Takes me back to 1996. I just finished Air Force Basic Training. I was waiting for a Greyhound Bus to take me to the airport for my first assignment. This song came on the MTV late night programming. The energy and pulse the song gave me, overcame my apprehension. Turned my anxiety to anticipation. Thanks Republica and MTV. I needed that jolt and i will never lose that connection to this song.

Crazy how many female singers were on the Rock scene in the 90s. The Breeders, Veruca Salt, Luscious Jackson, Garbage, Alanis Morrissette, Hole, No Doubt, Portishead, Mazzy Star, Elastica, Sheryl Crow, Liz Phair, Fiona Apple, Letters to Cleo, Tory Amos... Way too good.
It was huge then. There is still a heap of female singers with songs out now but much less sound like they are fronting bands rather are just laying down vocals for a song put together by some producer.
@@smathers3104 And yet not a single one of today's productions can hold a candle to Massive Attack's "Teardrop" from 1998 or Mono's "Life in Mono" from 1996, which are female singers laying down vocals for a song by a producer. @Jennifer Alvarado And that doesn't even include all the riot grrl bands from Bikini Kill down to Sleater-Kinney.
Awesome
The cardigans, The Cranberries, Skunk Anansie, Tracy Bonham, Meredith Brooks...

This is the most 90s thing ever to occur, and it is excellent. I feel bad for those who may have had seizures after watching this.
I had one because of the damn camera man
There's something just so authentically 90's about this song, Can't really explain it. It's perfect in every retrospect.
It holds up today cause it’s not some cheesy pop hit like many songs from a specific eras.
brit pop, cool britannia era, loved it back then
I feel the 90s was the last decade for widespread harnessed individualistic creativity. The 2000's came in with bands created. Music written and lyrics generated for a pretty face.
It’s 1990’s Gen-X haughty, overconfidence.
Authenticity and enjoying rock performing

ARMS DOWN. HEAD BACK. AND HOLD ON
Saffron is 48 years old now. It's a stark reminder that your youth is nothing but a fleeting moment in time. It's important to take full advantage of your prime years. I'm 35, and when I look back at this time in my life, it almost seems so far back that it was nothing but a dream, or that it never actually happened. It's truly amazing how fast time passes.
That's freaking scary, it's starting to feel that way for me :( turning 30 soonish. Time never went this fast growing up
dude I'm already feeling like depressed about turning 28 next february and now I feel like killing myself 😟 I guess the only thing we can do it's trying to make the best we can day by day 😐
35 also, and even memories of the comparative 24/7 party event that being 30 was brings me to genuine tears sometimes.
Shaun Daskam hey wait til you turn 50+ and you lose all of your compatriots--Leon Russell, 2/3 of ELP, your precious dad,Prince, David Bowie,George Michael, pretty much every one you grew up with; makes you feel really lost.

I agree
I Graduated Highschool in ‘95. I was a little envious of the people a little older then me because they had the iconic 80’s stuff. The older I get, the more I realize the 90’s were AWSOME!
I graduated in 85 and yes the 80's music was awesome. Most of it anyway. But I grew to respect and enjoy the 90's.
This song has balls and longevity
This song HAS aged very well! Sounds like it came out yesterday,

It’s too optimistic for the current era. Perfectly grabs the millennial optimism of the era, even when talking about painful topics, and would only serve as a type of irony when used in a TikTok or meme now.
No it does not. Have you heard modern music? Sounds nothing like it.
Saffron’s singing is the most perfect mix of punk and pop ever! Her performing style is awesome too! The guitar work of Jonny Male and synth work of Tim Dorney is inspiring too!

@@davidg.9932 Yes I found out when I looked up the names of the band members. He is older than the singers in both Republica and Bow Wow Wow. In photos & performances of Bow Wow Wow he was hiding behind the others so I didn't take much notice of him at the time. On Top of the Pops the camera would be only on him for a split second or he would appear when the camera panned out. Bow Wow Wow was created by Malcolm McLaren out of Adam and The Ants so the latter had to find replacements.
If you are reading this, do yourself a favor and listen to this album. Not a single skip, Republica really did one of the best debut albums of the 90s.

It's 80s or 90s for me, the best two decades for music in history!
Everything was going in the right direction until Nickelback showed up. I blame them for where we are now.
And don’t forget violent video games 😁
The 90s were the LAST great times in this world's history
Analog mobile phones existed in the 90s. Back then we called them cellular phones. They were expensive and you were lucky to get 30 minutes on a battery charge. Plus you also had to pay for calls received. Every call was roaming. And the phones were freaking big. During the first half of the decade it used to be a luxury to own a mobile phone. I didn’t get one until 1995. We didn’t have tablets, iPods, iTunes or any kind of streaming music. Napster came into existence in 1999. Most people who bought music got them on CDs. Vinyl pretty much vanished. Cassettes still existed but were beginning to make their exit. Virgin Music, Tower Records and The Wherehouse was where we bought our music. The only streaming audio that existed only on computers were RealPlayer, Windows Media Player and QuickTime. Early Internet radio stations were played on those platforms but the audio quality was terrible and 28.8K dial-up modems were not made for streaming audio or video. The audio was like AM radio analog, not stereo.

The best thing about music in the 90's was the sheer diversity, and rawness in some instances. Fast forward 15 years and it just became sanitized and samey.
It's all ghetto and country now.
Word
The '80s and '90s were pretty great for music.
Adam Ball spot on , I love everything from Smiths (ok not quite 90’s !) to rave and even a lot of ‘pop’ was far superior ! Is it old age and fogey’s speaking or did we have it all ???
Everyone used to appreciate music coz it'd either be luck of the radio or they'd have to go out and get it themselves. I like youtube and stuff but now everyone just copies coz it's what people are used to and with quickly grab onto because of familiarity and it feeling like a safer bet.
