..heard it last week on absolute radio 90’s
Forgot this song even existed. Genius
I’ve been looking for it for ages I even forgot the name
Peaked at #4 in U.K. on 1 March 1998
Gota love her voice.
What a great song. My 7 year old loves it as well. Tom Jones, Tom Jones.
Cerys is a treasure
Just heard this on the radio. Forgot all about this tune. Top stuff. Long live the 90s!
Ah the memories! I was 14 years old!
Reminds me of being a kid haha my dad always played it in the car lol
Love this track
Good tune ..Space write some funny songs ...Beautiful neighbourhood is one of my all time favourite tracks
I still have their album Spiders knocking around somewhere, I'll have to dig it out.
Saw Space at the Southampton guildhall back in the day, and they done this song but she was on a giant screen behind the band. Great stuff!
I saw them at the old courts in wigan in 2019 and I will see them there and in hull and maybe some other places this year. They are brilliant. I have liked their music since I was 12 years old in 1996.

My boyfriend is from North Wales and this song we both can totally relate to 😉

This song means a lot to me. Amazing times
one of my favourite songs ever
They don't write em like this anymore!
These songs are real genius the chord progressions are just incredible and instrumentation is so progressive.
Proper tune. They don't make them like this anymore 😕
I saw these last year at Stockton Calling it was a awesome set.
I think this is a great song still.I think Tommy and Cerys both had very distinct voices too.☺️
Class
I do come from Wales
OMG I've been looking for this song for ages
Me too, I knew it was Cerys Matthews.. but couldn't remember the band..
Big Tommy Scott crush back in the day
Space Are a Criminally underrated band
Horrible time for me when this was around 😢
Belter of a song hilarious and genius!
Used to love Space lyrics. Had a mixture of working class humour and tragic fatality.
this is such a weird ass song but its pretty dangus addictive i gotta say
Just watched Space live in Worthing, fantastic gig. Lovely nod to Cerys about never ageing when they play this now
great tune but so funny genius
I didn’t realise how many hilariously dark verses were in this song when I was a kid in the 90s.
I am so, so glad Space came back. Cerys is boss too.
why am i just learning about this band T ^ T
:((( youth memories
I remember listening to this in geography on the radio
*Lyrics*
What did I do wrong?
Oh you nearly drove me cuckoo
Am I really all that bad?
You're worse than Hannibal Lecter, Charlie Manson, Freddie Krueger
Why are we still together?
Oh I can't leave until you're dead
You mean till death do us part?
I mean like cyanide, strangulation or an axe to your head
It was lucky for us I turned the radio on
They say that music soothes the savage beast
There was something in that voice that stopped us seeing red
The two of us would surely have ended up dead
You stopped us from killing each other
Tom Jones, Tom Jones
You'll never know but you saved our lives
Tom Jones, Tom Jones
I could never throw my knickers at you
And I don't come from Wales
So haven't solved our problems
You mean we hate each other's guts
I still wanna poison your pizza
And I still wanna cut off your nuts
I phoned the marriage guidance
I tied the phone line round your neck
I'm sick of all this hatred
Well that will be the arsenic making you sick
You were about to drive me over the edge of a cliff
As I tried to jump out I knocked the stereo on
You changed your mind and then slammed on the brakes
It was lucky for us we bought his greatest hits
You stopped us from killing each other
Tom Jones, Tom Jones
You'll never know but you saved our lives
Tom Jones, Tom Jones
I could never throw my knickers at you
And I don't come from Wales
And now the war is over
I've lost the urge to break your neck
I owe my life to What's New Pussycat
Delilah stopped me hating you and wishing you dead
Oh I used to call you Satan
And you were Cruella De'Ville
And now you call me your Delilah
And I am not your Lucifer
And I am just your pussycat
But just a word of warning now
Just in case we ever get tired of his voice
I know the Mafia, Godzilla, King Kong
And I know an atom bomb that's going for a song
You stopped us from killing each other
Tom Jones, Tom Jones
You'll never know but you saved our lives
Tom Jones, Tom Jones
I could never throw my knickers at you
And I don't come from Wales
You stopped us from killing each other
Tom Jones, Tom Jones
You'll never know but you saved our lives
Tom Jones, Tom Jones
I could never throw my knickers at you
And I don't come from Wales
From the position of that car I'd say this song would be a sequel to Road Rage
😀❤Brilliant
Listened to this when I was in Uni and I still don't get the lyrics .... But the tune always sticks in my head lol😂
Think your reading way too much into the song!!! This is a fab dark but funny at the same time. Both Cerys n tommy's vocals are on form here classic 90s tune!!!!!!?
Brilliant song, so weird.. it's classic ❤️
Classic
Top song , top bird !!!!
Yeah that takes me back to the nineties and British people are so zaney you have to love them
gosh, how did i love this song and still do. one of the best love/hate songs for my wife and me after 30 yrs avoiding killing each other...
it took me shamefully long to realise the backing vocals in the chorus were saying "tom jones, tom jones..."
Like 'City Boy' gone mambo. Great storytellers. tfs
-or 'Meatloaf' ...with a British accent...
I'm not from Wales too
I am. Wales is a lot cooler than people think it is!
Me Either
The Plastic Paddy / I'm from Wales and I'd love to Caress Cerys XXXX

Can you please state featuring cerys Matthew's cos this isnt just space thanks
They shouldn’t have to, you’re being a bit petty
It's over
"i owe my life to whats new pussycat!" awesome line
''I wouldn't throw my skiddy knickers at you.''
You can smell the radios smugness as its outlived MTV
This reminds me of my boyfriend as I’d just got back with him for a second time.
I'm not from Wales either
Unlucky dude
What happened to space they were amazin
we threw a car at them
That "I am just a pussy cat" Nostalgia. Damn!

Forever young ✌️
I had completely forgotten about this song, I’ve just heard it on the radio for first in 25 years. ❤
Vernon Kay Radio 2? That's exactly my story! How do we forget these great songs? Why do they fall off our radar?
@@joshtheatmosphereean7079 Yes that’s exactly where I heard it 👍
YEY !
Ain't it just the best XX
Same apart from the radio
Just saw this on TOTP 2. Haven’t heard this since 2000. Just listening to this both elates me and depresses me, elates me in that it is a song that always made me happy, but depresses me in that not not only will something like this never come again, but also how great the 90s truly were. Time for a shuffle 👋 x in the future ❤ 👌 and I hope you're ok
I know at least we have the memories TOMMY AND CERYS AMAZING
I’ve been sad and depressed since 1470
I don't reminisce about anything past the year 2000
Fuck i miss the 90s!!
Me too, so much!
Mike Ludden the 90s were awesome (apart from school)
Melody wise, this is a masterpiece! The chord sequence leading to the chorus is just fkn perfect 👌.. brings a tear to me eye, love it
i dont know man i love the lyrics, they don't write lyrics like this anymore.
@@MrNajibrazak I hear ya … lyrics are razor sharp and they’re sung with feeling too
👍🏴
"...and I don't come from Wales."
Prambors
wools mate
I remember this song. Tom Jones must have been touched by this song.
I know this about Tom Jones, but I think the line ‘and I don’t come from Wales’ directed at Cerys Matthews is hilarious 😂

They shoulda been huge!
brilliant - but not a mavers. sorry.

So true, a brilliant band
My Dad's name is Tom Jones. Fact. He's stopped my girlfriend and I from killing each other on numerous occasions
Is that profile pic from Manhunter?
Callum Sutherland The tooth Fairy
I really like that!
So you must be Andy Jones
Jack imo
Cerys was such a badass, brilliant voice too. I loved Space & Catatonia, brilliant era for music in the UK.
This is one of those songs I spend a lot of time wondering ‘were those actually the lyrics?’
Yes. Yes they were
Oh god yes, forgot how much I loved that hollering of "I've never thrown my knickers at you!" 😁
Saw him live in a tiny bar outside Leeds last night and he was fab. Sweet, nervy, funny and with some great new songs.
It was lucky for us we had his Greatest hits...
