  • I made this video to hopefully help anyone looking to purchase a Volkswagen Tiguan. I am not sponsored in any way and this is my honest opinion about this vehicle.

    We got one a 2018 SE 4Motion 86,000 miles. Works well no issues , just followed the standard or recommended maintenance schedule from the book. 4 motion system works quite well in the rain and snow with decent tires.

    I have a 2021 cardinal red. So far no issues. Hope it continues. I like the vehicle.

    Thanks for the review. You're the first reviewer I've watched who has used ECO mode and it seems that it is worth using for relaxed trips to get those higher mpg values. A few bits of information. The SEL version (2023 on?) has both a foot kick function to open and close the rear hatch, 3 memory buttons for the power front seat, and the towing capacity is 1500 lbs. The newer models also have wireless (and USB) connection Auto Play to allow for either Apple or Android Auto. Getting Text messages is a function of the cellphone not the car's Infotainment system. Check your cellphone/Auto Play app settings to allow for Text messaging and it should work including reading you your text messages, etc. Thanks. It's a beautiful car. Love the red exterior pain job.

    I had a 2018, 2020, and now the 2023 Tiguan, and find they got better with each gen. A tad poky is my only complaint (although felt improved between gens I owned), does get great gas mileage, so a trade off there. I think they need to offer a Tiguan R with more HP.

      Tiguan type R with another 50-60 HP would be nice for sure!!!

    This vehicle is amazing on fuel economy. If you keep it at 65mph you will settle right around 34mpg on average. Just keep an eye on timing chain tensioner inspection since as much as we like this car, it still has an interference engine, and timing is crucial with those engines.

    In the infotainment you can set 3 drivers for custom settings, seat, air and driving mode too and music

    My 21’ the oil air separator went out. In that configuration is a vent valve. All that excess pressure had no where to bleed off to so all that pressure went right back into the crankcase. I’m still not sure what entirely caused it but it happened roughly after a tank or two while running a fuel treatment system. Be weary man! These engines are incredible and practically clean themselves. Just keep good oil in it and keep up with your maintenance. I’ve roughly 73k miles or 117km. Only thing I do recommend is the liqui moly engine flush that you put in the oil. Once again I want to reiterate how picky these engines are.

    Actually towing is only 1500 but if you don’t run it hard it can go a little over surprising you don’t have issues due to excess weight

    Watched your first video on this just the other day and good to see after 3 yrs take. In the US the torque is 221 lb/ft. Wonder if you misspoke or it's less in Canada. I am considering the 2023 SE in US and also Mazda CX5, which has much nicer interior and reliability record. CX5 is smaller though. Let's see. Are you replacing Tiguan / what are your plans?

    • @thehonestmechanic
      @thehonestmechanic  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'll have to double check the engine specs. Our plan is to keep it. We enjoy it and it's almost paid 👍

    Thanks for the review. Currently decided between a 2024 forester or Tiguan…

    • @thehonestmechanic
      @thehonestmechanic  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Both are very nice vehicles. I chose the Tiguan because I don't like the CVT transmission in the Forester. My personal opinion...

      Thanks for the reply. Thought it was funny that you were switching from a forester to a tiguan…. I’m curious if all the negative stuff I see on the internet about Tiguans comes from owners who bought used. Also saw this statistic that only 25% of American keep up with suggested maintenance- for this reason I don’t think I could ever trust a used car

    The infotainment system has Apple car play and Android auto so you can get texts and maps via that connection.
    Torque is 221 ft/lbs or 300 nm

    I have a 2019 R-line, and if my android is connected via Bluetooth, it reads my texts, but that is a setting in the phone, I've got it set to read messages aloud when connected to Bluetooth.
    It also reads them when olugged in and there it gives me the chance to reply.
    Cheers!

      No issues mechanically so far! Other than the regular scheduled maintenance, add gas and drive.

      The warranty is just 4 yrs/50K miles here in the US? Most all cars offer 5 yrs/60K miles on the powertrain, the very costly fixes. Hyundai, Kia, Mitsubishi offer 10 yrs/100K on powertrain. I know just a few years ago VW had 6 yrs bumper to bumper. I bet they were losing lots of money on honoring THAT warranty. I'm thinking of getting a 2024 Tiguan in the base "S" trim. It has everything I need. I'll get rid of it before the 4 yrs is up.

    • @thomastran

      In aus VW has 5 year unlimited kms, Im just worried about what happens after warranty. I have a 2021 allspace (longer wheelbase) with the 2.0L TSI tuned to 162KW with 75k kms and no problems yet. @@ofcbob6391

    Do you have a problem stoping on the hill and restarting ? I find my car having a hard time climbing after I come to a full stop 🤔… it slip back a bit and I really need to step in the gas

    • @thehonestmechanic
      @thehonestmechanic  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No I have not had any issues but I don't stop on hills. Our roads are relatively flat in my area. I will however say this, so.e newer vehicles have a "hill hold" feature which applies the park brake if it senses roll back. Normally it release once the accelerator pedal is depressed. Hope this helps

      My 2020 does the same thing the engine rpms take time to shift the transmission into gear when you are stoped on a hill and then after stopping,giving it gas , I think it's normal for that car for some strange reason.
