@@williamsmith6921 seriously? For me when I play Boneworks the hands are out of placed, it's a known issue to the VD developer and he's working on a fix or a work around
I tried a USB 3 from Best Buy, just some random one, and it doesn’t work correctly. At least for me. Everything was all wonky and laggy and the graphics were super glitched.
The reason for the black part is that the headset is doing internal computations to reduce the motion latency. So if you move your head the headset moves the already rendered view, so that the head motion appears to have no latency. If you the motion is to fast the and the range is to wide, the headset does not have any Content for this section of the view port. This effect could be reduced by rendering the view on the PC with even wider FOV, so that the Headset has more area to play with. The motion signals are still sent to the PC so that it can incorporate the new head pose into the next render cycle. In general this technique the removes correlation between latency and motion sickness. It should also help with unstable frame rates, as the Headset can also create virtual intermediate frames that, at least take you head motion into account. Other game elements like you shooting the bow, cannot be compensated for by the algorithm, that why they feel so (and are) delayed.
@@user-yd6bo6xo7w well... he's a good actor. He has been playing a role of a 15-year old excited teenager for all those years, and only rarely showed his true nature in his videos.
He really shows that money cant buy happiness. Linus is just a regular dude that goes through all of the day to day struggles we go through. I have mad respect for him having the balls to do that video.
The headset does async timewarp and async spacewarp on the feed from the PC - thats why there are border artifacting and controller mismatch. Frames showing up late and are interpolated, the time/spacewarp interpolated frames smooths the general view, but makes the controllers appear out of sync since they are only updated on the "real" frames, and also the thing where when you move your head too fast, the movement goes out of bounds of the older frame that was position shifted that async time/spacewarp inserted to compensate for late frames from the pc. You could most likely get better results with windows tweaks and a better cable, on a USB with nothing else on that controller.
It is possible because apart from beat saber stuttering (mods I guess), I don't experience any issues with my Link. But then again, I have never used Vive or Index so my standards might just be lower.
As someone who currently owns the CV1 and had the chance to test out my brother's Quest with both hand tracking and the Link, I'd have to say I definitely felt that jello feeling that Linus mentions and I didn't have more time on hand to test it I believe you can disable the PC's side of A-Sync reprojection by disabling it in the Oculus-Diagnostics and on SteamVR settings, meaning it'll be only using the headset's side of things Being honest though, my CV1 is failing and wires are irreplaceable, so if somehow I can make enough money to buy a quest, I'll definitely move to one in the hopes that all this can be fixed as time goes
1992: my mom paid 75$ for a game for her kids. Idk how much it is with inflation and compound interest... but it really doesn't make it up for the argument ''yeah but games were more... (add what u want)'' Video games today are insanely cheap.
Loving the VR content, as someone who just got a VR headset last Fall I think it definitely deserves more attention. VR games are so much fun and the entire VR community is pretty welcoming, especially for the common games like Beat Saber, already made a ton of new friends.
It's been a long year. Hand tracking is actually pretty good now, I suggest people try out Waltz of the Wizard on the Oculus store. Virtual Desktop Streamer no longer needs the patch, so it's now a case of buy it on the Oculus store, download the app on your PC and you're basically good to go. The delay for wireless stream if proper router is very dependent on network bandwidth, don't have the issue on mine with an 850Mbps 802.11ac connection. Delay for encode, decode and transmission is about 30ms for me, which is fine for 95% of games.
@@olivier6840You're being silly. It's absolutely not about the price. ALL hoodies and T's sold by youtubers are more expensive. It's about supporting the channel.
this absolutely needs to be a thing of course just for the memes but LTT would definitely do it if they thought it would be possible/had a idea of how to do it
What's probably happening with the black bars is that the position of the simulated headset isn't updating on SteamVR to be rendered and sent back in time, but they still allow independent movement of the video stream via the headset's internal processing so that your head roitation doesn't lock in place when the video stream lags
"I am wondering how much this experience is running on the quest versus the graphics card". I am going out on a limb here and say very little. I will make this easy to understand for people that might be pondering the same question. The Rift S uses Displayport cable AND USB 3 cable. That is 2 separate cables. - Displayport cable for displaying rendered image from graphics card to your headset (and audio possibly) - USB 3 cable for everything else (controller tracking, controller input and any other low level processes). The Link cable for Quest, uses ONE USB C cable for everything I mentioned above. That means lower bandwidth for each process over the cable (bottle necking). Yes its a lot more complicated but this is very basic reason why the Quest + link cable does not give the same quality PCVR experience that the Rift S may produce.
I wonder how they'll resolve that, if the fiber optic cable in the pipeline will just have more bandwidth or if they'll have some splitter that'll use 2 usb c/3 connections
bxn4l I like where your head is at but there is a small problem. Remember how I said it was more complicated? So keep in mind that the DisplayPort cable goes from the video card directly to the headset. Well, at the moment, you can’t do that with USB. There are more “check points” so to speak. The image data must go through pcie port, over the bus and to the USB port. Again, the process is more complicated but this is the process in basic form).
3:50 Ahh USB C... So many possible features, so few cables that actually have any of them other than charging. Whoever decided it was okay for the specs of these cables to vary between "Battery Filler" and "Literally Omnipotent"... Should be prosecuted for crimes against humanity in The Hague.
@@nightmare4eVerr1 good thing that at least with display port cables there's only 1 type of cable out there. All those display port 1.4 or 1.1 cables are the same. The only things that matter there are the sending and receiving device (pc and monitor). Nice job usb guys...
actually I'm fine with cables that have the same connector but with different capabilities. They should just color code the plug based on the cables' specs like USB 2 vs USB 3 (black vs blue)
@@ThunderDraws , well yeah, then you'd essentially have distinct types of cables, each with their own clearly defined feature set and their own look. That's not the case with USB-C though... and that's my problem.
Man, jumping from the previous video to this one is crazy. Btw glad you’re still making the typical stuff you’re known and appreciated for, just like you promised you would. Don’t want you to stop doing this ever also because I know it’s your true passion after all. Take sometime, go on a vacation with your dear ones and I’m sure everything will look simpler and less stressful when you come back and the choice to keep doing your job will come natural. You probably exploded because you couldn’t take the pressure much longer and never really took sometime off for yourself which can be damaging. You probably also reconsidered the priorities in your life and for now being missing out on your family weighs more than making videos, as it should. That’s why a good and deserved vacation would probably make things clearer in your mind. Making this an hobby rather than a daily job as it’s been for the last years could mean less but better content, especially because you would focus on making the videos you really care about without the tough schedule you’ve been used to for years and not having that psychological pressure from missing out on the things that are most important to you can only mean better content. Coudn’t imagine the world of tech without LTT and TechQuickie, but even if you stop eventually, I’ll keep following you until the very last day.
T0XIC S0VIET yeah because they used a non-official link cable, so obviously it would be worse than the official. They put their focus entirely on the non-official, lower quality cable, so this really isn’t a reliable review.
It's a really good headset. I mean I haven't tried any of the really high end ones but considering the price, inside out tracking, portability and oculus link it falls very nicely into the "good enough" territory that highly successful consumer devices tend to fit into.
@@SoyDelSouth as a standalone headset I see where you're coming from. The Sidequest community is doing a lot of work to help with the lack of titles. But if you have a computer that will run the link software it opens up so much. I wouldn't have considered this headset if it was just standalone; I bought it because it can do both.

Linus's VR snobbery almost prevented me from checking out a Quest and absolutely loving it. Jesus dude. Nothing in the way that you talk about or react to the product says that you like it, let alone think it's the best headset.

Chronova bro. Oculus just restocked. I would get it before it goes out of stock again. If not you’ll have to pay like 530 for a used one. It’s insane. Just bought one yesterday for 399. Good luck
@@Nova-qn7zd I would ABSOLUTELY get one - and I would get one as soon as they restock, even if money ends up being tight for a few weeks afterward. I have used the 3dof products (Gear VR and Oculus GO) for movie watching and what not and thought they were cool but trying the Quest was a revelation. The room-scale gaming is great, but the fitness is an unexpected game changer. I use Beat Saber, Box VR, and Thrill of the Fight and regularly burn 1000+ calories in an hour and a half session (tracked by my Whoop strap.) I've lost 20 lbs during lockdown primarily because of my Quest fitness routine. The only thing that has been disappointing is the Oculus store - but even that is improving regularly as they get experience.
People also need to realize that this review is not testament to today's quest experience. Linus could have shown more appreciation, yes. But the job in the video was to determine whether or not direct pc to vr headset gaming on the quest was worth it, at least at the time. And honestly with the small yet significant issues he encountered I would say that it would still be better to get a rift s or a more expensive pc vr headset. Ofc now that's changed a bit, but people keep criticizing Linus' comments when they don't realize that this is somehow not testament to ANY oculus link experiences today due to loads of updates.
7:50 reason: slight delay when tracking loss of controller (behind your head), delaying the input of you letting go of the trigger; in my own experience and observation at least. not in every game equally. Edit: you can even see that he does not have it as bad when he holds it longer, going past the said delay, then releasing. That must just be a machine trying it's hardest to process (cause he is wireless). Damn I'd like to test that out!
I had this issue on the Rift S out of the blue, and only found a few people saying the issue might be the magnet hanging the trigger. Eventually I updated the firmware for the headset and controllers and it seemed to have disappeared. It more than likely was in part to what you were saying, desync.
literally I have no idea why he's complaining. I've been owning a quest for a year now and I had no issues playing custom songs on beat saber with oculus link such as Flat world, plain asia, if you don't know what that is, it's an extremely fast song and you could search it up if you want to
It's like you guys didn't watch the whole video, sure he says it sucks at the start but that's just in comparison to his experience with headsets 2.5x the price, it's like going from a 144hz monitor down to a 60hz monitor. Like not saying the 60hz is bad, but when you're used to something much better, it's hard to go back. He concludes in the end that it's a good headset for its price and that it's even better now because of this added capability.
@@koolliohxv1271 With the quest it fully immerses you. At the start you'll notice some light leakage but once you get into a game it feels like you're there
I've got the Rift S, I'm pretty happy with it so far. The quest looks like a great option for people who just want to pick up VR gaming as a hobby instead of buying the full gaming PC.
Quest is the jack of all trades of VR, that's why it's so popular. If you've got your IPD in the 60-66 range, the Rift S is by far the best PC headset $400 can buy, it's more focused at doing what it does well, while the Quest can just do more, but a bit less well.
Looking to how hand tracking have become now on the quest 2 and seeing how night and day it is against the first quest demo show why we need to start somewhere to innovate

A hypothetical Quest 2 is what I want to see. Having some actually dedicated hand tracking tech and a more robust pcvr solution could make it a pretty great budget headset.
I'd imagine using display port or hdmi would make for a better experience but I don't know the specs on those If they did that, it would probably end up being a bundle cable with usbc as well so the Quest can send tracking data to the PC. Id love to see if this could be a solution for a potential Quest 2
They should try VirtualDesktop/Airlink right now, over a good 5ghz Wifi6 connection. I'm pretty sure Linus would be a lot more impressed right now. It's come a *long* way since 2020. Hell even when compared to early 2021.
The black bars you are seeing are due to the daydream tech in the headset. Basically the headset has a high speed gyro which updates the display at native hz regardless of game frame rate to prevent motion sickness and disorientation. If the hardware/game cannot keep up and the FPS drops, the hardware simply moves the same frame across the screen left or right while it waits for the next frame.
@@dampmaky i can play beat saber using 3 phones, 1 for head tracking and 2 for controller. The controller its not perfect, but its nice for try a vr games. I haven't try it yet, because my phone is too small so its not good. Try 6-6.5" with a $25 vr googles works best for me.
@@dustojnikhummer no its not... to you even own the official oculus link cable? XD its more flexible and overall more robust while still being lighter than the 3m anker cable. The Motion to photon latency also is slightly less and never causing the connection to fail :)
on uploadvr.com you can find a great tutorial on how to increase the resolution if your machine is powerful enough. Also get the official oculus link cable if you can afford it because the connection is more stable and the 5m reach is really nice :) with third party cables right now you get disconnects sometimes and not every cable can keep your battery charged while the oculus´ one keeps it always at 100% :)
Damn, they are some keen eyes you have. It is an "ANKER" branded cable tie, it most likely came with the USB Type-C cable that they purchased from Anker. @@brnperes I don't personally feel the heat to be honest, so that hasn't been a problem for me. The battery carrying sucks though, but as long as you can get the cable neatly down your back and put the battery on your side or back, it doesn't really get in the way.
at retail price definitely, but I got a quest on black friday for $200 and with link it's more than enough for the light gaming I'll do via steam vr and as a stand alone in the living room
Watching this makes me feel good about buying the quest.. While being able to play wired, theres a option the rift does not have and thats to take the game elsewhere. I was initially torn between the two. but i also have a psvr.. idk
I've only used the Oculus Rift CV1, Oculus Quest (with link too) and HTC Vive (that one for like 5 minutes) and I know what he's talking about. Something about it feels less smooth, though I wouldn't say it's that much of a problem
He's really just putting on a show for 10-30 minutes and goes back to being his normal self. To think that he's been doing that for a while now makes us realise why he's feeling that way.
The black bars are not from data rate, its from render speed. You move to fast for a frame to be updated so you see a black bar for the part that is not renderd. Because the second part was a not so graphical intense scene l, the black bars were less cause it can render faster. Also having low fps increses the black bars.

@Clarissa 1986 Jesus that's huge, do you even use all that space?

"I am wondering how much this experience is running on the quest versus the graphics card".
I am going out on a limb here and say very little.
I will make this easy to understand for people that might be pondering the same question.
The Rift S uses Displayport cable AND USB 3 cable. That is 2 separate cables.
- Displayport cable for displaying rendered image from graphics card to your headset (and audio possibly)
- USB 3 cable for everything else (controller tracking, controller input and any other low level processes).
So many possible features, so few cables that actually have any of them other than charging.

actually I'm fine with cables that have the same connector but with different capabilities.
They should just color code the plug based on the cables' specs like USB 2 vs USB 3 (black vs blue)

He daily drives a Valve Index, I don't think he meant the title.
That "oooh Yea 🤪" was GOLDEN 2:25

"Yeah. WOW! Amazing." - Riley, always
Me : Watching this video
also me : Why am I crying ??? (Remembers Yesterday's livestream)
SeireiART what happened
Watch the livestream he did yesterday on the channel and you'll understand.
Also having low fps increses the black bars.
and now you have to have a Facebook account to use it. That's one hell of a "Killer Feature" to me.
"Is that wallet bulge or are you happy to see me?"
"I'm happy to see you."
"Oh... Awkward..."
😬
"Go into some experiences that you can only do with your hands"......wonder what he was looking at.
