Is there another u-joint to replace on the other end of the machine?
You should do a video on adjusting the clutches. That'd be a good one
Yes I do. It's part of another video when I was working on the old faithful. I can't remember exactly what it was. Maybe I'll make one separately
@@thehonestmechanic I must have missed that, sorry.
I have alot of videos... no worries. I did make a playlist for the big bear. Might make it easier to find
@TheHonestMechanic What other fluids are there to change other than engine oil? And what do they take?
Front diff(has 2 drain bolts) and rear diff. Both take 80w90. I have a video about replacing front diff oil
@@thehonestmechanic Thanks, I'll watch it
Thank God for your videos. They really are a big help. Is there any way I could get a link to that brake cable thing to free up the cable?
Here is a link to a similar tool. www.amazon.ca/Cable-Motorcycle-Motorcycles-Bicycle-Scooter/dp/B0BK919RPJ/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=BZWQG6SNG5HV&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.6mG1JyVMpvt7msxIqsPzQrM0C11Ph-ZfQVrjEJBhWhcmc6_LjMgvaVqVfTck2jjNekYQ69807QIrMx0MZaYqJstpzBTzgfgHrqJdpu1oPzb_EBEq-ajfw8MLp6vsWeB_FG0KRA_ceYGXWpFdMCPi079ozkX9VA5dNmKsx2McdgjbtXN74w0GX8pJLjvCTVo69YbpR2UVqLBzZxOhcmd5MA.VotqkG2Kk6uGvmzf2rRdgIZsc7E-Rky2tbCSlZCRkh8&dib_tag=se&keywords=cable+luber+tool&qid=1715954686&sprefix=cable+lub%2Caps%2C130&sr=8-4
@thehonestmechanic Thanks very much for the help 😊
Never heard of T Mike but my 3.9 had a problem with the fuel pump. The fuel pump couldn't keep up with the float bowl. It would run decent enough and then die after a bit of running. Hit the primmer ball and it would fire up and do the same. Parts are available but at the same time hard to find. Mine is from 1966 and just looks pretty on the stand. Nice video see you around.
Thanks for commenting! Always great to see people fixing up these old dinosaurs
What did you clean it with?
An assortment of picks ,sandpaper and a blow gun
That T-mikes vintage outboards
I stayed through the whole video and im going to check something out then I'll give you a call later ok but a suggestion is check out t Mike's page as he works on these all day long and as for I'm in refresher mode lol, cause I'm fixing up a late 50's early 60's johnson 9.9 and if I'm right it was the cracked flywheel and worn flywheel key, as for your idle issue t Mike shows you how to adjust and fine tune your idle with just a couple screws on your throttle advance anyhow look at Mikes video it will show you easier than I can explain lol later my friend
Mornin Rick just so you and everyone else knows that parts are still available to buy and one person who's well known is "t Mike" on you tube who also walks you through the repairs and yuppers it's all he does is the old marine motors, so hope the info helps,
Thank you for the information! I'll be sure to check him out
I wonder if this viking has the same sagging rear suspension problem as mine
If you had a DeLorean, you could have interrupted with "future Rick here".
👏👏👍
On the carburetor, where does your yellow vent tube route to?
There are normally two vent tubes. The upper one vents inside the frame and the lower one is directed down to the belly pan. Hope those helps
@@thehonestmechanic Thank you very much.
Open that funnel .0015 inches on all sides and re tune the carb. It will dig.

Actually towing is only 1500 but if you don’t run it hard it can go a little over surprising you don’t have issues due to excess weight
In the infotainment you can set 3 drivers for custom settings, seat, air and driving mode too and music
Thanks for the info!
haven't you got a second drain plug on the rear of the front diff housing not accessible unless you drop the bash plate? Great video, thanks for sharing!
Yes there is. I talk about it in another video. Great observation!
@@thehonestmechanic 🙌👍 Apologies!! I haven't watched that one yet, I shall seek it out!! 👍
Good info
Nice video man
I find that sometimes these stators have coils that were wound too tight which causes them to fail.
Easy, you losen the bolts and make adjustments then tighten and check specs. I have to losen every bolts on Jeep Patriot suspension to do a proper alignment
No adjustments available unfortunately....
So what didn't they do and did that got u that with it being un adjustable 🤔????
The link on the car is solid with no adjustments available. Based off the alignment sheet, an adjustment was made to that link. How?
@@thehonestmechanic yeah I understood you on that point. Where I'm lost in the case u present here brotha is what did they mess with on your vehicle to reach the adjustment here shown, you clearly articulated that is non adjustable.
@@Heylo7 I honestly don't know what they did at this point.I don't trust the numbers on the sheet. On a positive note, it tracks straight and corners great
@@thehonestmechanic I have taught myself a lil bit of how to work on my own vehicles. But I'm not good at this stuff here ...to know to point out what you have here. Nor do I trust lot of repair shops because of this kind of stuff. It's crazy., I just saw vid where reputable mechanic said dealership told lady 4500 for repair work she clearly did not even need brotha..So they like to have beat her out of that under fraudulent pretenses. Something needs to be done it's out of control...
We got one a 2018 SE 4Motion 86,000 miles. Works well no issues , just followed the standard or recommended maintenance schedule from the book. 4 motion system works quite well in the rain and snow with decent tires.
Im going to have an alignment done on my Lexus in a couple weeks. I think ill have some negative camber removed on it as mine is adjustable. I can already see quite a bit of wear on the inside of my winter tires that were brand new and only have 5000km on them.
Recently, our Toronto-based workshop has encountered a recurring issue involving excessive tire wear, particularly in a 2016 Lexus IS 350 and several other vehicles. The problem persists, and in collaboration with a colleague, we are investigating the possibility that control arm/link bushings may be the underlying cause.
Let's hope it helps! I was thinking of taking out maybe half of the negative camber
Thanks for sharing! This can help someone with a Lexus
@thehonestmechanic How long did these cars go without any signs of premature wear? - many years. Yes, sending the camber positive will correct tire wear but what has happened?
@@unencumbered my car is a 2019 and only had 40000km when the tires needed to be replaced. Apparently they all have this problem as they are setup from the factory like this. I may go even farther and replace some parts with stiffer OEM parts but for now I'm just going to have an alignment done and see what can be resolved without parts. I don't think that taking camber out of the car will make a big difference (if any) on the street.
unfortunately there are good shops and bad shops, alot of places think everyone is foolish and don't know anything, as I tell people do your homework about your vehicle even if they do not understand some of the jargon, a good shop will explain the info to the customer, so ask the dealership for specs sheets and go from there, sorry that this company tried to rip you off but unfortunately it happens more often than we hate to admit to, glad you caught this
Theres usually dust and crap in the degrease fluid as well. Use clean gasoline as a degreaser.
Kids, preventive maintenance on ANYTHING you own will save you $$, time, aggravation, equipment will be there when you NEED it, and teach you great skills that people will need and pay you for!
The VSTAR is getting it's safety inspection on Tuesday! New tires, brakes, all new fluids, seats reupholstered, fixed the oil leak, and of course the carbs and valve adjustment that you helped out with. First ride on Wednesday if the weather is nice. Great video btw! As always.
Also tip for using flywheel pullers do not install bolts to far past flywheel or else you can damage parts inside and also keep your puller level (same amount of threads turned in on each bolt) and some times using manual ratchet is harder to do, and by using a power impact sometimes the vibration helps breaks loose the connection with the keyway, and yes Rick again great job and to those who don't know some tips or things are not said because of time for videos, again thanks Rick
Morning Rick, btw I can not get the crown rust inhibitor down this way, question where do u pick it's up at ? Hopefully not online ordering cause I don't do that lol, and love the video keep them coming will call soon, Mc gimmy related lol
There are 2 Crown rust control shops in Sudbury that sell it. I buy it a Maslack. Maybe Canadian tire? I know that Krown is a Canadian product
Yes I think anyone that sprays krown sells it.
Lesson learned. Thank you. Man, when it just started... I hate those moments when you do not know why it is working again. In the back of my head, what if it just stops again working. Good you found out.
If it was inflation issue it wouldn't just wear the inside... so no I didn't think that
8:45, that brake shoe can be a real problem during reassembly. I wedge a 3" long (approx.) block of wood between the inside of the cable bracket against the tensioner pulley. That forces the brake shoe completely out of the way of the auger drive pulley.
Yeah it is your camber I have negative camber on my lowered Benz and it does the same thing the only way to fix it is adjustable upper control arms
States he has negative camber than asks what do we think the problem is bro just stated it you have negative camber so your car is riding on a thin strip of your tire might wanna do a lil more research bud
Fix the camber, and I can also tell that your tires have been overinflated and driven on. The middle is sunken in, which indicates the car was riding on the middle of the tire too much from ballooning from too much air inside the tire.
Camber is set from the factory unfortunately and not adjustable in the rear. (Which is where more wear was found) I've been using the tire pressure indicated in the manual. I'll look into it. Thanks for your reply!
@@thehonestmechanic you're welcome!
You should fix your camber.
not watched the video all the way through but I’d bet you have a sports sedan with negative camber
The car in question is 2017 Mercedes Benz CLA 250 4 Matic
I think your probably right. Might be tire pressure if camber is aggressive you could need to increase tire pressure past factory spec be of weight distribution 🤷♂️
Well if you think it's the design of run flat tyres causing the issue, put on standard/no run flat tyres and retest see what happens
I'm currently running conventional tires. Let's hope my theory is correct 🤞
@@thehonestmechanic post and update on how they get on
Will do !
Promise ill get to it next year ..lol.yes great tips, what are your thoughts on running the carb dry?
It's how I usually store my equipment. I add fuel stabilizer to the tank before I do it
@@thehonestmechanic thanks I've been doing ok with non ethanol ,still run the mower dry though
Initially I thought your car was lowered with wider tires that rub on the fender.
Well, if you aren't hitting the track on a daily basis. I suggest you eliminate the negative camber, which technically is part of your alignment.
Lol. I'm surprised 7 people upvoted this. Most sport coupes and sedans have negative camber from the factory. This is for stability on corners and better handling. It would be a very unwise decision to get rid of negative camber on a nice car. The whole reason you buy a sportscar is for the good handling, especially on corners, so why eliminate it?
I also have to agree with eliminating the negative camber. I have the same issue on my 2019 Lexus IS 300 and it doesn't have run flat tires and only had 40000km when it needed all new tires. The negative camber is causing the premature tire wear in my opinion.
@@DordiHOTSyeah but for normal daily driving that's unnecessary. You clearly don't get the point but that's ok bud.
@@sunsetoriginals7320 Then why did you buy a sportscar?
@@DordiHOTS don't have any race tracks near me so there's not really any need for the way it's setup. I doubt there will be any noticeable difference on the street. And I'd rather have my $2000 in tires last 80,000 km instead of 30 - 40,000.
Can u plz show me how u wired the ignition key plz
The ignition came wired from the factory but I'll see what I can do!
Hey Richard, My tire had wear on the inside down to the cord. In my case I think it was caused by the pretty bad rots on the road I use every day to go home. Not 100% convinced but that’s a theory.
I have a 2019 R-line, and if my android is connected via Bluetooth, it reads my texts, but that is a setting in the phone, I've got it set to read messages aloud when connected to Bluetooth. It also reads them when olugged in and there it gives me the chance to reply. Cheers!
Thanks! I'll check my phone settings!
