I love the sound of the Greenback, it cuts so well. But being 25W means you always need either a full 4x12 cab, or to blend it with a higher rated speaker whenever you're using a 100W head. Creambacks sound great too, though a little scooped. The Marshall Vintage, by comparison, sounds muffled, like the presence knob was dialled waaay back. I’ve got a 2x12 with a G12H30 (55hz) and a VType and it’s a great sounding cab with my Marshall. My best mate has a G12M with a Vtype and it’s bloody nice too. The greenies just blend so nice. Been wanting to try a cream back in a 1x12 out of curiosity and this video has sold me.
Hi there, you seem to know what you're talking about. I own a JTM45 and I love the greenback sound (1960ax) but 4x12 is just overkill for our little bandroom - it's simply too loud. Do you have a recommondation for a 2x12 cabinet? Any recommondation would be much appreciated.
@@AkademickCI’d suggest sticking to a less efficient speaker like the greenback or V-Type or any other 98db speaker. The 100db speakers are definitely louder so if noise is an issue that small volume drop might help.
Outstanding video Sir! Very easy to hear the differences between the speakers. I play through a Marshall1959HW head quite a bit and I love the G12H-30 Greenbacks in my matching 412 cabinet, but I did notice the Creamback 65 had some tasty tones with the 5150 head. I may need to add that amp+ 412 cab to my collection. Thank you for putting this video together!
Nice job and sounds ! Thank's Euge for this great work ! I'd like to leasten with the Vintage 30, but I fall in love with the Cream Back. It has so munch punch and presence. Hi Euge let her wail !!! Great comparison video I paid an extra $1000 to change my 412 speakers but sold the factory speaks. Hockey season coming soon as well !!!! AHL firing on all cylinders 💪🏒💪🏒💪
I really liked the open carachter of the Creamback ! My opinion : 5150/JCM800 -> Creamback, Plexi -> Greenbacks. The Marshall Vintage is too mid foward for my taste, I like a bit more air in the tone Thanks for the great video and monstruous tone Euge !
Hey EV, at 2:27, I'm with you man. About to go through 3 different Celestion myself. At 7:08, the pleasing smirk on your face says it all. Also, I completely agree, the speaker is one of the most important "components" in your signal. As is said, garbage in, garbage out.
I really, really like the G12H-75 Creamback for high gain. It accentuates that mean 1kHz grind, which always reminds me of the good ol‘ Swedish DM sound.
Great video again. I love Greenbacks with Marshall amps. Not a fan of the G12T75 at all, though Yngwie uses them all the time and they work for him. I have my 4x12 cab loaded with two Greenbacks and two vintage G12H30 speakers with the lower frequency cones. Has a lot of body and a lot of bite. My Marshall 2x12 has a Warehouse Speakers ET-65 (like a G12H clone) and a Warehouse Retro 30 (similar to a Celestion Vintage 30). But in my Vox AC30, it has to be Celestion Alnico Blues. Essential part of that Vox sound. I've played AC30s that have Celestion Vintage 30 speakers, and it sounds and responds completely differently. Speakers are almost like an instrument in their own right.
Is that just the Boss Overdrive into that Marshall giving you that sound??? Is the Marshall a stock 50 watt Plexi and was it modified is it just the Boss into a stock Plexi??? Sounds amazing for the 80s sound you are going for.
Man I got a dv77 and v30 in a 2x12 and it's brutal . I do still wanna try those greenbacks because I love the tones you are getting. Maybe do a mesa cab with 1 dv77 1 v30 1 greenback and 1 creamback. Wonder how that would sound in a 4x12 mesa cab.
Nice Comparison! I'm curious if you've ever gotten you hands on the Marshall Celestion Heritage G12H speaker? I see them come in the JVM combos and extension cabs but I've seen almost no direct comparisons of that with other speakers and few demos of it all. I'm really curious how they compare to the Marshall G12 Vintage.
Love the way all those sound and thanks for helping me match up with what I need to match up I don't use greenbacks very often but I do use the lessons I use those 75 W last night
H Creambacks have become my go-to speaker recently in my DSL40, because they just do everything. - if I'm playing only high-gain then I'll probably fit a Classic Lead 80/an original 1986 T-75 (the old white label with no magnet vent) - if I'm playing only clean to mid-gain i.e. 70's style rock, I'll use a Marshall Heritage, or a H30 Anniversary if I can get away with a lower power amp - if I'll be playing a mixture of both, the H Creamback is capable of sounding just as good in all situations, especially if you're thoughtful with your pedal setup and amp channels. They really can't be beaten for versatility without compromising on sounding good A quick word on the T-75s, if you do want to give them another chance, you're more likely to have a better time with one of the original white label versions that came with the '80s JCM800 cabs (pre JCM900 before they went black label and then the modern black/white), they're a lot less hairy than the modern made speakers. Saying that, an SD-1 and a 5150 probably isn't the best way to compliment a T-75, they go better with Marshalls or a Mesa Boogie Mark with the 240Hz band scooped rather than 750Hz. I boost mine with a Blues Driver and a Mesa 5-band eq pedal. Also it's nice to see Guitar Mania getting some worldwide appreciation - I'm lucky enough that they're my local guitar shop, and the team in there really know their stuff, my Marshall label Creamback came from them.
I loved the greenback with the 1987x boosted the most. I think blending the creamback and greenback with any of the modern amps could sound great. The creamback clean was really good. The vintage sounds good in general but I’m just burnt out on the vintage sound so I always appreciate new speaker sounds. You should try some of the Eminence speakers if you’re able to get your hands on them, I love the Governor as a v30 alternative and the Wizard is another great speaker that doesn’t get nearly enough recognition. but I would imagine Celestion is just easier to get a hold of over there.
Dude your playing was awesome, they all sound amazing. But the greenback has something nasty about it I really like. Cream back and greenback together. ADA - Creamback really brought it to life.
Hi, Do you have a video on how you connect your Amps to cabs and the switcher you use? Also I have the same boss SD1. it introduces a lot of noise into the signal chain. Do you use something like a decimator within your rig as it's very quiet? Thanks.😊
Can't help it but V30 just works for heavier music. Also greenbacks have this nice "chuck" while playing, like strings are a bit sticky. I have 4x12 cab and been thinking about replacing speakers so I can change between different speaker sounds. Is there a point or benefit soundwise leaving like 2x same speaker, or should I just straight put 4 different speakers and switch/mix between them?
I prefer mix a v30 with a seventy/80 in a 2x12. In rehearsal with the rest of the band sound ok. The creamback or the greenback, for me,sound better without any instrument. For a intro, for example.
I always use whatever's around at the studio. My fav is the EVM12 or the JBL120. I'm not that picky because I can always tweak the speaker in the mix. I hate the 7080 or 6080 is a cheapo speaker. I heard greenbacks sound better as a pair but again I'm not that selective and I have hearing in only one ear.
What’s up Euge! My mesa boogie TC50 combo has a LOT of midrange with its v30 (even with the mid eq at its minimum)… a creamback would attenuate it? Thanks and cheers from Brazil!
Hey Euge. Nice choice on the CB-M75! My personal favorite so im biased. Recently, people X-Pattern V30's and CB's. Lastly, and I hate to be "that guy" but the 80s T-75's are better. Similar to the Chinese vs UK V30's argument. Love your vids as always man! \mm/ Thanks for the JCM800 tone tips :)
Hi Sir! Have you tried a masa 412 cabinet? I know speakers make a difference, but what about the cabs? I have heard so many good things about the mesa, what is your opinion? Is it worth the price? It is double the Marshall 412!
Great comparison. You are absolutely right: speakers do make a big difference. But you have to keep in mind that one and the same speaker will sound different in a different cabinet. The construction of a speaker cabinet, I think, is one of the most neglected sound factors.
Thanks! Indeed. But if you have two Marshall cabs like me the difference is so subtle that it doesn’t matter. Funny fact is that my BV cab is from early 2000s and BX from early 2020s and based on the markings / sticker inside the cabs they’re put together by the same guy 😎👌.
@@EugeValovirta230V You are absolutely right. It's funny that both your Marshall cabinets were built by the same guy 🙂But there is, for example, a big difference between a 4x12 Marshall and a 4x12 Engl - both loaded with Vintage 30s. The Engl cabinet is about 10 kg heavier than a Marshall. Also, there is a difference between a Vintage 30 with 8 Ohms and one with 16 Ohms
They sounded good together but I’m more of a Marshall cab guy. The studio (Hansen Studios in Denmark) we recorded the album just happened to have those and they did the job just fine.
Guitar speakers are so important to the sound. The first speaker i ever used was the Celestion V Style wich comes inside the Marshall DSL 40 combo and sounds really bad in my opinion. I swapped it to a Vintage 30 and that amp just came to life. After that I bought a harley benton 2x12 with vintage 30s in it. It aounded a bit harsh in the high end, so i swapped one speaker to a creamback, wich made it Sound a lot better. A few months ago I also bought a laney 4x12 wich is loaded with laney custom HH speakers. It sounds absolutely increadible and definetly better than my 2x12 with celestion speakers. I think just the fact that there are more speakers already makes a huge difference, at least when hearing it in the room. Also when micing speakers I have noticed that even if you have two of the same speakers, like 2 V30s, they do sound a bit different. Maybe you can compare that in a video aswell

I have a mix of Vintage and Creambacks in a 1960 cabs in x pattern. Sounds great. The Creambacks are new, so need to break in i think. My amp is a Diezel VH2. Also have an EVH 50 watt stealth but haven't tried it since installing the Creambacks.
Amazing video Eugue! …you are a guitar players best friend!! Thanks for the awesome comparison. …I always seem to like the greenback; can’t help it. All are good though!
Thanks!
I liked thevH creamback and the V30 the best. I think a blend of those two would be great! I plan on trying that in my Marshall 2x12 cab.
Thanks Euge! 👍👍👍
My pleasure!
Great comparison, great video, great guy - again. Fun fact: check out what names TH-cam's auto subtitle comes up with, when you say yours 😂 always different "El Governor"
Thanks!
Yep 😎.
I've done V30/GB combo. I'm running V30/Eminence square mag now. I'm thinking about going square mag/cream back.
Nice comparison Euge....I personally like the Greenback most. It sounds in my ears most even and heavy without fuzzy tones and muffle subs
Thanks!
Thanks! Cool!
Nice job and sounds !
Thank's Euge for this great work !
I'd like to leasten with the Vintage 30, but I fall in love with the Cream Back. It has so munch punch and presence.
With the C90 also and open and close test, but it's a real f... big job.
Ref from the Road King witch has the best clear sound with the C90 open back for me.
Merci encore. Love your sounds !
Thanks! Really glad to hear!
Hi Euge let her wail !!! Great comparison video I paid an extra $1000 to change my 412 speakers but sold the factory speaks. Hockey season coming soon as well !!!! AHL firing on all cylinders 💪🏒💪🏒💪
Yeah man!
Euge, do you think it is worth it to upgrade the transistor combo (1x12) with one of these Celestion speakers? Great comparison anyway.
If you don’t like the speaker it currently has then I think that yes.
Cool, thank you. I used my Jcm800 2204 with V30 speakers on high volume regularly. I don't know how I survived that :D
I really liked the open carachter of the Creamback !
My opinion : 5150/JCM800 -> Creamback, Plexi -> Greenbacks.
The Marshall Vintage is too mid foward for my taste, I like a bit more air in the tone
Thanks for the great video and monstruous tone Euge !
🤟
Never a surprise, another great video. No losers in the bunch but I'm leaning Creamback.
Euge, you should try the Creamback 65. Or the Creamback 65 and 75 in a "X" pattern.
On point Euge.......On point brother...
🙏👌
I like Marshall's v30 for jcm , h75 for 5150, and greenies for plexi . V30 is not my cup , but marshall ones are great
Did my first swap last night. H75 + M65 + 2 x V30 X pattern
My favorite are the early G12-65 from the JCM800 era.
Is that just the Boss Overdrive into that Marshall giving you that sound???
Is the Marshall a stock 50 watt Plexi and was it modified is it just the Boss into a stock Plexi??? Sounds amazing for the 80s sound you are going for.
I have a V30 and a G12H pair in my combo, and an Orange 4x10 with Greenbacks. Combo is open back, Orange is closed. I never know which one to play lol
Play both 😎. Palmer makes this simple passive cab merger and it’s great: www.palmer-germany.com/en/products/signal-splitter-switcher/5088/cab-m
That is a Greenback with a heavy magnet. Compared to the regular Greenback it is more scooped sounding with bigger, tighter bass.
Thanks!
it would be great if T75 been included in these comparison. Thanx anyway)
Have you mixed the Greenbacks with the Marshall Vintage in a 4x12 cab? How does it sound?
Love the way all those sound and thanks for helping me match up with what I need to match up I don't use greenbacks very often but I do use the lessons I use those 75 W last night
Happy to help!
H Creambacks have become my go-to speaker recently in my DSL40, because they just do everything.
- if I'm playing only high-gain then I'll probably fit a Classic Lead 80/an original 1986 T-75 (the old white label with no magnet vent)
- if I'm playing only clean to mid-gain i.e. 70's style rock, I'll use a Marshall Heritage, or a H30 Anniversary if I can get away with a lower power amp
- if I'll be playing a mixture of both, the H Creamback is capable of sounding just as good in all situations, especially if you're thoughtful with your pedal setup and amp channels. They really can't be beaten for versatility without compromising on sounding good
A quick word on the T-75s, if you do want to give them another chance, you're more likely to have a better time with one of the original white label versions that came with the '80s JCM800 cabs (pre JCM900 before they went black label and then the modern black/white), they're a lot less hairy than the modern made speakers.
Cream and Green sound good. Put the cream back in HT club 40. really quite different.
For that metal tone, the v30 is the best because it enhances those high string notes
Love the upper mids and tightness in the greenback, i have a 2x12 with British greenbacks and it's much better than my boogie cab with vintage 30's
What exact model do you use? I'm looking for a 2x12 greenback.
That is pretty cool they'll do all that for ya when you buy speakers.
Yeah!
Seems like glenn fricker is right, tone is mostly in the speakers
Dude your playing was awesome, they all sound amazing. But the greenback has something nasty about it I really like. Cream back and greenback together. ADA - Creamback really brought it to life.
Thanks! Yeah Creamback is usually my go to with the ADA 👌.
Great comparison. Very helpful. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
maybe you try the celestion heritage g12-65 its the 80s metal speaker or g12h 30watt 75hz
I tried and the 65 is in now in this cab also 😎👌.
Hi, Do you have a video on how you connect your Amps to cabs and the switcher you use?
Also I have the same boss SD1. it introduces a lot of noise into the signal chain. Do you use something like a decimator within your rig as it's very quiet? Thanks.😊
Yeah:

@@EugeValovirta230V brilliant thanks 😊
I like the sound thats least going to get me evicted from my flat an the greenback is the perfect candidate for my 4x12 cab.
Great video, as always.
Thanks, Dude 🤙
Thanks!
Hi Euge great video and interesting insights as always. Any chance for a IR-X review? Much love.
Mark Lewis swears by the Creamback 65 and I agree, they sound sick.
Every driver has that initial shock, after your ears adjust they all sound great.
What’s up Euge! My mesa boogie TC50 combo has a LOT of midrange with its v30 (even with the mid eq at its minimum)… a creamback would attenuate it? Thanks and cheers from Brazil!
Greenback or Creamback 65 most likely. Like you heard the Creamback 75 has lots of mids 👌.
Please write in the description which speaker is the best with plexi. It’s hard to hear if you are saying greenback or cream back 😅
That’s up to anyone’s personal preference. I usually go with Greenbacks but I’ve recorded lost of stuff with Creambacks & V30s too 👌. With a Plexi.
Thanks!
I think that cab loaded with two creambacks and two greenbacks in that cab would be real nice.
Thanks!! exactly what I wanted to know.
Glad to hear it!
Hi Sir! Have you tried a masa 412 cabinet? I know speakers make a difference, but what about the cabs? I have heard so many good things about the mesa, what is your opinion? Is it worth the price? It is double the Marshall 412!
Yeah I’ve recorded a few albums with one. Cyhra’s first and second albums being the latest ones. It does the job just fine but mostly I use Marshalls.
Jcm + vintage;
5150 + greenback 25;
Plexi + g12-h
Those 4 me, sir!
🎉
Awesome review brother
Glad you liked it. Thanks!
Indeed. I recorded Cyhra’s ’No Halos In Hell’ with ENGL & Mesa 4x12s, both loaded with V30s and completely different sound.
@@EugeValovirta230V Which of those cabinets do you prefer?
Nice cab and speakers bro.👍👍👍🤟🤟🤟i have a 2×12 that has 2 greenbacks from 1971.ive never change or play anything other than the vintage greenback .simply the best of the best ever made period.they make you sound alive coming out from the cone.👍👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
