Better yet, actually show how to replace the battery. That way people can figure out how to mount one externally like Palmer Lucky did, I'd go one further & use a 4000MAH 21700 battery like I use in one of my vaporisers!
@@miscellaneousNsuch I was thinking of a couple of Samsung 40T in parallel, pretty much 8k mah. 30A should have no problem, I've not seen the 18650 they use... I doubt it's 30A, they tend to be lower than 2600 mah. Honest ones anyway XD
Good thing I started using Rogain because this stupid video made me pull my hair out. I'm screaming at the screen "WIGGLE IT MORE! DON'T FOCUS ON ANYTHING! TELL US MORE ABOUT MAKEUP AND POISON!"
I started playing with my son's old Oculus Go and was curious about repair, especially replacing the battery if there's a charging problem (the one I have is still okay). The only thing I've seen in other comments around the net is there is a ribbon on the battery (as seen in the video) is critical and can't be found separately so be gentle! Especially when putting a fresh battery cell in the wrapper with the ribbon (not done for this teardown). This was the only decent teardown video I could find, and I'm very impressed how you go step by step and are very gentle when "popping" plastic pieces apart, as I've broken plastic tabs in several of my own breakdowns. This is an old video, but I'll comment anyway: I would love to have seen a high-speed rebuild video where Bill put the darn thing back together again (and it still worked!)
@3:30 standard controller? I was so blown away on two thing about this controller: how does the headset track the position and movement of the controller and how does the headset knows the rotation / orientation of the controller? The headset does not have cameras like quest. Does it use infrared? It is a great mystery to me.
FINALLY someone did a teardown! I couldn't believe that no one, not even iFixIt has bothered to teardown of the $199 headset, but there is video after video of all the different Oculus Rift Dev kits, Oculus Rift retail kits, HTC Vive, Vive Pro...etc all of which cost a hell of a lot more than $199...
Different length screws just in a pile, you know that just got swept into the trash after lol I would take out the screws & as soon as they were a different size I'd label them on a sheet of paper or something.
I wanna restart playing pet lab bc I ran out of materials, but I can’t finger out how to delete it!! Duse anyone know how??? I’ve looked everywhere and am at a loss😭😭
I have a load of these batteries for torches and other tech one of them says it's a 9000+ mah battery. Assuming it actually is what it says it is would it not give my Oculus go a longer run time. I'm not 100% on how battery output Vs time works
If you have an 18650 battery that claims to be 9000 mAh I'd suggest recycling it as it's putting and probably extremely poor quality if it can't be sold on it's actual merits. I surely wouldn't want to stop it to my face.
Nice video, thank you. I am surprised thought that you pointed out you had ESD safe tweezers when you weren't working with a mat or a grounding strap. ESD kills electronics. Just a small charge from your hand could have toasted the electronics.
It DOES have Bluetooth. I have connected two Steel Series controllers to it. Now, Bluetooth audio, for some reason, does not seem currently supported at the time of my writing this, as a corded headset is recommended for use.
Be carefull when you try to switch the battery as I had done it with my PS Move controller (with a non stantard 3th party battery) and a couple days ago it exploded like a bomb when I was charging it and the controller totally got destroyed into hundreds of parts. I cant imagine same thing happens to me when wearing GO. So if available try to use original battery or a very good one.
Imagine looking online for anything even approximating "how to repair your Oculus Go" and finding nothing other than 2 people talking about poison, makeup, and actually say things like "It looks like (pause) you can probably do (pause) what I'm currently half way through the process of doing." It's like trying to download a PDF manual and getting an American Tourister luggage commercial.
I was surprised when you mentioned putting it back together again toward the end of the video. Usually when you take these things apart that's pretty much it.
has anyone noticed any not-as-advertised hardware? it occurs to me that a vr headset intercepted in the mail would be an effective vector for: -Delivering a virus to a secure terminal or network, just for not being a usb drive. who would think to check it. -Planting hardware that does not system reset and could even piggyback power for a mic. I'm not paranoid, i'm just curious. these things do happen. mostly, i imagine, in attempts to steal intellectual property rights, or probably also law enforcement. seems to be a lot in overseas electronics as well.
she is asked what the future will be,, her answer,, "it's so hard to say" ... Wrong again -- they were working on Santa Cruse,, ( know known as Oculus Quest due spring 2019 )
*sigh* You didn't actually use the controller either, did you? It's full motion sensing. The generic VR controllers you often see paired with smart phone based VR headsets are just (often flaky) bluetooth controllers that work as any game controllers do. The circular controller on top is also a touch pad that operates as a button as well.
@ 12:55 Since when is a 2600mah battery considered big? Not unless it's running @ 7.2v-9v or was your last phone battery was from a nokia back from the 90's.
Would be way more interesting if you would have focused on the actual tear down... You start loosening the face plate at the proximity sensor, it is incredibly tight on my Go, thus I would have been interested in a commentary, while you pry it open.
I think this video is nice. My headset overheats very easy and its nice to know the screen is safe so no dust comes into it when i open the heatpipe to screw some holes for the hot air to get out and now i even know there is no way dust can get into the screen.
I have a load of these batteries for torches and other tech one of them says it's a 9000+ mah battery. Assuming it actually is what it says it is would it not give my Oculus go a longer run time. I'm not 100% on how battery output Vs time works.
No bluetooth ? I have two Bluetooth controler an Xbox one S controler and an Sega Controler and it runns , the best for the GO is the Sega bluetooth Controler
The most important part of the headset was left unseen. The lcd display and how it splits the image or if there are two is just left unknown.... That's the part I was waiting for and nope
Absolutely! I love watching Netflix on mine! I side loaded CBS All Access App so I could binge watch Star Trek Discovery on it! FIrst Person Shooters are great too!
We're continuing with this series and trying to improve how we shoot. We are open to suggestions. The next product is actually an Android phone that was dropped off a boat and was underwater for a few months. Should be interesting.
Motion sickness not only attributes to the world not moving where you moving, but low res textures is an issue. Some of those early Demos was using high end graphics engine with low res textures and pixelation in close models was horeible. There are three Zones in VR IMO being close, far, and mid range. Games, Demos, or Videos with very little to no noticeable pixelation from close to 3/4 mid range is a fantastic experience. High End or PSVR been a fantastic experience with titles such as Farpoint, Eve Valkyrie, Job Simulator, and Wipeout are just a few. On my Samsung GS6 Gear Eve Gunjack and Lands runs great with motion sickness while every free rollercoaster demo made me sick due to poor optimization. I wouldn't say thd feeling is like being poisoned at. More like that feeling right before you throw up which is fine balanced combination nausea and vertigo.
Of the 24k views in total there were 210 people with Aspergers who gave it a thumbs up and 67 people with Aspergers who gave it a thumbs down. Wow. What a waste of my time. However, I am glad that this guy found his niche online. Taking things apart and putting them back together again is a lot of fun for people who have been doing just that ever since they could remember. Its quite a niche skill. But what a waste of my time. Im still looking for a tutorial on how to fix the shitty remote that breaks for almost 50% of users within 3 months of owning the thing. So maybe you can stop showing off your frivolous ability and devote some time to something useful. Like how to reinsert that strip inside the remote that always gets loose when the remotes cover pops off. That would be nice. Thank you.
point from my research it can only operate like phone vr which is very basic and the presenters of this video made it seem like a normal headset even though its just phone vr without the phone
Wow this is a cheesy presentation. Felt like I was watching a cheap telesales channel. Shame, as the content was interesting, but had to quit after 10 minutes.
My vape uses the same type of battery and it's 2500 mah as well. Those batteries are cheap too. I understand they were trying to keep the price down but geez. Put an accessible battery slot in it like I don't know...EVERYTHING ELSE.

Exactly. The only probable reason I would tear one apart would be battery issues. With anything else it would make sense to go buy a new one.

You’re CNET for Christ’s sake, properly tear it down!! Everyone wants to see the screen and nothing else. Total cop out!
in my head I can here Peter Griffin's voice saying "that's right, Compuserv"
Despite of how awkward the video was , I found it kind of satisfying
Waited 20 minutes just to see the lens. And you chicken out.
Same, was waiting to see the display size :)
this tear down is by far the worst i have seen they could have tore it down completely including the lenses and then spoke about it

Philip Reece that’s not really interrupting it’s keeping the convo interesting and showing he’s paying attention
