      I don't think that's one of the features. Virtual reality is much more geared towards video games. It is nowhere near to projecting someone else into your view. I would not buy it if you want something to close the gap between you and your grandkids.

      I was thinking about getting this for my Grandmother and myself for just such a situation. We live 2,000 miles apart and I always bring my Daydream headset for her to play with when I visit for the holidays. She loves it, but she has an iPhone and so can't use one of the other mobile headsets like the Daydream or Gear VR. I think this just about fits the bill perfectly.

    In 2008-2009 I dreamed about VR cinema, 30x20 meters screen in front of you. There was NOTHING then, only $1000 Sony HMZ-T1 (thanks god I didn't buy it)..
    But I will buy Oculus Go. Just for VR Cinema.

      This kind of price point was relevant when 50 inch TVs cost $10,000 and projector started at 15K. Nowadays you can get a 50 inch TV for 300 bucks. Oculus Go video quality really sucks. The chromatic aberrations are horrible.

    This was an excellent move by Oculus. I feel as though more people need to get a taste of VR. I bring up VR in numerous conversations and most people NEVER even heard of VR. This product is for the mainstrain audience that aren't gamers willing to spend $1000s for a gaming computer, don't care/notice the technical limitations compared to the Oculus rift, and just want to use it for simple applications. I'm really excited for this.

    • @drewwilliams1337
      @drewwilliams1337 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, the first thing I thought of when I heard about this was getting one for my Grandmom. I've showed her my Daydream a couple of times and she LOVES it, but she has an iPhone, so she can't get a compatible headset, and even then can't be bothered with all of the technical aspects of getting it up and running. Being able to set it up for her so she can just push a power button and go is fantastic for the less tech-savvy audience.

      It'd be pretty weird to run into people who've never heard of VR, considering it's been around for decades. Over 30 years ago there were trainers/simulators (e.g. for flight training) and then I remember those game cabinets in arcades in the 90s. Sure, modern HMD VR is pretty new, but even then the Oculus Rift has been in development for almost a decade.

      Well, with a little bit refined Google carboard clones, you know what you are getting. And it's not a great VR experience, plus, you get to keep your phone for its intended purpose.
      I think it's a waste of time. They should spend their money on R&D, and get out a proper consumer VR headset. Chinese companies have made these kinds of headsets for years already, so it's nothing new.
      A smartphone with the best software and hardware for VR, and a great Google cardboard clone would be way better.

    • @AtomizerX

    As a Vive owner/lover, I think something like this will be perfect for watching movies/TV shows on a 10hr plane flight or similar, as long as it's comfortable enough. I wish they'd have included an SD card slot though.... Also I wish it could somehow include a video input so I could, for example, play my Nintendo Switch on a virtual 70" screen whilst on a plane, but I get why that might be too much to ask....

Porn just fucks up your brain, although its different for everyone. Not saying this to sound morally better, just my honest opinion whenever someone brings up that cringy subject.

    • @MrJr1976

      Dennis sure, too much of it is bad, but if you are going for a 5-min session, it isn’t gonna do much if anything negative. It is when it consumes someone’s life, that’s when it becomes bad. It is similar to games, movies, or even real sex. The main point is that porn is what this device will be used for (primarily).

So you can sit down and play native or none native vr games with a controller, IF they allow you to ether stream from your PC with a very low latency or to have a light wire which allows a fast connection.

    • @kazioo2
      @kazioo2 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      According to Carmack - All visual artifacts corrections running on every frame in Rift on PC take as much performance as ENTIRE Oculus Go chip has to do everything. The tech is not there. On the other hand Facebook has the money to do a proper ASIC chip which could do it all with much better performance, but they are not Apple and don't have balls to go all in their projects. They went for the low price and off-the-shelf solution.

    I am happy to own a htc vive. But one thing i am missing is the opportunity to be able to spontanious switch from my tv to a comfortable headset to watch a movie in virtual theatre without listening to the fans of my gaming pc and powering up the sensors and all that stuff. I think mobile VR devices will conquer the VR world and will take the main place in our homes of the future. If these headsets get so affordable, a movie night at a friends house might not happen on an flat screen that is standing on your sideboard. Kind of oldscool dont you think ;).

    A lot of people are complaining about the lack of 6dof tracking. The thing is, the Go isn't meant for people who already own a Rift or a Vive and have already experienced 6dof tracking. The Go is an affordable product aimed at the mass market, for people who have never tried VR before, and don't have a high end PC. 3dof is enough to wow most anyone who's ever used a Gear VR or Daydream in my experience, which then piques their interest in higher end VR devices (such as the Santa Cruz).

      You do NOT want a large screen / wide FOV in a RC FPV. It could make you vomit. The wider the FOV the more susceptible our brains are for motion sickness, because peripheral vision is more sensitive to motion. Limiting the view in GO for this use case makes sense, but the resolution wouldn't be very good.

    This will be perfect for my sister who has a horrible disease that has left her completely paralyzed. She can only move one or two muscles and that is more of a switch. This will allow her to experience new worlds without leaving her bed. She doesn't need the six degrees of freedom which often cause nausea. So her sitting in one spot but being able to see 3D and be in a different space is a godsend. She will be able to watch her TV shows more clearly and comfortably and be able to use apps for relaxing and meditation. This may really bring her some peace and joy in her final few months she has left.

    One thing to keep in mind about the head strap, is that having a soft strap vs a rigid one makes the device more portable, which is kind of the whole point of this thing. Hence why they put 'Go' in the name. Even if the device was more premium, they probably still would have put in a flexible strap.

    What I want is a VR/AR headset which allows me to monitor a 4 x 3 array multi-screen and switch screens between some kind of 'go to my PC' and/or wireless security cams - with audio - so I can go about my business around my home office or back yard and still watch and hear all the streaming webinars, cablecasts of various television shows and radio broadcasts along with any phone calls, text messages, see out the windows or spot anyone who rings the doorbell. Some kind of neural frequency multiplexer would be nice too. That way I could possibly use brain wave entrainment technology to (hopefully) assimilate all the information - in a pulsed packet form of some kind. Call it a hyper-focused self-hypnotic state if you will. A bite tube controlled coffee dispenser might come in handy as well, but not a deal killer. I'd even pay full retail for the entire package if it worked and didn't cause cancer.

    I have the 64 gig Oculus Go and it is a great entry level VR headset. Enjoying it so far. The only two things that is holding it back is a very poor battery and a lack of expandable storage. The games are okay, but like the review says, media consumption is what this VR is for. The 3DofF is fine for the price. If you're looking for 6DoF you may want to wait for the Santa Cruz version coming out next year. Hopefully it will be a decent price.
    For a battery fix, I bought a much longer mini usb cord (15 feet) so that I can have some slack and can watch content while charging. Also the browser has private browsing those of you who wants to watch more mature entertainment...wink wink.

    • @hollohead4077
      @hollohead4077 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Facebook and Xiaomi have a partnership in place, where the Mi VR will be released in China, which has an Oculus logo under the strap, and the Mi logo upfront. The other big difference is it'll have Xiaomi providing the software side of things since Facebook services are blocked in China. So the reason for it? Probably some kinda compromise/acknowledgement of both party's partnership.

    I recently got a daydream headset to use with my samsung s9+, the daydream view was $50 when I bought it, and the experience is pretty amazing. Similar resolution to this headset and solid motion tracking. At least in my phone I wasn't experiencing any wandering. With the skybox vr app you can watch locally stored videos and there is a youtube app and netflix app. Only problem is battery life and overheating which limits the experience. I would be inclined to bring it on a plane for watching movies f I had enough battery life.

  • @Kdkjdjewerdnxa

    Is the screen actually good enough to enjoy watching Netflix, TV or is it just a gimmick that you’ll use for a few episodes and go back to your laptop/TV after?
    I’ve tried watching videos on VR in the past and it had potential, but it seemed so far off in terms of resolution, and that screen door effect.
    This is very promising though, it might not be worth buying for VR enthusiasts, but it’s a good sign that good VR will become affordable and hopefully VR with 6 degrees of freedom will be able to be contained in an affordable VR device like this.
    Ideally a VR device could do both mobile VR for when you’re traveling or don’t have access or own a gaming PC, but also connect to a PC when you want to play the more more intensive games.

I'm lucky enough to work in a VR studio so I've tried all available VR headset and oculus go is really a solid product, I've used it at job, at home and even in public transport and I must say that it is really a capable device. The screen resolution is great, you don't have the screen door FX, the lenses are very clear . The chromatic aberration is noticeable at first but overall it's a solid product for 200$

    • @pumpuppthevolume
      @pumpuppthevolume 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark ....my point was as far as the image quality being close(which is what he was wondering about).....especially with a 1440p phone with smaller screen......obviously the go removes the friction of a gear vr ...but it's not capable of anything more than a gearvr as far as apps and tracking

I could see this as a really great way to do mobile live show control using something like a Hades Canyon NUC for the PC and the Oculus Go as the 'screens' for all your software running on the NUC.

      Drew Williams lol showing off vr with a 3dof headset..... when u can obviously afford the lenovo and give people a real vr experience
      ....... 3dof needs to die and it will happen with the next gen Go when the SD935 is cheap and they add 2 cheap cameras

      pumpuppthevolume it's 200 not 300 not 400 not 1000 and it's doesn't need a 1000 phone or a 2000 PC to work it is just the headset an small controller I think this has great potential for VR social games on the cheap and absolutely everyone can get in on it that is the point

      it's 250 with ok storage at 64gb ....and without 6dof is just a nice neat demo toy ....and the second generation with a sd835 and 2 cheap cameras will give u a real vr experience where u can actually move your head and walk in the virtual space and it will be most likely 250-300 bucks

    WTF the Oculus Go might cost $200 in the US but in the UK is cost £429 from Amazon which is $585 without delivery cost... 🤨

      SparkyMTB you can buy it for £200 from the oculus website...

    At 200 you could just buy a windows MR headset .

      But it requires a gaming PC, which costs $800.
      Go requires nothing.

      Heaney but this only has 3 degrees of freedom , at that point just use a phone which everyone should alr have for vr with cardboard or gearvr . I rather wait for the next version with 6 degree

      "Everyone" does not have a Daydream or Gear VR capable phone. You *could* buy an older Samsung phone for cheap-ish and the Gear VR, but the Go would still be much, much cheaper.

    • @Hunt3rNz
      @Hunt3rNz 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      notexactlypaul yeah but ,you also get a phone with it . Something way more useful

    • @Hunt3rNz
      @Hunt3rNz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      notexactlypaul just look on eBay , a used/refurbished s7 is going for $140-$250 . And a gearvr is going for $15-$60 . So it isn't much cheaper or cheaper at all

    This just reminds me of the head sets you put your cell phone in. Maybe vr doesn't work for me I just never got the immersive feeling with those cell phone be head sets. I haven't tried one hooked up to a computer yet

    Sooner or later we'll finally have a VR System that'll be standalone with full directional control. I'd like to see that day happen.

    Since many 3D movies aren't getting US blu-ray releases (or they're in very short supply and sell out on release day), this might be an alternative to get 3D movies delivered digitally. It would save the hassle of importing 3D movies from the UK (which seems to get a blu-ray release of every 3D movie) and having to worry about region lockout. Does the VUDU app (which on Rift supports 3D movie playback) work with 3D movies on this device?

    What I would like to know, is if it has the constellation trackpoints, for the capability to purchase the touch and trackers, and use the Go headset with the PC Oculus software, streamed at high quality and completely untethered. That would be a very nice feature, even if you have to purchase a trackpoint Type C addon as well to do so it would be super nice, especially if it has a passthrough for data, rotated 90° for the cable to be led back along the strap, and give the possibility to also be able to stream over a wired connection.
