Thank you for that episode , some valid points to ponder on .
My pleasure Doug 🙏👍
This was a brilliant topic. Great video 👍💯
Thank you 🙏
Cheers Duncan! Interesting topic of discussion. I like your point that when tuning on a dyno one can simply focus entirely on what the car is doing, definitely not always easy on the road, particularly when the kangaroos are out.
When I’m back up and running I’ll take your advice, get the tune as good as it can be on the road, then rent a dyno for the finishing touches and to smooth out the curves.
Look forward to the comparison between British crank hp vs US whp. 😅
Best,
Reuben
Thanks Reuben. Yeah the comparison will hopefully be quite enlightening :)
Great information as always Duncan always need to do your homework before and after no matter how well you think you have done another fount of knowledge you have shared with us thank you 👍👌🙏
My pleasure Grant. Hope it was useful 😎
Yes you can read and learn as much as you want abut you will never beat the voice of experience every day is a school day I’m still learning in my trade after 32 years respect!! For doing what others in your industry would never dream of doing 👌🙏👌🙏👍
1:00 i recognise that white car :D (it's my uncle's car) nice video
😎👍
Two decades ago my STI was road mapped and the speed limiter removed. It ran superbly at around 350 HP. But going home the limiter cut in at 100 Km/hr. So back I went....
Did they put the wrong values in the field for the limiter?
Good vid !Never had a subaru mapped on the dyno, mappers love me driving while they map as I will definitely hold boost correctly and full sends only. Delta dash waste of time agreed.
Shout me I have a car that needs mapping Duncan 👍🏻
Hi Nate.. Sure, where are you based?
Hi Duncan, I had a evo 8 mapped by Norris designs it was on the rollers then he took it out on the road afterwards to check and finish the map the car was spot on afterwards, is there ever a time you feel like you have to check a car on the roads after it’s been on the dyno?
It is rare but some cars do hint at the need during their time on the dyno. It isn't always possible though.
Just wanna say thankyou for all the info you have provided to the community free of charge. Curre tly going through learning how tp tune and hoping its easier that i think its going to be. Been a mechanic my whole life but this is my 1st OBD2 car that ive owned 😂 my question is what do you recommend for a daily 400hp sg forester XT build? Currently collecting parts and saving to biuld my own engine. I have a sti shortblock and debating on doing a 2.3 destrocker as ive heard they feel great (prefer the feeling of NA as we race a biult NA 2.5 forester in lemons) already have a turboXS turbo back exhaust with race cat. Cobb intake, tomei turbo inlet, and larger sti intercooler. Not installed yet as i need to tune for it.
My pleasure sir. If you hop over to the academy I can support you while you tune it, and the guys and me can help with parts etc. It's a well trodden path and pretty straightforward but they are things you need to do to make sure as safely tuned as possible. You have a distinct advantage knowing the mechanics side of things 👍
@racedynamix yes, hence why I'm biulding a new block instead of trying to tune up the current one with 280,000 miles 🤣 🤣
@slippinsideways240sx good plan 👍
Nice one Duncan! keep up the good work & videos
Thanks buddy 🙏
Great video. Thx for sharing
Thank you very much 🙏
Hey mate, do you recommend an 11mm oil pump on a jdm version 9 sti? I’m doing the timing belt soon and wanted to get a new pump in since I’ll be in there anyways.
Hi. Thanks for the question. You don't mention how many miles it has done or what power but the std engine (and oil pump) will cope with around 450bhp and with good maintenence they will last for hundreds of thousands of miles.
If it were mine and I was running less than 400bhp and the mileage was reasonable then I would leave well alone. If the mileage was high then I would give the whole engine a refresh.. rings, bearings and pump.
Have you been having issues with oil pressure?
Can you remap a classic 99 impreza on a alcatec ecu? Managed to find a good used one, haven't fitted it yet as i dont know what map its running, or would i be better off just going with a link g4
Thanks
Yes mate. I just need to know the ecu number in advance so that I can order the access patch 👍
Bob Rawle had a lovely route where we would do road mapping near Swindon. Loved the night and day transformation afterwards.
given time and resource... do both!
dyno tune for the hard stuff...
road for fine tuning or mapping touch-ups...
but if the dyno center to have brake type dyno to vary engine load at variable rpm and throttle position...its all it need..
Exactly 😎
You could use a private road
Or track 👍
Hey Duncan, i have an idea (which you might have thought about already:) imagine (hypothetically) if someone could combine holidays with a bit of tuning? "See the world" they said... I know you'd love to come out to the PNW - you probably have people looking at your stuff who are p'd off at you for what you are doing, so just a hypothetical thought for hypothetical people, who may or may not exist. Nudge nudge, wink wink.
Regards,
Tom
🤔😉
@@racedynamix yeah, lol. Just catching up I guess 🤭 btw I am trying to promote you over here. Once I've deleted this post, I'll pick you up at the airport 🤫
@@mynopensd sounds like a great plan 😀. Would make for a great video series too 😎
@@racedynamix Yes! "It hit me like a tonne of mayonnaise."
