My cat has a strict "once a day" cuddling rule. He'll be sleeping, and if I call his name, he'll usually ignore me or look up for a sec and go back to sleep. However, once a day, when he looks up, he has a certain look on his face and I know it's about to happen lol. Only if I'll keep petting him though, he's very demanding like that.
Omg mine as well! I've been jealous of my friends cuddly, lap sitting cat that hugs her & let's her carry him around. I'm newly retired & thought my sweet, clueless, constantly purring 6 yo cat would cuddle whenever I'm home ....nope, she will sit & sleep on chair for hours, or on the carpet, when I'm laying on sofa. But 1-2x a day, only in evening, she'll come lay on me & sleep for a couple hours on me, and occasionally in bed lol but I know she loves me even though I have never been able to pick her up...and I've had her for her entire life LOLOL 😻😻😻😸😸😸
My cat is I he same way. She has to be in the same room as me, but she only wants to be cuddled on her terms. She does sleep at the foot of the bed now.
“When he has a certain look on his face” 😂🤣 omg only cat people will TOTALLY get it. I feel extremely special and privileged when my cat decides its time for me to give him ALL the attention and affection.
Earlier on when I had my cat, I was frustrated that she didn’t want to cuddle, and I’m a physical touch kind of person and I really wanted to touch her and kiss her all the time. my sister told me “you need to learn how to love her the way she wants to be loved So the way she wants to be loved, her love language so to say, is quality time. She loves to follow me around and be near me, look at me, talk to me, and know where I’m at all the time. It’s really sweet. So I learned that that’s the way she loved me, and I had to learn to enjoy her love language of wanting to be in my presence and to enjoy being her presence without necessarily touching her. at least once a day I pick her in a way she likes and then I’ll put her down once she wants to be put down. It’s all about learning how your cat shows love and how he or she wants to be loved.
my cat is literally the same way & this just made me feel so much better 🥺 it just sucks when people complain about how “non affectionate” he is w/ them. & he is (in his own way) w my sister & i, he just doesn’t do it w/ anyone necessarily. he’s very picky. but then again so am i so it’s okay 😂
My cat is just like yours. I wanted a cuddly cat but she just isn’t. But I love her anyway. She loves me to pat down her back. She rubs against my legs. Will not cuddle on the bed, she sleeps at the bottom of the bed beside my feet. She wants to know where I am. She likes to be close by. Just have to let her be herself.
My cat is the sameee yoooo!! 😭exact same word for word everything you just said. Ima start doing that cuz everytime I get a chance I literally pet him or try to carry him and he’ll just bite me soft 🤣
That's really helpful, thank you for sharing this! I grew up with dogs, so my first kitty has been quite the adjustment. He's a sweet kitty and super cute, so I just want to love on him and cuddle all the time. But he doesn't like that as much as I do, so I keep overstimulating him by accident. I'm going to watch some more cat behavior videos, and maybe they'll help me understand better how to adjust! I know he won't be like a dog, but I want my kitty to be happy. ❤
Cindy Troxler I have 6 and you’re absolutely right. They’re all lovely and have different quirks and personality. My favorite part is learning their individual affection language.
We have 4 and there are 3of us humans. They pick their human not the other way around. Our two youngest are my girls and leap into my arms or meow at me to sit on my lap. My son gets a completely different reaction from them. One will spit and growl at him if his hand goes neat her body. He doesn't even need to touch her for.her gutteral complaining to ramp up.
My cat cuddles when I sleep. She literally waits for me to get in the bed and then she's on her way. Hops up in the bed and waits for me to lift the blanket so she can scoot up right next to my chest and then we cuddle. I put my arm around her and she's tucked in and her lil head is always on the pillow 🥺 I never taught her, she's just a snuggly ass cat 😂 I got soooo lucky.
Yes, sexual reproduction produces variation not only in appearance, but also behavior: I can you give a short lesson if you like ? ...Would probably only take 5 or 10 seconds :P
My cat is in no way a “ Lap cat “ or a “cuddle cat “ or a “ Pick up and hold me cat for a long time “ He is a next to your feet cat in the lazy boy chair . He is purrfect to me .
My cat just sleeps. And then about 1 time every day, she starts BLITZING across the house. She'll run upstairs, then into the bathroom, the under the bed, and then to the kitchen. And then eventually she'll go back to bed for another while. Its very cute
Naa45702 -- That has been my experience. I had a cuddler lap cat who purred and purred and couldn't get enough petting. My other cat loved me very much and was a sweet, loving cat who was easygoing but not as pushy as the other one. Then this last cat doesn't care too much about being touched, doesn't let me pick him up and will show tummy or cuddle only on his own terms.
@@deboraht5079 The tummy up position is also a great attack position because all the sharp claws are available. Watching kittens you can see it. Most cats don't like tummy rubs. But gentle strokes around the face / or where ever they like it usually go well.
I have 4 cats, they each have their own personalities and I love them all. My advice is if you want a cat with a certain personality go to the shelter and adopt an older cat. That way you know exactly what your getting + older cats deserve love too.
I agree, older cats are great because there’s no need to worry that their personality might change when they grow up. You know exactly who you’re bringing into your home!
Yes, I adopted two cats last year, one is 5 yrs old and the other one 7 yrs old. They both had been in shelter for a long time probably partially because of their age. Their actual personalities (after moving in with me) are just the same as what the shelter staff told me, but INTENSIFIED. I was told that they’re affectionate and like cuddles. And it turns out they’re really really really affectionate and really LOVES cuddles. We’re a great match and I couldn’t be happier!
Lord Sakazuki Bc they need care. how much we care for cats apparently depends on human opinions? ok girl just let them rot in cages for the rest of their lives. gtfo tbh
My boy isn’t a cuddler, he wants to be close by, but he wants his space. He shows me he loves me by meeting me at the door, and rubbing my legs when I go to the bathroom every morning. That’s when he purrs. He allows me to pick him up occasionally and that’s all the cuddles we have. Thank you for showing me what cat mojo truly is. My cat is obsessed with your ground prey wand toy, so thank you for that too ❤️😊😻
We rescued two feral kittens from the street, very scared little babies. I used to play them a cat purring from TH-cam because it isn’t uncommon for feral kittens to never purr as a survival instinct to keep quiet. My heart melted two weeks after we got them and they began to purr! They were older kittens when we found them so the taming process is a lot slower then when you rescue itty bitty babies but they’re coming along so well!!
Oh my gosh you are speaking about relationships with ppl too. If your one of those ppl that want others to conform, time to look at your self and how you interact with others. This was so spot on.
I love my cat. He cuddles so much and makes his biscuits on me. But he is also not too clingy. Truly the best cat I've ever had and I'll be sad the day he goes. Hopefully I still have more than a decade with him.
Haha same! Once that seasonal chill begins to return my cat is back in the bed asking for under-the-blanket cuddles every morning (and at the height of winter sometimes at night as well)! The amount of time he spends under there just increases through the winter.
So I live in the tropics and this might be wrong but when I want my kitten to cuddle with me I turn on the ac. Works every time. He's still little so I'm hoping he chooses to cuddle as he gets older lol but for now he can see me as a source of warmth lol
I’ve tried to get my cat to lay with me and I’ve realized, she comes and lays with me when she wants to. Cats have a very independent mindset. Also, I don’t think I would like it very much if some giant that towers 5-6 feet over is man handling me and making me do things that I don’t want to. I can not force her to. Just wait for you cat to come to you then all will be well. :)
@@wombat.6652 Cats are totally trainable. The only thing is that you treat them with respect, and you both do it for the fun. (And for the treats, obviously :) ) My cat knows: sit down, lie down, stand up, jump on a chair, give me five, turn around, walk along, stop and sit still.
I made (trained) my cat to want to be cuddled by making her jealous 😄 My female white cat was being too posh, she loved to be cuddled when she was few months old, but when she's like 2-3 years old she began to act she wanted to go away when I tried to cuddle her. So I took my other cat (black male) who doesn't like to be carried like a baby position but don't mind being carried like almost standing up on the side half my shoulder and he's facing behind looking over my shoulder, and I carried my male cat in front of her and tried to make her jealous like "Oh I love you [male cat name] cos you like being cuddled, unlike her (me looking at her with my side eye) who doesn't love me back. Aww thank you [black cat name] you love me, i love you too so much", giving him kiss and hug, then go away from her. Then the next time she wants to be cuddled and enjoyed and felt loved being cuddled and never run away since then 😄 I think since then she knows that me hugging her and carrying her around is me being loving to her and she loves being loved 😊
My cat is so cuddly and sweet, he is almost like a dog. He loves belly rubs, greets me when i come back from work, i've even trained him to sit, lie down and high five. He's the greatest gift i have ever had ☺️
I would love to have a cuddle cat. Unfortunately my cat was brought to the shelter because she didn't get along with other cats so getting a cuddle monster probably isn't in the forecast.... Oh well. She's still my fat little terrorist and I still love her to squishy bits.
My first cuddle cat was in a shelter. Her name was tubbykins, and she was 12 years old. My other one was a stray kitten with a massive eye infestation. Fleas had laied larvae in his tear duct and he had been dumpster diving for his littermate who was....a "special girl". Sweet as pie but she had what our family calls a skippy brain. It plays like a worn out record...point bein. They were feral kittens malnutritioned but six-seven months old at the time. I had watched them in the neighborhood for weeks before a nippy night his sister mewed and lead me to his sick little body hidden right by my stoop. I raised them and he was the lover boy. Slept mostly right on my chest. Best cat I've ever seen. He got me through the toughest part of my life.
I have a boy like your cat. I have had him for 3 years and i still have to be careful for when he decides to bite. He is loving but i need to keep an eye on the cat signs. He also doesn't get on with my other cats but gets on with the dog. I have a cat enclosure so we are able to keep our kitties separate.I hope your kitty becomes more loving with time.
We rescued all of our cats. The oldest was ‘tossed away’ even though he was neutered and declawed in the front. When we brought him in he was so sick the vet wasn’t sure if he would make it. He did and it took 1 and a half years for him to sit on my lap for 10 minutes. I was thrilled! It’s been 11 years and he’s still not a big lap cat, but he will come sit on my lap for a bit most days. That’s fine. He’s happy and we’re happy. The other two cats like to be near me a lot. Each one does their thing. We wouldn’t have it any other way.
Thanks Jackson. Really helped remind me to not feel guilty that I’m not doing enough to “train my cat to be a lapcat”. I rescued a feral 6 week old kitten who had been meowing for hours in the storm drain behind my house. A couple neighbours/passers-by and my brother and I took awhile but managed to get him into a cardboard box, and I suddenly became a cat parent. People were telling me all sorts of things like “if you start young enough, you can train him to be a lapcat”, etc, and since he was pretty hissy in the beginning I’ve been taking it slow socialising him. But Momo’s a feisty, independent, intelligent little kitten. He’s definitely got some of those “wild genes” that helped his forebears survive out there without getting caught - AKA he is EXTREMELY food motivated, active and constantly on the hunt, deathly curious about everything but still wary, sleeping with one eye/ear open. He is NOT a cat that’s been bred to be “domestic” and have “cuddly” traits. I’m really proud of how he’s warmed up to humans - over these past 2.5 weeks he’s been giving me & my bro little greeting head butts, guiding my hand for nuzzles, slow blinking, purring, and in the past week coming up to us on the bed or armchair and snuggling up for a nap. But after the first few head scritches or strokes he WILL let you know that he’s done. Batting at you or putting his mouth over your hand. The thing he hated the most about the vet and his first vaccine? Being restrained and unable to move for the vaccine to be administered, not even so much the vaccine itself! I’ve been trying to get him a little more used to human touch as I don’t want him freaking out for example at the vet/when other people touch him who aren’t us, with ‘exposure therapy’ - holding him while I feed him treats, picking him up when he’s in a good mood etc, giving him an extra pet here and there if he’s okay with it - but I always felt a little at odds with the idea of “training to cuddle”. Some of the best bonding moments with Momo have been when he willing comes up to me or my brother - nose out and looking for love - and he CHOOSES to fall asleep in our laps or by our side. I really felt a breakthrough with socialising him when I first lulled him to sleep next to me, with slow blinks and yawns and lying on my belly until we both dozed off together. It was the biggest show of trust and love. Despite his crazy kitten self and his ‘temperamental’ personality - I wouldn’t change who he is for the world.
I have 16 rescued cats. They live with me and all come to me. I have some real cuddle bugs and some who would let me carry them all day if I could. Most come only on their on time. They know when I need the cuddles. 🙏💕🐾
I'm so glad you said this. One of my favorite cats ever was not a cuddler, but he was happy and confident and such a character in every way. He just loved to do things with us like he was another human. He loved going outside with my mom to do the gardening (and catching mice that were eating her vegetables!) hanging out with my dad while he watched TV, or watching my brother's heavy metal band rehearse (how the sound did not bother him I have no idea). He loved to be pet while he walked around or played, and loved when people talked to him, but he just didn't like to cuddle and we never pushed him to. It's been over a year since he passed away and we still all miss him like crazy.
Jackson, you are such an excellent communicator! This perspective is very helpful because we had just been talking about making one of our cats more cuddly. Instead, “I yam what I yam.” 😻
My most favorite characteristic about cats is their individuality. I've had lots of cats in my lifetime and never has one been like another. And that's a beautiful thing! I love all my cats for their uniqueness and I let them be themselves -- some must cuddle for several hours a day, every day and some prefer to simply sit next to me. Whatever they choose is fine with me. I love them all just the same :) Thank you for sharing this important reminder to let cats be cats.
I agree with Jackson here. You can encourage your cat to spend time with you and reward them with treats and face rubs or petting the way they like it. But it takes time and repetition and also knowing and respecting the boundaries of your cat. The extremely fearful foster cat we ended up adopting (b/c she was almost unadoptable) eventually learned she could trust us, and that face and chin rubs actually felt really good. But she is not a lap cat, nor does she like to be held. Very skittish still. However, every night after dinner we called her to the couch and had "kibble time". Where we place kibbles on the sofa for her eat, then on the blanket near us, then on our legs, and now she comes running after dinner to join us and will half lay on my lap and purr and drool and otherwise thoroughly enjoy some petting and kibbles. It's a lot of progress for her, and although I doubt she'll ever become a fully lap cat for just the sake of the lap, she is a delight to me in her own special way.
When I rescued my first cat, he was under the bed for 3 days, little by little he came out and sniffed around and came out of his shell. He was the most loving, in your face, legit hugs cat... so much it overwhelmed some people... we lost him, and now we have two new rescues... I didn’t realized what a gem I had in my first cat, isn’t that always the case. But my two new kitties are as individual and amazing as any other, I am getting adjusted to their far away I love yous .
Jackson, sorry but I just admire and love you so much! You changed my perception of cats over 5 years ago and opened me up to the ability to master "observation, perception, and respect". It started to learn to understand my cats; it ended by me understanding how to appreciate and understand the world. Thank you Jackson. I am proud to be Cat-ta-fied!
Everything you said is correct. Some people needs to know that not all cats are the same. Like humans we have our own different personalities...some are cuddly, some are not.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Rainbow bridge is the most beautiful place, some day we are all reunited. In the meantime, you cherish your memories, & like many, another little bundle of fur will light up your life! X
My cat didn't become a lap cat until the 2nd year of living with me. He actually chose to sit in my *friend's* lap out of the blue, and I was SOO offended 😂 after my friend left, he was sitting next to me on the couch. I picked him up and placed him squarely in my lap. He was hesitant, but he stayed! Now he is the biggest happiest lap kitty ever. He will actually get cranky and glare at me if I'm not sitting on the couch for him to cuddle up with me. Edit: I have to sit in certain positions in order for my cat to sit in my lap. If it's not exactly right, he will not sit with me. He also prefers if there's a soft blanket on my lap before curling up so he can make biscuits 😊 hope this helps someone else!
Maybe it's a little like...middle school, when you like someone but TOO MUCH so you test out the "asking out" thing on someone you like but not AS much? XD. I'm so glad you helped him find his inner lap kitty.
My kitty Sherlock Holmes, had to be unexpectedly put down a month shy of his 6th birthday last week. Most of my "furbaby-mama" relationship with him was based on the vast knowledge u shared throughout ur videos, Jackson, so thank u for that!! I'm grateful for the 5 wonderful years I got with him...my kitty before him was a definite lap kitty, and Sherlock was not....the most IMPORTANT thing I provided Sherlock was the respect and space to be his own personality!! He slowly began to sit/lay beside me on the couch over the final 3 years I had him, but ironically the moment I chose as a cat mama to let him be himself, sleep on the sofa rather than on my bed at night with me, that acceptance & freedom reciprocated to him slowly enjoying our morning snuggles. All this to say, let ur kitty be their own energy & personality!! One of my top reasons for being a "🐈 lover" is adoring and appreciating their independent streak, and accepting their own versions of "love & companionship". RIP my darling Sherlock, thx again Cat Daddy for keepin it real!! Much love 🐈😽👀💓💖
Swedish_IceQueen sorry for your loss. Hopefully when you are ready you will open your heart to another furbaby. It does help with the healing, especially if you have another cat who is grieving like I had. I found the best way to find a replacement cat was to go to a cat shelter and get in amongst the cars and see who comes to you, they usually show their personality pretty quick cause they start purring, come to you, will butt heads etc. I volunteer at an animal shelter and the other day I was bending down in one of the cages and a white kitty jumped on my back, started kneading and snuggling my neck. If I didnt already have cats he would have been coming home with me as it brought back memories of a cat I had years ago who loved nothing better than laying around my neck on my back and go for a walk with me
@@lucydwyer2721 thank u for the kind words & condolences 💖 I will always be a cat mama, and have furbabies, I swear it's a part of my DNA!! 😹 Sherlock was a gift from my best friend to help my grieving when Dunston, my prior kitty since childhood, had to be put down at 16 yrs old. Although raising an 11-wk old kitten was a joy and in some ways helped my grief, I'm going to wait to find another fur-baby at a shelter until I'm ready so they can receive my full love & attention. Sherlock came from a kitten mill and was flea & ear mites infested when I got him, not properly socialized. The vet believes that his renal failure at 5 yrs old (which had absolutely no signs nor early symptoms until the last 4 days of his life) was due to poor genetics. I'm thankful that he had a good home & care with me, and he was a kitty that taught me how different and individual each cat's traits, personalities, and affection preferences can be!! Again, thank u for the kind words, it's wonderful to connect with fellow animal & cat lovers and feel that shared passion, enthusiasm 🐈😊
Hi, just wanted to offer my condolences to you on the passing of’Sherlock’. I’ve had a few cats over my lifetime, and I know the heartache when one passes. My present cat, a rescue female is not a lap cat, although I wish she was. She was previously abused before she came to me, and I can only accept her for who she is and love her conditionally to hopefully teach her not all humans are bad.
Im also sorry for your loss. Only fur mammas & daddies know this sadness. My cat adopted us by simply coming back daily after I started to feed the strays in our garden. Gradually, we became buddies & now her big ol' ass is sleeping next to me in a blanky with her cuddly toys! She has helped our grief at my dog & mum passing away. I have learned so much from Jackson in a short time frame, I cannot thank him enough! Love to him & all brilliant fur patents! 😺🐰🐕🐩
I needed to hear this. My lovely boy does not snuggle close like I'd always dreamt my own cat would do, but he has other ways of showing his affection and I'm learning to fully appreciate our relationship as it is.
my cat Salem came to me as an abused adult cat who was abandoned on an empty farm in the desert when his owners decided to move without him and at first it seemed he would never want to be very close to humans but was grateful for food and a warm bed
You are so right about other cats changing the cats around them my Willis was a 2 yo feral rescue that was being dominated by possible brother in other foster home. He spent his first 2 weeks hiding out under my bed felt like we would never see his cute furry face. But I was already fostering a mother and her new kittens and 1 day the kittens found a couple of plastic bb's the hockey game started on my wood floor willis got so curious and excited and his entire personality shifted to confidence, feeling secure and he is a love sponge ready to greet everyone and has never hidden anywhere ever since
@@anamarie435 I am glad your Salem found you , Willis certainly blossomed because of the kittens hockey game and went on to act as an ambassador for the 2 years 19 cat kittens we fostered. Ironically after a shift in life and no longer fostering we got adopted by a young black kitten mid October we also named Salem
This is how my cats became cuddlers. We had one that was in your face from the start. The other two watched her get all the extra attention and decided they wanted that too. Now it’s rare not to have someone in my lap or sitting beside me.
I LOVE watching how my six cats all learn from each other. Mira (a 4yr old female) learned to make happy kitten trills, be more vocal, and make biscuits on the bed (record of 6 min straight!) Pearl (a semiferal kitten) learned to rub up on me and head bunt. She sometimes comes over to do it as soon as she sees Monkee doing it. 😆 Mostly they all learn from Monkee (a 14 lb, 4 yr male who is a big lover boy and chillest cat ever) Monkee see, Monkee do!
Thanks Jackson. I truly needed this video right now. I lost my cat soulmate last week. Kelly and I were totally connected. We read each other’s minds and were very close. She was always on my lap within 10 seconds of sitting down . My remaining cat, Buffy, is very reserved and distant. Granted, Buffy was used to Kelly’s topcat-ness, so took a backseat to most things. And admittedly, I allowed it. So now, Buffy and I are helping each other through our mourning, but I long for Buffy to be cuddly, like Kelly was. Going forward, I will be happy with the kitty Buffy is.
I adopted two bonded brother kittens who were happy to stick together and had little interest in us. But over the years they’ve warmed up to us, they sleep on the bed, they purr. Love the cat you have ❤️🐾
Love this! I have two and they couldn’t be more different - especially when it comes to cuddle time - even the way they cuddle is different. One wants to be held and purrs so hard I think the neighbors can hear, the other is more stately and like to groom you as you pet him.
Yeah I agree with the comments: It's about, my cat seems not to love me since they do not want to cuddle. But love can be shown in so many different ways. And I think that is the great thing about animals in general.
I never asked for a cuddly cat but I got the most clingy kitty ever xD No matter what you're doing she wants to be on you and getting cuddles, if you don't comply she'll jump on your shoulder and slam her face against yours purring. I love her so much
Love this, and 100% agree! Be yourself and let them be themselves. Put time and effort into the relationship. If it’s right, cuddles and purrs will come! So much better when not forced. We love you, Mr. Jackson Galaxy! ❤️🐾❤️
How do cats cuddle each other? By licking each other. So pet the cat gently with two fingers in the way her momma cat would groom her, along her cheeks and forehead, and she'll cuddle you back.
Gentle human bunting helps. We have our human scent all over your face. Mama kittens groom and mark them with their scent. So nuzzling the kitty head when they get that close? 100% win rate for bonding. Just don't force it.
Elissa Ketterer Yes! You can even rub your finger on your temple or ear to get your scent, and then rub your hand across the cat's cheeks. It's like Jackson Galaxy letting the cat sniff his glasses, because his smell is there
I like to do as Jackson sugested and make a nose out of two bent fingers and use a fist shape to headbonk them. They will kiss and bonk your hand like its a cats head.
Thank you so much for this, Jackson! I’ve adopted a 5yo cat a month ago. I’ve always had cat, but this is the first time I’ve adopted an adult cat. She’s adorable and on her own way, loving. However, she’s not a lap cat and I miss that so much, as all my other cats would happily sit on me for hours. I don’t force her to do what she is not comfortable doing, but I thought I could get her to be more cuddly with time, after this I’ll let her be herself and appreciate the way she shows me her affection :)
My kitty spent his first 9 years living in dust and never being loved or petted in the home of a hoarder. The shelter we adopted him from told us that he would always be a spirit cat. We fell in love with him, and took him home. Five months later he is very vocal, demanding, loves to cuddle and play, and he always wants me to pick him up and carry him around. And I do.😀
I have 11 rescues, all are lap cats:-), they are loved and happy. Only one rescued bengal cat needed a year to look at others and trust purr and sleep with us. Great job you do Jackson!
Lol my cat can be very affectionate (when he wants to be!) But lately he has sometimes decided to lay right up against my face (when I'm laying on my side). Needless to say, no breathing in that position either!
I was a volunteer cat cuddler at a shelter. It really helped to get the cats adopted. Of course I always respected that some did not want to cuddle. But the ones who did really came far with the time I spent with them
My beautiful black panther Boo was born in the streets and fed and taken care of by a good soul that also took care of his parents… He was trapped at five months and I adopted him on January 10, 2018... I fall in love with him by seeing only pictures and videos from his foster mom... When he got to my home it wasn't easy at first… It took me one month of sitting on the floor talking to him and reading to him as well as rejected treats, ignored play invitations while he was hiding under the bed… He would come out only during the evening and at night but no touching him!... But because I respected and never forced anything on him he is now a curious, loving, talkative, playful yet shy with strangers, young adult… He purrs like a little machine when I look and talk to him and demands attention WHEN he decides of course!… I respect his bouderies and enjoy and relish in interacting with him when he choses to... Eventually , his parents were also trapped, neutered and adopted...
I don't think it's possible to convince all cats to like cuddling. You can definitely train cats to learn that their caretakers are loving and cats can learn to trust more and be more accepting of affection, but it's all dependant on the individual cat and what they choose to like. If certain cats don't like to be cuddled, don't force it. The act of cuddling is a human thing.
@@SUGAR_XYLER I've had male cats who only try to mess with other male cats sure. Never seen it the other way though. These were also cats who were fixed. Shocked me silly that the one still got it up. O.o
That’s the only way I could figure out how to train him. When he was smaller, he’d want to leave but I’d just hold him there and I’d sometimes give him treats after. Now, he’s so much more loving and he comes to cuddle me almost every night and if we don’t cuddle, he’s very close. His purrs often put me to sleep
@@missshannonsunshine I got my 2 sister cats at the same time. One will NOT let me cuddle but when I lay down she will come lay on me. As soon as I move my arm to try and pet or cuddle she runs. The other one let's me walk around with her inside my hoodie pocket
tiff m I’ve gotten to trim mine since he was a tiny little kitten. I think that’s why he loves me so much. He’s very sweet to because I saved him. I think so anyways. He won’t cuddle my mom. Only me. It took a while to get there though. He used to want to run from me a lot but I’d just have different positions to hold him so he couldn’t run away. Now I don’t need to unless he has too much energy and isn’t ready to sleep with me.He’s two years old .
My parents have two cats with opposing characters: Mr. "Touch me the wrong way and we are done" and Mr. "Do what ever you want, as long as I can stay with you". Both have had traumatic experiences... But now they are fine. :)
My cat wasn’t a cuddly cat for the longest time. I adopted her a bit older, she was always pretty affectionate but wasn’t ever a fan of cuddling close to me for any extended period of time. Now every night when I go to sleep she crawls up on my legs (I sleep on my back) and she curls up and sleeps until my alarm goes off in the morning. She doesn’t like cuddling close to my chest/face, she gets scared when I put my face too close to her for whatever reason so I respect her signs of discomfort. It took a couple years but she finally trusts me enough to cuddle on my lap when it’s bedtime. Over time respecting her boundaries and learning her language she found a happy medium to snuggle with me without making herself uncomfortable 😇
I adopted Max 13 years ago from a rescue organization. He loves to cuddle and is convinced I’m his mother. My husband marvels at this (Sleeps with me too, which I love).
Beautiful! I like that he respects the cats boundaries and encourages everyone else to do the same. Life is a box of cats man .. you never know what you’re going to get 😸
My cat loves attention from my husband. She politely pushes my hand away when I try to pet her. 😭 We have our moments, but he's her love. He's never had a pet of any kind and he's taken aback by her emotions and how attached he's become. Seeing them together melts my heart. I wouldn't have her any other way.
agree, same does my orhpane kitty i saved in the summer. I give her to eat ,guardian..but she adores my hub. And so be it! She can decide by herself who to chose to cuddle with. As long she s happy, oh and my hub,lol.. never been a cat lover, now? yep...
It has been my greatest joy to help all my animal friends to find their mojo! My Sutekh who is my older cat she is my princess when she wants something she lets you know! Bahgeera was my most recent rescue he was abused and abandoned I took him in when he was on deaths door step. It took about 6 months to get him physically healthy again, but the mental scars took much longer. A year and a half later he has found his mojo and it makes me so happy! He went from this timid anxiety filled cat who hid in cabinets (once locking us out of our bathroom by pulling out a drawer LOL) to a loving playful purr monster who goes charging through the house, jumps on the bed to lick and head butt any exposed toes and purr and snuggle. He is also loves and is very protective of his big sister. And I can honestly say Jackson its your work and advice that helped bring out his mojo. I've trained and rescued animals all my life but when we rescued Bahgeera he proved as far as cats go to be my most challenging case. I cannot thank you enough for all the work you do and how much you have helped us. If I ever get a chance to meet you I would love to give you a big ol'bear hug as thank you!
This will be great!!! My current kitty is an adult feral rescue. Will lay next to us but does NOT like to be petted. We can occasionally pet his head and that's it...
Aine Eithne -- keep trying. We had a feral cat who decided people are pretty cool when he turned 6 years old. I'm not sure why that clicked. But he started seeking us out and slowly began enjoying human companionship and petting.
My cat, Jules, is a Rag Doll cat. He sleeps with me at night. He follows me around 24/7 (I work from home), and loves it when I hold him on my lap for hours at a time. I know. I'm lucky as hell. Check out the Rag Doll breed, though. They were made for lots of loving. Cheers, y'all :)
I was a dog person and I rescue a 2 new born cats and now !!!!!!!!!!! They change my life… I am a Holistic therapist and my best teachers are my cat and my dog…I do respect their personality and I am grateful…thank you so much for your videos
My cat trained herself to cuddle 😂 one or two years after I got her, just once she was a little spoon now (4 years later?) she's SUCH a cuddle bug! Every night and every morning she has to lay with me under the blankets
My cat is so loyal to me. He follows me around, sleeps with me, I wake up at night just to give him treats and brush him. Hes 18.8 pounds and is a pure white long-hair with orange eyes. ❤ I've had times working too much when I felt guilty and came home just to play with my cat I was neglecting. To hell with anything else that really doesn't matter. What matters is that he's my buddy. The best toys are yellow post-it notes crumbled into a ball to thump around. A single post-it note crumbled ball is the perfect weight and size for cats to play with.
I'm so lucky to have my cat Dusty. He loves to cuddle all the time and sometimes it seems we can read each other's mind and we talk together all the time. He was a very, very shy shelter kitten and when I brought him home we bonded over a can of salmon and he immediately lost his shyness. So lucky.
Pretty sure my handsome cat only cuddles in the morning because he's waiting for his soft food. 🙄🥰 Sometimes I'll make him wait awhile, because I treasure those moments!
For some reason our cat is really only affectionate with my partner. She will cuddle, lay down & sleep with him but won't [basically] EVER with me. This is despite the fact that I'm the one who feeds her, gives her treats, takes care of everything else for her and shows her the most attention (ie. plays with her). When I'm home and around her, she follows me around everywhere... and when she wants to play, she lets me know. But she pretty much just refuses to lay down next to me &/or cuddle. We also noticed that neither of us have ever heard her purr before. No matter how much she is relaxed & enjoying being rubbed/petted, she does not purr, ever! I've had like over 20 cats throughout my life, and I don't think a single one before her has just not purred.
I adopted a 14 year old cat this year. It is spring here. Still cold at night. He will sleep under the blankets on my *right* side only. Cool :) . Yes he puts himself there. :). So glad I saved him. Our time together may be short, but so high quality :)))) Thank Jackson! All cats do have their own ways of being!!!!
So true, cats are lovely as they are. All of them are to be loved just the way they are. I have four Of them, all so nice, one a lapcat, another one once and then a lapcat, three sleeping in my bed regularly, one always watching me taking a shower. And so on. Miau lots of Love to a caring and understanding cat community 😻
I REALLY needed to see this video. I adopted a 1 year old cat a couple of months ago. She does not cuddle or like to be petted. If she wants a pet she will allow me to pet her as she walks by. She will not stop walking so I have to give her a quick pet. I was a bit disappointed in her not being very affectionate but I know now to except her as she is. She is a great cat. She interacts with me and will lay NEAR me on the sofa. I accept that as her affection. I got excited seeing the title of this video but now I know, just love the wonderful cat that you have. Don't try to change them.
Dude you are the man, this was such a perfect 5 minute video. I’ve been really feeling this with our two cats. I have one snuggle bug and one crazy sassy girl who can only handle a few seconds of petting. Thanks for encouraging me to love her for her quirky little self!
Thank you so much for your advice. My Misty came home September 27th 2021. She lived her first 5months in a dirty cage before I got her home. She doesn't like to be hugged. And that saddens me because I really love her and want to hug her. I wonder what experience she went through as a little baby... and I wish I could change that. But she shows her affection in ways that assure me that she loves me too. If I am ever sad, she comes over and sits with her head on my shoulder (something she never does otherwise), or she puts her head on my feet. I realized she only does that when I am feeling down. And I love her even more for her personality, the way she expresses herself when she senses I can need some affection. Misty is an adorable awesome being, so wholesome and beautiful. I do hope that someday she will enjoy hugging me like I want to desperately hug her. But until then I will continue cherishing the moments she lets me know that she cares in her own way.
One of my cats only cuddles when he's cold or is extra needy that day while my two other cats will lay next to me but they don't like to be touching others while napping.
I made ("trained") my cat to want to be cuddled by making her jealous 😄 My female white cat was being too posh, she loved to be cuddled when she was few months old, but when she's like 2-3 years old she began to act she wanted to go away when I tried to cuddle her. She was starring at us 😏 Then the next time (about few days after) I tried to cuddle her she wants to be cuddled and enjoyed and felt loved being cuddled and never run away since then 😄 I think since then she knows that me hugging her and carrying her around is me being loving to her and she loves being loved 😊

I totally agree with this! You cant teach your cat to behave differently. Sure you can teach the cat to not sit on the counters but not to cuddle. Thats the beauty of cats, they do what they want when they want to. All the love to you Jackson!
My Bengal cross Kara loves to snuggle when I get into bed, she sleeps on my pillow on top of my head, or she sleeps next to me. She also loves to snuggle up with my Labradoodle Bella on the bed or on the sofa. She also loves to snuggle on my 14yo daughters pillow. Kara stays and waits on her cat perch to be fed and gives high fives for treats. Which I think is AMAZING seeing as she was a stray kitten and we don't know her background. She went from underweight and hiding under my bed to strutting around the house at an average weight and talking all the time. She is still a bit nervous when people she doesn't know well enter the house but will watch from a safe distance before meowing at them to say hello. I'm so proud of how far Kara has come since we rescued her from a life on the streets. She doesn't like being picked up and rarely climbs on laps for a cuddle but she is the best cat and I'm happy that she is ours. P. S. Jackson we love you and all the work you do to train people in Cat Guardianship, we watched My Cat from Hell for years before we rescued our Kara. So Thank you for teaching us how to allow her to be herself. 🌟
What a great story! Amazing what love &: patience can achieve. Our kitty was a stray & kindly adopted us. We still can stay in the house, thanks to her kindness of course..lol
I'm so grateful my kitty loves to cuddle! Most nights he puts me to bed by cuddling by my face and purring until I fall asleep. It's like he was created to be my perfect feline soul mate. Which is great because the chihuahua mix we got about 6 months earlier than the kitty was supposed to be for me, but she bonded way more with my hubby!
One time a day. My way ,kinda cat.
Mine also only allows once a day petting but under some unusual terms. He likes it very early, around 6am and only when we use the bathroom lmao
“When he has a certain look on his face” 😂🤣 omg only cat people will TOTALLY get it. I feel extremely special and privileged when my cat decides its time for me to give him ALL the attention and affection.
Earlier on when I had my cat, I was frustrated that she didn’t want to cuddle, and I’m a physical touch kind of person and I really wanted to touch her and kiss her all the time. my sister told me “you need to learn how to love her the way she wants to be loved
So the way she wants to be loved, her love language so to say, is quality time.
& he is (in his own way) w my sister & i, he just doesn’t do it w/ anyone necessarily. he’s very picky. but then again so am i so it’s okay 😂
thanks, this make me understand my cat
The more cats, the more awesome personalitiess you'll get. I have 5 each one likes different things. Love them all!
We have 3. It's like the 3 stooges
I agree! I too have 10 cats
16 cats here and only two are similar in appearance & personality 😻
My cat cuddles when I sleep. She literally waits for me to get in the bed and then she's on her way. Hops up in the bed and waits for me to lift the blanket so she can scoot up right next to my chest and then we cuddle. I put my arm around her and she's tucked in and her lil head is always on the pillow 🥺 I never taught her, she's just a snuggly ass cat 😂 I got soooo lucky.
My darling Burmese boy does the same. But only in winter 😽
Mine too
Mine too! 💜
Yes, sexual reproduction produces variation not only in appearance, but also behavior: I can you give a short lesson if you like ? ...Would probably only take 5 or 10 seconds :P
So jelly
My cat is in no way a “ Lap cat “ or a “cuddle cat “ or a “ Pick up and hold me cat for a long time “
He is a next to your feet cat in the lazy boy chair . He is purrfect to me .
I have a lap cat, a pick up and hold cat and ones that like neither each cats loves differently
Jo Bryant my cat 🐈 too! She likes to have her own space.
Lord Sakazuki Thats what I was thinking too.
Lord Sakazuki Bc they need care. how much we care for cats apparently depends on human opinions? ok girl just let them rot in cages for the rest of their lives. gtfo tbh
barbie ken Bc a cat’s life is worth more than inconsequential human feelings
My boy isn’t a cuddler, he wants to be close by, but he wants his space. He shows me he loves me by meeting me at the door, and rubbing my legs when I go to the bathroom every morning. That’s when he purrs. He allows me to pick him up occasionally and that’s all the cuddles we have.
Thank you for showing me what cat mojo truly is. My cat is obsessed with your ground prey wand toy, so thank you for that too ❤️😊😻
I had a cat who didn't purr. But, after we got picked by a kitten who pitted like a motor boat, Hugo began to purr, too! He really loved Fluffy.
Pamela Van Lente Time to get a dog.
I have two dogs. What does that have to do with ppl trying to change things to conform to their own wishes. Maybe this is your attempt. Hummm
very true. Some ppl need to start learning that pets and children are not their private property lol.
I love my cat. He cuddles so much and makes his biscuits on me. But he is also not too clingy. Truly the best cat I've ever had and I'll be sad the day he goes. Hopefully I still have more than a decade with him.
My cat only cuddles when he's cold and I bring out the special hand made winter blanky. Once the blanket is over me, so is my cat. It works for us.
I hope you live somewhere cold
A season cat 👍😻
My cat demands my lap ALL. THE. TIME. It’s hard to get anything done! And of course she gets her way, and she purrs A LOT. 😻😻
You are so lucky!
I wish I had that problem 😭
LOL. You're momma.
That’s totally my newly adopted Cat! Lol
I feel your pain, lol. As I type this, my cat is in my lap and trying to get my hands back for cuddling.
Humans can train dogs. We can negotiate with cats is how I see it. And you are doing the right thing! Observing them to see what works :)
I made (trained) my cat to want to be cuddled by making her jealous 😄
My female white cat was being too posh, she loved to be cuddled when she was few months old, but when she's like 2-3 years old she began to act she wanted to go away when I tried to cuddle her. Aww thank you [black cat name] you love me, i love you too so much", giving him kiss and hug, then go away from her.
Then the next time she wants to be cuddled and enjoyed and felt loved being cuddled and never run away since then 😄
I think since then she knows that me hugging her and carrying her around is me being loving to her and she loves being loved 😊
Oh well. She's still my fat little terrorist and I still love her to squishy bits.
omg lol at 'fat little terrorist' just cracked me up XD
@@burntrosechick some times.I wonder if by saving them we are actually let them save us.... I have never once regretted rescuing a furry friend.
Give her time, be patient, my smallest cat warmed up to affection more than I thought she would
I have a boy like your cat.
You are clearly a wonderful cat parent and he is lucky to have you :)
It's been over a year since he passed away and we still all miss him like crazy.
they only cuddle at bedtime. They don't like being picked up or held for too long. I just want a hug!!!
I’m grateful for any love gesture my cat is willing to afford me. I love him dearly and respect his individuality💕
Love the one (cat/s) you're with! 😻😻😻
Jackson, you are such an excellent communicator! This perspective is very helpful because we had just been talking about making one of our cats more cuddly. Instead, “I yam what I yam.” 😻
My cat, Tony purrs quietly; but he loves to give me head bumps! 💥😺
Too cute :)
I love them all just the same :)
Thank you for sharing this important reminder to let cats be cats.
I guess I am very lucky to have a sweet cuddle lap cat! Cats all have their own personalities that are unique and fun.
What a lovely speech. Thank you Jackson!
"I am Clyde, and Clyde is good enough!!!" ❤😻❤
Jackson, sorry but I just admire and love you so much! You changed my perception of cats over 5 years ago and opened me up to the ability to master "observation, perception, and respect". It started to learn to understand my cats; it ended by me understanding how to appreciate and understand the world. Thank you Jackson. I am proud to be Cat-ta-fied!
YAASSS Jackson, yes. Respect them as the individuals they are. That is catly love! You are a feline rockstar, and thank you.
Everything you said is correct. Some people needs to know that not all cats are the same. Like humans we have our own different personalities...some are cuddly, some are not.
My cat Patches is sad she is looking for Rusty but he crossed rainbow 🌈 bridge that cat was Rusty
That is so funny, he taught you!
Same
my cat Salem came to me as an abused adult cat who was abandoned on an empty farm in the desert when his owners decided to move without him and at first it seemed he would never want to be very close to humans but was grateful for food and a warm bed
You are so right about other cats changing the cats around them my Willis was a 2 yo feral rescue that was being dominated by possible brother in other foster home. He spent his first 2 weeks hiding out under my bed felt like we would never see his cute furry face. But I was already fostering a mother and her new kittens and 1 day the kittens found a couple of plastic bb's the hockey game started on my wood floor willis got so curious and excited and his entire personality shifted to confidence, feeling secure and he is a love sponge ready to greet everyone and has never hidden anywhere ever since
@@PlizzardThe i am so glad to hear another fur baby out there found more fun and happiness in life
@@anamarie435 I am glad your Salem found you , Willis certainly blossomed because of the kittens hockey game and went on to act as an ambassador for the 2 years 19 cat kittens we fostered.
Love the cat you have ❤️🐾
I love your ramblings. It's so funny but encouraging!
I’ve known so many cats in my 46 years of life and each are pretty unique and awesome in their own way.
Lol.. Omgawd i LOVE your dorky personality. You are definitely in touch with your "most mojo" lol
Oh WOW - THAT WORKED!!!!
I just needed to learn a little cat behavior - thank you!!!
Exactly what I do.
I have 3 cats. All purr at different times in different ways. 1 is a lap cat, 1 is a snuggler, and 1 is a "booper". They are all amazing.
And I do.😀
❤
My cat wants to cuddle all the time. She’s a complete smooch to the point of almost smothering me.
I have 11 rescues, all are lap cats:-), they are loved and happy. Only one rescued bengal cat needed a year to look at others and trust purr and sleep with us. Great job you do Jackson!
I need to train my cat to not cuddle omg hes so clingy 😂 it was cute as a lil kitten sleeping on my neck but now i cant breathe
Lol my cat can be very affectionate (when he wants to be!) But lately he has sometimes decided to lay right up against my face (when I'm laying on my side). Needless to say, no breathing in that position either!
Ugh, seriously sometimes it really is too much. Especially if you got allergies and the cat sheds like crazy...
Aww! Mine hasn’t laid on my neck since he was a kitten, I miss that!
@@cyn725 I miss my kitten sitting on my shoulder. Too big for that now lol
I would love that. Backpack cat, etc.
I was a volunteer cat cuddler at a shelter. It really helped to get the cats adopted. Of course I always respected that some did not want to cuddle. But the ones who did really came far with the time I spent with them
HILARIOUS AND EDUCATIONAL at the same time.
JACKSON is making the WORLD A BETTER PLACE.
(And CUTE too )
♡♡♡♡
Yes jackson is cute
The best when he was cracking himself up! 🤣
My beautiful black panther Boo was born in the streets and fed and taken care of by a good soul that also took care of his parents…
He was trapped at five months and I adopted him on January 10, 2018...
But because I respected and never forced anything on him he is now a curious, loving, talkative, playful yet shy with strangers, young adult… He purrs like a little machine when I look and talk to him and demands attention WHEN he decides of course!…
I respect his bouderies and enjoy and relish in interacting with him when he choses to...
*I think my cat is gay*
I completely agree with ya! Cats have personalities and their own way of doing things. Their individuality makes them even more amazing in my eyes.
My favorite part to reading a cats behavior is watching what they do with thier tails, very communicative
Love the one you’re with!
All 3 of my cats are wonderfully different and I love them each because of who they are!
Thanks Jackson!
Beautiful! I like that he respects the cats boundaries and encourages everyone else to do the same.
Life is a box of cats man .. you never know what you’re going to get 😸
Very true video. All babies are different. Cats are just fur-babies. Love them for who THEY are.
As long she s happy, oh and my hub,lol.. never been a cat lover, now? yep...
the older cat that i saved, yep..he d cuddle day and night.
You are a good partner. Some people actually get jealous if a pet prefers the partner, it's so sick to me.
Always Tired -- I had a "one person cat" before. She loved me but tolerated my husband and boys. She didn't care about anyone but me. ♡♡ I miss her.
girl cats like men better, boy cats like women humans better. must be the smell
That's awesome! Just that you got a feral cat to trust you is a huge win. Keep on lovin the kitty and who knows what will come?
Aine Eithne -- keep trying. We had a feral cat who decided people are pretty cool when he turned 6 years old. I'm not sure why that clicked. But he started seeking us out and slowly began enjoying human companionship and petting.
My kitty loves to cuddle, heck he was practically spooning me the other night. He loves to love!
My cat looks to me for every thing but cuddles...that's reserved for my son....go figure! LOL
Thanks - all cats are beautiful !
My cat trained herself to cuddle 😂
one or two years after I got her, just once she was a little spoon
now (4 years later?) she's SUCH a cuddle bug! Every night and every morning she has to lay with me under the blankets
The kitten I’m adopting out loves to snuggle and give kisses. She HATES being picked up at all.
My cat has trained me to pet her whenever she feels like it. Love it 🥰
Great message and a good reminder to love the cats we have.
My cat is so loyal to me. He follows me around, sleeps with me, I wake up at night just to give him treats and brush him. Hes 18.8 pounds and is a pure white long-hair with orange eyes. ❤
I've had times working too much when I felt guilty and came home just to play with my cat I was neglecting.
My cat loves cuddles every morning. Before the vyvanse kicks in haha
I learned a lot about cats because of you and thanks for that☺️
Me too :)
Because of you? Really?
It's thanks to you. You learned postive things. Like, seriously....
I learned a lot too from Jackson, and my relationships with cats have improved alot
Fabulous rant! Jackson is great and so right on, as usual...
hahahaha
I have one kitty, 13 years old now, who only gets cuddly when he hangs out with me outside in the sunshine. Then he melts into pretty much a kitten.
Yess I love this, thank you Jackson! Cats are individuals not stuffed animals ❤️
Wow! How curious she has no purr. She sounds like she does love you very much though :)
My brother’s cat literally sleeps in his arms, all. Night. Long. I’m hella jealous 😭
I made ("trained") my cat to want to be cuddled by making her jealous 😄
My female white cat was being too posh, she loved to be cuddled when she was few months old, but when she's like 2-3 years old she began to act she wanted to go away when I tried to cuddle her. She was starring at us 😏
Then the next time (about few days after) I tried to cuddle her she wants to be cuddled and enjoyed and felt loved being cuddled and never run away since then 😄
I think since then she knows that me hugging her and carrying her around is me being loving to her and she loves being loved 😊
What a great video with a realistic message. Thank you!
I trained my ex-feral cat to be a soppy softy lap cat who asks for cuddles with the slow blink.
I'm guessing you are confusing.. "Gave him enough confidence to be himself" with "making him do what I want over time"
