I'm afro-latino, and it is great to see the REAL motherland, as one in America always reps their country and culture, in my case the caribbean, but this, is where it all began.
The South African culture is quite similar to my own in Kenya. That's probably because of the Bantu connection. I believe most communities in Nigeria are Nilotes. That probably explains the difference.
American media teaches us to look down on Africa as if it's 3rd world but it's not working anymore. We see the beauty, the technology, the resources, wisdom and the wealth. We know why the world can't keep their hands off of her

Me being a black man in America, I really enjoy watching Family Feud Africa. This is the first time that I'm seeing Africa in a positive light, because for decades we were taught in America that everything in Africa was primitive, and ugly. This is heartbreaking. 'Primitive and ugly'??? Nothing can be farther from the truth. We feel nothing but pain for black brothers and sisters whose minds have never been permitted to search their own truths and drink from their ancestral springs. Comfort is good, but not when one chooses comfortable blindness. Africa may seem 'ugly' in comparison to technological and social developments in USA for example, but Africa is absolutely surreal and beautiful in comparison to the countries with an overdose of technological/resource development. To be honest, the only things Africans love about foreign advanced countries is the comforts those countries offer. Every African who has had the privilege of being raised in Africa and has imbibed the culture before venturing out to another country, will tell you that the soul, sound, drive, zest, laughter, colors, love, compassion and pride of Africa can never be lost on us not be replaced by fascinating architectures, vaccines or pop culture. I chose to raise my kids here even though I have the means to relocate abroad. I want them to not lose the soul. The rest of the whole world is there for adventures. Africa is soul. Honest to God!

The cultural aspect of asking a woman in marriage for that particular village or tribe is interesting. For us in Fiji if a man is willing to marry a woman, he must approach her family with tabuas (whales tooth) , kerosene, materials , mats etc in other words the more the guys family can produce it shows he is wealthy enough to provide for her and take care of her. In our culture even though many outsiders would view women in our culture as 2nd class citizens, asking for a woman from another family for marriage is sacred. She’s known as the princess of that family she was taught to look after others from a young age. That’s why paying such or giving certain traditional objects were considered highly. Especially the tabua. We call this tradition or custom (LAKOVI) prounounced LAAACOOOVEEE. We still practice this to this day . In some cases when a guy from Fiji approaches someone of a different race, we still do this as a sign of respect to her family.

EDUCATION IS NOT PUSHED HERE FOR CERTAIN GROUPS OF PEOPLE FOUND OUT THAT THEY CALL IT JUST PASS THEM I DROPPED OUT OF SCHOOL IN 8TH GRADE WHEN I WENT BACK TO GET MY HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA THE LADY SAID OH THAT'S UNUSUAL YOU'RE READING EIGHTH GRADE LEVEL I SAID WELL THAT'S WHEN I DROPPED OUT SHE
SAID NO YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND PEOPLE WHO GRADUATE THEY CAN'T READ A GRADE LEVEL I ASKED HER WHAT HOW DID THEY WAIT WITHOUT READING THEY JUST PASSED AWAY NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND WHAT THE HAM!

My family is African American and even though I understand that I am not connected to the culture, there is one thing that I am extremely proud of. And that is family. Parents are still married 50+ years and we were raised with honor and respect and love of God. I am #2 of 4 siblings ,and we are all high achievers. We all strive to make our parents proud and bring honour to our family. This is what I admire with this African culture as well as other cultures like the Japanese culture.
