That's a red flag for abuse. Trying to control when she's home and not, and what she does with her daughter (assuming the daughter isn't his from her wording)... Nope. Partners should set boundaries that they're both comfortable with, but controlling is a whole 'nother thing.

Ok guys, it seems everyone has been misinterpreting what's happening. What we see here is a guy with some controlling issues and it has driven her to the point that she's seeking advice. Marriage is a partnership and both parties share and relinquishes control. It is where both persons share their resources and knowledge to make the right decisions and the other can pick up the slack if needs be. Marriage should not be a form of oppression where it seems like she's living with her parents again telling her what she can or cannot do. He clearly has some issues he needs to address because at some point she might eventually leave him. He has to remember she's her own person and he married her because of who she was. Just got to cooperate. Don't steal her freedom of choice.

I was thinking the exact same thing.. this is NOT a marriage... this is control... but luckily he seems as though he doesn't enjoy it at all... it's just that someone gave him a bad piece of advice about marriage and his lifestyle with his wife... so, a little of good advice will turn him around immediately... thankfully... he just seems like the type that once he gets better advice... he's going to adore her as his wife and take care of her needs, wants, and desires and that of his daughter too.. and hopefully they can turn this around fast... because I know he doesn't want his daughter living in this type of misery with her future husband...

I am going to go a bit against the grain here. I think she should not spend as much time at church. Ministry starts at home and if he feels like she is spending too much time at church, she needs to pray about it and step back a bit. Learn how to say no. Now if he is saying no church or no activities at all, there is where the problem lies. He does need to give way a bit more.
