My vet refuses to declaw. If someone asks about declawing, she explains why it's a very bad idea. If they insist, she tells them to go elsewhere. She'd rather lose the business than declaw a cat.
I once was a toddler who wanted to reach the ceilling... My mom and my forehead found that it wasn,t a good idea to have access to get up to the ceilling lol
I have to admit, many years ago I was too slow when it came to cleaning my cat's litter. Then I adopted a cat who was pretty smart. If her litter needed cleaning, she would drag one of my favourite shirts over to her litterbox and covered the box with my shirt. Every time she did this, when I saw what the condition of the box was, I apologized to the cat and cleaned it right away. Eventually, I kept on top of the situation and she didn't have to cover the box with my shirt. It only took a little while to train me.
When I moved in with my boyfriend, I had 2 cats, he had 1 & his disabled mom that lived with him had 1. Their girl kitties wouldn't let my girl, Snickers, down the hall to the litter boxes, so she peed on our bed, several times. We finally got the message & have had a litter box in our bedroom since just for her (all 4 use it now, she doesn't mind). We cleaned the bed really well & no pee issues since. We also got her checked out by the vet who said she was healthy & she needed a litter box in the bedroom (bf didn't want one in our bedroom, I didn't care, I've had a litter box either in my bedroom or attached bathroom since I got her, it's no biggie to me). All kitties are fixed & indoor only too. They are all good at training us & they're freaking adorable, especially Snickers. She's still skittish & stays in the bedroom a lot, we're working on getting her out more, we have the cat calming plug in things throughout the apt, they help some. Her sisters can be catholes though. She's fine with her brother (my other kitty I brought up here).
Lol my cat decided he didn’t like the litter box and used the sandpit outside. I tried switching out a couple new ones different brands and I could never persuade him to use it so I ended up just giving up and leaving him to use the sandpit.
I rescued 2 Siamese that were front-paw declawed. One had phantom pain the rest of her life. The other would lose her balance and fall. NEVER DECLAW CATS!
It's so awful, I adopted a cat who was front declawed and the absolute fear she has when I get anywhere near any of her paws.she hasn't shown any signs of pain or balance issues thankfully but it still sucks
Speaking from a country where you can get a 20k fine, or be jailed for declawing a cat (and a vet can be struck off), it dumbfounds me that it's still legal in any developed country.
I, too, have 2 Siamese that are front-paw declawed by previous "family". I feel so sorry for them, and wonder what special care should be provided to cats in this sad situation. I try to give them the best life possible, but wonder if there are things that I should be aware of to make their lives more comfortable. (For example, it scares me every time they jump from the top of a table -- I fear that they are hurting their paws. )
We found a our senior kitty declawed at the shelter and I felt really bad for him! We actually ended up adopting him and he has WAY more problems than our other cats! Just his overall confidence is different than our clawed cats! I am BEGGING all the people out there to STOP declawing cats! They are beautiful beings that deserve our respect!
Declawing should be illegal everywhere. If you don’t want cats to scratch stuff then DONT own a cat! That’s like “de-teething” a dog, because you don’t want it to bite or chew stuff. They’re animals, that’s just what they do.
I just clip the tips off my cat's claws because she occasionally scratches on her own face at the eye corner. When I see that she's scratched herself, I clip.
Where I live, 90% of landlords don't allow cats at all, and all the rest require declawing. It's either declaw, abandon your cat, or be homeless. Not everyone can afford to own a home. Even if you rent, you pay more for the joy of having a pet. Hundreds in un-refundable pet deposits and usually extra rent.
@@ShadoeLandman Where do you live? Cat lovers might like to know so that they can be forewarned not to move there. I've been a renter, home owner, and then landlady. I've got lots of my own cats and even have allowed one renter to keep a dog. When housing is in high demand, the landlords can call the shots. So their anti-pet attitudes will prevail. Yet in general, people are more messy and destructive to rented property than animals.
in sweden it is illegal declawing cats. if a veterinarian does this to a cat, he / she risks losing his / her license, and the owner of the cat risks a fine for even asking to do such a thing. the cat can also be taken from the owner and placed with someone else. and the owner can get an animal ban for the rest of his life
When I decided to get two kittens, my mom was opposed to the idea of me installing several shelves for them to walk on and buying a lot of toys. She was like: "Okay, but you don't wanna buy _too_ many toys for them or install too many shelves and cat trees. Remember that it's your house, not theirs." I was honestly too dumbfounded to speak. That's like saying: "I wanna get a dog, but not walk too much, because it doesn't fit in my routine." It's not a luxury for them, it's basic needs 😂 From the moment you get a pet, it's _our_ house, not _mine._
"I'm not here to shame you. If that was your story in the past, that's okay, but please don't let that be your story in the future." Was very profound and I will now quote this for everything
this quote reminds me of myself in the past quite a bit. I have trichotillomania and pulled out my cats’ whiskers until we got a second one. the first one “didn’t care” as much as the second one. our second kitty was truly traumatized from it. I stopped immediately once I noticed how much it bothered him, and sometimes now I will cry thinking about how I did such a cruel thing to them. he didn’t trust me for a few years after that. but slowly, I built up his trust again. and now we are inseparable and I am so grateful. he sleeps in my arms, begs me to pick him up to hold him for 5 minutes, cries outside the bathroom door, sleeps on my lap when I’m at my desk, etc etc. I love him very much and I’m sure he loves me too. he actually LOVES his whiskers being pet! definitely learn from the past and do better in the future.
Declawing is not a mistake. It's abuse, plain and simple. Declawing limits a cat's ability to climb, defend themselves/fight, hunt, and as you pointed out above, use the litter box properly or even walk comfortably. People who declaw their cats and know these issues exist beforehand, are self-centered and think of the animal as nothing more than a toy for their entertainment.
I haven't watched the video yet, but if Jackson really refers to declawing as a "mistake", especially if he refers to it as one even in cases where the (prospective) owner knows before making the decision to declaw that it is extremely harmful, he might be doing so to not alienate viewers who really should watch his videos. The kinds of people who'd even consider declawing a cat. But in my opinion such careful language alienates other viewers like you.
In many places it used to be part of a kitten package vet visit to include neutering/spaying. Many owners honestly didn't know. It more avaliable knowledge now, but there are some that don't know. I'm not sure what the laws are in my state for sure. I know the city I live in a cat must have a license and cannot be allowed to run free. There is no problem in the city with feral cats. There is a catch neuter release problem to help reduce the feral population.
@@camelopardalis84 people are stupid. So yes, if you're not very smart when it comes to cats, it is a mistake one could make. I mean, think about it this way, we used to take out tonsils for no reason when it turns out that they're actually beneficial to our immunity, and should only do so when there's a medical necessity. (Same with circumcision imho, but that is not a conversation some people are ready to have).
My brother has had cats for years, but never really had plants. He recently picked up gardening, and his kitties follow him into the yard, so I sent him the toxic plants video. He answered the same day, "I was gonna try some of those. Thank you!" Cat daddy potentially saved 5 kitties with his knowledge sharing 🙂
I can't have plants because I don't water them and they die. LOL. My son got me a mini cactus for my birthday. Thank goodness because I just watered it three days ago... after not watering it for two months! lmao!
One of the worst stories I've heard of declawing was of a wild cat. Someone had a pet bobcat or lynx, had it defanged and declawed, and once it became too much of a problem they released it into the wild. It was found starving by hikers and was rescued by a sanctuary.
Another horrifying thing to add when is from a recent conversation I had with someone who wanted a pet cougar. When I brought up that it could still maul them, even if strictly trained, they said they would just do this to it. I hope that person never gets a pet.
The food bit is so true. When my cat was about 8 years old she got kidney issues. The vet was like "this is so bad we should put her to sleep" but I refused and only bought special food for her for those issues. She is going to be 16 in february ❤
I had a similar issue with my boy. I had been feeding him what I thought was a good quality food, but it was basically garbage. My boy was around the same age when he started having kidney issues and getting persistent hairballs. We slowly started changing his diet to Prey Model and he was better for a long time. But some of the damage the junky food did never really went away. He left us a few months ago in August at 12 💔. I credit the food change with keeping him here for so long. Never long enough, but I’m glad to have gotten those years. Never feeding cats that junk again. Know what’s in the food you give your cats, people!
@@lastupenda3049 I am sorry for the loss of your lovely boy, and so glad he had all those lovely years with you. There is so much to learn, isn’t there? I never realised how much I would love my cats- they are my family ❤️
I think if you know what declawing really is and you still want to do it, don't own a cat. Period. Get a fish or something. Also, I learned the very hard way on not taking my kitty to the vet soon enough when he started to act subtly different. Great tips Jackson!!!
So the cats should be left on the streets or killed at shelters because landlords only accept declawed cats, the few that accept cats at all (Where I live, the vast majority of cats that end up at a shelter are euthanized almost immediately, and just being allowed to have a cat or rescue a cat is a feat. If you would rather the cats just suffer in other ways...
@@ShadoeLandman or put on the plastic caps or move to another appartment. If your cat was your kid and your landlord asked you to cut his fingers. Would you do it?
My cat was a stray that came into my life already de clawed. I get so angry when he will flinch, stiffen his front leg in pain. I actually know a person who lost 4 fingers at the first knuckle on one hand in an accident. That was 8 years ago and he still has shooting pains. I know my cat does too. Its cruel.
That's awful someone would declaw a cat then put them outside to fend for themselves without their claws for protection. People can be so horrendous, animals are superior to people, I have always said this.
It’s crazy that some housing establishments require cats to be declawed for residents to be able to have them as pets. I find this absolutely terrible and inhumane
I live in Omaha and when first moving here encountered several apartments requiring declaw. Needless to say, I found other another place to live. But these are big property management companies and I'm certain their declaw requirement j has resulted in thousands upon thousands of mutilated cats over the years.
Hahaha we all live in the house / flat of our cats 🤣👌. I almost bough a doormat saying welcome in the house of "cat name" ,in big , and it's humans "name and name", in small text size. 😂
I just adopted a rescue cat who had been 4-paw declawed. She is petrified of EVERYTHING. I wonder if she will ever learn to trust me. She isn't as scared as three months ago, but she spends most of her days hiding. Breaks my heart!
Why do folk do these things I can not understand. We have a 10 year old cat that was rescued by my daughter (it was a friend's cat) she thought it was kitten as so small but was actually 12-18mths. Peanut had been underfed and everytime it went to litter tray child in house use to pick up and shake it in litterbox. My daughter thankfully removed it from the situation.. Peanut was freaked took 6 mths for it to be in same room as us would not use litter tray despite as having multi litter trays and different litters to try nope would pee and poo on floor beside it. Slowly trust developed but took 3 years when suddenly she leapt onto my husbands knee for a head butt and has been his shadow since.. She will seek attention out now but does compared to our other cats like her own space will only come on her terms.. Toileting still a issue will never use litter tray and I can understand that we have got acceptable solution we put puppy training pad on hard floor near litter tray and she will use it acceptable to Peanut and easy clean for us. It is about compromise Peanut is, a loving cat with issues but show me a human without issues. Your fur baby has had a hard time will love, patience it will come to you in its own time. I am glad it has new guardian that understands. I hope you have a long and happy life like we have had with ours. I have had 11 dogs 6 cats all rescued and average life age has been 19 years they have all brought such joy.. and there issues are what made them more special.
Oh ffs, aren’t some people fucking awful? Your poor baby. I hope she improves with your love and patience. I’m sure she will. Cats - all domesticated animals - respond to both those things very well over time. ♥️
Well, she’s been through a lot. She may have been at her previous home or at the shelter for 4 months, 6 months, a year, and then suddenly everything went away, and then again if she got used to her space, everything went away again. She’s had at minimum 4 traumatic transitions in her life, so you must be patient. Give her lots of options to sit and lay, and make sure that from wherever she is she can easily see the whole room and easily hide when threatened. You have to remember that hiding is literally her only defense, she has no other way to survive if taken by surprise. I imagine this must be constant terror, knowing that if a coyote or a kid snatches you up you’ve got zero means for fighting back. She never learned to trust anyone, and she’s never had a safe space to call her own. I’d get a few stuffed animals and sleep with them every night, then give her one. Wherever she’s hiding, make her a little spot in there, make sure she’s got a quiet safe place where no one can get to her, if she likes heights this will be easiest, but I imagine she’ll have difficulty climbing with no claws. Get her one of those self grooming tools, that cats can rub up on, so she can maybe get an itch if she has one. Think about where you position everything, get some of the little enclosed kitty beds, abd some open ones. imagine that she’s going to be in there, and she needs to know she has options, and she needs to see what’s coming. This is important with the food bowl and the water bowl, which should be in different places, minimum several feet apart, but also make the dish in a position where when she uses it her back is to a wall, and in front of her she can see all entry points. Same with litter box, put different ones all over the house and make it a defensible position. You may want to consider feliway it’s a synthetic hormone that calms cats bc it’s the thing they are rubbing on stuff with their face, so they recognize it. Also I’m pretty sure Sherpa and extremely soft blankets help. But most of all, just giving her every possible way to find her dignity and sense of security and letting her come at her own time, you will eventually have the greatest kitty in the world. It may take a year, but I believe you can do it Oh, and I’d look into the best kitty litter too, one that’s best for her fragile paws Good luck, she’s lucky to have you!
Try trailing a feather toy near her. My v v timid cat who was scared of everything gained confidence in leaps & bounds when I tried playing. She's goes mad for feather toys . She even pats my arm now when she wants her toy which I never in a million years thought I'd see! Also try vanilla yoghurt on your finger or tiny pieces of cooked chicken . Food & treats build trust.
I dont have any of these problems with my rescue. I adopted a beautiful Tuxedo female, 3yrs old. She had been tortured and terrified by 2 kids to the point of being frightened by everything, plastic grocery bags, foil, loud nosies and strangers walking by my apartment. Shes now 5 and I've been working with her for 2 yrs! Shes made wonderful progress im happy to say‼️ Zivia is the name she came with which means, "Light of God" in Hebrew....Zivia has been such a gift and blessing in my life and I in hers. Zivia never has meowed before, I'm sure she lost her voice from those cruel kids. I'm so happy to say, she meowed today 11/4/23 for the very first time‼️♥️♥️🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛ Im so excited by this happiness and joy I had to share about it‼️
I'm so happy for you and for her! Thank you for taking the time with her. Cats need love, too. Some people just do not understand pets in general. They are not a toy for children. It took almost 5 years for my cat, Stella, to be on my lap alone. She bonded to the cat we had at the time, who was 10 when she was just a couple of months old. She was always wherever he was. He passed in June and now we have a kitten for her to play with. It's a slow road, but I know she will be happier with company when I go out rather than being alone. Thanks for sharing your good news!
I swear we have the same cat! I’m like her best friend instead of her mom but she follows me around the house meowing all the time now that she’s comfortable!
I knew someone who had just adopted a cat from a friend of hers and when I was at her house and observed how stinky and dirty the litterbox was, I asked her how often she changed it and she said "maybe once a week". I was shocked and disgusted (inwardly) but nicely told her it needed to be done pretty much every day. She seemed so surprised. So I said "Ok, so you use the toilet at least a few times a day, right?" "Yeah" she said. "Alright, now imagine that you do that but flush it only once a week, that's what you're doing to your cat..." "That got through to her. It drives me crazy the things that don't occur to people with their cats and how to take care of them.
In the 80s as a kid my cat was never allowed inside, so after my 13 yr old greyhound die, few months later I want say I wanted to adopt a cat just b/c I wanted a cat but really I actually wanted a cat so I could have a litterbox in my house to scoop, yes I looked forward to having a inside cat just so I could have a litterbox in my house b/c my parents would never allowed both in their house as a kid.
When I bought my Maine Coon I noticed in the sale contract there was a paragraph about me not being allowed to declaw the cat. Well, that was the first I heard about some people doing it. In my opinion if you don't want to deal with claws, you shouldn't have a cat. Mutilating animals (declawing cats, cutting dogs' tails and ears, etc.) just so they suit what we want is abuse.
40 years ago, my parents had a dog (idk the breed in english) that "requiered" cutting it's ears... At the time, it was MANDATORY... I'm so glad that we evolved from that to banning this cruel process. Now, not ony it is forbbiden, but it is punishable by law as animal abuse... Finally a bit of common sense. PS: got a maine coon too .. and boy do he uses his claws on me! I'd change that for nothing in the world. OK ... maybe a bit of nail clipping from time to time ;)
Yes, I totally agree. When I adopted my kitten Remy, part of the adoption agreement was that we would never have her declawed. I am so glad that Give Purrs a Chance (the cat cafe we adopted Remy from) had that in the agreement!!
I heard that cutting dog's tail sometimes is recomended for dog's safety and comfort. It was talking about preventing "happy tail" it is a condition when dog will constantly waggle its tail so hard that it would hit everything around and couse constant bleeding and open wounds. So to prevent possible infections, pain and sudden death it may be better to cut tail off
@@SaltyCatling That is often a reason given, but ask yourself this. Why is this a problem in only a handful of countries? Docking tails isn't legal in Europe and many other places, and there isn't any problems with "happy tails". Could it be that the breeders are the problem and not the dogs? I'm 50, and docking tails and cropping ears haven't been legal in my country unless there is a medical reason for it/ the dog have been in an accident or something, since I was a toddler. I can honestly not remember when I last saw a dog without a tail or ears. I mean, except for on youtube and videos from the US where they seem obsessed to it to their dogs. You can't even neuter or spay your dogs here without a medical reason. Although you can spay/neuter your outdoor cats to avoid growth of the stray population.
It was surprising to me when I first heard Jackson talk about declawing, it seemed so obvious that it's a cruel procedure. It's illegal in my country, along with other stuff like cutting off a dog's tail, etc., so I was really taken aback when I learned it is not only legal in other countries, like the US, but even somewhat widespread.
Same! I’m from the uk and I never knew declawing was a thing! Since though, I’ve learnt that even before declawing was outlawed here no vet would do it anyway, because it was common knowledge it was just cruel and evil, and that’s probably why I’d never heard of it before. It shocks me that people don’t realise how horrible it is, as it’s so obvious to me!
I was at the vet with my cat just yesterday and when I was in the waiting room, I heard the receptionist talking about declawing on the phone. "Yes, we can declaw your cat". ??????? How can you work at a vet office and think that's ok??? I was fuming. I'll be going elsewhere from now on. I can't believe a thing like this is still legal (I live in Canada).
@@Blindbladethehunter Let your vet know you are not OK with declawing and that is why you won't be back. If they hear it from enough people they might decide to stop.
I'm in the US. Very few landlords allow cats, and as far as I know, all of the ones remotely close to me who do allow cats require declawing. It's not nice to declaw, but here that's the only way most cats can have a home.
you're so lucky! my cat doesn't stay in my arms, nor purrs in my arms. he finally does purr when he's being pet, and lately he's been coming nearby to get some love so maybe that's just him getting older. he's just barely 2 now. still a young little guy. he acts like a teenager
@@jeronica5148 thank you for saving the kitty! The fact that you are proactively trying to learn how to care for your new house mate, is really awesome!
When you talked about socializing cats it made me think how afraid our cats are of other humans. They are Covid babies because we adopted them as kittens right before Covid lockdowns started and they had no interactions with other humans. They are deathly afraid when even one friend or family member is in the house. A good video might be how to start socializing them again. I’m probably not the only one in this type of situation!
I worry about that with my two. Oddly, it's my older (5) cat who I can tell had a bad past home and was passed between rescues who seems fine...curious about visitors, hopped on my dad's lap and head-butted him, etc. My younger one has gotten more hesitant. Thankfully he's very play and food motivated, so as soon as he comes out from under the bed covers, visitors can win him over quickly.
also have a (late) covid baby. she's less afraid of people than other animals but she still hates anyone/anything new. I just moved and now she's surrounded by new people and animals. it isn't going great lol
This happened with my cats too! If you can introduce them to one person slowly at a time. Have them just sit in your house not bothering them, maybe offering treats or leaving their scent in the house to slowly get them used to other scents. One of my cats is extremely shy and scared of people but we have two relatives who come over of whom she likes and enjoys their company enough to sit next to them! Best of luck 👍🏼
I'm with Daisy Ann, slow and steady meetings with the guest(s) not in your cat's face. If there's a high place they can observe and smell them from, even better. If it's close to meal time, have your guest(s) serve it. I also have a covid kitty (who my distant family affectionately call Covie 😒) and this is what I've been doing. He is of a social breed so he's curious, but cautious at first. I also made the choice to teach him not to hide under things from the jump. He has many high places to go and "his" spots in each room if he needs a safe/distanced space to observe, so hiding isn't really in his nature. I'm always up for a new video tho lol
I rescued a cat and they had him declawed x 4. Yes, all four paws were maimed. It makes me so sick. Needless to say he is now MY baby and he gets ALL the extra love ❤️
Same for my boi. It affects everyday Shit like his ability to turn quickly when running or to stop himself when he jumps onto things. Cant itch himself, can’t get food out of those treat toys where they have to manipulate the toy to get the food
When I read about declawing and I imagined how it would feel not being able to scratch an itch. Cats need claws for grooming as well. It would make your pet miserable and yes it should be illegal.
No, respect for animals needs to become a part of our culture. If you make it illegal people will just do it illegally and we won't even be able to tell, which is even worse.
@@libertarianbitcoiner1014 I respectfully disagree. In France, it simply doesn't exist. The only way you can hear about it is when the news talk about circus managers who do that to tigers and lions. And now, some laws are in progress to forbid having wild animals in the circus industry. Things can evolve.
We found our baby when he was about 9 months old. He had been declawed ON ALL FOUR PAWS and then thrown out into "nature" ... yet, today (5 years later) he's the sweetest boy in the world. We try to make sure he doesn't hurt his paws, and take extra care. But yes. PLEASE DON'T DECLAW YOUR CAT. 😿
Oh my god, how awful! What are people thinking? You should never declaw a cat but you should never never never put a declawed cat out in nature, they will be killed! Awe poor baby :( I’m so glad he ended up with someone who is such a good cat parent she watches videos on how to better care for your cats in her spare time :)
You tell me those idiots gave the cat a handicap and then threw him out when it has nothing to defend itself with anymore. What the actual FUCK ... > some people should never own animals...
Speaking as a vet, THANK YOU FOR TALKING ABOUT DECLWING. Its so so cruel, and its actually illegal in my (third world!) country. There is never a reason for abusing a cat like that. Also, thank you for talking about nutrition in this and other videos. The majority of illnesses we see in pet cats can be traced back to poor nutrition over time - the most common endocrine disorder in cats these days is type 2 diabetes due to obesity (because, as you said, cats are carbohydrate intolerant!), and the most common cause of death in older cats is chronic kidney disease, which is accelerated and exacerbated by imbalanced diets.
Some people think it’s weird that I treat my cat and dog differently, but I treat my dog like a dog and my cat like a cat. Great helpful info in your videos! Thank you!
We adopted an older cat from a cat rescue outfit. Turns out we are his fifth guardians. He shows every sign of post traumatic stress syndrome. What happened to him, no one will say. So, as a result we are dealing with a lot of behavioral problem, mostly violent. Lucky for him, we are willing to work through it. He is having fewer of those Jeckle and Hyde moments, but he still has nightmares waking up crying for help like he had been abandoned and neglected. The wife says he has severe separation anxiety when I leave.
We adopted a dog with an unknown traumatic background that we had to try to figure out from his reactions to certain things. He panicked in enclosed spaces or refused to go in them, scared of loud noises and young men. He was also scared of children, especially in groups. However, with a whole of love and some training he became a devoted and protective member of our family who loved our kids and eventually our grandchild, even if he still hated strangers up until the day he died. Sounds like your cat is already on the road to recovery if he's bonding with you enough to have separation anxiety, He's come to view you as safety and comfort. I hope the poor little guy soon has more restful sleeps. Good luck.
I understand the separation anxiety part! I adopted my older cat when he was about 2 years old (he's nearly 11 now) and he has always had separation anxiety. It is....better....now that we have 2 other cats to distract him and keep him company, but it is not uncommon for him to be in a frenzy/panic if he wakes from a nap and both my partner and I are out of the house.
😿 awww, poor thing! We ended up being my baby's 4th owner due to no fault of her own. She's sweet, well behaved, and I will never understand how she went through 3 people before finding her forever home. She wouldn't even walk on, let alone sit on laps for the first year or two that we had her. It's very clear she was kicked or thrown from laps, because she was terrified of them. She also would panic if you'd pick her up. Now, after much patience and coaxing, she's a lap kitty (will wait for you to get comfy to come sit) and she's ok with being picked up, but doesn't like to be moved around while being held. We're still working on that one. It's taken years, and she's still clearly got some PTSD, but it's waning. That's over 5yrs. Kitties with PTSD just need extra time and love, and good on you for making an effort 😻
@@corvidsRcool Long ago, our family dog was rescued off the streets. She had had some sort of serious problem with men, since for a long time she would bark at them nonstop. It took a long time before she changed. Before she got spayed, she had one litter of three, of which two survived, one got adopted, we kept the other, who never had her mother's problem.
I saw an apartment complex that required declawing cats. I sent an email to the complex explaining that declawing is inhumane, and that claw caps can be used to prevent scratching.
When I emailed my (cat friendly) apt that I planned on adopting some kitties, one of the things I mentioned was that I wouldn’t be getting them declawed. They emailed me back and said they would NEVER require declawing because it is inhumane. It made me so happy to see they were truly cat friendly.
"Having a cat in your house is like having a toddler that can reach the ceiling." YES. I had to put child locks on my upper cabinets because my cat figured out how to get in there and eat our bread!
LOL. OMG my cat does that. I need to get some child proof locks cause of my 16 month old cat. My other 2 cats weren't too bad as kittens. So I didn't have child proof locks for them. But the one I have now acts like a 2 year old child ALL THE TIME and I need to get some of those locks just cause of her.
So glad my 1911 house still has the original kitchen cabinets. Wood drawers with no rollers and doors with real latches that you have to turn a know to open. Has kept many a pet and toddler out of things.
My cat knows how to open doors that have the handle style knobs on them, luckily most of the door knobs are regular round ones do he can't grip them lol
My cat just will not eat wet food, he begs for tuna and when I give him a spoonful he licks up the juice but leaves the meat, or he just wants me in the kitchen and while I'm spooning it out he goes to the living room so he can jump out and "get me" when I walk by, paws out to the side just like a kitten, in the air from 5 feet away, he's my absolute best friend since my wife passed away, I've learned so much from you Mr. Galaxy, Thank you for imparting your wisdom
My friend and her husband managed to find a vet who would declaw their beautiful male, Maine Coon mix. They know I'm opposed to declawing, so they have tried to hide it from me. But on my last visit, I could see that he was ill-tempered, walking flat-footed and shaking his little paw in discomfort. They just bought a lot of brand new furniture for their new house, so I'm sure this is why they had him declawed. I'm staying in close contact so I can adopt him when his inevitable behavioral problems make it impossible for them to handle him. He has a home with me, no matter what!
On my farm I have a small pride of barn cats. A wonderful little guy named Arthur (who gets flea and tick protection} comes to see me every morning with for breakfast, runs in the house, jumps on the scratch pad, goes like crazy and runs outside! There's always a way. Too bad for that beautiful Maine Coon.
Yesss! I dont think they do this at all in the Netherlands either, i have never heard of it. It is such a strange idea to me, none of my cats have ever scratched me or my furniture; they know where to scratch and they have a ton of places they can use. Also, people know they bring home a cat, and a cat comes with claws.
@@dudessjoddie Illegal in Germany as well, and I also believe France and Austria. I live in AZ in the USA, and declawing has been outlawed in my state as well as of 2018. Also illegal in California. (Jan Griffiths).
@@HumanOptimization oh grow up! Humans remove their sex organs out too! Ever heard of a vasectomy or hysterectomy? But we don't go around chopping the ends of our fingers off!
I was alarmed to find out declawing is legal in Washington. I just checked the ASPCA's (American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) "Position Statement" on declawing. They say they are against it for all of the reasons everyone here has cited, but in the case of a cat that cannot be adopted due to extreme behavioral issues even after all other interventions have been attempted, they would make an exception if the animal would otherwise be euthanized. That doesn't sound very common-sensical to me - ? Because I'm not sure a psychotic cat with behavioral issues is going to become more adoptable if it is then also maimed - ? But I gather they do not support attempts to legislate against declawing. I find this disappointing.
When I was a kid, we had a set of brothers from birth until they died at 17 or so. They were handled by everyone, including us little kids, from birth and were the most laid-back, friendly cats I ever had. We were not allowed to mishandle them (parents taught us how to treat them), but they were so comfortable with us, we could walk around with them draped over our shoulders like a stole. They loved being held and pet, but they were rugged indoor/outdoor cats. Slept inside ebery night. Came and went freely during the day. Hunted various critters around our large property on the edge of town. Went to the neighbor lady's house every afternoon for a snack. Always came back around the house right before the school bus dropped us off in the afternoon. They were so great.
My parents declawed my cat when I was a kid and watching her walk 16 years later... heartbreaking. Trust jackson when he says do not declaw your cats. I'm convinced now it's why she has such fear of other cats. Her main line of defense was ripped out of her. It's so not worth it, y'all.
It's like cutting off the tip of your fingers !..It's desgusting !. My cat isn't a pet, and he hates it when he gets treat like one..He's my companion. He spends time outside whenever he wants.
My mother had our cats declawed when we were kids. Back then, some vets (thankfully not all of them though) would offer declawing in the same package as spaying/neutering. Thankfully now she knows better. Both my cat and my brother's have their claws. Mine doesn't like getting her nails trimmed, but she has plenty of cat trees and scratching posts, so I never had a problem with her clawing my furniture.
Same. And my mom loves a damn deal 🙄 I also let my younger cat out but he's a yard guard. Luckily, he doesn't like to wander but he loves keeping bunnies and mice out the garden. And ripping up the trees. Never trim his nails. Lol. He's kinda perfect. Even with sharp claws 💕
I cant believe that declawing has to be on your list. Here in germany its illegal to do it and could get the vet potentially banned o_o So disgusting. But thank you so much for mentioning it and educating ppl!
In an ideal world, the procedure would only be done in a case of medical emergency, like an injury that got infected and the amputation was the only way to save the cat's paw, or leg, or even its life.
I love how you are strongly against declawing. Declawing should be a crime... If you don't want claws, don't keep a cat, try another pet. Cats have claws, deal with it... Appreciate them, train them, love them for what they are. Don't chop off their toes. It's disgusting, cruel, and wrong. Love you Jackson.
The thing about flowers is SO important. My sister was given a bouquet of some flowers that included lilies, and we knew they were dangerous for cats so we kept them in her room and kept the cats out of there for the time the flowers would be there. But they snuck in. And we caught them sniffing the flowers. One of the petals had a little bite taken out of it. We googled it and found out just how poisonous lilies are and we rushed them both to the emergency vet, where they had to get their stomachs pumped and stayed overnight. It was a really scary (and expensive!) time. Both cats were totally fine afterward, but it was extremely stressful for them and it took a few days to recover. Now we check every flower in every bouquet or gift and if there's *anything* that could pose a risk we re-gift it or throw it out in the outside trash bin. We're taking no chances.
They are so common in bouquets and so many people don't know. I really wish vendors were required to put a warning sticker on the bouquets that contain lillies
That's a great idea! They are indeed super-popular because theyre so showy in bouquets (which I hate, because they're SO allergenic!! 😫) Apparently they're not great for small humans who put things in their mouth, either? Honestly, I didn't know any of this before watching the vid & suspect most other people don't either. A discreet warning label seems like an easy-to-implement precaution.
I didn't know how bad declawing a cat was until I saw "My Cat From Hell" featuring a poor little cat that was front declawed and had litter box issues. We never declawed our cats when I was growing up because my mom didn't believe in it. She always said it took away their main means of defense. Looking back, I'm glad she said NO to declawing. She taught me a valuable lesson, one that was emphasized after I saw that poor little cat on "My Cat from Hell". In 2018, my province of Nova Scotia became the first province in Canada to completely ban declawing and later on, made it illegal for all veterinarians and laymen to do it for cosmetic purposes. In fact, all cosmetic surgeries on dogs, cats, and other animals were outlawed here. The only time a vet can perform a declaw is if it is medically necessary for the cat - like the toe is injured beyond repair and would be too painful for the cat to keep for example. I'm extremely proud of my province and glad to see that no more cats will have their toes amputated. Being sick isn't an excuse either... If you're too sick to have a clawed cat, you are too sick to care for said cat.
I had a senior cat that came to us with no front claws and was abandoned and starving. We ended up literally moving houses and sneaking him with us just so we could keep him. He was the best boy ever, and I’m happy he got to spend the remainder of his life in comfort. He passed from a cancerous tumor in his jaw. RIP Orange.
Before your kitty came to you, he probably tried to hunt. With no claws, he couldn't catch anything. I'm happy for him that he found you, and you gave him good golden years. (Jan Griffiths).
The worst mistake : thinking you own a cat. You're his human! 😺"Love me, feed me, be my slaaaave" (PS : but he'll love you back soooo much if you make the daily effort to play, feed and cuddle him! - and keep the litter clean!!!)
@@ericapoe totally!!! They need their space but at our place their space is usually mine ... Even when I move! I met a woman who wouldn't give room to her cat although that breed is known for being close to humans... She'd Lock her in whatever room she was in... I was a plant lover, like plants hanging from the ceiling, on the walls, everywhere. But when we adopted a little rescue kitten, I really had no clue a good bit of household plants were toxic to cats until I saw an arrival about it. I was so scared for her, I spent the whole weekend researching and removing cause let’s be real, our new cat was far more important than the aesthetic of my home.
Last winter (Montana) I fed a starving cat in my back yard. She was so thankful she meowed and cried while eating. I swear she was saying, thank you! She’s now a member of our family and sleeps with us whenever she wants to. It took over six months to get her to walk in the back door. We love her so much. Such respect we have for one another. I’ve learned a lot from your videos. Thank you!
I'm very glad the cat came to you and got saved. Too many people don't seem to care. My mother and stepdad moved into a house on the countryside in December. After a couple of weeks, a skinny stray cat started to visit their barn. Mom immediately started to feed her, and the cat soon became more relaxed around her, but it wasn't until the first heavy snowfall that the cat decided it was time for her to move in with the new residents of the farmhouse. In early January, my mom sent me a picture of the world's grumpiest cat face just staring through the window from a snow-covered window sill. The next picture she sent me was of the same cat chilling on the couch after eating a whole bowl of cat food. Said cat now sleeps in my parents' bed and dutifully keeps the mice at bay. A friend scanned her shortly after she'd moved in and found she was chipped and registerd with the national pet database. They called her previous owner, a man from the neighboring village, who was happy to learn she was still alive almost a year after having run away. Just imagine, nobody had even cared to take her in, let alone getting her scanned in the meantime! The man gladly allowed my parents to keep her because he saw she was very happy in her new home and he didn't wanna risk for her to run away again. Cats are very aware of our ability to look after them, to the point of them actively asking for our help if they need it. For that reason, I am convinced that they are emotionally hurt when their request for help is turned down. Yes, cats DO have emotions, very much so! So, even if you cannot keep them, saving a stray cat's live is always the right thing to do. The least you can do in winter is to provide them with a bowl of water and food in a place that doesn't freeze over at night, and set up an insulated box for the cat to sleep in. Its what my late grandma always did for the strays that were too scared to come inside.
I had to sign a waiver with the humane society when I adopted my cats saying I wouldn't declaw my cats. Wouldn't have thought of it anyway...ugh. so sad.
It's sad to realize so many people own cats, but take very little time to learn what they require to thrive in our homes. We really appreciate your gentleness and your dedication to improving the lives of our family cats...thank you for this important work. :-)
My room mate had a cat that loved to use my computer chair as a scratching post. I bought a thrift shop computer chair for $15, the same as I paid for a nice catnip infused scratching post with toy ball inside. Chair still going strong years later though it definitely looks like a scratching post. He also sleeps on it when he is not in my bed. We are both very happy with this arrangement.
That’s awesome I bought a accent chair from offer up for 20$ so that wouldn’t scratch my sofa and they love it they sleep on it and scratch it and the cat tree I call it their chair lol
Same. We have a pair of chairs near where they'd scratch the sofa and they Like to scratch those better and those chairs were fifteen dollars for the pair of them.
It's taken me twenty-five years to fully appreciate and articulate my thoughts on the matter. I recall I recall the second two cats I took in since coming to Canada. My mother and sister wanted to get Bear and Clovis declawed because of grandma's old furniture. I argued and fought, them as if they were my cats... I inherited them from my brother. They were originally his but he failed to take them with him when he moved out. There was no plan as to who would look after who. So I more or less took over the handling and caring of these two ladies. I argued as to why. I argued over cost. My mother was willing to hear me out but my sister was immovable. I was also still in school but my sister has ways of getting my mother to do things that I wasn't able to do. So I was out at school when the deed was done, then I came home one horrible day to find that Bear and Clovis had been declawed. Needless to say, my rage was incandescent. I swore I would never forgive this crime. Bear and Clovis would suffer. My sister said "Oh, you don't know what you're talking about. They are house cats. They don't need their claws." That was when I'd run out of things to say. So I slapped her as hard as I could, across the face. She then hit me back. Needless to say. It ended badly for all concerned. Bear and Clovis's quality of life declined. They were angry, bitter cats. They didn't get along with anyone. They limped all their lives. They suffered and they were angry cats after what happened. They used to be so sweet and cuddly. But they hated everyone. It took them years just to be able to come to me for anything. Most of the time they hid in darkened corners and behind furniture. When I moved back down to the basement. The cats came with me. I made sure they would want for nothing. I ensured their every need and desire would be tended to. Bear and Clovis became my shadows... and my bed... well, I was borrowing my accommodations from them. When I went to bed every night... Both cats would curl up with me. I fed them, I watered them and I ensured their kitty boxes were clean. They had full and happy lives with me. Even after twenty years. My rage over what my sister and mother did. Still shines, as nightfall in winter that comes with only a single star. Just thinking about it, makes my blood boil. I don't think I'll ever get over it. They didn't even have the balls to look me in the eye either. They waited until I wasn't there to protect them.
I'm so glad they had you to make their lives as comfortable as you could. You're a kind soul. At least there's more specific info regarding what happens nowadays, detailing how grossly brutal the process truly is, and it's being outlawed in some places. I just wish it wasn't so late in coming.
I’m so sorry that happened to your sweet cats. That’s how my sister is with my mum so I understand, you did everything you could but you can never win in a family situation like that. It’s an awful dynamic to live with. You have every right to be angry, that’s the kind of anger that comes from love and care. I’m so thankful that you were able to help them heal emotionally and care for them so well ❤️
You're a good person. I'm sorry this happened to your kitties. They were so lucky to have you to give them the happiness in the end that they deserved. Bless you.
I’m 30 seconds into this video and my foster kitten stops attacking me, lays down on me, starts watching this video with me and purring 😹😹😹. You can’t make this stuff up. Cats love you Jackson!
I'm not a cat person but my daughter really wanted one. We decided to take some time to learn how to be cat moms and your videos have been invaluable. Yeah so it turns out this cat is my cat now? We're still learning what makes this adorable weirdo tick but you have been so helpful! Thanks for being you.
Congratulations on being claimed by a cat!!! They’re truly awesome creatures. Welcome to the cat lover’s club! I’m glad that your daughter likes kitties!!!!
They are great loving and low maintenance animals. People who like dogs more think cats are spoiled. Realize cats are more naturally independent solo hunters and don't travel in packs. But once you establish a relationship with them, they give plenty of affection. I have 2 cats and one even acts like a guard cat if she hears someone at the door, she walks up to it to "protect me" . Great animals 👍
I always knew declawing was wrong, and I'd never even seen what it looked like until this video and it made me gasp and turn away. I can't believe anyone ever thought declawing was OK, it looks torturous. I feel so much for those babes.
Yep same here. I can't believe people do this. Cats actually need their claws! If people can't handle the cat with claws they should not have a cat. Period.
Oh man........ Watching The Paw Project was so painful for me. It really is inhumane, and such a shame that many people don't realize just what it actually is.
About judging yourself harshly, remember this: Before you know something--you don't know it. That's just how it is. Cut yourself some slack, learn, give yourself a hug.
Thanks for this comment. I’ve owned cats since I was 23 and I declawed back then cuz I didn’t know ( was raised in a dog house) but once I learned, never again. There are always things in life we don’t know.
my partner at the time tried telling me we should declaw our cat. I told him straight up that NOOO WE DKNT DO THAT. I went through and explained everything and he was very happy to learn and never mentioned it again 😊
We are finally, praise the cat galaxy, changing this. So far, only a handful of states have made it illegal, but the number is growing as awareness spreads.
When I first brought Zivia home she stayed under a table for 5 hours. I talked to her the whole time saying mamma will never hurt you Zivia. Momma loves you. So when she came out she had a couple bites of food, came to me, smelled my hand and flopped down and exposed her tummy to me‼️ Another blessing we both shared🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️Thank you for allowing me to share our love for each other to all Cat Lover's ❣️ Dont give up on the new furrbabies just be patient and dont panic 🐈⬛🐈🐈⬛🐈🐈⬛🐈
Also a huge reason to not declaw is if the cat escapes, I always tell people “not every dog is cat friendly and have high prey drives, if the cat can’t defend itself and climb higher, that cat is gone” being a dog owner with a high prey drive, it can and will happen and I will always say that ugly truth.
Having claws isn't necessarily going to save them if dogs are after them. That's how our last cat got killed, in our backyard, and she was only 4 and had her claws. Our mistake was letting her be indoor/outdoor which is how she was when we adopted her.
@@willes2735 "isn't necessarily going to save them" but their chances are much much higher. Try to climb a fence without using your fingers. Try to punch someone with a hand stump (okay, that's hard to visualize). There is a reason we call it being handicapped.
I had no idea that declawing meant removing the whole first digit of the paw! Thankfully I never considered declawing anyway, but thank you Jackson Galaxy for this very informative video.
The vets who declaw seem to not want you to know what they do. They use lasers and pretend it’s so much better. It’s unbelievable to even think any human could be that cruel. But it’s true we are very cruel as a species.
@BirBaily not idio*s, that's ableist (bigoted to marginalised humans to say) but definitely cruel and disgusting. in US they routinely circumcise infants, too, in hospitals, like it's ear piercing, or something and not cutting lot's of nerves ending, and healthy, protective part of the body. The procedure that sometimes even ends up in death. I was shocked to find out. I still can't believe, been a decade now (and I, cis women from southeastern Europe, often join US intactivists to try to persuade new moms to not do it to their kid, if some publicity announce on social media) Declawing practice didn't surprise me after that - "just" enraged. And sad.
“Having a cat is like having a toddler who can reach the ceiling.” 😂 I almost peed my pants, Jackson… just freaking HYSTERICAL… still laughing 😂 What a gift you are 🎉
@@resourcedragon Thanks you for doing that. I hope more people will be doing things like this. I have never seen anything like this (declawing) happening in Europe even before the laws were there, nor I see it in Japan despite the fact that animal rights are pretty much non existent here. Here people prefer not having cats rather than doing crezy stuff like that. Having said that there are people that hate cats and try to hurt them if they can. I saw once an old men trying to put a cigarette butt against a cat at a park. I shove him to the ground and told him that if I ever saw him doing something like that again I would hurt him seriously. People are so horrid sometimes its unbelieveble
We're brutes in the U.S., that's all there is to it. Some of us actually argue that it is our "right" to declaw or otherwise mutilate our animals and judges allow it because we live in 'Murika. We'll outlaw declawing the day they pry the gun out from my granddad's cold dead fingers. (Had to say my grandpa because I won't allow firearms in my home. Also, I think that's how they buried him.)
Declawing is like amputating your arm. It is OK -though not great - when the alternativesaa an is death or lifelong crippling pain. It’s a serious crime otherwise. It is not OK because you decided to buy a cat-incompatible couch. Or get scratched now and then. (Especially when the cat withdraws consent to be e.g. held and there is not an overriding need for the health and safety of the cat, say a house fire.) Getting scratched is almost always your fault or sometimes an accident and comes with having a cat. PS: Yes, in civilised countries declawing - like poking out eyes - is forbidden. The same may not be true for barbaric or decadent countries.
When I was growing up, we front declawed our cats. When I grew up and learned about what it was and how it was harmful, I vowed to never do it to my cats. My dad still insists that it’s not a problem and so I’m just happy he doesn’t adopt cats anymore.
@@WhyTH-camWhy I don’t know if he ever saw videos but explaining it to him was like talking to a brick wall. One of many very big differences between us that has split us apart.

I play with ours few times daily they meow when they want time to play, they only 8month old. They love the time but also really good at self play too I think because we put lots of time into it with them. Some people think their cats are lazy but it’s more likely they’ve been lazy with their cats.
@@hannahcorlett1247 that’s awesome! I bet it’s also dry food, bc I can notice an immediate difference in my older cat when I’ve been feeding him dry due to budget issues (I try and avoid this entirely, but) and I finally get some canned, he is within hours more interested in play than he was while on dry
We worked SO HARD at safely introducing our new kitten and cat to our dogs. Now the four of them play and cuddle together. It’s better than I ever imagined!
Quite apart from the welfare of the animals involved, & the peace of the household, people who don't take the time & effort to foster great pet/pet relationships are missing out on SO much premium grade cuteness!! 😜 The way they can play or cuddle together is endlessly entertaining...
I've gotten all of my cat education from Jackson once I got my first kitten Luna (I used to own dogs and didn't know a thing about felines) and my cat is an absolute angel. She scratches where she is supposed to, and has never destroyed anything. Seriously so grateful for all the hard work he's put in to help others. And I just want to chime in here and say that all the declawed cats I've met truly have had such a hard time. Infections, pain, irritability, sensitivity, unable to step into a litter box. It is cruelty in the name of convenience and if it's an option for you then you should not own a cat. There is nothing wrong with realizing you dont have the time to train/properly take care of a pet (and thus, shouldn't own one!) There is something wrong with causing them lifelong pain for personal amusement/satisfaction.
When I was really little, my mom bought a cat for my great aunt after tiny me seemed to form a bond with him in particular. Apparently my aunt had him declawed (which now explains why he was so afraid of people for a while), and I feel awful knowing now he's spent almost 2 decades walking with such pain. We took him in into our home instead last year, and we noticed how his front paws are almost never comfortable when they are touching the ground. Bless him, he's still so cuddly and sweet, but it hurts me to know how long he's been hurting and that nothing will ever repair it.
If you love your cat, you want them to have their claws. If he gets lost outside, he might need to defend himself or climb a tree to get away. I saw a pitbull right at my cat's heels, God knows what would have happened if he was unable to climb the tree that saved him.
True...Even those safety reasons aside, they use their claws in a lot of their basic normal behaviors. Playing, digging to cover poo, grabbing at things that interest them, stretching, claw-marking(on trees or scratchposts) etc. Taking away their fingertips is the opposite of loving them. It's like telling them they can't be a cat.
My last cat got bitten by a dog and almost lost his leg even his life. Was probably his claws that got him free from the dogs jaws. Vet said he was very lucky not to have died from his injuries.
So true. Even though all my cats are 100% indoors. Anything could happen like a fire where they had to get out if I wasn't at home. Even though I would stress out knowing that they were out somewhere, at least they all have their claws and that alone would make me feel better. Without their claws, they have 0 defense. They can't climb trees and they can't fight.
okay actually pit bulls are very sweet and it was likely just sniffing your cat because it’s another fucking animal. stop adding to the stigma that pit bulls are dangerous they are NOT. they are literally known as the nanny dogs because they would watch their owners babies.
New rescue partner here. Starving, flea infested, respiratory infection... But so sweet and he loves to ride in the car. I was on my way to the SPCA but they weren't taking any more cats after the hurricane (Milton). Since he was in the car and perfectly content, had to rethink cat ownership. I camp and kayak a lot and since he's still a kitten, hoping he will enjoy a papoose. He also watches TV. Who knew you tube would have videos for cats?! He watched one on my phone while in the vets office... He is especially fond of chasing the laser light.
To add to the Basecamp idea - if you live in Tornado Alley, if you can make the cat's Basecamp the same room or location where you would go for safety, or adjacent to that location, it can go a long way towards getting your cats to safety quickly and easily! I keep my cats' carriers there, and often when there are storms or the sirens go off, the cats are already there by the time I get there! Has saved me peace of mind so many times not worrying if they're hiding under the bed or behind furniture.
That’s such a smart idea! I’m interested in getting a cat but making sure I can quickly get it in its carrier in case of an emergency (wildfires in my case) is one thing I’m worried about
@@m0zarts-animation In my case I'm lucky that the middle of our house happens to be my bedroom closet. When I first got my 2 cats (today happens to be our 12-year adoptiversary!!), I made them a bed, litter area and brought all of their toys that came with them into the closet as their "safe space" and made sure the closet door stayed open so they could start exploring the house slowly with the bedroom and still get to their safe space when they got scared or nervous. We slowly transitioned the litter and toys outside the closet door and, for the litter, to a better location once they had full run of the house. Carriers that have an easy-open top make nice beds where they can feel safe in the beginning too. It gives them a place to "hide" where you know you can have them ready to get to safety without a struggle! Good luck with your new kitty once you get it!
that's genius! must save so much worry, especially if the sirens go off when you're out of the house and can't get back to them and get them safe first.
Thank you for this! Living in MN we get a bit of everything, tornadoes, severe straight winds, have evacuated in the past for fire, etc. I've thought about this but you connected the dots on how to get it done!
i found my cat Quaker as a stray about a year ago… he has changed my life! i honestly think i need him more than he needs me… i consider having him and honor and a privilege ❤️
I've kept my cat's transporter easily accessible to her since she's been a kitten. I don't hide it and take it out only when we go in the car. I want it to be a familiar place, not something unusal that makes her anxious. Getting her into the transporter is a breeze. Lots of meows while the car is rolling, but at least I get no resistance to get her into the transporter. It's one of her safe spaces!
My kitten used to pee in it so I on the opposite dont place it near him but he still loves it haha thank God he doesn't pee in on the way to the vet (only vomits but that's fine anyway)
My cats really like the outside, but i live in a big city , too many roads and we live in a flat, so i can't risk letting them go outside on their own. So first i bough a bagpack type lf carrier that was transparent. They loved it, got inside themselves without saying anything. Then they got too heavy to carry them on my back, so i got a pet stroller and the moment they see it they jump on it because i often give them walks when is sunny ( and that way i can leave every window open meanwhile) and they really like that.
@@nessyness5447 That's super awesome that you take them out like that! Truly an amazing enrichment opportunity for them :) If only more cat parents could do so ❤ Have you tried taking them on walks with a harness (takes some time and training to get used to for many cats)?
Thank you for talking about declawing! As a foster for the last 6 years I have seen a lot of cats come into rescue because the "owners " have declawed their cats and are now having problems. Litter box issues is the #1 reason. The litter hurts the cats paws and now they are finding somewhere soft to go i.e. the couch, a pile of laundry, a rug...etc. The second biggest problem the cats have is mental health issues. They become depressed because they can't use their paws correctly and their in pain the rest of their lives. So thank you Jackson for bringing attention to declawing. 💕
Can you imagine what defaecation would be like for you... if you had had all your fingers removed below the lower knuckle - so you can't clean your backside properly? UGH indeed! 😣
The cheapest and most effective way I’ve found that works on making the cats quit scratching the furniture was attaching tinfoil to it! It worked like a charm. Those babies don’t touch the furniture anymore. Also one of the cats is obsessed with opening the fridge. I got a 2$ baby latch from Walmart. Problem solved. One of the cats sometimes pees outside the box because she doesn’t like to stand all the way in, I put a pee pad outside the box. Problem solved. It is SO easy to accommodate your kitties undesired behaviours. Declawing or abandoning your pet are not the answer.
Can I ask how that worked? I have one cat that will not stop scratching furniture, no matter what I do. I have scratching posts all over the house, sticky tape, and now the couch is covered by a sheet. She does it to get my attention, and now she is scratching the underside of my mattress. I cannot ban her from the room, since that is where the dog door is. I am at a complete loss on how to fix this.

Little Story: I’m working yesterday night at a club called Rodeo (I’m a bouncer). This cat comes onto the patio and everyone being drunk or loving cats is trying to put her. She didn’t let them and out of all people came straight to me. I tried to leave, not really being the cat person that I thought I was. So for about a hour she kept following me and I accepted her. I called a friend to come pick her up for me and I would get her after I got off. I gave him my card and said get food and a collar. So we stayed up until 5 this morning laying and playing on the couch. Went to sleep for a hour waiting until my local Walmart opened. Then as soon as it opened I got all “cat necessities” after watching some of your videos. So jokingly I named her “Rodeo” but she responds well to it. She has already gotten along with my dogs and I’m putting up posters soon to try to find her home. Kinda hoping nobody claims her because she has a loving home here…. But I guess I have to do the right thing.
It's nice to know that she has a home with you, but putting posters up is the right thing to do. I would be a crying mess if my cat went missing and the person who found him decided not to take action. But again: if no one claims her, then I'm super happy that you guys have each other :)
@@elainecobb4175 Yes, she may have run away from a bad situation! I know one that ran because the family had small kids and they tortured that kitten. She booked and I would have too.

I have pretty low slanted ceilings and I thought my cats had to be deprived. However, after watching Jackson Galaxy, I am seeing the possibilities instead of the hurdles. Thanks, Jackson!
I found a 2 wk old kitten that crawled out of the bushes in the park as l walked by, meowing loudly crawling right toward me. No Mom in sight, I scooped her up, 8 mo later, BellaMoonbeam has lifted my life with so much love, wow! I put the litter box right next to toilet, set her in there after she drank her first formula, dug a little for her and she totally got it, now she poops with me in the morning:-p I clean it after that, again before l go to bed. I have kept her carrier out and she likes to play in it. At Vet time, I put a few treats in it and she gets right in. I started taking her to the Vet to clip her nails, the best $20 I spend. I feed her dry and wet food that's real, really expensive Haha, but she's my Caaat! We are so dialed in, she's really intuitive. I talk to her all day, she's super smart, plays fetch and will leave her toys next to my chair or bring it to me when she wants to play. Thank you Jackson! Aloha from Maui!

This is the first time I've ever heard of declawing, and I live in Istanbul, this city is kind of the capital of cats but never heard of such a horrible, horrible thing before. I've taken care of more than 10 cats over the years, you think you've seen everything. I wouldn't even dare to consider it let alone do it. This is pure torture we are talking about. How could they do that, and legally allow that in the begin with? Just let the poor cat alone instead of doing that. I'm sure a cat would do much better off without these clinically ill people. I must say, I wouldn't dare to leave a child alone with someone that much power poisoned. I think this is what's it is about. They do it because they can. It is not taking care of an animal or a pet, it is a statement of a psycho wearing a pet lover mask.
I agree. So awful. I would love to see all the cats in Istanbul one day, is it safe for Canadians there? Would you recommend anything there to see? It is on my top list for travel mainly because of the cats.
I got my cat when I was 7 through rescue. She was a tiny feral kitten that used me like her personal scratching post. So my mom went to the vet and got her declawed. She is 17 now and still in good health, but I can definitely see how it affected her over her life. She was a biter and being a Siamese mix she was rather intolerant to anyone that wasn't "her family". She was a "rebellious" pooper for years and used that as a kind of vengeance. Now that she is older I can see how she has pain in her paws and legs and has arthritis. Overall, she is still a lively old girl, but I feel horrible that we did this to her. The thing is when they took her to be declawed the vet had told my Mom how easy and painless it would be (This was the early 2000s and the vet really just wanted our money.). My Mom thought what she was doing would make her daughter's pet safer to own and that it was nothing more than removing the nail. When she found out what actually happens she cried and even though she hated my cat (rebellious pooper) she was treating her like a princess for a long while. A cautionary tale to support the Anti-Declawing policy all vets should have.
If she was an outside of the box pooper, it might not have been from spite, but from the hard granules of the litter hurting the amputation sites on her toes. It can become very painful for declawed cats to use the box, so she may have learned hard granules in box= pain.
This is a similar experience to mine. I was a teenager in the early 2000's, and my grandmaw's rule was that in order to bring a kitten into the house, it had to be declawed. Our vet said recovery was easy, and it was better to get the surgery done as a kitten so they could get used to not having claws. Found out what the surgery actually was years later. My cat didn't have aggression behaviors from it and still was very active, so we lucked out on that front. She did hide from new people though, and she'd get anxious if she didn't know where I was. She'd cry until I called for her or went to get her. I don't know if these things were because of being declawed, or if it was some other anxiety cause, but I did always wonder if that for sure played a part.
Thank you for this story. Maybe it will help others realize what a mistake it is to declaw a cat. I'm very happy to see that it kinda worked out and your cat had a long life. Mine didn't.
Me too. I was horrified when I first heard Jackson talk about it. I had never heard of it before. I’ve had every pet imaginable ranging from horses to goats and guinea pigs, but we only decided to bring a couple of kittens into our home relatively recently. This was because for the first time we had the right environment for them and it’s been fantastic. So many people just don’t think about the time a owning a pet takes and how they need the right environment to thrive.
Please don't recommend a guinea pig. I have one and a cat, they ate the same type of care. They need a lot of space, you have to keep the enclosure clean, you have to cut their nails, clean the ears and sometimes a bath if needed, they also have to be socialised and so on. Don't underestimate them, please. If people are not okay with sacrificing a little bit of their own confort for the sake of the animal, they should not have an animal.
I had a guniea pig along with a couple of elderly cats a few years ago and they were all besties they would all cuddle up together cavys are quite temermental and for sure not a first pet though
Here's how I've always felt. If you think that mutilation is the proper response to your cat's scratching, I may recommend Build a Bear Workshop for your next animal.
The worst mistake I made with a cat decades ago (before I had the benefit of Jackson Galaxy's "My Cat From Hell") was not helping my cat learn that other people could be good. My cat loved me but hated everyone else and would act out by hissing, scratching, and biting. I learned techniques from Mr. Galaxy's television programs long after my cat passed away that could have helped my cat live a better life. If I ever face the situation again, I'll know what to do.
Declawing cats is illegal in Australia. I think it's illegal in all states now to dock dogs' tails, and as far as I know, vets here have never cropped dogs' ears.
My mother was trying to declaw my kitten for when she got older I basically put a presentation for why is bad for the cat and she finally agreed not to :)
@@bree_so_sweet From the way I understand it: your mom, an adult, tried to convince her 6-year old child to get her cat declawed? Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled that he still has all of his claws, but why in God's name does a cat's wellbeing depend on a 6-year old's decision?
@@bree_so_sweet I suppose we will have to agree to disagree on that matter. While I wholeheartedly agree with a child cleaning the litter box, playing with it, taking it on walks (if necessary), I strongly disagree with letting a child decide about heavy and impacting medical procedures. Because as much as you love your cat, you're still a child and a child doesn't know what it means to declaw a cat, castrate them, performing surgery on them, etc. Imagine a cat having kidney stones and a young child is like: "Idk what that means, so no surgery ig." So yes, age matters, because no child at a certain age is going to do their research on the internet or ask a vet for advice. So yeah, I'm strongly opposed to leaving the actual important decisions to a child, but I'm in no way trying to talk down on you. If anything, I think it was very irresponsible of your mother to allow that to happen.
@@bree_so_sweet I can see I hit a nerve or two. Or 20. But again: that wasn't my intention and I'm sorry you don't believe me on that. I was just saying how I feel about it. Now that I know my opinion is very unwelcome, I won't bother you anymore. Again, I'm happy to hear that your boy is doing great. I wish you lots of happiness for many years to come.
I have found that a bird feeder outside of a window with a safe place for your cat to sit or lay down, entertains them for hours on end!!! They Love To Watch Birds.😻
My dad didn’t understand the difference between trimming and declawing… so when I went home to trim all the kittens’ nails, he got scared and told me that I was hurting them and to stop whatever I was doing… had to do a lot of broken Chinese explanation between the two… he’s 70… and without understanding the differences well, he still knew declawing is bad… so I don’t understand these people going out of their way to mutilate an animal… 🤯
This happened to me as well! I offered to trim an acquaintance's cat's nails, and their partner was HORRIFIED when they got home. Turns out it caused a huge fight, which I feel kinda bad about, but also those nails were so long the cat couldn't walk properly.
When I was 17, I got a kitten, and didn’t realize I needed to socialize her. I had had a mean cat growing up that I didn’t realize was just poorly socialized, and I thought he had just gotten so fed up with humans, so I didn’t want to do that to my new kitten. Thankfully, she’s grown into such a sweet a girl, and is fairly well socialized (she just doesn’t like being handled), but now that I know about socialization, I feel so guilty for not giving her more devoted interaction and play. I was just so afraid of traumatizing her. Years later, she now has a daddy who works from home and spends all day loving, nuggling and playing with her, and she even has a kitty-sister to play with.
I had the same problem with my dogs (my mom's dogs actually). They were not socialized _at all_ and would bark at everything that moved. I was so fed up with them and just embarrassed to take them on walks. My mom claimed not to know why they're being so difficult (even though I'm fairly certain she knows the reason), and now that I have two kittens I swear to never make that mistake. As a 10-year old child, I never did research about owning a dog, but I've read the entire internet about what it takes to own cats. I may not be perfect, but I'm sure as hell gonna give them a better life than those dogs.
i was lucky that way, i adopted a 7 week old kitten and my roommate had a very large dog. they were both socialized to each other right away and they sure loved each other. now my roommate moved out last week and my cat still looks for the dog
I'm really glad to learn about socialisation ahead of time for our lil kitten, just know it wasn't your fault. You did the best you could at the time for her.
Socialization is just as important for cats as well as dogs. I always take a kitten around to different places, and let him meet different people until he's comfortable with it. Of course, vaccinations should be up to date when taken outside the home, and the weather is nice. (Jan Griffiths).
I'm glad I found this channel. I'm wanting to adopt two kittens, but I've never owned cats. Doing my research now before bringing them home will lower my fears of making mistakes. I'm feeling confident I'll be a great cat mom.
I live in a two-story house with a basement. My solo kitty has three litterboxes - one on each level. She is elderly and has been sick, so now she has food and water on two floors, also. She likes this arrangement.
My vet refuses to declaw. If someone asks about declawing, she explains why it's a very bad idea. If they insist, she tells them to go elsewhere. She'd rather lose the business than declaw a cat.
That is an EXCELLENT vet.

It only took a little while to train me.
lol
good thing your cat new how to train a human!
Cats are so ridiculously good at training people 🤣
When I moved in with my boyfriend, I had 2 cats, he had 1 & his disabled mom that lived with him had 1.
My cats get so mad at me when I clean therr litter😂 my little European tabby will be mad at me for about an hour then cuddle with me again lmao
NEVER DECLAW CATS!
should be outlawed.
(For example, it scares me every time they jump from the top of a table -- I fear that they are hurting their paws. )

Why on earth would people declaw the cats???? Woooo cruel ! Even though my cats destroy things and furniture from time to time: I would never do it
Declawing should be illegal everywhere.
Yet in general, people are more messy and destructive to rented property than animals.
in sweden it is illegal declawing cats. if a veterinarian does this to a cat, he / she risks losing his / her license, and the owner of the cat risks a fine for even asking to do such a thing. the cat can also be taken from the owner and placed with someone else. and the owner can get an animal ban for the rest of his life
Yeah, this whole thing is so strange to me. I honestly can't understand how vet can do this and still get work after that.

That's like saying: "I wanna get a dog, but not walk too much, because it doesn't fit in my routine." this quote reminds me of myself in the past quite a bit.

He is such a deep and loving guy.

Reminds me of "when you know better, you do better." You did your best at that time. Now you know better.

One of the worst stories I've heard of declawing was of a wild cat. Someone had a pet bobcat or lynx, had it defanged and declawed, and once it became too much of a problem they released it into the wild. It was found starving by hikers and was rescued by a sanctuary.
some people are just cruel
OMG that's horrific

Another horrifying thing to add when is from a recent conversation I had with someone who wanted a pet cougar. When I brought up that it could still maul them, even if strictly trained, they said they would just do this to it. I hope that person never gets a pet.
Wow, those people were idiots on so many different levels.

Imo, those people should be barred from having pets at all.
So the cats should be left on the streets or killed at shelters because landlords only accept declawed cats, the few that accept cats at all (Where I live, the vast majority of cats that end up at a shelter are euthanized almost immediately, and just being allowed to have a cat or rescue a cat is a feat.

Oh ffs, aren’t some people fucking awful? Your poor baby. I hope she improves with your love and patience. I’m sure she will. Cats - all domesticated animals - respond to both those things very well over time. ♥️
@@hjcdormouse7337 you are AMAZIN. I’m so happy people like you are out there
Well, she’s been through a lot. It may take a year, but I believe you can do it
Oh, and I’d look into the best kitty litter too, one that’s best for her fragile paws
Good luck, she’s lucky to have you!
Has she meowed again?
I swear we have the same cat! I’m like her best friend instead of her mom but she follows me around the house meowing all the time now that she’s comfortable!
What a wonderful story. You must have been delighted when he meowed.

So to prevent possible infections, pain and sudden death it may be better to cut tail off
People who declaw their animal or cut tails should think how they feel if I pull out his or her nails first and laser their head hair.

Holy macaroni! I knew declawing was bad, but didn’t know how bad. 😢
You're one of the lucky ones!
I’m probably not the only one in this type of situation!
i have a covid baby too and she is terrified of visitors. i want her to feel safe and enjoy others company 💔

@@libertarianbitcoiner1014 I respectfully disagree. In France, it simply doesn't exist. The only way you can hear about it is when the news talk about circus managers who do that to tigers and lions.

They just bought a lot of brand new furniture for their new house, so I'm sure this is why they had him declawed.

Hello Allison how’s the weather over there
I’m really impressed with your comment🔥, if you don’t mind friendship were are you from🌹?
I had a senior cat that came to us with no front claws and was abandoned and starving. We ended up literally moving houses and sneaking him with us just so we could keep him. He was the best boy ever, and I’m happy he got to spend the remainder of his life in comfort. He passed from a cancerous tumor in his jaw. RIP Orange.
My kittens name is egg
Before your kitty came to you, he probably tried to hunt. With no claws, he couldn't catch anything. I'm happy for him that he found you, and you gave him good golden years. (Jan Griffiths).
The worst mistake : thinking you own a cat. You're his human! 😺"Love me, feed me, be my slaaaave" (PS : but he'll love you back soooo much if you make the daily effort to play, feed and cuddle him! - and keep the litter clean!!!)
Am guarding the house, no me no safety. Now feed and play with the house cats or else, lol.
Sometimes giving them too much love makes them run from us 😆
Dogs have owners, cats have staff.
that's why I call myself a cat butler
@@ericapoe totally!!! They need their space but at our place their space is usually mine ... Even when I move!
I met a woman who wouldn't give room to her cat although that breed is known for being close to humans... She'd Lock her in whatever room she was in... I suggested she'd get a dog instead but she didn't want to walk it so she went on with the kitty 😿
Maybe you can have a milsbo like a greenhouse. ❤️
Thank you!
Thank you for rescuing that hungry stray cat. Thank you so much! 💜💜💜 I wish everyone would have such compassion. You're a wonderful human! ❤
Very nice!.
I had to sign a waiver with the humane society when I adopted my cats saying I wouldn't declaw my cats. Wouldn't have thought of it anyway...ugh. so sad.
Ugh is the right sound. Good on you are obviously an animal lover.
Yeah I had to sign a waiver as well when I adopted my rescue. But it never crossed my mind. It should just be made illegal
Same here!!
Had a friend who told me declawing was cruel. Glad I took her word for it
I love how you explain the mistakes. No shaming just educating!
True, most of this stuff I have either done or thought of doing. A couple I still do. Which I need to fix. Great videos he puts out.
I’m really impressed with your comment🔥, if you don’t mind friendship were are you from🌹?
Litterally the same thing happened with my roommate's cat! She'd scratch up the back of my computer chair, then sleep on it when I wasn't there!
That’s what I was wondering. Why not let them scratch anyway? They are living beings. How important is furniture anyway?
15$ office chair or 4000$ couches. You tell me
It's taken me twenty-five years to fully appreciate and articulate my thoughts on the matter.
They don't need their claws."
That was when I'd run out of things to say.
They betrayed your trust and dismissed your opinion. No wonder you are angry. You did the best you can for your cats. Good for you.
Bless you.
Your sister deserved a slap. Good for you! If the tips of her toes were cut off maybe she'd change her mind
I’m 30 seconds into this video and my foster kitten stops attacking me, lays down on me, starts watching this video with me and purring 😹😹😹. You can’t make this stuff up. Cats love you Jackson!
Mine in sitting at the side of my legs facinated by watching and listening to you!!
Same as soon as I read ur comment one of em came crawling on my back 😭
Mine woke up and sat next to me !! It really is his voice
:)
A new future cat lover.. congrats!
Congratulations on being claimed by a cat!!! They’re truly awesome creatures. Welcome to the cat lover’s club! I’m glad that your daughter likes kitties!!!!
Congratulations you’ve been adopted.
Michigan within the past couple years made it straight up illegal to declaw a cat. I had just moved there and was so thrilled to hear it.
About judging yourself harshly, remember this: Before you know something--you don't know it. That's just how it is. Cut yourself some slack, learn, give yourself a hug.
Us in the rabbit rescue area tell people this all the time!
Nice!
Great advice…
Declawing is illegal in Australia..
Can’t believe it still goes on in the US….
When my grandma got my cat she had to sign something that said she wouldn’t declaw (I’m in the USA 🇺🇸)
It’s illegal in Canada as well. At least in 8 provinces (10 in total)
We are finally, praise the cat galaxy, changing this. So far, only a handful of states have made it illegal, but the number is growing as awareness spreads.
As an American, me too! But as an American I know it’s all about the money!
It’s also banned in Ireland, the UK, and many countries in Europe
Declawing is horrifying. It shocks me that vets will even do it. Thank you for this video, I hope people learn.
@BirBaily
not idio*s, that's ableist (bigoted to marginalised humans to say)
but definitely cruel and disgusting.
in US they routinely circumcise infants, too, in hospitals, like it's ear piercing, or something and not cutting lot's of nerves ending, and healthy, protective part of the body.
The procedure that sometimes even ends up in death.
I was shocked to find out. I still can't believe, been a decade now (and I, cis women from southeastern Europe, often join US intactivists to try to persuade new moms to not do it to their kid, if some publicity announce on social media)
Declawing practice didn't surprise me after that - "just" enraged.
And sad.
@BirBaily probably to show that declawing is not the only backward thing done in current day usa.
@@maurernorbert7031
Thank you for reading with understanding!
O honestly didn't know either until I watched a documentary I was very uninformed that's the problem gross vets make it sound humane
“Having a cat is like having a toddler who can reach the ceiling.” 😂 I almost peed my pants, Jackson… just freaking HYSTERICAL… still laughing 😂 What a gift you are 🎉
Vets found to be de-clawing cats should be struck off and not allowed to practice anymore. It’s illegal in Europe thank god. Good video Jackson.
It's illegal in Europe because it is animal cruelty, which is a crime. Galaxy you should lobby to pass a law in the US too
@@salvatoremannino3389 I've signed a "care2" petition against declawing cats, I don't know if it's still going.
Actually happy to hear that he stopped and that you're responsible 🌟😸
We used to do the same thing. My current kitty and her litter mate is the first ones that we left the claws alone.
How can he think that if it's a mutilation? Did he see the images, stories and what not?
Some mounsters out there
@@WhyTH-camWhy I don’t know if he ever saw videos but explaining it to him was like talking to a brick wall. One of many very big differences between us that has split us apart.
I just cant believe we didnt get a "Not playing with your cat" :D Thank you for your videos - I've been a good little student and can say I have an A in most of these thanks to them!
Do not under estimate a cat they use pheremones just like a lie detector
Best thing is to keep them safe from outdoor predators, especially those that can swoop down from above. Even claws can’t protect them then.
EXCELLENT!👍👍🥳🎊
that's genius! must save so much worry, especially if the sirens go off when you're out of the house and can't get back to them and get them safe first.
Truly an amazing enrichment opportunity for them :) If only more cat parents could do so ❤
Have you tried taking them on walks with a harness (takes some time and training to get used to for many cats)?

Your video help me to have the best relationship with my cat I ever did. Thank you
Thank you for talking about declawing!
@@blondie7740 with my cat he is scared of tinfoil and plastic bags and im assuming it does not feel to great to the claws. He kept scratching at the bathroom door frame so we put tinfoil on it and he stopped soon after. That was the only thing he really clawed at as well
@@blondie7740 This has worked for me in the past, and it's no guarantee, but worth trying. A tree limb. Little Story:
I’m working yesterday night at a club called Rodeo (I’m a bouncer).
Looks like you got yourself a cat bud
The Kitten picked YOU! You need to keep the Kitten.

Every soon to be cat owner should watch this. There were a couple of mistakes I've made in this and I've had cats quite a while. I wish I had known all of this prior. Thank you!
I'm the same way, I was really young when my family got a cat so I never really spent much time taking care of him but I now own a kitten whose a bit of a troublemaker. I've been looking at things that I could do to train and understand her more. This vid helps a lot!
Same here from Iran, I'm terrified how can someone even think about it!
I agree. So awful. I would love to see all the cats in Istanbul one day, is it safe for Canadians there? Would you recommend anything there to see? It is on my top list for travel mainly because of the cats.
Mom had our beloved kitty Su Ling declawed. The poor cat was never the same afterward. Wonderful advice Jackson.
You had a rogue shitter!
I had a 2yo son(human, not a cat son) like that. He's 13 almost and no longer roguishly shits in closets anymore.
rebellious pooper that's nice description 😄
Declawing is 100% illegal here, when I first heard about it I was in shock. How?! Why?! Get a Guinea Pig.
I was obviously not serious about the guinea pig.. don't get any animal if you can't handle them for who they are.
These always make me anxious because I think I'm not being the best guardian but it turns out I'm doing just fine. 😊
Declawing cats should be illegal! Don’t get one if you’re going to do that.! Cat daddy is absolutely right!
it's illegal in my country.
It's illegal in some states, thankfully! I know NY outlawed it in 2019.
I think in Europe it is illegal. I have not even heard of this procedure until recently and I have grown up with cats.
@@enikobali7545 yep, it's considered animal cruelty
Declawing cats is illegal in Australia.
I think it's illegal in all states now to dock dogs' tails, and as far as I know, vets here have never cropped dogs' ears.
My mother was trying to declaw my kitten for when she got older I basically put a presentation for why is bad for the cat and she finally agreed not to :)
Good job! Thank you!
Nice. Well fought sir!
I’m really impressed with your comment🔥, if you don’t mind friendship were are you from🌹?
Your such a nice, non-accusative cat person. You also know heaps about cats. Yours is a big to be recommended to others.
Hello Susan how’s the weather over there
When I was 17, I got a kitten, and didn’t realize I needed to socialize her.
I live in UK. Never heard of declawing until a few years ago.
Why it has ever been legal, is bewildering.
Me too. I just find the concept so crazy.
it made vets a ton of money
