So is this wool trouser the same as the pant I wear for my suit? Like is there a difference there? Because I wouldn't wear my suit pants or jacket just casually apart from the suit
what's with the war on pleats? as long as the pleats lay flat, there's no added bulk. poorly fitting pleated trousers look worse that poorly fitted flat fronts, but that doesn't mean you should never have pleats. when you have a 30 inch waist, 42 inch hips and, 27 inch thighs, pleats help immensely. *nutcracker theme plays in the distance*
Pleats look like bozo the clown pants. You know how clowns use a metal wire around their waist to make their mid section look fatter? Some concept. Plus its such a boomer move.
@@marc416 well, I'm a millennial. But like I said, if the pants are fitted correctly the pleats will lay completely flat just like flat fronts. They will only open when you need the extra room. (kneeling, taking a larger than normal step, squatting down, etc)
@@canucklehead1937 I am a millennial as well. You ever watch Ashley Weston or Courtney Ryan on the Tubes? Check them out. They have a different opinion than you on pleats as well. I don't mind giving up a little comfort to turn women's heads. Once happily married, pleat away LOL.
@@marc416 Women's heads aren't going to be turned by the absence of pleats. As previously stated properly fitted pleated pants don't show. They lay completely flat.
Hi - I bought the gray and blue wool trousers as suggested and now I'm looking for a brown pair of the affordable variety. What would you recommend? thank you
Lovely lady for sure, and good communicator. But, it's impossible not to think, "Her drapes obviously don't match the carpet...and she's giving image advice?! Huh?" Sorry, but taking fashion advice from someone with an odd image, unnatural hair collar and questionable shirt, is a stretch. Well, a broken clock is right twice daily :) She might have some good tips for others, while being "unique" in her attire and image.
This video was posted many years ago but as I just saw it recently I thought I'd ask a question anyway and see if I get any response(s). If lightweight wool trousers(dress pants) are not to be worn except as a suit, then, it follows that only jeans and chinos can be worn as separates in the warmer spring and summer months. Is this correct? If it is, then, my problem is what do I do with the grey and blue lightweight wool trousers in my wardrobe so I don't look like I don't know what I am doing?
I'm not a fashion expert but wool is a material typically associated with transitional and cold seasons. However as a frequent traveler I have to say that wool has some interesting thermo-regulating properties. For instance my merino T-shirts feel pleasantly warm when it's cold but (somewhat counter-intuitively) they feel colder than cotton when it's hot. So, it wouldn't surprise me if lightweight wool fabric was functional even during summer. But whether it earns any style points I can't say :) Maybe linen would be a more natural choice (?)
On your wool trousers guide, under your budget friendly options, the Uniqlo link directs to pleated trousers. Was that intentional? You did mention we should never wear pleated...
She is wrong. High rise, pleated pants that are tailored are the most flattering pair you can own. Flat front slim trousers like she favours are horrible on people with athletic legs or with some extra weight.
I don't wear pleated pants myself but pleats do serve a purpose. They make the pants More comfortable for gentleman with a paunch. They also allow men to carry things in their pockets, something women will never know as they have purses. They also make sitting down more comfortable if the pants material is not stretchy. Hope you don't dispense advice by looks alone but state functionality so viewers can have choices and empower them to decide for themselves.
Great advice. But you can wear black wool trousers without looking like a waiter. You just have to make sure that the cut is really nice. I buy all my trousers from two places: Fred Segal & Barney's...and half of them are black. But my trousers are Dries Van Noten and Comme Des Garcons...
great video .also wondering what's some good brands for slim fit like myself or some brands that are in the video.im 5 7 and 136 pounds.so hard finding a good pair without getting it tailored

Anyone know where I can get some trousers that I can wear during the summer? I'm trying to up my wardrobe game but I'm not about to die of a heatstroke in the name of fashion.
Great advice thank you Ps; I wear pleats because of a protrusion that seems to drag peoples eyes down which is uncomfortable to say the least. I would rather have impression of extra weight than the annoying eyes on slim fit.
Hi Ashley, quick question, what about flannel and herringbone wool trousers? I'm having a hard time figuring out which would be suitable for casual wear (sneakers), it's all a minefield!
I didn't know you could speak dolphin?! ;p. but seriously great tips on how to wear them. would you said wool trousers are more for dress then practical use?
Ashley Weston thanks for the reply, I don't think I worded my Q very well. I mean-- instead of the dark brown shoes in this video paired with the dress pant Colors you're recommending... could you swap those shoes for light brown?
Pleats are 100% elegant and fine - if done correctly. I don’t think they should exist on pants with belt loops. This video is really about “slacks” - good trousers are high waisted, pleated, and cuffed and look good on all bodies when tailored well
I think that pleated trousers definitely can look good if done correctly. That is to say, a slimmer leg. There are just too many bad examples and not enough good examples of it.
Pleats definitely give the trouser a more elegant silhouette, slimming down towards the ankle and snug around the waist. I suspect people (women especially - this seems to be a more common pet peeve with women than men themseves) don't like them because the appearance is very different from the casual, everyday flatfront associated with the sexy and the trendy. Pleated trousers definitely call for suspenders, though, and are overall the dressier option (i.e. require a jacket). They probably work best on a three-piece suit, anyway.
I completely agree. I also must add that it's probably due to the fact that it's associated with the more... senior gentleman. I think that a good example of a pleated, tapered pant is from the 50's and 60's. It was high-waisted as well, which is, yes, more suited to a formal silhouette. I just think that this option shouldn't be thrown out the window. It's a really classic look when done well. But then again, what isn't a great look when done well?
Trippin, we’ll fitted reverse pleated pants are sharp IMO, even the double pleated are classic, , they also fit better on bigger muscular guys, has to be quality thread tho, not the thrift store ones you showed here.. lol ,
No pleats? Worst advise ever! I love inward facing double pleats for my dress trousers (including suit trousers) and outward facing single pleats for my casual trousers. Only denims and chinos look good with no pleats.
She lost me on no pleats. I don’t think she knows much about tailoring and menstrual fashion. Pleats can cause paints to look slimmer, especially front facing ones
Ryzon Zeng personally, I own a pair because of my aviation uniform, but I can tell by experience, it’s not that versatile. I only wear three outfits with it, and I’ve heard many comment about looking like a waiter while wearing the second one: • All black: black double monk, those trousers and a black dress shirt • The same shoes and trousers, a white dress shirt and an olive jacket vest • The second one, just changing the olive jacket vest, but with a charcoal grey one instead. Here I could also change the white dress shirt for a blue one
Ashley, do a video on how badly women feel about pleats. Some men out there still think pleats give them more room and that women don't notice them. Ok Boomer.
Shut up dude, real men know whats up with pleats, they have been around for centuries. They will obviously look bad when you buy them at a trift store or a made to fit store.

I used to hate pleats, myself, but discovered them to make pants so much more comfortable if you carry something in your front pockets.
Finally some edc guy show up. Yeah what would she know? She carries all the things in the purse.
Ok boomer. I would have pleated the fifth on that.
My favorite suits to this day were my suits I bought in 2010 - the last of the pleats.
Wool seems to be the best material! Some of my polyester pants have ripped.
for guys with small hips the pleats are amaZING, especialy if you have larger shoulders , it helps to balance the under side with the uper side....
