    30fps = 80%
    60fps = 40%
    120fps = 20%

      Or, if you ever want to skip the math, you can always right click your footage in the project library and select modify > interpret footage > 24p and it will automatically convert all your higher frame rate footage to 24p :)

      Green Streak when I’m filming 60p and put my shutter speed on 1|25..it always flickers, so I put it on a 100 🧐

    Dude you honestly don’t understand how helpful your videos are, you really connect to the new film makers trying to start off but never learnt all the basics like shutter speed, a lot of bigger channels don’t go through all that basic stuff. Dude I wish you the best with your videos I’m always looking forward to your next video, cheers man!!!

    Great explanation of fps and the relationship to slow motion! I think many of us were guilty at some point of just filming in 24 and trying to slow it down, resulting in a jittery nightmare.

Try new frame rates and shitter speeds, shooting angles, props. See what you can come up with With What You Have Now. You don't need the best gear. Just a creative mindset to use whats available to you now. Thanks Daniel for a super helpful insight. See you next video!

  • @AntonNordstrand

    Good video as always Daniel! You do forget to mention the PAL/NTSC situation though. If you film with 30/60/120 fps in Europe you will most likely end up with alot of flickering from all kinds of light sources. This is due to the 50 hz standard in the electric current overe here. So basicly all the Europeans "need" to change to PAL and shoot with 25/50/100 fps :(

    • @danielschiffer
      @danielschiffer  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mentioned that frame rates will vary depending on what part of the world you're from. However the same concept still applies to PAL. If you're in Europe, than I suppose you can edit everything in 25fps. 50fps would be slowed down to 50%, 100fps would be slowed down to 25% etc. I just didn't want this video to be too long and convoluted- but I hope this helps.

    Feel like a big thing you haven't mentioned is that some camera codecs just offer much smoother slow motion. For example Sony's A7iii vs the Canon 1dx mkii, even though you might shoot at the same frame rate, the canon's codec makes things look less jittery, which is one of the reasons people like Peter Mckinnon and Matti Haapoja use it.

    Nice explanation! Always like your videos!
    2 Questions regards framerate:
    1. I know there is a way in Premiere to set all the footage in a conversion of your timeline. I am using FCPX, is there a way as well? Would be nice if I set the timeline to 24p and have a clip @60fps or 30pfs I do not have to 'optimize' the clip speed voor every single clip.
    2. What about speeding clips, is it necessary to keep the fps of the timeline? So for example: 24pfs timeline, 60fps clip; do I have to do the math to match the frame rates or can I simply click the x2 x4 or x20 speedpreset in FCPX?
    Thanks!
