    Lyrics:
You're weird, in tears, too near and too far away,
He said, saw red, went home stayed in bed all day,
    Your t'shirt, dish dirt,
Always love the one you hurt
    It's a crack, I'm back yeah standing
    On the rooftops shouting out,
    Baby I'm ready to go
I'm back and ready to go
From the rooftops shout it out
    It's a crack, I'm back yeah standing
    On the rooftops having it
    Baby I'm ready to go
I'm back and ready to go
From the rooftops shout it out, shout it out

Takes me back to 1996. I just finished Air Force Basic Training. I was waiting for a Greyhound Bus to take me to the airport for my first assignment. This song came on the MTV late night programming. The energy and pulse the song gave me, overcame my apprehension. Turned my anxiety to anticipation. Thanks Republica and MTV. I needed that jolt and i will never lose that connection to this song.

Crazy how many female singers were on the Rock scene in the 90s. The Breeders, Veruca Salt, Luscious Jackson, Garbage, Alanis Morrissette, Hole, No Doubt, Portishead, Mazzy Star, Elastica, Sheryl Crow, Liz Phair, Fiona Apple, Letters to Cleo, Tory Amos... Way too good.

It was huge then. There is still a heap of female singers with songs out now but much less sound like they are fronting bands rather are just laying down vocals for a song put together by some producer.

@@smathers3104 And yet not a single one of today's productions can hold a candle to Massive Attack's "Teardrop" from 1998 or Mono's "Life in Mono" from 1996, which are female singers laying down vocals for a song by a producer. @Jennifer Alvarado And that doesn't even include all the riot grrl bands from Bikini Kill down to Sleater-Kinney.

@@davidg.9932 Yes I found out when I looked up the names of the band members. He is older than the singers in both Republica and Bow Wow Wow. In photos & performances of Bow Wow Wow he was hiding behind the others so I didn't take much notice of him at the time. On Top of the Pops the camera would be only on him for a split second or he would appear when the camera panned out. Bow Wow Wow was created by Malcolm McLaren out of Adam and The Ants so the latter had to find replacements.

It's funny, it's a lot easier to listen to music now, and you can play whatever you want for free (just need to get through annoying TH-cam or Spotify ads occasionally). But I miss putting on a CD, or before that a cassette tape, though I was born in 1987 and I think we had already mostly switched to CD's when I was growing up. There was something special about it.

Analog mobile phones existed in the 90s. Back then we called them cellular phones. They were expensive and you were lucky to get 30 minutes on a battery charge. Plus you also had to pay for calls received. Every call was roaming. And the phones were freaking big. During the first half of the decade it used to be a luxury to own a mobile phone. I didn’t get one until 1995. We didn’t have tablets, iPods, iTunes or any kind of streaming music. Napster came into existence in 1999. Most people who bought music got them on CDs. Vinyl pretty much vanished. Cassettes still existed but were beginning to make their exit. Virgin Music, Tower Records and The Wherehouse was where we bought our music. The only streaming audio that existed only on computers were RealPlayer, Windows Media Player and QuickTime. Early Internet radio stations were played on those platforms but the audio quality was terrible and 28.8K dial-up modems were not made for streaming audio or video. The audio was like AM radio analog, not stereo.

Republica ~ "Ready to Go" -( 1996)- Lyrics: Songwriters: Timothy Dorney, Andrew Todd, Johnny Male, Samantha Sprackling Saffron
Ready to go, ready to go, ready to go
You're weird - in tears, too near & too far away
He said, saw red, went home - stayed in bed all day
Your Tee shirt, dish dirt, always love the one you hurt
    --- ( Chorus ) ---
It's a crack, I'm back, yeah, I'm standing on the rooftops shouting out,
"Baby I'm ready to go, I'm back & ready to go!"
From the rooftops, shout it out . . . shout it out!
You sleep too deep, one week is another world
Big mouth, (big mouth), drop out (drop out)
    You get what you deserve
You're strange, insane, one thing you can never change . . .
    --- ( Chorus ) ---
It's a crack, I'm back, yeah, I'm standing on the rooftops shouting out,
"Baby I'm ready to go, I'm back & ready to go!"
From the rooftops, shout it out . . .
It's a crack, I'm back, yeah, I'm standing on the rooftops having it
Baby I'm ready to go, I'm back and ready to go
From the rooftops shout it out.Shout it out
    Ready to go
Abused, confused, always love the one that hurt ya
Hurt ya, hurt ya, hurt ya
    --- ( Chorus ) ---
It's a crack, I'm back, yeah, I'm standing on the rooftops shouting out
Baby I'm ready to go, I'm back & ready to go
From the rooftops, shout it out
It's a crack, I'm back, yeah, I'm standing on the rooftops shoutin'
Baby I'm ready to go, I'm back & ready to go
From the rooftops, shout it out . . .
    It's a crack

Back then: I thought this was shallow, patronizing bullshit worthless music
Now: I'd give anything to be in my early 20s again
    *sigh*

DUDE! You said it. Exactly that. How the coolness of the early nineties music gave way to the dogshit of the late-- press play on this and feast your eyes on the bridge. But... It was way better than what it all looks like today. By a long shot, too.

    Never gets OLD!
Being a TEEN in the 90's was a real privilege! everything you look and hear was a total masterpiece, so much creativity and fun, such a great world to be young.
Sadly the kids from this era never are going experience that kind of freedom.

@@Model_Roe Amen sister👍and I don't want to sound like old clocks saying that on "back in my day" 😄
But if u think about the 90's it is totally an objective truth, u lived in your skin and in your senses outside the screen, there was freedom in every sense and nobody talked about labels, politics, ideologies, nobody cared about what gender u were, or color or nationality, it only mattered that you were fun and someone cool to share with... the world was a fabulous playground.
      Everything seemed more exciting.
We thought that the future was going to be much better... we did not know that we were living the last decades of authentic FREEDOM!

Saw them at the Student Uni in Leeds, many years ago, went with my brother. Ace night. As she was taking a breath at the end of one song to start another, he shouted “Saffron’s gorgeous!” She gave him a big smile and a double thumbs up. He was over the moon. 🥰. Made his night.
