As you get older, I believe one of the things that will make you look 10 years. Younger is your posture, the way you walk the way you hold yourself when you’re seen walking across the parking lot and you’re not hunched over or shuffling. Stand up straight, pull your shoulders back Walk like you’ve got some stride. That would be my number one change for older people and I’m 63.
indeed, posture needs training. This dude here is talking lot of useless and baseless crap while leaving really important factors out. Like fitness and good shape. getting rid that beer gut is more important than "comfortable shoes". I wear sneakers! I hated shoes all my life. I am fit, why the heck should i grow grey beard and start to wear shoes? XD
100% agree about posture. I’m 65 and work out 3/4 times a week. This has given me good posture and along with that, great confidence. I’ve been told I look anything up to 15 years younger so I’m not complaining. If you want to look younger you have to work at it and of course that includes diet which is very, very important.
I'm far from being a fitness expert, but totally agree with you there. Along with confidence and being better adjusted mentally, If your BMI is higher than 30%, you're giving yourself some serious handicap to anything you're trying to pull off anyways :)
1. 01:35 Not adapting to the times 2. 03:11 hiding grey hear 3. 04:14 not trimming eyebrows, ear and nose hair 4. 05:12 no skincare routine 06:45 about TIEGE hanley 5. 08:30 not embracing balding 6. 09:51 wearing the wrong shoes 7. 10:39 wearing trendy things 8. 12:42 giving up
You’re spot on. Once we get older, we often forget about fashion. Updating your look, will make you feel younger. Nothing makes you look older than wearing the same clothes year after year!! Been stepping ip and buying newer clothes. People definitely notice!
The key to colouring your hair is to get it done professionally as they will weave in highlights and lowlights. Natural hair isn’t one colour it is dimensional. Also avoid going to dark as it will appear harsh on a more mature face bringing out all the imperfections in your skin we dark shadows under the eyes hyper pigmentation etc
I started going grey (white) when I was 28. Now, 40 years later, I can truly say that I've never really paid much attention to it. It's just who I am. What has surprised me is that every girlfriend since then and now (including my wife), has really liked my hair. They said it made me look "distinguished", "mature", and "trustworthy" and "dependable". Okay, I'll take it.
As i get older and older, i feel that buying a trailer deep in the Forrest and staying out of town is the best way to enjoy the birds and the other critters. They are all quite young looking, especially the birds.
This is excellent advice. I finally have embraced looking the best at my age (63) instead of trying to look younger. No more dyeing my hair and also, I am going to start daily facial care. I do love my comfortable shoes, but I also bought more stylish shoes for when I dress up. Thanks for the great advice and encouraging words!
If you're happy I'm happy for you. But I disagree that using hair color is obvious to the trained eye, which is what he says in this vid. The.trick is to go one shade darker than your natural hair color, and then leave it in for 15 mins instead of the recommend 10 mins. Then wash without shampooing for 2 days. It looks completely natural.
This could be one of your best videos so far. Not for the contents, those are always great, but for your speaking style. Everything is perfect, yout tone, your timing, the pauses, the phrases, the smirks. Almost hypnotic!
Weight/physical health should also be mentioned. Being overweight ages people greatly. Relates to this, wearing clothes that fit (not too tight!) helps as well. Wearing the same size as when we were 20 years old doesn’t happen for most men.
T agree 100%. Moisturizers actually stop your skins natural ability to produce its own. Like chapstick, the more you use the more you need to use. Eye drops same thing. Viagra, same thing. etc Women are hooked on moisture cream so the products people are looking to capture another audience. Women always want to fix something on a guy. Easier to fix a shoe than the guys flabby body.
Yes, excellent comment! Staying active like walking and weight training as well as eating healthy are so important. Not only will folks look and feel better, a healthy lifestyle increases your energy level making seem younger. I also practice goal setting and planning for my retirement years. Having these specific and exciting goals keeps me focused, disciplined, and excited for the future.
@@friendly76I agree. I’m 56 and started hitting the gym and watching my eating habits for the first time when I turned 48 and I never looked as good as I do now, muscular and all 💪 my best shape ever since I always was a scrawny guy. I even have girls 20-30 years younger hitting on me every once in a while now and I love that.
Full transparency, I'm 46-years-old currently and when I was a teenager I noticed my father buying outfits I would buy. I noticed him dressing like he was my age, etc.., it taught me not to do that when I get older:) HA!
I had a similar lesson at about 37. I was on a train wearing what I normally wore (the same old style for the last 20 years) and two guys in their late 40s got on, one dressed really well (Tweed Blazer, Brown Brogues, well fitting dark jeans, tucked in shirt, grey hair and short beard, he also looked in better than average shape) the other guy was dressed just like me, even had the exact same sneakers, as well as a younger person hairstyle with added obvious looking hair & beard dye, it really made the other guy look fantastic while the other trying way too hard to be youthful made him painfully look older. I reconsidered my wardrobe in the next few days, don't think I ever wore a pair of sneakers again casually and clothing that younger people wore. In fact, the other guy with the greying hair and Tweed blazer became my older person role model. I was even considering beard dye as my beard at that time was 25% grey, I just trimmed it down so it looked neat. Its a great lesson to learn while younger rather than too late.
Nicely put, and I agree on most points with some caveat on wearing trendy things: I think it makes a huge difference if you are trying to look young by wearing trendy things or you simply like wearing trendy stuff. In the latter case, if it comes across naturally as your style, you can wear it regardless if you are 20, 40, or 90.
Started losing my hair many years go and have been shaving my head since then and I love it. I am now 58 and I get many compliments on how good it looks
I agree with those who say staying in shape makes you look and feel younger.
It is definetly better to try to embrace whatever you think looks bad on you. I got my first grey hair when I was in high school and by my mid twenties I was completley salt and pepper, and now in early thirties I am mostly grey. And I had a really hard time getting to grips with it. Especialy in college. I mean it did looked wierd. But at some point I got to terms with it I let the beard grow out and started to dress more maturely and (at least I think so) learned to use it to my advantage. After getting my first job I was later told that the fact that I looked older, more experinced and reliable helpped getting me the job. The wife liked it too 😀
Fair advice. Im 47, and I do dye my hair, but I agree that this can look really jarring on some men. For me its a matter of using the right color and doing it properly. Almost all women my age dye their hair, I dont feel like there is much of a difference. Gray hair can look quite sophiticated, and it can also make you appear washed out, frail and way older than you are. I dont feel like dying your hair is a dealbreaker if youre pulling it off. Great content as always.
100% agree. On some skin tones grey hair looks great. If you are pale (like I am) it doesn’t look so great-as you said you end up looking washed out. A good color job can help, along with a good haircut, and if it’s maintained well.
I am just about 66 - so, a few things I do and have learned. Embrace the grey hair or lack of hair. Even young guys can be balding or keep shaven heads. I happen to be lucky to have decent hair at (almost) 66. I ditched the dye many years ago. Keep your self in great shape! That's the thing that makes you look old! If you look like a male gymnast (or some version), you will automatically look 30+ years younger. Yes, it can be done with excellent food discipline and good supplements - ditch the alcohol, process foods, and junk foods and especially sugar. I see guys in my Spenga gym in their 40's and 50's and what makes them look their age (and older) is their general body contours (love handles, bellies, and such) and skin tone. Really - aging is up to you. How disciplined are you willing to be with exercise and diet? Skin care? Alcohol and drug use? Taking care of your microbiome? Yes, don't wear dorky cloths - stick to Ralph Lauren and other traditional styles that will make you look your age, but yet somewhat stylish and classically modern. Flirt with the younger girls - but don't take them seriously because they will not take you seriously. Have fun with life.
30+ years? What are you smoking? Nobody mistakes a 60 year old for a 30 year old. I never have. They just look like a fit 60 year old. Oh and the word dorky went out with parachute pants 😂😂😂

It’s so interesting. At 51, watching this video feels like a lot of commons sense rules that I already follow. BUT, when I look around at my workmates and acquaintances, almost all of them are making most, if not all, of these mistakes. When I get to work I get compliments on various things regarding my appearance and I’m always surprised, because again it feels like common sense. I suppose people are shocked because most guys are making the mistakes you’ve listed here. I think I might share this with some friends, see what happens. Lol
Accept that your getting older and age gracefully I'm 71 and have never regretted aging I excercise 5 days aweek watch what I eat which I always have done shaved my head when I started losing hair and grew a beard which is totally white dress sharp and people don't believe me when I tell them my age it's a matter of self respect and not letting the old man in.
I started with a few gray hairs in my 20s. Now I’m in my 50s and I’ve got a nice patch of gray in my temples and sides, and quite a bit in my crown. I’ve had numerous stylists tell me “please don’t color these gray hairs out, they look so great”, so I don’t. You can’t reverse the clock, plus, it looks good. I love your channel, I’m trying out the product. Thanks for being there!
Very sound advice contained in this video. May I add another suggestion? Whatever you wear, take the trouble to look after your clothes properly, this is so important..When I return home I immediately hang my overcoat or jacket, my trousers or jeans and my shirt and change into something more suitable for lounging around or cooking, etc. My clothes last me a very long time and always look good on me.
Great video, liked and subscribed. Another tip if you're older (I'm 53) don't grow a beard as it's likely grey and a beard will make you look older. (Facial hair simply makes you look older.). Also for dress I've always tried to pattern myself after Cary Grant. He still looks timeless and amazing even in his much older years. If we all dressed like Cary Grant the world would be a better place. :). So as we age be exceptionally well groomed (Hair, face, overall appearance) dress well / classically (again Cary Grant) and everything else you cover in this video. Thanks.
I'm 65 now with a bit of a gut, but that doesn't stop me from making an effort at looking my best. And it can be done simply, without breaking the bank. For Fall, Winter, and Spring, I wear button down, mock or turtleneck shirts under a half-zip sweater. Business casual, or five pocket pants in a variety of colors, and chukka's or oxford shoes. Perfect for me. Not too boring, and not too hip. (Provided they are all quality garments. Don't buy CHEAP!) For Summer, it's mostly shorts, "modern fit" polo's, and casual footwear. (Rockport, Cole Haan, Johnston/Murphy, etc) As you invest in your wardrobe, a little at a time, you'll discover different color combinations that maybe you never considered before. What you have becomes more versatile. It really doesn't take much to stand apart from the crowd. All the best guys!
You are wearing the very same sweater/blue shirt combo I wore my senior year in High School(1983), and it looks good on you.! It goes to show fashion is circular. I wore my Father's argyle socks in high school and they were fantastic!
Speaking of living in the past, what makes me long for my youth is knowing the internet didnt exist yet, and being able to live one's life without being subjected to miilions of "influencers" telling me to never live in the past.
Another thing I will add about feeling old or young is getting all your affairs in order for where you want to be in life. It may be easier said then done but when you are where you need to be in terms of security of your life and ownership of things you desired to acquire by that specific age. You feel old when you are not where you need to be in life and you feel younger when you are on schedule or ahead of where your expected goals are.
Great video. Excellent advice! There is a fine line dividing between a men after his 40s dressing well and not so much. Trying to look younger is not always good, it backfires pretty easily. The clothes that are too tight (pants, t-shirts, shirts, blazers, etc) Using those ripped jeans Not upgrading the shoe game (nothing against using red Converse or black Vans, but maybe using them in the right place and time) And the list could go on forever and ever... I think that a big part of this game is being nonchalant, the opposite as everyone knowing you are trying too hard.
I agree with your overall philosophy. The difficult part for many is the execution. BTW, I don't know how old you are, but your outfit makes you look more conservative and therefore older. That sweater doesn't complement you. There is also that thin line between not caring what people think and run the chance of looking ridiculous. But then you have people like Johnny Depp that go back and forth over the line.🙂
yes... get rid of that sweater... and whats with the poorly shaped shirt under it? Its like you are afraid to look as young as you are! All through your talk I was re-dressing you with more stylish clothing. Who on earth told you that you look good in that conservative crap? The only attractive thing about you is your face. Let your clothes keep up with your face.
Some may disagree, but I find that a beard, especially a goatee in your 40s and 50s make you look older. The goatee seemed to be the thing for awhile and a lot of older guys I know still have it. I think the best advise for looking younger is stay slim, well groomed, clean cut, no beards and no hair dye. You can't do anything about gray or balding, just keep everything neat. Totally agree on the nose, ear and eyebrows. I am a guy and when I see guys my age not taking care of that, it's gross. Also, if you clothes don't fit anymore, get rid of them.
Beards are death. It's for dudes that aren't getting laid anymore and they are trying desperately to show they still are men. But they look terrible and basically a fraction of a percentage of women like them.
Great Video, Brian! In the last couple of years I say my style game went up some: I'm incorporating casual dress shoes (Rockport, Cole Haan, etc) with my denim and I wear vest/sweaters with my oxford/dress shirts. As for my hair, It has been receding so I have taken up shaving my head. Low Maintenance rocks, but my sister says "Why shave your head, you look great with a little hair." Finally, I lost over 25 pounds and two pants sizes in the last several month and family & colleagues have noticed how slimmer I look!😃😃. I wish I could show you my wardrobe choices on YT. I feel I dress appropriately for a 45 year old.
Brian, I'm 53 years old, 6' 195 lbs and loved your video. I agree with all of it, though I do colour my hair and find a way to not make it unnatural. Here's what I do to not look even older than I am: 1. Sleep. I try and get a minimum of 7 hours, preferably 8 a night. 5-10 years ago, 6 hours worked for me, but as I have gotten older, I need rest. Want to look and feel old? Get limited sleep. How you feel in your 50's with limited sleep will impact how you look. 2. Supplements. I take them ALL. Omega 3-6-9's 3 x a day. Collagen powder mixed with water in the morning. Multi-vitamin at night. Biotin/Ceramide supplement to promote healthy skin. I also take a milk thistle supplement 2x a day to promote healthy liver function. 3. Exercise. In the old days I would lift weights 3-4 x a day with limited cardio (maybe a 10 min warmup). Today? I don't lift weights. I do cardio 3-4 times a week, using either an elliptical trainer or a treadmill. I get my heart rate up and do 20-30 mins of sustained cardio while I watch the news in the morning. I follow that up with 100 ab crunches with a 20 lb medicine ball. That's all I do. Lifting a lot of weight is strenuous for me as I get older. 4. Diet - no dry carbs. No pasta, no rice, no starchy grains. I eat meat, fish, chicken, vegetables fresh or frozen, same with fruit. I have a protein shake with isolate whey protein, a banana, frozen fruit, unsweetened coconut milk, and kefir with probiotics. I also do intermittent fasting. I stop eating at 8 pm. Only water after that. I don't eat until noon the next day, and the first thing I have is a superfoods green drink mixing greens powder and water. i then have a protein shake. Both are taken first to satisfy my hunger and prevent me from eating unhealthy foods after not eating for 16 hours. I then have a healthy salad or a bowl or organic soup, an afternoon snack, and dinner around 7. 5. Grooming - i have my hair cut every 4 weeks, with a trim two weeks after my cut to keep my hair neat looking. I still have a full head of hair - I take the omega supplements as well as collagen powder, plus biotin/ceramide supplements to feed my body from the inside. I do have a few 'thinner' areas, and use Nioxin once a day on that one area of my head. I colour my hair and eyebrows once every 2-3 weeks. I also go to an esthetician and have my eyebrows waxed. I have a body trimmer and a nose trimmer and every sunday, trim body hair everywhere and use my clippers to keep my fingernails and toenails trimmed and neat. I also keep my teeth white, using my sonic care toothbrush and toothpaste that contains hydrogen peroxide. I also use a gentle facial wash, typically with glycolic acid or salicylic acid to gently exfoliate my skin. I use quality skincare products from companies like Clarins, Clinique, Men's Science or Baxter's. I use a serum morning and night, typically with gentle acids and vitamin c to keep my skin tone brighter, and in the daytime use Jack Black double duty moisturizer with SPF 20 on top of the serum. At night, I use a serum and then use either Clinique Turnaround night moisturizer or Kiehl's Overnight rehydrating mask. Want to not look old? Wash your face with gentle, quality products, use a serum first on clean skin and then put a quality moisturizer on top. 6. Fashion - I wear modern clothing from all major fashion brands. Nothing I wear is 'trendy' or advertises a brand like 'BOSS' or 'Dolce and Gabbana'. I have my suits fitted perfectly to fit me, wear Zegna, Corneliani, Tiger, Sand, etc. - all with modern cuts, softened shoulders. Regardless of brand, how a suit fits you is more important than anything else. I wear modern jeans, chinos, shirts,. I don't look like I am 30 years old, though I am typically mistaken for someone in their 40's, not their 50's. One final comment: 7. you can have the best diet, wear clothes that don't make you look old, etc. but how you behave, how you speak to others in a modern and contemporary way, not living in the past, not using 20-something millennial street slang is also a way not to appear too 'old'.
@@declankelly9829 I have been married for over 25 years and have two kids. Both played competitive sports and I was actually fit enough to play with them/practice them into my 50's. Because I don't drink excessively and do not eat bad food (low cholesterol, low sugar) and exercise regularly - it helps that I am able to spend time with my family instead of being physically aged to the point where I can't do things at my age. The reality is that as we get older, there are things we cannot avoid, and things we can prevent. As I get older, my skin has gotten naturally drier. I can choose to use a moisturizer every day or let my skin get more wrinkled. Will it matter to those who love me? Probably not. As I get older, I can let all my hair fall out or (in some cases - not all), I can take supplements with biotin and collagen to help my hair follicles stay healthy. I do what I do to stay healthy and to feel good about myself. I don't do it to feel 'more loved'. I have a LOT of friends who are the same age as me who are less healthy and are overweight. Some are happy. Some are not. My attitude is that everyone is different, but in the end, it's about being happy. How about you Declan? How old are you? How healthy are you? Do you exercise, take care of your skin and watch what you eat? Do you care ? What is your experience?
I've been shaving my head for 8 years, so going gray wasn't a big deal for me. During those times when I forget to shave, or run out of razors, I look 10 to 15 years older. Another tip is to have the body of a 25 year old guy by consistently working out.
I'm turning 54 years old in February. My default hair cut is a military high and tight. I've accepted the fact that I'm losing my hair. The high and tight reminds me of my time in the Marines. What are your thoughts?
Two years ago I got issues with my feet. Instead of going the comfort shoe path I got myself a pair of custom medic insoles. The issues disappeared and I can still wear good looking shoes.
Staying in shape and maintaining good health should be the number 1 concern. Because sickness and infirmities can actually make a person looks much older (even if you are only 20s). Also, take care of your teeth and make sure you wear dentures if needed. At the end of time, no matter what external enhancements you do can 100% compensate in turning back the hands of clocks. IT'S ALL IN THE MIND. If you think you are old, then you will act and feel old. But I admire those who are already in their 60's and 70's and yet being with them, seeing how they embrace life and still keep on learning new things even after retirement - they are the most interesting people to be with. I rest my case now. And by the way, YOU STILL LOOK HOT despite your age! Hahaha
Hi Brian - it's been a while! Great vid. At 60, your thumbnail obviously caught my attention. ;-) I agree with all your tips/suggestions. A couple side notes from someone who is there living it! lol If you find an excellent colorist that can make your hair look 100% natural - I say go for it. I would not try to do it yourself at home out of a box and if you look good with a greying or balding head- definitely go that route - it's much less work! Coloring isn't the most economical, low maintenance way to go - but I've been very happy with it for about 5 years now (too bad we can't post pics on YT). Just my two cents. Second tip from this "old man" - I have my ears and nose hair waxed once a month - it may sound painful, but it really isn't bad at all and they will be smooth as butter after - you'll be addicted. It's also fairly inexpensive.
Balding is not so much an aging issue as a genetics issue. The comb-over is the worst possible choice a man can make. Long gray hair is the second worst. Now that I've got 60 in the rear-view mirror, I find it is a bit more challenging to look stylish without looking "styled." That is the key, and it's not the same for any two men.
Being bald and letting the sides and back grow is the absolute worst look possible and I see it all over the place and I can't believe it! My brother does it but he's given up.
Guys pay attention. I dated a lady 16 years younger. She told me “thank God you don’t wear old man pants.” She later explained faded blue jeans not limited to but including Levi’s 501. I always wear a dark blue jean when I do wear them. It’s worked for me. Tip 2, in summer stay away from cargo shorts. Yes they are handy to wear, but it’s as boring to her, equally as boring as a woman in pajamas are to a man. Tip 3. Stop tucking in your shirt which highlights your gut. Unless you are wearing dress clothes, it’s seldom a good idea to have shirt tucked in
I'm 77 & I've always felt that the way that older men could look younger, ( not counting plastic surgery). is 1. keep a normal weight 2. keep a neat haircut 3. moisturize with noxzema or similar 4. don't go out of the sun w/o using sun blocker 5. wear stylish but appropriate clothes! But unfortunately, age catches up to us all, so unless you're Cary Grant , Roger Moore, etc., get used to being older, after about 80!
Man the issue with hair everywhere is crazy! I’m noticing that hair comes in faster and thicker or that one long strangler that constantly sticks out.Thankful that we have better grooming options now to tame the forest everywhere. I will admit to dying every now and then or playing with colour to mix it up for a fresh look. I dont mind because it’s for me to feel good 👍🏿. I embrace my salt and pepper while changing it up once in while.
I’m not stuck in the 80s but I am 51. I don’t think about hiding it but I do find my greys unappealing but I don’t dye my hair since I cut my hair mega short. I also don’t think about fashion or dressing my age or anything I don’t have anything from the 1980s. For work business casual for anything else I just wear whatever I want. But I will say this - get your exercise in- workout strength and cardio very import. Get rid of the dumpy body - you don’t have to look like Thor just lose the gut. All those guys you mentioned are celebrities- not that they aren’t good looking with a dash of salt but I’m just saying. I am wearing my graphic T-shirt’s still but this isn’t to mask my age. It’s what I like not camouflage.
no mention here of how important being fit is .. having no gut .. being toned trim and fit in and of itself makes you look younger and you look more youthful in whatever clothes you might choose to wear. also regarding the hair dyeing .. there are some very good hair dyes out there .. the trick to looking natural is to find one that matches with your skin tone AND to leave a slight bit of grey at the temples and/or sideburns .. PRO TIP: use a women's brand - much greater choices/selection to find the right match to your skin :)
I’m 50 and am 60% grey. I used to always keep my hair short but with grey hair it looks really nice for me (with the bit of curl I have) to keep my hair about an inch and a half on top. I can just wake up and pretty much do nothing with my hair and it looks kind of crazy sometime yet cool. I usually dress pretty nice and am physically fit so it counters nicely any homelessness my hair might project 😂. Do t get me started on ear hair! 😔
Not to get caught up too much in semantics...but I started to color my hair so that I would not look older than I was...rather than trying to look younger. It is not the fact of coloring ones hair that can be dicey, but the WAY it is done. If the color is close to ones natural shade, and not terribly darker or lighter, then like the old ad says: Does (s)he or doesn't (s)he? Looking like you dipped your head into a bowl of black ink is not the way to do it.
Looking older (and wiser) isn't always a bad thing: had a psychiatrist friend who had a really hard time getting his patients to open up because he looked too young (almost verbatim: 'what do young people know about life anyway?'). Also as an aside, waking up with aging joints suck. - Han
I'm 54 and have had some form of facial hair most of my adult life, it's always suited my face to have some style of facial hair, of course it was dark hair. Now it's almost completely grey and for ages i was self concious about having a grey beard, but lately so many people have told me that I Iook so much nicer and more handsome with a neatly trimmed full grey beard, it just suits me, I will be sticking with it from now on. I have a friend my age who uses a dye to make his beard black and suggested i use it, but I think it looks totally ridiculous it looks so fake like he has coloured in his face with a black sharpy marker.
Re: shoes. Guys in their 50s-60s who wear tailored suits but super stylish/hip/colorful trainers, look pretty good imho. Not clunky comfort shoes but well made trainers with cool color combos. I see this a lot in my professional world (creative class, designers, architects) and these guys also pair a hip set of eyeglass frames. Dudes in their 60s who look creative and stylish. Not everyone can pull this off. Helps to be fit and in shape.
My guy is a 57 year old blue collar worker, gets a haircut every 6 weeks, sports a well cropped goatee maintained with a trimmer, splashes on inexpensive aftershave ,washes his hair and body with a 3-1 product and looks and smells scrumptious.Wears straight leg Wranglers/Levis and tshirts that fit him like a glove.I love that he rolls up his sleeves as it shows off his arms.Don't care abouts mens footwear but he does look sexy in his work boots. My crush on him hasn't faded.I'm the lucky one.I got the man of my dreams. All he has to do is look into my eyes and smile and I'm putty in his hands.
I don't know if your logo is brand new or not, but it is new to me. Just want to say as someone who's worked with graphic designers for decades I find it really professional. Kudos!
Great video. I'm already doing all of this. I get a lot of advice from my daughter who is a cosmetologist. I started going bald at 40 and decided to shave my head. I have received several compliments from women. Apparently, according to them, my head is the right shape for shaving. I wish all the hair would fall out so I wouldn't have to shave it (I'm lazy).
I turned 50 and went a bit nuts... I cannot believe where the last 30 years have gone... Yesterday I was dragged into Tiffany's kicking and screaming where I was corned into buying a whole heap of mens jewellery... I was so hesitant... hated it... then something snapped... bracelets, rings... its vulgar to discuss price, it was A LOT... but... I have never felt so alive... My whole look has completely changed. My drab old suits suddenly are alive and sparkle... Gentlemen... get into mens jewellery... find your thing and express yourself. After years of study and work and family etc etc... spoil yourself... you are worth it!
Why would anyone want to be told how to look or dress ? Important thing is do what you want and stop caring what others think. Im 63 and I've coloured my hair and beard since my late 30's, people are shocked if I tell them because they say they thought it was natural, leaving my hair white ages me so much, people don't believe me when I tell them I'm 63 it's just the way I look, some people will always look younger no matter how they dress etc, just as some people look old all their lives.
I agree with the comment on grey hair. The only thing I would add to that is that your hair should be well groomed as you age. A grey Mohawk is not a good look as you get older (in my opinion!)
I’m going to have to disagree with you on “comfort shoes.” When I first started working after college, I had a job that required a suit and tie every day. My boss was an older gentleman, in his sixties, who definitely had some trouble being on his feet all day long. As a result, he started wearing the first generation of these hybrid dress shoe/sneaker shoes. While not an ideal solution, it at least allowed him to look presentable in the board room. So the realities of getting older sometimes force us to adopt footwear for orthopedic reasons, and those shoes are just not as attractive or stylish as other dress shoes.
I think it's wise to follow a bit of fashion that never goes away year after year, whats new collers fabric etc. But the first step is to live a more active life. Take care of that body. Think of yourself as an investment. But i truly understand its hard to maintain
I'm 44 and my dad always had bushy wild eyebrows. I wanted so badly to take a trimmer to his funeral and trim them in the casket so I could see him once with trimmed eye brows before he went into the dirt. Used to drive me crazy. I've been using the same Norelco electic beard trimmer for probably 15 years at least, and it came with several attachments. I use one to keep my brows in check.
For me personally it's grooming and glasses. I'm not *that* old (yet) but staying well groomed (hair, beard, eyebrows, nose/ears) makes such a huge difference for anyone! I'm balding, so I'm rocking a buzz cut and a short beard, but when it grows out a bit (within a 3/4 day span) I immediately age 10 years. What multiplies this effect is when I'm wearing my glasses instead of contact lenses. Not saying every pair of glasses makes you look older necessarily, but it definitely can. So be aware.
I've discovered Just for Men shampoo. It is very gradual, and desn't at all look like Ijust put shoe polish on my hair. I use it a couple to three times a week. Istill have grey on the sides.
I think one can embrace balding by still keeping your hair as well. Not everyone looks good in it, but there are many people who wear the bald haircut very well, like Bernhard Roetzel, Peter Stormare, or even Larry David. I think the key is combing the hair back and not trying to hide the baldness.
In "Seinfeld," Larry David annoyed me with his loud stance on pro-baldness. The "George" character wasn't allowed to wear a toupee. Yes, Jason Alexander looked 100% better in a toupee. Yes, the George character needed to be "a short, stocky bald man," as George described himself. But Larry David wants everyone in the universe to be bald. It's a choice, Larry, okay?
The problem with a toupée is that, if you're single, you're setting all your relationships up for inevitable disappointment. There is no way to avoid a woman eventually discovering that you're bald. Most women would respect a man more for being bald and proud from the get-go.@@mt.shasta6097
As someone who is now 37...thank you. This is coming and I need to deal with it. Also when it comes to clothes, also remember WHERE you live. You can't wear trendy things in the country after a certain age, or it looks very very weird where all the men over 40 are sporting beards, beer belly's and button up plaid.
I think it's good to try and look our best as it shows self-respect. At 72 I do that when I go out, but I don't care as much as I used to. So, although looking good is a factor, my first thought is personal comfort. Around home, I wear whatever is clean and available. My wife sometimes teases me about my old T-shirts, etc.
Ozempic is making a lot of people look older whether they are young or old. Rapid weight loss will result in sagging skin and, after a certain age, the skin has lost the elasticity to tighten back up. My personal philosophy is "you don't see wrinkles on a balloon" ;)
Also a Short spiked hair do , other than long slick comb over , that ages you and looks tired. Even if you’re bald, you look better with a short cut, or shaved rather than trying to hide it . Also, Muscle up, cut and toned. Hint , you Yourself, would look better as described, or even a lighter color, or blonde highlights, or even grey. Loose the slick heavy combed back look.
Attire is completely situational. I’m not dressing the same way if I’m going out to the local big box store, as I am going out with my wife. Also if you buying clothes in a store, that you just don’t fit in. Then you are probably shopping for clothes, for a much younger person. Challenge yourself, go out wearing a nice pair of dark jeans, no distress, a nice pair of loafers, or some kind of nice footwear. Wear a nice looking solid color button down shirt, and a blazer. And of course you want to be well groomed and color coordinated, and a little fragrance goes a long ways. You will have women coming up and starting conversations.
Good advice. The 'Giving Up' piece is really, what it all comes down to. Most of the other reasons are just symptoms of the real problem. Like obesity. That's not a physical problem. It's a mental one.
Hi Brian, Your channel is quite an inspiration and even thought this particular video isn't at the moment for me (I'm still 32) I do like the look of the sweater you are wearing. Could you please point me towards where you got it from and tell me what material it's made of? Thanks
This came up on my feed.... I'm 71, and thankfully my genes left me with a full head of hair, albeit very light grey. I keep it reasonably short but full. Living in Thailand I see all sorts of expats doing silly stuff to try and look younger or hip, but scruffy beards, straggly bald on top hair, singlets and bad teeth are horrible. For myself, a fitness regime involving plenty of cycling, keeping body hair in order ( including the back of the neck ) good dental hygiene and a positive and open attitude work. I keep mentally flexible writing and producing music and although it's not a huge factor, my lovely Thai wife is a bit younger than I and is a calming presence. Even with the heat, a form fitting V neck T shirt or polo and shorts makes you stand out, and feel good. I think I haven't done a bad job....! lol
I'm 55, and the woman I'm currently seeing is 28. In the beginning I thought shaving my salt & pepper mustache and beard would make me look younger for her. But it was quite the opposite...it was that greyness in my beard that turned her on. Be yourself, gentlemen. Groom well, but be yourself.
I can embrace most things about getting older (I just turned 50), but what I can't embrace and have struggled with since turning 40 was my receding hair line.
Great video much appreciated funny you would talk about gray hair because often I get a man in his 60's if I dye my hair I could take off 20 years in my appearance now mind you I have no desire to look like I did when I was in my 20's nor do I wish to even repeat so of the dumb mistakes I made due to a lack of experience in life proud of both my gray hair and beard they are what I consider to be my crowning glory thanks for the video!
Dying the hair is an interesting issue. I turned 64 and have always loved clothes since I was a teenager. Rarely have I followed trends. Though I did do the urban cowboy look for a few months in the late 80s.😄 One thing I have continued to do is dye my hair on a regular basis. However, I've continued to lightened the color over time. I was born with black hair. Now I dye my hair a medium brown. I'm thinking about not dying my hair any longer or maybe try dying my hair grey. I've seen women do this, but not men. What do you think of the idea?
Please don't go grey! I hate when people go grey. No matter what, it makes people look so much older, and all colors fade away. In my opinion, you did the right to do the color a little lighter. The worst is when men get grey beards. Looks like a grandpa. What bothers me most is men with really nice thick hair that let it stay grey. What a shame!
Dress appropriately for your environment. For instance, I live in an adventure sports town that hosts millions of visitors a year. The going style here, as you can imagine, is quite casual. Some visitors dress like they do at home. Wall Street looks out of place here. It’s more noticeable on women who insist on wearing makeup. A woman in makeup looks so out of place it is actually shocking. When I visit a city I’ll dress appropriately. Here, a t-shirt, shorts, and Teva sandals is appropriate for all but the most formal occasions.
Brian your information is always appreciated, but the frequency of the tiege ad videos is getting a little high. Still, thanks for your very good videos.

I agree. I'm 65 and walk every morning. I make it a habit of walking with my head forward and shoulders back.
short hair (I'm getting bald) and shaved beard makes me looks 10 years younger. Also just going to the gym improves confidence.
Where u from buddy?
Definitely.

I'm far from being a fitness expert, but totally agree with you there. Along with confidence and being better adjusted mentally, If your BMI is higher than 30%, you're giving yourself some serious handicap to anything you're trying to pull off anyways :)

It's the same for me and my fat belly 🤣, they say they like it but really they loved me and didn't want me to feel bad.
As i get older and older, i feel that buying a trailer deep in the Forrest and staying out of town is the best way to enjoy the birds and the other critters. They are all quite young looking, especially the birds.
The older I get, the less I care what other poeple (other than my wife) think of me...
You're very welcome, Danny. Many thanks for watching.
I agree about keeping in shape! But I will say that I'm MUCH fitter now at 47 than I was at 20 and can pull off mediums on everything.
Nope, chubby guys definitely look younger, not more handsome, but they have the baby face thing going on.
I noticed him dressing like he was my age, etc.., it taught me not to do that when I get older:) HA!
what?
I’m 56 and started hitting the gym and watching my eating habits for the first time when I turned 48 and I never looked as good as I do now, muscular and all 💪 my best shape ever since I always was a scrawny guy.
The wife liked it too 😀
Awesome! Thanks so much for sharing your story!

I shave off everything that is gray
It’s so interesting. At 51, watching this video feels like a lot of commons sense rules that I already follow. BUT, when I look around at my workmates and acquaintances, almost all of them are making most, if not all, of these mistakes. When I get to work I get compliments on various things regarding my appearance and I’m always surprised, because again it feels like common sense. I suppose people are shocked because most guys are making the mistakes you’ve listed here. I think I might share this with some friends, see what happens. Lol
Nothing makes a man ( or a woman for that matter) look older than not staying in shape, but that's the hardest thing to do.
It's not hard. You just have to tell your brain that you want to do it.
it's not very hard at all. most older folks are not fit because they don't know how to do it, lack the necessary desire, or both.
Awesome, Robert. Thanks so much for the comment.
This video without any background music feels like soooo full of wisdom...!
Amazing video...!
How do u know your clothes always look good on you? If they last u a very long time it means people never see you with anything NEW!
Thanks.
Thank you, Alexander. Glad to have you. Isn't it crazy that Cary Grant was in his 50s and Grace Kelly in her 20s in To Catch A Thief?
@@hespokestyle absolutely and great movie!
(Rockport, Cole Haan, Johnston/Murphy, etc)
As you invest in your wardrobe, a little at a time, you'll discover different color combinations that maybe you never considered before.
Interesting observation 💯
Great video. Excellent advice!
There is a fine line dividing between a men after his 40s dressing well and not so much.
Trying to look younger is not always good, it backfires pretty easily.
The clothes that are too tight (pants, t-shirts, shirts, blazers, etc)
Using those ripped jeans
Not upgrading the shoe game (nothing against using red Converse or black Vans, but maybe using them in the right place and time)
And the list could go on forever and ever...
I think that a big part of this game is being nonchalant, the opposite as everyone knowing you are trying too hard.
Thanks so much for chiming in!
I believe the object is not to try to look younger, but to look your best at the age you're at.
Brian,
I'm 53 years old, 6' 195 lbs and loved your video. I agree with all of it, though I do colour my hair and find a way to not make it unnatural. Here's what I do to not look even older than I am:
One final comment:
7. you can have the best diet, wear clothes that don't make you look old, etc. but how you behave, how you speak to others in a modern and contemporary way, not living in the past, not using 20-something millennial street slang is also a way not to appear too 'old'.
GOSH... after all that work on your body you have to DIE! What a shame. And were you loved more because of it all?
Maybe get off the Whey it's lactose and your muscles will atrophy as you age without some type of resistance training.
Hey ..we are all ageing and heading in the same direction ..so just chill..we all on the same path...just at different times ❤❤
I've been shaving my head for 8 years, so going gray wasn't a big deal for me. During those times when I forget to shave, or run out of razors, I look 10 to 15 years older. Another tip is to have the body of a 25 year old guy by consistently working out.
Love it! I got over trying to have hair a while ago, just turned 50, and when I wear a suit people call me Jason Statham. Nailed it!
Rock on!
I'm turning 54 years old in February. My default hair cut is a military high and tight. I've accepted the fact that I'm losing my hair. The high and tight reminds me of my time in the Marines. What are your thoughts?
Fellow ret military guy, in 2nd career, yes, fully concur w/ the high & tight. Less is more as we “mature”😂
Two years ago I got issues with my feet. Instead of going the comfort shoe path I got myself a pair of custom medic insoles. The issues disappeared and I can still wear good looking shoes.
Sweet! How are they doing?
Yeah, im 65 and weay blue jeans & Ac/Dc tee shirts
If that's what makes you happy, why not?
Ewww!!!!
I’m “6.0” 175 and 57. Proudly embracing the blend of the casual Mr. Rogers look and business modern tapered suits.
Long grey hair can look just fine. If you still sport a full head of hair go for the Franz Liszt hairstyle and wear a black suit and shirt.
Unless you are wearing dress clothes, it’s seldom a good idea to have shirt tucked in
If you have a drill sergeant type
flat stomach….. a tucked in shirt with a belt is sharp
Or dont care what people think and be a man. Just do what you want to do.

I dgaf about what women think about the way I dress.
I'm 77 & I've always felt that the way that older men could look younger, ( not counting plastic surgery).
is 1. keep a normal weight 2. keep a neat haircut 3. moisturize with noxzema or similar 4. don't go out of
the sun w/o using sun blocker 5. wear stylish but appropriate clothes! But unfortunately, age catches up
to us all, so unless you're Cary Grant , Roger Moore, etc., get used to being older, after about 80!
Thank you sir
no mention here of how important being fit is .. having no gut .. being toned trim and fit in and of itself makes you look younger and you look more youthful in whatever clothes you might choose to wear.
also regarding the hair dyeing .. there are some very good hair dyes out there .. the trick to looking natural is to find one that matches with your skin tone AND to leave a slight bit of grey at the temples and/or sideburns ..
- Han
How old are you, Han?
@@hespokestyle I'm 10 years younger than you! 😂
Thanks so much for chiming in.
Mmm, no. At that age get bespoke dress shoes made in London
Lol@ the lazy part
I have seen this many times (I am 61), many fellow men get set in their ways and refuse to keep an open mind to learn and embrace things around them.
Thanks for dropping knowledge, Larry.
I was in denial for a while but I embrace my age now.
Forget wasting money on "rock". Spend it on your kid's education. Nothing makes you look older than loser kid's and grandkids in the basement.
I think you had a mid life crisis and snapped. hope you are within the 30 day return policy. lol
If getting older means "not really caring anymore" than why would you worry about what people think of your shoes and such?
This might be my favorite of your videos.
Ha.
It all depends on the person
COVID forced me to go with the complete head shave. I Loved it!!! I fought it for so long
Started going gray at 25 - never was any point in trying to cover it up hahaha
Has it ever been an issue?
I've discovered Just for Men shampoo. It is very gradual, and desn't at all look like Ijust put shoe polish on my hair. I use it a couple to three times a week. Istill have grey on the sides.
I think one can embrace balding by still keeping your hair as well. Not everyone looks good in it, but there are many people who wear the bald haircut very well, like Bernhard Roetzel, Peter Stormare, or even Larry David. I think the key is combing the hair back and not trying to hide the baldness.
Mussolini was a great bald tyrant give me a break duse
Thanks for the tips Brother, age is bad enough but looking Ridiculous is even worse.
I'm a 57 yr old man that needs fashion advice please. I've subscribed to your channel. What other channels do you recommend?
Ozempic is making a lot of people look older whether they are young or old. Rapid weight loss will result in sagging skin and, after a certain age, the skin has lost the elasticity to tighten back up. My personal philosophy is "you don't see wrinkles on a balloon" ;)
I was coloring my goatee and it was obviously unnatural. I have since let it go totally grey and I like it.
I'd love some ig recommendations. I'm 51 and live in FL, so warm weather styles would be great! Thank you for this video!
Let's face it.. aging sucks! We just gotta try to make the best out of it.. work out, dress well, acquire new skills and make use of our experience.
Good advice. The 'Giving Up' piece is really, what it all comes down to. Most of the other reasons are just symptoms of the real problem. Like obesity. That's not a physical problem. It's a mental one.
Hi Brian,
Your channel is quite an inspiration and even thought this particular video isn't at the moment for me (I'm still 32) I do like the look of the sweater you are wearing.
Could you please point me towards where you got it from and tell me what material it's made of?
Thanks
What’s a good moisturizer for men that doesn’t make you break out?
Thank you very much! Liked, subscribed and shared. My absolute favorite TH-cam channel by far.
Love your channel, your aura with a composed personality is really captivating and especially your flow of talking. ❤️

Feeling comfortable with your appearance is so much more important than fashion.
Could you make a video about how young guys dress and they look older than they are ?
Good topic.
Everyone with gray should rock it!
Dying the hair is an interesting issue. I turned 64 and have always loved clothes since I was a teenager. Rarely have I followed trends. Though I did do the urban cowboy look for a few months in the late 80s.😄
One thing I have continued to do is dye my hair on a regular basis.
