I worked on this. Animating (2-D) much of the electricity that comes out of Lightening. Worked at a cool FX studio in LA called Boss Film. We handled all the visual effects for the film. John Carpenter was great. Easy to work with. I did the scene too where you see Chinese characters floating in the air a bit before disappearing after Lightening gets killed by Kurt Russell. I wasn’t supposed to do that but I did it anyway as a tribute to Carpenter. I didn’t tell anyone I did it. So when Carpenter saw it in dailies and asked someone what is that? They found out it was his name in Chinese. I had a Chinese girlfriend at the time so I asked her to write down those Chinese characters meaning John Carpenter. Then I just drew them into the electricity. Carpenter loved it! So he kept it in the movie. Why it’s still there. Fun project. All the way through.
I've never stopped loving this movie and is probably my favorite movie that John Carpenter Directed. He is also one of my all time favorites Directors.
I (still) have one of those wool pull-over hoodies (from Mexico by way of San Diego) Russel wears, just a different color, used to live in bay area, spent many times in Chinatown hanging out, in the 1970s, visiting small Chinese noodle movie theaters (kung fu films) Bruce Lee movies, Who remember the Golden Dragon restaurant shoot out with Chinese gangs? (machine guns) Love SF and Chinatown, sadly only a small section remains today.
@@STILuVa Also for the many cultural days in my home country of Japan i never seen Chinese wearing Ronin-gasa. I own a Ronin-gasa as well as my husband but interestingly enough my husband owns a Tetsubo battle club.

I’m quite certain I’ve watched this movie 2-3 times a year for 40 years. It’s one of my favorites!
I’ve always loved how Jack has no clue that he’s actually the sidekick.

saw it theaters, saw it in VHS, saw it in HBO, saw it in DVD, and still watch it every time it's on TV. just like Russell said "a good fun time"

I'm teaching my students English with this movie right now.
A movie about a sidekick that thinks he's the hero. Genius.
An Iconic movie.
Classic movie man.
Great movie!!!
Very very good film 🎉
Can you tell I'm a fan...goes back to when I was just a kid back in the 80's.
Banger Cult classic…
Kim Cattrall is so pretty!
When movies were actually good, one of my favorites.
Suzee Pai was fire
This movie needs a sequel
Why? So they can insert The Rock to play The Rock? 😂
@crazyralph6386 who mentioned the Rock? Bring back Jack Burton!
@@talesoftwobros that’s who they were in talks with for a reboot
@crazyralph6386 oh. I know. They don't need to do that. They shouldn't do that. What they can do is have Wyatt Russell play the son in the sequel
@@talesoftwobros agreed!!!
I was three years old when this came out 😢😢😊
This should have a 2024 theater RERELEASE 😮🎉😮
You know what Jack Burton says at a time like this?
@@Otis_b_driftwood who?

Carpenter called this his 11th film, which it was but wasn´t since both Elvis and Someone's Watching Me! were tv movies.
Lo Pan eventually settled down and raised a fine son who became the dragon warrior.
What they call a "cult" classic
always thought the 3 element brothers were ripped off of Lone Wolf and Cub’s Hidari Brothers
especially since they’re wearing Ronin-Gasa
Thought the same thing, even similar weapons minus the super powers.

Wait I know that voice! That's Roy Fokker!
Russel and Carpenter are 2 bad mofos
Wang is not the side kick. He is the hero.
2,000 year old Chinese man named Dave lol
Voted the worst film ever, in my opinion the best ever
China Mortal Kombat 1980s Johnny Cage
James Hong talking like Lo Pan. Like they really talking to Lo Pan not James Hong
My best movie
