    In 2019 I was given a 2009 Jetta GLI for my high school graduation present. When I got it, it already had 150K miles on it. When I got rid of it, it had 272K on it. It was a very reliable car. Then my mom bought me a 2023 VW Tiguan SEL R-Line for my college graduation present and couldn’t be happier.

    I own a 2019 SEL Premium 4Motion in Cardinal red. I've had a few issues with the Volkswagen. The latest was the panoramic sunroof shade that came lose on yhe passenger side. Then, I also had the battery changed as well. The rear door on the driver side the outside door handle became stuck. The digital instrument panel created a ticking noise at times which sounded like a mechanical stopwatch. The original tires were dry rotted and i had to get a new set. I went to Costco and ordered the Michelin Crossclimate 2 and this made a HUGE difference in ride quality and performance. I can highly recommend them for the Tiguan. Yes, it's underpowered and could use the GTI 888 engine especially with the increase in torque. The Fender audio sounds really good since it features the subwoofer housed in the spare tire. I installed WeatherTech floor liners throughout and it was a great investment. I further had limo tint installed as well. I live in Texas and our extreme climate makes it almost mandatory. Good job on the 60k review. Mine has current approximately 25k.

    Thanks for the review! I recently bought this car in the SEL version pre-owned. It is my 1st car so I have been watching reviews on TH-cam. This is the only video I've seen mention maintenance costs. I actually like the sound of the motor but I'm also fine with the speed and power because it's my first car. Brendon, thanks for sharing your experience with Tiguan. Like you said it is a little under powered. The cabin noise level needs to be reduced. The suspensions need to provide a little softer ride. the rear seats should be heated. Windows operation by remote is available but it works for opening and not for closing. They should come with standard front and rear dash cam. The engine hood needs to have two struts instead of one. There should be good light under the engine hood.

    Really appreciate you posting an experienced updated review and hitting relevant topics. I'm currently considering the same year/model from Hertz car sales. My one concern is the slightly high mileages on it, (80, 700k). Realizing it was a rental and may have been subjected to extra wear/tear as well. However, your review makes me feel a little more comfortable in it being a reliable vehicle.

    I have this car. I really like it. It’s a 2019 Tiguan with the 3rd row seating and Panoramic sunroof. I have 60,000 miles. I had an issue with rodents eating the wires this spring, I got it fixed, it was covered under my insurance. Hopefully it will be as reliable this winter as it has been previously. I have never gotten stuck in the snow. I can stow a lot in it. I did have to get new tires and a new battery and new brakes (I drive fast) and wiper blades. My car hasn’t leaked at all. And it’s very rainy where I live in the spring or fall. It doesn’t accelerate quickly, so it’s not superpowerful, but once you get it up, you can cruise easily at 100mph. I should say I really love this car, not just like it. Mine is green with black interior. Sometimes I wish I’d gotten the orange.

    Hey Brendon - came across your channel and own the same two vehicles: 2019 Alltrack S and picked up a recent 2022 Tiguan SE R-Line. The Tiguan is currently with the dealer addressing the same issue you mentioned here: Secondary Air Injection System (Insufficient flow). We’re waiting on the part to replace a cylinder from what I was told. Do you recall how yours was resolved? Anyway - good stuff with your videos on both cars and appreciate the content. BTW - I notice you’re in CT, so do you have a go-to VW specialist you recommend?

    • @BrendonWagner
      @BrendonWagner  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for the kind words!
      Looking back at the service documents, our Tiguan went in twice for a check engine light. At 2,108 miles, it got a new valve and gasket installed (part numbers 0KK131097AA and 06K131120D). It also states new combi valve due to it being stuck open.
      The second time it went in was a week later (2,422 miles) with a CEL code of P2440, and they replaced the secondary air pump and after that we haven't had any issues at all (except for one of our halogen headlight bulbs going out about a month ago at 65,000 miles, $20 replaced at the dealership).
      As for where we go, we service our cars at Langan VW in Glastonbury, I don't know of any specialized independent shops though. We've always had great experiences there with customer service and they aren't a "stealership" as some would say.

  • @charlesspillar6934
    @charlesspillar6934 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I have a 2019 Tiguan SE with 95K miles on it. Under warranty I had a secondary air pump short circuit causing the check engine light to come on. The pump was replaced under warranty. The sunroof also developed a leak (a known issue) and it was corrected under warranty along with the passenger side carpet replaced. I did let the rear brakes pads go too long wthout replacing (my fault) and it ruined the rear calipers at a cost of about $2k. I won't let that happen again. Other than those repairs just routine maintenance. I change the oil and filters myself sooner than the schedule as recommended on the forums. This car has always burned a little oil from new and I typically have to add about 1 to 1.5 quarts between oil changes. I believe that is pretty typical for this engine.

    • @BrendonWagner
      @BrendonWagner  25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think the secondary air pump had something to do with the CEL we had at 2,000 miles as well, but haven’t had an issue since. Fortunately our sunroof hasn’t leaked (yet, knock on wood), and doesn’t have noticeable oil consumption so hopefully it stays like that. I’m glad to hear you enjoy your car!

      Why in the world will they use oil to provide tension in this $70 part that can fail and take down the entire engine. Common sense will dictate that if you want tension, you use a spring. So they should have just spring loaded the timing chain/belt tensioner, and it would have been 100% reliable from the 1st generation. Crony capitalism.

      I just stumbled across this video and I’m glad to hear you’ve had good luck. I just inherited a 2019 SE 4Motion from my mom(who passed in January). Overall the car has been wonderful, with one nagging exception. I continue to get a “check the left daytime running light” error message, however they work just fine. Upon going through my mom’s meticulously kept maintenance records, I’ve found that the car has been to the dealer at least 3 times(Langan in Glastonbury) for the same problem. The first time at around 15K(currently has 22K on it). They’ve supposedly checked the left headlight module, which is supposedly fine each time), yet the problem persists. One thing I’ve noticed is that the error message almost always comes on when it’s dark and the headlights are on, rarely during the daytime(headlamp switch in Auto position). Since you mention working at a VW dealership, I wonder if you’ve ever heard of or come across this issue and what the actual fix might be?

    I'm thinking about a used Tiguan SE 4Motion, so I can avoid the panoramic roof, and putting some bigger tires on for hitting local trails. You mention the power, and while I think it would be fine for me, have you thought about chipping it? VW turbo motors seem to do really well with a chip, at least the Audi's I've had love it. My '11 Golf TDI I've left stock, but depending on how the Tiguan feels, that's something I was thinking about. A basic chip can usually put a nice bump in the HP/torque without really effecting anything else.
