1. for shorts - keep your sneaker choice simple (minimal eg: stan smith or penny loafers). wear no-show socks. 2. for chinos - driving mocassins (great for business casual looks), leather loafers/ dress shoes (formal wear), low-top sneakers (casual), boots (for spring). 3. for jeans - wear anything basically. if you combine jeans + boots, best if you wear skinny/slim fit. 4. dress pants. if you wear dress pants for formal event, wear classic dress shoes. for casual, just like above points. to summarize, know where you're going (casual/formal), choose pants first then pick your shoes. for casual, have fun pairing them. for formal, best wear leather shoes. at this point just write the timeline man *sigh 😮💨
I've been on the fence about running shoes and jeans since i've seen several videos now advising against it and can never understand why since it is all I see when I go out. Glad I can finally rock this look without feeling self conscious about it.
One of the best channels to subscribe to, I am already building a wardrobe for 2023, from work style, to casual to evnt style, all thanks to you and the great channel, as first impressions are lasting impressions and this advice does help in many areas 👍
I believe that women first look at a man’s shoes because they looking for stability. If a man’s shoes are dirty and unkept then she will pass, as this may indicate that the man is unstable (personally and financially). As a 53 year old man, I’m starting to make big changes to my style and wardrobe. This video help a lot. Thanks!!!
I totally agree. The photos add another dimension to the videos. But, I wish you would show them a little longer. They flash on the screen on are gone way too soon. I find that I constantly have to stop the video and rewind.
Hey Ashley, Heres my challenge. How would you dress a rapper like Post Malone, Lil Pump, Migos and such? And what can you say about Jerry Lorenzo’s way of fashion?
+10 points for pointing out espadrilles, -100 points for doing running shoes recommendations 😱! Great video, though - keep up the good work, fair lady!
I have 2 pairs of white trainers, one bluewhite NB trainers, ankle black shoes, black elegant trainers, chelsea boots for winter and autumn - black, gray, brown, dark brown + business shoes dark brown with strap and high boots with laces
I was told to match my shoes ! I feel I’ve been doing a pretty good job , most of the time. But now , I have to match them with pants too !? First I’ll get some pants then start matching .
I wear shorts for a reason. Because summers here in Ukraine are quite extreme and we usually have like 30-35 C in the shade since May till October, inclusive. That is why I hate summer. And of course sandals are the only option. I would literally die in sneakers. So I don't care much whether you like my feet or not))
Ain't no women gonna tell me not to wear sandals or flip flops in the summer! We aren't walking into a club with them on, but perfect for running errands.
For some reason the shoes I wear must look good to my eye but only from my vantage point looking down on them. Any other angle from a mirror or whatever doesn't matter. Its gotta look right as I peer down upon them. Or it's a no go.
@ Ashley. Thank you for the great content. I'm finding your advice and tips very helpful in my upgrading my looks. One question thou. I know you say 'No Black ' Chinos. However my wardrobe consists of black, black and more black..that's my personality and not a fan of bright or lighter colors. ( you can say I'm a bit of a corporate goth style of dresser, black suits with black shirts and black ties and undercoats with various textures to provide some contrast and shading). What would you recommend shoes wise say for a night out clubbing, still look dressed down and casual but with the dark aspect I love?
Might be your personality but the black/goth look definitely doesn’t look good. Has an immaturity to it. Smart black obviously looks good on occasions but doesn’t work day in day out.
and here i was looking to buy a pair carmina navy single-cut oxfords for my wedding... which would probably be paired with a dark grey with a bit of a bluish tint 3 piece suit (But the vest would most likely be a different color) yelp!
What are your thoughts on the hybrid shoe that combines dress show with a sneaker. Wont name the main company but Im sure youre aware of them. Even I can tell these hybrids work well with casual and biz casual outfits. But do you think they go with a suit (assuming color coordinated)? Also, for weekend casual or biz casual, what are your thoughts on monochromatic look. Ex, pairing a navy/white shoe with navy pant, or gray/white shoe with gray pant? Thanks.
Definitely don’t try to “dress up” these types shoes by wearing them with a suit. It’ll look sloppy. Instead, let them add a dressy flair to an otherwise smart casual outfit.
@@MensFashioner pass on suit only or with anything? because I see them all over and I live in LA area and see them with tech company employees to conservative corporations.
I’m old school and the game is all changed now bc back in my days, we used to try to look different from everyone else and get shoe styles no one else has to avoid looking like everyone else. But now it seems there a look everyone shoots for and that find and all, but coming from my gen (boomer) it kind of kills the individuality. It’s kind of everyone shopping at Banana Republic or J Crew and everyone coming out looking the same. Anyway, just getting back into dressing up and want to give my sneaker wear all the time a break.
Thanks dear. I have skiny legs, no matter what I do at the gym. What would be better, to wear tight or loose pants? Perhaps you can do a video for bodys which are not so simetrical :)
Get pants that fit. I'm a thin guy myself and have put on a lot of weight over the last year but I still wear tapered jeans and slim fit chinos because those are the fits for myself.
Hi, on a semi formal occasion I'm wearing black blazer with cream/light grayish color dress pants, can you suggest, which color.. (black or brown shoes) and shirt to go with them?
Ashley what about budget friendly alternative to wool pants like some of my dress pants from zara. They are 65% polyester 5% elastane and 30% viscoze. Ok or no no zone? They are medium heavy and work well in more hotter days but they are not so thick like some wool pants
imitation polyester pants can be fine. See how they feel to you (I have suits from the same maker/similar materials = totally different feels). Also, try flannel wool or brushed cotton pants for a different look and feel. Brushed cotton can be inexpensive.
what is the different between chinos and uniqlo ultra strech skinny fot coloured jeans? Can we pull the same look with those as i see its pretty much identical.
Hey Ashley, It's the attack of the crocs (pun intended). What did them crocs do to you 😃 I mma cop me a pair of them Du/er. And shout-out to your video videographer

Ashley! Where can I buy a pair of espadrilles like the ones you have featured here in the video....? And I swear that if you dont get back to me I will wear sandals everyday this summer.... and tell everyone YOU told me to wear them! lol kidding....

Have to disagree with most of the things in this vid. Especially regarding black chinos. The easiest color to pull off with the right upper and the mute color creates a visually leaner silhouette.
Since when has style ever been about restrictions and censorship? Trying to ban them will only make them the symbolic attire of the rebellious counter-culture.
Good stuff, but (a) black dress shoes can pair quite well with navy suits and (b) "no black chinos" is a joke, right? Black chinos are an extremely versatile piece, and they no more signify that you're a waiter than flannel shirts signify that you're a lumberjack.
Hey, Ashley. Great content. I have seen two videos this week where you call a pair of brown Derby (or Blucher) Brogues by the name of Oxfords. Technically, this is incorrect. Love your videos, otherwise.

espadrille shoes, if you google without putting "mens" in the search youll get a bunch of weird women's sandals.

So if your shoes are supposed match your belt, is there any company that makes both of them?
Allen Edmonds makes belts in their most common shoe colors such as Walnut, Chili, etc. Some others do as well.
Shoes and belt don't need to match; they should just complement each other. Makes your outfit more interesting that way.
